I Made You A Mixtape! Or is that a Milktape? A Modern-Day Mixtape for Music Lovers… (feat. my fave playlist)

However, and you can call me old-fashioned, I think sharing a playlist via a physical gift is just so adorable. Enter the Milktape – a USB cassette tape, breathing new life into the tradition of exchanging mixtapes. (Oh and don’t worry – I really did make you a mixtape – featured further down).

Milktape puts a new 21st century spin on the old mixtape by hiding a pop-out USB drive within an iconic cassette case, enabling users to upload 128 megabytes to the device (approx. 15 songs).   I’m not saying, you should turn into a Milktape, mixtape-gifting maniac!  But for a long-time friend, perhaps one you’ve known since the mixtape’s heyday, or maybe for that special someone on Valentines Day (which isn’t that far away) as a cutesy little keepsake, I reckon the Milktape is worth checkin out. Milktape is also customisable – just drag and drop your favourite tunes onto the drive, eject the device, and then you’re free to decorate the blank label, case and stickers.  Go all out or just bust out the sharpie and doodle away to your heart’s content.  Milktape ships to pretty much every country in the world, is compatible with MAC & PC, and costs US$15.

Does Milktape appeal to your inner-awkward-teenager?  For more info head to: www.milktape.com

Whether it’s heading to concerts, listening to my iPod or Spotify, or checking out other people’s playlists – music is always a part of my everyday life!  I don’t actually know how people function without it. So this mixtape features tracks that I currently have on my playlist – some are newly released, some are from back when the mixtape was in its heyday. Regardless of when the songs were released, they’re on my playlist right now, they’ve seen me through 2013, there’s new and old faves, and I love them!

As my music collection contains thousands of songs, its impossible to list them all. Containing both chilled and upbeat tracks in the one playlist, I’ve selected the tracks that I just never tire of hearing, and so yeah, I made you this mixtape….

Starting with my absolute number one track of 2013, it’s a cover of Amy Winehouse’s ‘Back to Black’ performed by Beyoncé and Andre 3000, and it’s ultimately one of my all time favourite Amy Winehouse songs.  This is my ‘hit repeat’ track of 2013…

Gabrielle Aplin & Bastille – Dreams (Fleetwood Mac cover)

Refugee Camp All Stars – The Sweetest Thing

Sarah Blasko – Hey Ya! (OutKast cover)

Chloe Howl – No Strings (WARNING – contains coarse language)

The Vamps – Can We Dance

HAIM – The Wire

Naomi – How Many Loves

Santigold – Starstruck

Bruno Mars – Gorilla

Mark Wilkinson – Middle Ground

Jake Bugg – Broken

The Roots featuring Erykah Badu – You Got Me

Mo – Waste Of Time

Sia – The Girl You Lost To Cocaine

Die Antwoord – I Fink You Freeky

Die Antwoord – Fatty Boom Boom

Fleetwood Mac – Go Your Own Way

Mark Ronson – Toxic (Brittany Spears cover)

Kery James feat. Imany – Le Mystere Feminin

AlunaGeorge – Attracting Flies

Pedar – White Lilies

Lissie – When I’m Alone

Delilah – Never Be Another

Iva Lamkum – Raise Your Glass

Beyoncé – Love On Top

Lana Del Ray – Young & Beautiful

The XX – Fiction

Amy Winehouse – Half Time

Frank Ocean – Lost

Alt-J – Breezeblocks

Nelly Furtado Manon Dave Remix – Say It Right

Hall & Oates – Kiss On My List (don’t judge me – this is 80’s radtastical!  Useless fact: H&O are also the original singers of Maneater)

I hope this playlist gave you some music inspiration, reminded you about some long forgotten ‘oldies but goodies’, or maybe there’s even some artists in here that you hadn’t yet discovered that you will soon come to love as much as I do.  If you see me out and about with headphones in my ears, you’ll know exactly what I’m listening to.

Don’t take life too seriously, listen to awesome music, dance your ass off!

OK so we’re only a couple of days out from Christmas, and this is generally when those that still haven’t completed their Christmas shopping go into desperate “I’ll just buy anything” panic mode!  And that’s why I think a gift guide is most useful right about now. Perhaps you’re still trying to find those last few extra special gifts? Or maybe you just need a few stocking fillers to complete your festive shopping.  Well, worry not, my Christmas Gift Guide has got something for everyone…

No chain-store shoes for this online store, Mr. W & Me stock only the highest quality (and super affordable) select range of footwear, only those that they deem worthy (and I have to say, I agree with all their selections they deem worthy).  Mr. W & Me have been popping up all over the show – NZFW, VIVA, Remix Magazine, you name it, their shoes are noted and coveted.  After discovering Mr W and Me some time ago, I featured them here on Gurlinterrupted.com as I was so enamoured (you can read about it here: The Mysterious Mr. W & Me).  I fell in love with their Gold Italian Loafers named Sweet Revenge, and they still remain the best addition to my shoe collection.  Recently I’ve been donning these amazing laceless white Italian leather brogues, aptly named Second Glance, and I see they’ve got a new addition to their already incredible lineup of shoes – Decent Exposure, a fab pair of sandals that have arrived just in time for summer.  If you’ve got a shoe-porn addict in your life, hook them up with a pair from Mr. W & Me.  Head to www.MrWandMe.co.nz
Pricing ranges from $34.00 to $149.99

It’s fair to say that these two items featured here, are pretty much consuming the beauty world right now.  Bloggers and Vloggers worldwide are raving about these recent releases!  Yip – I’m talking about the Limited Edition BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed in Rose GoldBECCA The One Perfecting Brush.

I headed in to APOTHEKA (previously known as Glamorpuss Cosmetics) located at 16 Osborne St in Newmarket, to get my hands on these two gems, which believe me is no small feat, as they are selling out faster than you can say new release NAKED palette!  We know all to well, when something becomes the hottest ticket in the beauty industry, unfortunately it also means it will eventually get to ‘sold out worldwide’ status, especially when one of the items is ‘Limited Edition’. So, if you’re based in New Zealand and are trying to track these down – head to Apotheka as they still had some in stock when I was there.  Or if you’re not based in Auckland, check them out online: Apotheka.  Aaaanyway, I just thought I’d start by telling you where you can get these right at the beginning of this post, for those that are already well aware of these beauty gems, but are struggling to track them down.  Now, on to the all important BECCA products…

I want to start with BECCA’s “The One Perfecting Brush” as this is such an exciting new beauty product! A brush that can do the work of 10 makeup tools gets a huge thumbs-up from me!  This brush replaces: foundation, powder, contour, bronzer, stipple, blush, fan, and concealer brushes, kabuki, and sponge. It’s basically the ‘swiss army knife’ of makeup brushes. At first I was like “woah – this is a large brush, how the heck is this going to do the work of all the different sized brushes I would normally use?”. But you soon get the hang of it, and it does do an absolutely brilliant job, as it contours to your face at any angle, perfectly! And you can go straight from applying liquids, to applying creams, to powders, without having to clean the brush between application. It’s made with high quality goat hair, so it’s non-porous and there’s no product wastage through absorption.  I could go on and on about how it works (and you know how I love to ramble when I get excited about a beauty product), however when I was first checking out “The One Perfecting Brush” I came across this You Tube video by BECCA Style Director – Kerry Cole, and it was pretty much the deciding factor as to whether I needed this brush (oohhh and I needed this brush!).  So go ahead and check it out, as Kerry explains what this brush does and how, perfectly.

The other BECCA product that is flying out the door and into the hands of beauty gurus worldwide, is the Limited Edition Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed in Rose Gold (basically the most beautiful, ethereal, shimmering highlighter I’ve ever seen).  I am utterly obsessed with highlighting products, and anyone that knows me will confirm this obsession. When I’m creating a makeup look, the icing on the cake, so to speak, is a luminescent highlighting powder swept over the cheekbones and the bridge of the nose.  Now what you don’t often find in a highlighter, and what sets this particular one apart from the rest, is its rose-gold hue and appearance of finely ground crystals.   There are many highlighters on the market that have the basic silver, gold or bronze base tone, but a true ‘rose-gold’ highlighter – not so common.  The other unique aspect with this BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector is that unlike the traditional pressed powder method, which simply mixes and compresses dry ingredients, this unique process blends pigments with proprietary liquid binders, resulting in unparalleled, creamy application with balanced colour dispersion. It’s been described as crushed gems in powder form, and I couldn’t agree more!

Former co-founder and creative director at Jimmy Choo – Tamara Mellon, has released her very first collection for her new shoe label (named, wait for it – Tamara Mellon), and to celebrate she signed it-girl Karlie Kloss to star in a short, somewhat dark, fashion film entitled “High Heels and Sharp Knives.”

Drawing inspiration from Guy Bourdin’s photography (this is very evident in the clip) Kloss dons some of Mellon’s sexiest offerings, paired with black stockings and blood-red nails. Kloss also wears Mellon’s “Sweet Revenge” leather legging boots (basically pants with boots attached) of which go for $1,995 and are sold out in almost every size on Net-A-Porter.

Watch Kloss wind up covered in blood, wielding a knife, donning high heels, all in the name of love.  But is it all as dark as it first appears?

MARACA – A Sensory Journey…

MARACA, skincare, skin care, hand cream, body lotion, body wash, scented candles, beauty blog nz, fashion blog nz, style blog nz, beauty media nz, fashion media nz, angie fredatovich, gurlinterrupted, fashion, beauty

For those of you who have not yet heard of MARACA, take note now – I predict this is going to become a name synonymous in NZ skincare, spa and home fragrance.

MARACA founder, Chris Lim, was inspired to create his original range after travelling through Europe. Speaking to locals in small communities, he discovered plants and herbs that have been used in eastern medicine and spiritual practices for centuries. These ancient methods of boosting vitality and health are just as relevant today. Every scent, every colour and every texture tells the story of the precious benefits to be found within every ingredient. With his strong passion for quality skin care and previous involvement with well-known global cosmetic companies, Chris developed the MARACA range using this precious knowledge.

I actually covered MARACA on Gurlinterrupted.com several months ago (you can read my original post here: Introducing MARACA) and since then the brand has grown and changed significantly! Now MARACA has a new look, direction and several new collections.

The collection I picked up recently (the ‘Bloom’ collection) prompted me to find out a little more about the inspiration behind MARACA’s new look (which I have to say has a very ‘Chanel-esque’ look and feel, with its crisp black & white packaging, finished with gold-foil detailing. Again, not surprising given Chris’ previous work with global cosmetic and perfumery brands).  Chris wanted a more minimalistic, yet luxurious, clean look and feel, befitting his new streamlined collections.  Moving away from producing a plethora of products, Chris focused only on the items that his clientele favoured.  In skincare – body washes, body lotions and hand creams.  In home fragrance – candles and diffusers.

Each collection is personally developed and created by Chris using sustainable practices that do not support animal testing, nor the use of parabens.  He is devoted to the ethical use of the finest natural and nourishing plant essences, and all packaging is 100% recycled and 100% New Zealand made!

The BLOOM collection includes a body wash, body lotion and hand cream of the highest quality, with the most beautiful & delicate scent that lingers on your skin throughout the day.  Oh, and the candles are also incredible (I grabbed one from the MARRAKESH collection). The MARACA candles fill your home with a delicious scent that seems to last all day, after only an hour or two burn-time.

MARACA, skincare, skin care, hand cream, body lotion, body wash, scented candles, beauty blog nz, fashion blog nz, style blog nz, beauty media nz, fashion media nz, angie fredatovich, gurlinterrupted, fashion, beauty

Now, Chris isn’t one to boast (so I’m going to do it for him), but lets just say the well-known global cosmetic companies he worked for are some of the biggest names in the beauty industry, and it’s within this industry that Chris has built a reputation for having expert knowledge in perfumery, along with the rare ability to create the most exquisite combination of scents, each unique and perfectly balanced to tell any story requested of him, purely through a sensory journey.  So much so, I happen to know Chris has been personally requested to create a unique perfume for not one, but two, rather well-known New Zealand media personalities. Yes, he’s that good!

SMASHBOX – Photo Finish Blemish Control Primer

SteamCream, Steam Cream, Crombie & Price, UK Beauty Award, Kim Bowkett-Moore, Farmers NZ, trilogy nz, trilogy botanical body wash nz, bare pr, bianca talaic, MORcosmeticsNZ, MOR Cosmetics nz, Richard Stott, limited edition Destination Summer 2013, Weleda, WELEDA NZ, Natural Hair Care, BB Plus Cream, BB Cream, makeup, ModelCo, ModelCo NZ, BDM Grange, Melinda Jones, Shiseido, shiseido nz, shiseido Suncare Foundation, Elizabeth Arden NZ, Elizabeth Arden Beautiful Color Precision Glide Lip Liner, best lip liners nz, smashbox cosmetics, smashbox nz, publicity pr, smashbox blemish control primer, skincare, smashbox always sharp waterproof kohl liners, beauty blog nz, fashion blog nz, style blog nz, beauty media nz, fashion media nz, angie fredatovich, gurlinterrupted, fashion, beautyOk so I don’t have acne, although if I did, this new Blemish Control primer has the ingredients to treat it.  Nor have I ever had really bad problem skin, however I do indeed get the odd breakout now and then (why does this always happen right before a big event?) so I’m well aware of that sinking feeling of wanting a flawless makeup look, but knowing that any makeup I apply is probably going to make my skin look worse in the long run by further clogging up my pores in the bid to cover up blemishes and breakouts.

The fact that Smashbox has developed a primer that not only perfects skin instantly, it also treats the toughest of acne without stripping skin of its natural oils, is just plain brilliant!  Combining the science of skincare with makeup, this velvety perfecting primer contains 2% salicylic acid to combat the toughest of acne. It even states “Clinical tests have even shown a visibly clearer complexion after just two weeks”.  If that’s not enough to convince you this is the ‘primer of the year’, it still does all the things you need a primer to do – nourish, hydrate, minimise the appearance of skin imperfections, create a flawless base for your foundation and enhance the wear of your makeup, all without the worry of breakouts.

I’ve been using a Smashbox primer for years (I still do), and this new addition to their primer family makes me soooo happy!  It looks, acts and feels exactly the same as my everyday ‘go to Smashbox primer’, with the addition of treating any breakouts!  LOVE LOVE LOVE this Blemish Control primer.

RRP $76.00  Available from selected pharmacies, beauty spas and the Smashbox Concept Store in Ponsonby.

SMASHBOX – Always Sharp Waterproof Kohl Liners

SteamCream, Steam Cream, Crombie & Price, UK Beauty Award, Kim Bowkett-Moore, Farmers NZ, trilogy nz, trilogy botanical body wash nz, bare pr, bianca talaic, MORcosmeticsNZ, MOR Cosmetics nz, Richard Stott, limited edition Destination Summer 2013, Weleda, WELEDA NZ, Natural Hair Care, BB Plus Cream, BB Cream, makeup, ModelCo, ModelCo NZ, BDM Grange, Melinda Jones, Shiseido, shiseido nz, shiseido Suncare Foundation, Elizabeth Arden NZ, Elizabeth Arden Beautiful Color Precision Glide Lip Liner, best lip liners nz, smashbox cosmetics, smashbox nz, publicity pr, smashbox blemish control primer, skincare, smashbox always sharp waterproof kohl liners, beauty blog nz, fashion blog nz, style blog nz, beauty media nz, fashion media nz, angie fredatovich, gurlinterrupted, fashion, beautyWhilst on the topic of Smashbox, they’ve released another fabulous new collection with their Always Sharp Waterproof Kohl Liners. I swore I would never use the term “game-changer” (many years in a marketing team, repetitively hearing, and admittedly using this double-barrel descriptor will do this to a girl), however I really can’t come up with a better term to describe Smashbox’s new Always Sharp Waterproof Kohl Liners (especially the colour ‘Bare’)!!

With a handy sharpener built right into the lid, it works to tidy the tip of the liner every time you screw the lid shut.  There are eight shades in the range: Raven (black), Sumatra (cool toned dark brown), Storm (a beautiful smokey grey), Penny Lane (light brown with a subtle shimmer), Cabana (aqua green), French Navy (the perfect navy blue hue), Violetta (a warm toned purple), and the liner I’ve been using – Bare (a totally wearable velvety nude).  Now I want to touch on this ‘bare’ hue a little more.  When I first saw it I thought “really, a skin coloured eye-pencil? Hmm, can really see this doing anything”. WRONG! Never in all my years of makeup artistry have I ever thought to use  a skin-toned eye pencil. White, yes – this opens the eye up by extending the white of your eye, but a skin colour? never! This Smashbox Always Sharp Waterproof Kohl Liner in the hue ‘bare’ is my eye-makeup find of the year!  It still does the same job a white liner does, but without the obvious hit of stark white.  I cannot believe I’ve never used this tone before.  It gives such a lovely fresh, ‘I’m not wearing makeup, but I am’ look.  It cancels out any redness around the eye, making the eye area look flawless, and the creamy kohl texture glides on so effortlessly, it’s an amazing new addition to my makeup kit and I want to tell everyone to start using it!

RRP $46.00  Available from selected Life Pharmacies, beauty spas and the Smashbox Concept Store in Ponsonby, or online at www.smashboxcosmetics.co.nz

Well, other than the fact it comes packaged in the most adorable tin (there are a number of different designs available and they make quite the collectable once you’ve used all the product) it’s the process for making Steam Cream that gives it a point of difference. Taking its name from the boutique French process in which it is made – raw ingredients are fused together using a shot of bubbling hot steam, thus ‘Steam Cream’ (rather than mixed artificially using chemicals). It happens at a speed which defies most traditional cream making methods and gives the finished product a unique texture.  Steam Cream contains ingredients such as Orange Flower Water, Almond Oil, Cocoa Butter and much, much more, all of which gives Steam Cream an absolutely heavenly scent. Plus all ingredients are from sustainable sources and its 100% cruelty-free.

Although primarily designed for the face, Steam Cream is a multi-use moisturiser with a light creamy texture containing natural ingredients that penetrate quickly into the skin.  As I touched on earlier, the packaging is absolutely adorable, using eco-friendly aluminium tins with constantly updated designs, they make for a fabulous storage container that look beautiful on your beauty counter.  To date I have actually accumulated quite a few designs – Flying Hearts, Scattered Hearts, Buttons, the Lou Lou tin (featuring a gorgeous lil kitty cat) and the Union Jack.

RRP $29.90  Available at selected pharmacies & Farmers stores nationwide.  For more information head to: www.facebook.com/steamcreamnz

Even with their new-look packaging design, Trilogy is instantly recognisable.  I for one am more than familiar with their skin care line, of which is nothing short of magnificent.  What I didn’t know until very recently is that they produce Botanical Body Wash.

Formulated from a delicate blend of aroma-therapeutic oils, non-drying cleansers and pure plant extracts (inc. kawa kawa from the leaves of the native New Zealand pepper tree), this unisex shower gel leaves your skin soft, smooth and well – impeccably clean.  The scent is really lovely, and although I know Trilogy were trying to be helpful in creating a unisex body wash, I just don’t know how happy I am about my guy thinking this means, and I quote “Sweet, this one’s basically mine”. Hmmm skipped right past ‘unisex’ and straight on to claiming it as his own. Neato.

The Trilogy Botanical Body Wash combines anti-oxidant-rich amla fruit to tone and rejuvenate, rose geranium to help soothe the senses and French lavender oil, cucumber and chamomile to soothe the skin.

RRP$ 29.90 (500 ml).  Available from selected pharmacies, department and health stores nationwide.

As if their exquisite spa, beauty and personal care range wasn’t enough, they then dazzled us with their 2013 Holiday Gifting Collection, and now they’ve released a limited edition ‘tantalizing tangerine Pantone 178’ Destination Summer Collection!

There are three styles to choose from – Barcelona Train Case, New York Pencil Case, and the set I have – Melbourne Cosmetic Purse Trio.

The Melbourne Cosmetic Purse Trio features three cosmetic purse sizes in a variation of materials. Perfect for daily use, and definitely great for travel, it’s a really well thought out trio, fabulous for makeup, brushes, pencils and so much more.  I’ve used the smaller of the three for jewellery, the medium size for my brushes and the largest for makeup (obviously I needed the largest purse for my makeup!!)

This beautiful tangerine hue just screams summer, and the gold hardware sets the scene for the luxurious look and feel synonymous with MOR Cosmetics.

Now I want to state that I thought about separating the trio of purses, as they’d make  for beautiful Xmas stocking fillers for friends and family, however clearly I am not that selfless, as I couldn’t part with them and have now filled all three.  But hey – I still think it’s a great idea!

RRP $44.99  Available from department stores, Redcurrant, gift boutiques, select retailers, and www.morcosmetics.com

AMECCdream, V&A, Auckland Museum, Selling Dreams, 100 years of fashion photography, beauty blog nz, fashion blog nz, style blog nz, beauty media nz, fashion media nz, angie fredatovich, gurlinterrupted, fashion, beauty

Last night media headed along to Auckland Museum for the launch of V&A Selling Dreams – 100 Years of Fashion Photography.  An exhibition encapsulating the glamour, mystery and drama of the world’s most striking fashion photographs.

AMECCdream, V&A, Auckland Museum, Selling Dreams, 100 years of fashion photography, beauty blog nz, fashion blog nz, style blog nz, beauty media nz, fashion media nz, angie fredatovich, gurlinterrupted, fashion, beauty

I strongly encourage anyone that has a love for fashion and/or photography to make sure they head along to Auckland Museum to see to this awe-inspiring exhibition. Each photograph tells its own story and every story is just so intriguing.  I found myself standing in front of some of the photos for up to 15 minutes, just in awe of the moment captured on film. Whether the moment captured is inspiring, mysterious, breathtaking, beautiful, sad, funny – the one thing they all have in common is simply stunning photography.

AMECCdream, V&A, Auckland Museum, Selling Dreams, 100 years of fashion photography, beauty blog nz, fashion blog nz, style blog nz, beauty media nz, fashion media nz, angie fredatovich, gurlinterrupted, fashion, beauty

I would have loved to of shared with you the images I saw in the gallery, even just one, alas we were under strict instructions that photographs in the gallery were not to be shared (ain’t nobody got time for copyright infringements), however what we could do was create our own photo shoot in the “Selling Dreams ECC Lounge” (found at the end of the gallery walk) so I’ve shared some of these with you, along with a few of the images exhibited within the ECC Lounge that we were allowed to snap…

The Race Day Style Edit Series: Part 1 – An Alternative to the Fascinator

What to wear to the races, horse races, fascinators, alternative to fascinator, style edit, The Race Day Series Style Edit, DIVA, Lily & Louis, WHAT TO WEAR The Race Day Series Style Edit: Part 1 - Alternatives to fascinators, beauty blog nz, fashion blog nz, style blog nz, beauty media nz, fashion media nz, angie fredatovich, gurlinterrupted, fashion, beauty

Given the time of the year I thought a “Race Day Style Edit Series” was in order…

With summer comes a many a horse racing event, and working out what to wear can be tricky.  It’s daunting trying to work through all the ins and outs of race day outfits – what to wear, finding an alternate to wearing a fascinator, ensuring you are appropriately dressed, yet comfortable, and at the same time – wanting something that’s a little more ‘standout’ than the average outfit – it is the races after all, and that means its time to go all out!

Kicking off The Race Day Series is “finding an alternative to the fascinator”.  Perhaps you are quite happy donning a fascinator.  If so, you might want to skip this and tune in for the 2nd post in this series.  I personally am NOT a fan of the average fascinator!  So when I was invited by The Sofitel to attend the Melbourne Cup Race Day, held in the Sabrage Suite at the Ellerslie Racecourse, what first began as excitement for an amazing day out with media friends in tow, quickly turned to dread at the thought of donning a fascinator, never mind the ‘what to wear’ factor!

I can’t quite put my finger on what it is exactly that I dislike about the average fascinator. Perhaps it’s that most fascinators all look somewhat the same to me, no matter where you get them from. They really do look like several variations of the same thing with the addition of extra random frills, bows, lace and lattice-work here and there. Or perhaps it’s that they look like something exploded out of your head, but froze mid explosion. Or perhaps (and I think this is probably where the underlying dislike comes from) no matter who dons a fascinator, I am instantly transported to the ‘clusterbeep’ that was Fergie’s daughters at Kate and Will’s wedding.  Now, this is clearly just my opinion, but does everyone not somewhat resemble Beatrice or Eugenie when wearing a fascinator?  No? Just me?  Ok, well that’s all I see anyway.  And so that’s why I wanted something a little different to wear to Melbourne cup, whilst still keeping in Race Day themed garb.

The bejewelled head chain – I am completely obsessed and in love with bejewelled headwear and am also quite keen on a floral headpiece.   And so this is exactly what I wore, as an alternate to the fascinator, for Melbourne Cup race day….

Now I aint gonna lie – I did not do my own hair!  I highly recommend going to get your hair done professionally (if the purse strings allow).  I got mine done by the fabulous Kurt at Dry & Tea – City Works.  It seriously takes a large chunk of the stress out of your day when you don’t have to worry about creating a fabulous up-do. I asked Kurt to create a hairstyle that would work in with my chosen bejewelled headband/chain/headdress (whichever you prefer) and said I would like something Gatsby-esque.  And this is what Kurt created (isn’t he amazing?!).

The head-piece that I’m wearing is from Diva and it was less than $30.  Total bargain!  I loved it so much I actually went back to Diva and bought 2 more slightly different variations so that I had something to wear to future summer race days.

Another fabulous alternative to the fascinator is a large floral headpiece.  Floral headpieces look fab with race day garb and they are so easy to make.  I actually whipped one up in less than 10 minutes, before heading out the door to see Ginny Blackmore at the Belvedere Red Party last Saturday night, where we had to wear something red (I wore all black and made my red floral headpiece was the ‘red feature piece’.  If you’d like a DIY Post on how to make your own floral headpiece, leave a comment below and let me know.

Hopefully this has given you a little Race Day inspiration.

Keep and eye out for this weeks VIVA in the NZ Herald this Wednesday – I believe this lil number might just be making an appearance. And stay tuned for my next Race Day post, where I’ll go into Race Day accessories, followed by a complete Race Day style edit.

Gatsby kisses xx

It has been a really busy couple of weeks with a tonne of events, launches and showroom days, so to give you a snippet of what’s been happening and what I’ve been up to, I thought I’d share with you my “Out and About” post, to give you an insight into the last week and a half of my life (well, some of the fun stuff anyway)! So grab a coffee, tea or perhaps a cheeky vino, and check out what I’ve been up to…

COACH
Coach has arrived from New York to the heart of Central Auckland.

Coach, the leading American accessories brand, celebrated the opening of its new store on Auckland’s Queen Street with a glamorous cocktail event. The boutique space is the brand’s first location in Auckland.

I headed along to celebrate the opening of the Coach flagship retail store last week (with the lovely Julie Roulsten), which launched with all the splendor you would expect of a brand such as Coach. It’s fabulous to see such an iconic brand that produces fine leather goods and beautiful accessories adored globally, finally open here in NZ. All the handbags I’ve spent hours perusing online were on display in the most glamorous form, befitting of such a beautiful brand such as Coach.  Check out some of the moments captured from the opening night…

BENEFIT COSMETICS BLOGGER EVENT
Last month Benefit Cosmetics opened a new beauty counter in Smith & Caugheys Newmarket, and to celebrate, Benefit invited beauty bloggers along to check out their new digs, receive a complimentary brow service, and view various Christmas makeup looks using some of their new Holiday sets. Guests enjoyed bubbles, nibbles and of course, perused all the beautiful new holiday gift sets, whilst stocking up on some of their favourite iconic best-sellers such as the “they’re Real” mascara and “POREfessional” pro balm, to name just a couple.  I tell you what, nobody packages beauty products like Benefit and their holiday gift sets are all that you would expect and more!  Beautiful sets encased in reusable tins, eyeshadow quads and skin correcting sets housed in vintage-esque books, and their skincare range showcased in genie-like bottles and jars.  Head on in to their beauty counter in Smith & Caugheys, Newmarket and check out their recently launched beauty destination – in the meantime, here are some snaps from the evening…

LILY & LOUIS – Autumn/Winter Media Preview Day
Showcasing their Autumn and Winter collections, Lily & Louis held their seasonal Media Open Day in typical fabulous L & L style – within the elegant and beautiful surroundings of their showroom, with bubbles, cocktails and delicious finger-food a-plenty. Fashion media got a glimpse of the upcoming ranges due to be released when the cooler weather arrives in 2014.  Whilst the showroom houses many of my favourite designers, I have to say Andrea Moore’s Winter ’14 collection was quite the standout; and with the launch of Andrea’s “I AM” range – simply the icing on the cake!  There is a piece in the “I AM” range  (ok there were several, but this one particular piece…) that is so damned amazing, it’s at the top of my ‘winter must-haves’ list.

Some of my favourite pieces & images from the day…

GINNY BLACKMORE – NZ parties with the world and (BELVEDERE)RED to launch World AIDS Day
NZ partied with Ginny Blackmore and Belvedere (RED) on Saturday night, joining other countries around the world for the first time to celebrate World AIDS Day. Ginny played to a full house at Auckland nightspot 1885 and the crowd joined her (I’m pretty sure it was everyone, not just me) as she belted out her double platinum single ‘Bones’.

Belvedere (RED) supports the (RED) Global Fund, launched by U2’s Bono and is the world’s leading financier of programs to fight HIV/AIDS in Africa.  December is World AIDS Awareness month and marks a time to celebrate how far the fight to end AIDS has come and raise awareness of the opportunity to deliver the world’s first AIDS-free Generation in over 30 years.

A fabulous night and an even more fabulous cause!!

BEAT PR – Winter 2014 Media Preview Day
Plenty to see at Beat PR last week when they held their Winter 2014 Media Showroom Day.  Showcasing many of the brands that I regularly feature on Gurlinterrupted, it’s always great to see what’s hitting stores now, and what’s coming up for the next season.  As one would expect from boohoo.com there’s a plethora of amazing pieces online now, and soon to be released.  Plenty of glitz and glam with their dazzling sequin range and the floaty boho and aztec print pieces are beyond amaze (not to mention totally affordable!). My FAVOURITE hair care range even makes an appearance (I swear Evo Calming Shampoo and Calming Conditioner will literally make your hair look and feel like silk!!  Like angel silk! Silky angel tears!! Ok, I have no idea what angel silk or tears feel like, but I’m pretty sure they feel like the result of using these Evo gems!).  Saben, Icebreaker, NOM*D, just to name a few, will have you dreaming of winter (the NOM*D winter range is phenomenal!!) and kikki.K has produced a delightful pastel palette of stationery and a superb leather goods range that will have your schedule and desk sorted in no time (I should probably look into this a bit more, with the amount of events on at the moment I don’t know whether I’m coming or going ha ha). Here are some of my favourite things spotted in the Beat PR showroom (I feel like I should state here – obviously I wasn’t a favourite ‘thing’ that I spotted, but I just love this fun pic)…

NAVEYA & SLOANE – The New Showroom Launch
Last week media were invited to the opening of Naveya & Sloane’s new showroom. Located on the top floor of the uber-cool Imperial complex (44 Queen St) guests arrived to a beautifully lit showroom with all the finest of Naveya & Sloane’s jewellery on display.  Guests mingled, the champagne flowed and the showroom was declared officially open!  Christmas is just around the corner too – so the timing couldn’t be better.  A girl can dream right?! (Just so you know, no – I’m not that girl dreaming of weddings and diamond rings – but I can damn sure appreciate a beautiful piece of  hand-made jewellery from Naveya & Sloane. Plus, diamonds are a girls best friend!)…

PUBLIC LIBRARY MEDIA DAY
Media headed to Grey Lynn to check out the latest winter collections from Public Library’s fabulous range of brands.  Guests mingled with the PL Ladies (Emma, Maggie and Sophie) enjoyed a few cheeky wines and took in all that winter has in store for us in Winter 2014. (Not a bad way to spend a Friday afternoon right?).

Vanishing Elephant has so many beautiful shoes heading our way (hello rose gold loafers!!) and it was great to see that unrealfur has an abundance of fabulous cruelty-free coats, jackets and vests to keep us all snug when the weather gets cooler.  Standout of the day the “In Vogue We Trust” t-shirt and Vanishing Elephant Rose Gold Loafers, LOVE!  Check out a few of my top picks from the day.
