Bloomin’ Marvellous – The Body Shop’s British Rose Collection

The Body Shop British Rose Collection NZ

If you follow me on Snapchat you will have caught my little news blast on The Body Shop’s British Rose collection early last week. If you didn’t see it, and you’re not following me on Snapchat, you should! Go on, do it now, add gurlinterrupted, seriously I can wait, I’ll be right here when you get back; and you’ll never miss another sneak peek again. Sorry, I digress. Moving right along…

Everything’s coming up roses with The Body Shop’s new British Rose range. A brilliantly British interpretation of a timeless icon of femininity.

Now, I want to just state, for those of you that may be worried this rose-scented range could be a tad granny-esque, fear not! Admittedly I wouldn’t normally rush to rose-scented skincare myself, however, The Body Shop’s British Rose scent is like no other. It’s light, floral and has just the right amount of sweetness cutting through the base notes, which for me, makes this collection absolutely irresistible.

The Body Shop British Rose Collection NZ

There are a number of pieces in the British Rose range – body butter, hand cream, shower gel, nail polish, lip and cheek tint, Eau de Toilette and more, however, the pieces that I really want to focus on are the ones that I’ve personally tried and fallen in love with…

British Rose Shower Gel – this beautiful body wash left a scent on my skin that I swear lasted the entire day. As far as I’m concerned, that’s doing its job and more. Sure, you’re in the shower to first and foremost get clean – check! But you also want a scent that you love, to last the entire day, and this shower gel does exactly that.

British Rose Instant Glow Body Essence – I want you to just close your eyes for a moment. Remember that beautiful glow your skin had when the first of the summer sun kissed your skin? Yes, you see it? Ok, the Instant Glow Body Essence will place that memory right there on your skin, regardless of the season. I cannot rave enough about just how amazing this product is. It does what a good moisturiser should do – it leaves your skin petal-soft and smells oh-so-good, but even better – it gives your skin the most beautiful, radiant glow.

The Body Shop British Rose Collection NZ

British Rose Instant Glow Body Butter – See above. Now add another dollop of velvety-rich moisture and you’ve got yourself The Body Shop Instant Glow Body Butter. It does everything that the Body Essence does in terms of radiance and glow, it’s just that bit more rich in the moisture department. If you have dry skin in need of extra care, the body butter is for you.

I’m sure everything else in the British Rose range is fabulous, and there’s nothing I tried that I didn’t love, but for now, I just wanted to focus on my absolute stand-outs! The three abovementioned products really are something special.

The Body Shop British Rose Collection NZ

For those of you here in New Zealand, lock 18 April in your diary; this is the day the British Rose collection arrives in-store. Oh, just one more ‘pearl of wisdom’ before I wrap this post up… Want to be in the good books this May? Grab a few pieces from the British Rose collection (or the entire range if you’re feeling super generous) and stash them away for Mother’s Day, of which is fast approaching (Sunday 8 May). No last-minute panic over what to get mum, and you’re guaranteed to move to ‘number one child’ status. You’re welcome!

MAC Cosmetics Flamingo Park

MAC Cosmetics Flamingo Park

If you’re not into a plethora of pinks, bold magentas, and delightful peaches, then look away [wallflowers need not apply] because this is not a collection for the minimalist. The girliest colour in the universe takes centre stage in this beautiful new MAC collection – Flamingo Park.

MAC Cosmetics Flamingo Park

With candy pink lipsticks, rosey blushes, fuchsia eyeshadows and nail varnishes that let you have your cake and wear it too, this sweet palette will make you want to throw on a sundress, grab a picnic and flock to the park like a flamboyance of flamingos. We’re twirling our dresses in delight over this wonderful, bright collection…

MAC Cosmetics Flamingo Park

There’s a nine-color eyeshadow pallete with shades that range from hot magenta to a ‘Floridazzle’ – a soft lime green, which we absolutely adore. There are three pigments and two pink nail lacquers. Nine lipstick hues (all  varying shades of pink), three lip liners and five Cremesheen lip glosses.

MAC Cosmetics Flamingo Park

As for blush, there are seven different options, from baby pink to apricot, and coral to hot pink. It also comes with a brush, two eyeliners and two mascaras.

MAC Cosmetics Flamingo Park

Yes, it’s a LOT of pink, and while we might not encourage you to wear it all at once, we absolutely do encourage wearing your ‘just desserts’, get your girly on and flaunt your flamingo.

Juicy Couture – Viva La Juicy Rosé

Juicy Couture Viva La Juicy Rosé

Raise your glass and make a toast! Viva La Juicy announces the launch of a new, sparkling scent, Viva La Juicy Rosé.

Viva La Juicy Rosé highlights the success of the Viva La Juicy portfolio by showcasing the scent’s playful side. The Rosé girl is the queen of light-hearted fun. She sees the world through rosé coloured glasses and celebrates in the most surprising of places. With one spritz, she lives life on #RoseEveryday and escapes to a whimsical garden oasis where she’s showered with glittering sunshine and pink champagne bubbles. Just like its muse, Viva La Juicy Rosé spontaneously transforms an ordinary day into an unforgettable, vivacious party.

Juicy Couture Viva La Juicy Rosé

Since the 2008 launch of Viva La Juicy, the iconic scent has given rise to a number of unforgettable sister scents – the sheer and romantic Viva La Juicy La Fleur, Viva La Juicy Noir the perfect scent for a night out and the over-the-top decadent scent, Viva La Juicy Gold Couture.

I’m a lover of sweet floral blends, so Juicy’s fragrances tick all the boxes for me, and the new Viva La Juicy Rosé just keeps on tickin’ those boxes! I’ve been spritzing my rosé every day for two weeks now and I’m just as in love with this scent as I was on day one. Viva La Juicy Rosé is everything we love about Juicy fragrances! Fruity, sweet, delicious & youthful – it’s the quintessential sweet fruity floral blend. Everything that you adore about Viva La Juicy is here, but on a lighter scale, with a more dominant rose note.

Inspired by the Viva girl’s free spirit, optimistic outlook and exuberance, Viva La Juicy Rosé offers a fresh twist on the classic scent. Viva La Juicy Rosé is an irresistible bouquet of honey-like pink blossoms, which pops with fizzy citrus perfection and is kissed by the glow of sensual amber. The scent perfectly captures the Viva La Juicy Rosé muse’s sparkling personality and vibrant world.

“The fragrance is like a burst of femininity. Like the tiny bubbles in champagne, it is an elegant celebration.” – Honorine Blanc, Perfumer.

Juicy Couture Viva La Juicy Rosé

The scent opens with the fresh fruity notes of Italian mandarin and William pear, intertwining with soft, decadent jasmine petals. At the heart are glamorous notes of rose centifolia, white peony and jasmine sambac, the ultimate bouquet for a lavish daytime garden party. Drying down with decadent ambrox and sensual orris abs and benzoin, the fragrance leaves the Viva Rosé girl with an air of mystery and allure.

Appealing to my inner magpie, the bottle is absolutely, glitzingly [now a word] stunning! Viva La Juicy Rosé transforms the ordinary with a pop of unexpected glam. Housed in the iconic Viva La Juicy-style bottle, this eye-catching design shimmers with an ombré effect, fading from splashy pink to radiant gold, differentiating Viva La Juicy Rosé from the Viva La Juicy collection. A chic champagne bottle charm hints at the celebratory fragrance inside.

Mi Piaci & Merchant Autumn/Winter 2016

There’s nothing we love more than new season collections, especially when we’re talking shoes! Mi Piaci and Merchant (the new name for Overland) are first on our hit list when it comes to curating our new-season must-haves. Their Autumn/Winter 2016 range is making it trickier than ever to narrow down our lust-list to just a few ‘wants’, oh, uh, we mean, ‘needs’, yes needs.

This season, Mi Piaci and Merchant combine refined modernity with the romance of Western detailing. Mi Piaci sees an elevated approach to the season, with hardware detailing and statement eyelets (one of my absolute standout pair of boots features the eyelet detailing) sitting alongside unique heels and refined silhouettes in the new collection. Meanwhile the Merchant range explores the rustic beauty of the west, channelling a legacy of craftmanship and practicality to reinterpret footwear classics.

To view the full Autumn/Winter Collections, head in-store to Mi Piaci and Merchant, but for now, just to give you a taste of what’s on offer, check out a few of our favourite shoes from the new season range…

My Style Edits For Farmers Autumn/Winter 2016

My Style Edits For Farmers Autumn/Winter 2016

Recently I headed along to the Farmers AW16 media preview to see what’s arriving in store on the fashion-front for the cooler seasons ahead. As an added (surprise) bonus, media were invited to create our own style edits using all the new season pieces that are soon to drop in store. Simply put, if we saw something that we really liked, we knew exactly how it would look on, as we had a model adorn our chosen pieces.

Check out the style edits I put together, and now have to own (yes, I will be heading in-store to grab these fab pieces myself) along with a few other pieces from the Farmers AW2016 collections that caught my eye…

Farmers hat, coat, knitted jumper, suede culottes, ankle boots.

WIN: A Signed Limited Edition Moa Skeleton Print by Shelton Woolright & More…

WIN: A Limited Edition Moa Skeleton Print by Shelton Woolright

Well known for his takeover judging stint on NZ’s 2015 X Factor Show (after the infamous departure of Natalia Kills and Willy Moon) and as drummer for iconic rock bands I Am Giant (we’re big, big fans!) and Blindspott, Shelton Woolright has a new project up his (ink-covered) sleeves…

When the names Shelton Woolright, Otis Frizzell, Flox (Hayley King), Askew One and Dean Sacred are used in one sentence, you know it’s going to be good. And good it is, with an event that encompasses both charity elements and a very important message.

The upcoming exhibition Lonesome Beast Native presented by Moa Brewing Co. is a continuation from the highly acclaimed 2014 creative collaboration and photographic series ‘Lonesome Beast’ between Shelton Woolright and Dean Sacred, and this time round has added a few more popular local names to the mix.

WIN: A Limited Edition Moa Skeleton Print by Shelton Woolright

The limited number of pieces (each hand numbered, signed and wax stamped on archival paper) will be on display in the iconic Old Elephant House at The Auckland Zoo between February 3rd and 26th, open to the public with viewing times adopting The Auckland Zoo’s regular opening hours.

The exhibition features 15 prints of Woolright’s photography, each customised with unique layers by one of the partner artists and for sale from $180 in sizes ranging from A3 to A0. Ten per cent of sales from all prints will go towards The Auckland Zoo Conservation Fund, supporting conservation efforts in the wild throughout New Zealand and overseas. Even if you’re not our lucky winner of this limited edition print and zoo passes, do head in and check out the exhibition (which ends February 26th) – not only is it a once in a lifetime opportunity, it’s sure to be an amazing viewing.

To further support the efforts of The Auckland Zoo Conservation Fund and to tie into the exhibition, naming-rights sponsor Moa Brewing Co. will be wrapping 15 of its Moa Methode Pilsner Magnum brews with the lead Moa image from the exhibit and contributing all proceeds of its sales to the Conservation Fund.

WIN WIN WIN

We have one hand numbered, signed and wax stamped A3 print up for grabs (valued at RRP$180) as well as 4 entry passes to the Zoo, to check out the exhibition.

Film Review: Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight

Last week, I was lucky enough to attend the NZ premiere of Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight, at which the man himself – Tarantino (along with our very own Zoe Bell) made an appearance at. After walking the black carpet and hearing from Quentin about his latest film, media settled in to their cinema seats for (close to) three hours of pure Tarantino talent. Here’s what you can look forward to…

Film Review: Quentin Tarantino's The Hateful Eight

Film Review: Quentin Tarantino's The Hateful Eight

Hateful_Eight-272

The first half of The Hateful Eight is essentially dialogue-driven and the second half full of twists and turns and lots of violence. Tarantino’s smart scripting makes The Hateful Eight almost play like a Broadway play, and it gives an exceptional ensemble cast of actors lots to work with.

If you’re the kind of moviegoer who got restless during the more dialogue-heavy sequences of “Death Proof” or “Reservoir Dogs,” you may find that there’s too much talk and not enough action. If, on the other hand, you enjoy a Tarantino-scripted conversation, or two or five — particularly in a period piece where the characters can’t make references to movies or TV shows, “The Hateful Eight” may well engage you as a darkly funny, locked-door mystery that’s in no hurry to show its hand.

Film Review: Quentin Tarantino's The Hateful Eight

The premise is simple. It’s a few years post-Civil War and at the opening in a very wintry Wyoming full of snowy conditions, a stagecoach comes into view carrying John Ruth (Kurt Russell) aka The Hangman who is handcuffed to his bounty, Daisy Domergue (Jennifer Jason Leigh) on the way to taking her in. Along the way a Bounty Hunter (Samuel L. Jackson) and would-be sheriff (Walton Goggins) join them before the weather forces a stop at Minnie’s Haberdashery, where they unexpectedly meet another group of men, rather than Minnie. There is Bob (Demian Bichir), Oswaldo Mowbray (Tim Roth), Joe Gage (Michael Madsen) and Gen. Sanford Smithers (Bruce Dern). Some of this group may not appear to be who you think they are, but here they are, ‘the Hateful Eight,’ gathered for a memorable night that turns very nasty.

Film Review: Quentin Tarantino's The Hateful Eight

The Civil War is still a recent, and touchy, subject for the group, what with Warren having fought on the Union side — and, it’s rumored, having killed many white soldiers on both sides — while Mannix was part of a CSA splinter army. But political differences are pushed aside when it becomes clear that not everyone is who they appear to be, and that there may be a conspiracy afoot.

Tarantino does play some dirty pool with the narrative, withholding particular bits of information from the audience until late in the game, but never more so than what Agatha Christie used to do in her prime. The pitch-black wit of “Jackie Brown” is on display here as well, making for engaging and unpredictable exchanges between the characters, even as the tension swells around them.

Once again, the filmmaker has assembled a top-notch cast and given them characters and dialogue that allow them to really sink in their incisors. It’s a fascinating ensemble, but if there’s an MVP, it’s Goggins, whose character turns out to be much more and much less than one might imagine on first viewing, straddling a fine line between clever and idiotic, villainous and sympathetic.

Film Review: Quentin Tarantino's The Hateful Eight

Now that he’s given us a comedic, indoor Western, one wonders what other strange genre mash-ups Tarantino has in store. The Hateful Eight” may frustrate some of his more literally sanguine supporters, but it’s nonetheless an entertaining piece of dialogue-driven theatre, with the occasional rifle-shot to the head.

In summary, Tarantino has done it again! He’s created an absolute masterpiece by taking the Western genre and creating an epic event!

WIN With Fullers: The Waiheke Summer Sailings Have Begun…

I like to think of Waiheke as my second home. A home away from home if you will. Having spent a vast majority of my childhood there (and a good amount of time now as an adult) I like to think there’s no other place like Waiheke; that’s quite as magical, that’s so close to the city, yet makes you feel like you’re truly ‘getting away’. If you haven’t visited Waiheke yet, you really must. And, thanks to Fullers, you might just do that for free…

To celebrate Fullers’ new, more frequent summer sailings, one lucky reader will win x2 return tickets (adult passes) to Waiheke, to experience for themselves, their very own taste of paradise over on Fantasy Island – aka Waiheke!

WIN With Fullers: The Waiheke Summer Sailings Have Begun…
