Get Wink-Worthy Lashes In A fLASH…

fLash Lash Serum BDM Grange Angie Fredatovich Gurlinterrupted New Zealand Beauty Blogger

This has got to be my Best (most cost-effective) Beauty Discovery yet!!

It’s no secret that eyelash accentuation has become the hottest cosmetic commodity, however eyelash conditioning products (that actually work) typically retail for anywhere between one to two hundred dollars and are generally only sold in beauty salons, and lets face it $100+ is a pretty big investment for a lot of girls.

I am going to admit something now that I’m a little embarrassed about, but here goes… I have actually bought and used, 3 lash serum’s over the last couple of years and yes they are the big names in lash serum – so they definitely worked, but it also means I’ve spent approximately $500+ in the blink of an eye (pun intended) on lash serum’s.  Last year, in a moment of clarity, I actually stopped buying lash serum solely based on the cost… that is until February this year when I found this little gem:  fLash – Amplifying Lash Serum.

fLASH lash serum BDM Grange New Zealand Beauty Blogger

There’s really not much more to say other than – IT’S $69,  IT WORKS and HERE ARE THE RESULTS….

fLASH lash serum BDM Grange Angie Fredatovich Gurlinterrupted New Zealand Beauty Blogger

Left to Right:    Before,    2-3 Weeks,     6-12 Weeks.

PS:  I checked out the ingredients on my other empty lash serum bottles (yes, I’m the geeky girl who kept the bottles so I could compare ingredients each time I bought a new serum) and there is NO DIFFERENCE between fLASH and LiLash (or the other brands for that matter) and we all know how expensive those other big brand names are. So there ya have it – get wink-worthy lashes for a fraction of the price.

Available at selected pharmacies nationwide, and online at www.mybeautystore.com

SUPER SIMPLE DIY: How To Make Your Own Matte Nail Polish

DIY- Make Your Own Matte Nail Polish New Zealand Beauty Blogger Angie Fredatovich

Matte nail polish is so on trend right now.  I’m especially addicted to a matte black French mani; and it just so happens that this is THE most simple DIY guide for creating Matte Nail Polish (yup, totally cost-effective too).

Follow these simple steps (and a couple of extra handy hints further below) and you’ll be DIYing your way to a collection of matte polishes in no time.

What you will need:

  • A small container for mixing.  I just used a small foil pie dish, of which you can pick a bundle up for a couple of bucks at the $2 store
  • A bottle of nail polish – I’ve used clear in the photo, but you can use any colour you want to turn into a matte polish
  • A stirrer – I find manicure sticks really good, but anything will do
  • Cornflour

DIY- Make Your Own Matte Nail Polish New Zealand Beauty Blogger

Just add equal parts of cornflour and nail polish into a small container, take the stirrer and mix well – yeah, that’s actually it!  You have your own matte nail polish.  Just don’t forget – once you’ve finished using the brush to apply your DIY polish, make sure you clean it with some nail polish remover before inserting it back into the polish bottle.

You will see from my pics, that I’ve used clear polish and this will look a little creamy – don’t worry it will apply pretty much clear (or just add less cornflour if you want super clear) and you can now apply over already painted nails to turn them matte.

Now, just one other super handy hint…  Got an eyeshadow that’s broken or crumbled? (hate it when that happens), well you can actually add eyeshadow to clear polish and it will have a very similar effect to cornflour, although I normally add both the eyeshadow and the cornflour to get a super matte polish with an added pigmented dimension.

You can do this with any nail polish colour at all – it works no matter the colour you add the cornflour to.  Also, as you will see from my matte black French mani pic above, once the matte polish has completely dried, just swipe a line of clear polish over the tips (use removable tape or mani stickers if you’ve not got a steady hand) and voila – matte french mani.

So I promised that I would blog my hottest picks from the boohoo.com A/W13 Collection, but it kinda went somewhat wrong…

Wrong in that my hottest picks of the season are now in my wardrobe!  Yup – it turned into an online shopping frenzy that all started with the boohoo.com Boutique Minnie Contrast Band Lace Prom Dress aka THE ULTIMATE TUTU DRESS!!  I fell deeply in love with this dress the moment I locked eyes on it at the BeatPR Media Showroom viewing a couple of weeks ago.  Not just ‘oh this dress is so beautiful’,  I mean like ‘crazy obsessed in love with this dress’ and the moment I got home I jumped online to ensure I didn’t miss out on said dress once my article went live; and lets just say my willpower pretty much dropped off the radar from that point on (hey, it’s free shipping to NZ, that makes it ok right?)

MARACA New Zealand – Skin Care, Spa and Home Fragrance

MARACA New Zealand by New Zealand Fashion Beauty Blogger Gurlinterrupted Angie Fredatovich

A few weeks ago a friend put me onto a new range of premium natural skin care, home fragrance and spa products – MARACA New Zealand.  What started as a quick browse online to see what they had to offer, turned into an overwhelming need to try their shampoo and conditioner – in all honesty I was mainly drawn to those 2 particular items solely based on the names – come on, who can resist a beautifully named range like ‘Butterfly Pea’ Shampoo & Conditioner?  After trying (and LOVING) the shampoo and conditioner (seriously my hair was so incredibly shiny and felt amazingly soft – kinda like when you’ve washed your hair using rain water, for those of you that have experienced tank-water life will know what I mean) I decided to look a little further into what else MARACA had to offer and what they were all about, only that resulted in a haul of more amazing products and I am now an avid fan, thus I wanted to share this new love with all of you.

Read on to see my tried and tested fav products I’m currently using right now, plus a little more info about MARACA New Zealand and it’s founder – Chris Lim (and before anyone asks – NO, I am not being paid by MARACA to talk or write about them – I just genuinely like discovering and sharing new-found loves).

Frangipani Candle $57.50
I am a candle FANATIC (I literally burn candles every day) and I’m not exaggerating when I say this is THE most amazing scented candle I’ve tried to date! The scent is like heaven in a jar and fills the house with the most amazing aroma in no time at all. Plus – it has up to 45 hours burn time. Winning!!

Maraca Scented Candle

Bourbon Vanilla Aroma Reed Diffuser $59.99
Those of you that know me will not be surprised that I opted for the vanilla scented diffuser – I LOVE anything vanilla scented & this is awesome!  This in the lounge means walking into a beautifully scented home every day after work.

Bourbon Vanilla Aroma Reed Diffuser

Lotus Stamen Bath Soap $14.99
I just don’t know how to describe the scent of this soap to do it justice – it smells like ‘the best kind of clean’.  Yes that sounds really odd – but it just smells so fresh and clean that ‘clean’ seems like the best way to describe this gorgeous soap.

Butterfly Pea Shampoo & Conditioner $27.99 each
Well as you’ve already read above – these beauties are simply divine.

maraca butterfly pea shampoo and conditioner new zealand beauty blogger
Bourbon Vanilla Hand & Body Lotion $35.50
This is my new ‘go to’ everyday vanilla body lotion.  A certain other company discontinued my old fav and quite frankly – I don’t care anymore – this is even better!

Maraca Bourbon Vanilla Body Lotion New Zealand Beauty Blogger

Lemon Grass Bath & Massage Oil $41.50
A few drops in your bath, then applied directly on your skin following your bath = super soft skin and again, the scent is so fresh, clean and just divine!

Ground Turmeric Foot Bath Salts $29.99
And the final item – confirming my OCD is engrained in all facets of my life – yup, it also extends to having immaculate feet.  I get a spa pedicure every fortnight with a french polish, but in-between my pedi I ensure that I keep my feet looking immaculate in every way possible and this little gem is fantastic for doing exactly that.  It’s perfect for sore/achy feet, but best of all it eradicates any dryness or cracked heels.  There is NO excuse for unkept feet!

Maraca Tumeric FootBath Salts New Zealand Beauty Blogger

MARACA produces premium quality NATURAL home fragrance, spa and body care products.  MARACA founder – Chris Lim, was inspired to create the range after travelling through Asia. Speaking to locals in small communities, he discovered plants and herbs that have been used in eastern medicine and spiritual practices for centuries. These ancient methods of boosting vitality and health are just as relevant today. Every scent, every colour and every texture tells the story of the precious benefits to be found within every ingredient. With his strong passion for quality skin care and previous involvement with well-known global cosmetic companies (I mean seriously well-known companies like Ralph Lauren, Hugo Boss, Gucci, DKNY, the list goes on), Chris began to develop the MARACA range using this precious knowledge.

Rihanna – Nude!

Rihanna Nude

No, not that kind of nude!  What I’m talking about is Rihanna’s latest fragrance – Nude.

I love discovering new fragrances, ok truth be told I’ve probably crossed the line into a ‘collector of perfumes’ (even just having a tray of delightful fragrance bottles on my dresser makes me happy!).

To be honest I never thought I’d be the kind of girl to get into ‘celebrity perfume’, I guess I just didn’t always see them as maybe being high-end perfumes, however I think it’s safe to say that after going through 2 bottles of Katy Perry’s Purr, a bottle of each of Taylor Swifts perfumes and now having discovered Rihanna’s perfume Nude – I am more than ‘into’ celebrity perfumes and they have more than proven to me that they are indeed high-end perfumes which now sit proudly amongst all my tried and trusted favs.

Rihanna Nude

I am loving Rihanna’s Nude so much that I thought it only fair that I share the love and spread the word about how good this scent truly is. I wish my website had a ‘smell perfume here‘ button, but I’ll do my best to explain just how beautiful and addictive this scent is. The prominent top notes are Guava Nectar, Mandarin and Pear (which I think is probably a glimpse into her native Barbados) and then there’s a blend of Orange Blossom, Gardenia Petals, Velvet Jasmin Sambac with feminine hints of Vanilla Orchid (I’m a sucker for anything vanilla and that base scent really comes through), woven together – this perfume is quite simply divine.

So if you’re on the hunt for a lovely new scent, check out Nude by Rihanna. RRP$49.00 (30ml), $79.00 (50ml) and $99.00 (100ml).

Number One Shoes Autumn 2013 Runway Show

Number One Shoes catwalk to side walk heel boots

Yesterday Gurlinterrupted attended the Number One Shoes Autumn 2013 Runway Show.  A fabulous event featuring their 5 new season trends – Military Precision, Opulence, Sports Luxe, Texas Trail and Tough Love.

Directly following the media runway show, an exciting and original giveaway was executed by the brilliant ladies of Starseed PR – Models walked straight from the runway to the sidewalk, delivering 50 pairs of boots to the eagerly awaiting public who had lined up outside Britomart’s ‘Agents & Merchants’ in the hope of being one of the 50 lucky girls receiving a free pair of boots (I heard one lady waited in line 2 hours prior to the event.  Now that’s determination).

Take a look at the snapshots from the event…

DIY: The Commando-M/Blogger Collab – A Modern Twist On The Oxford.

Commando-M Blogger Collab Kathryn Wilson Shoe Design

Commando-M Blogger Collaboration Kathryn Wilson Shoe Design

As some of you may already know, Commando-M sneakers are about to re-launch! Commando-M were one of the leading New Zealand shoe companies in the 80’s (I’m pretty sure nearly every ‘child of the 80’s’ had a pair of these super cute sneakers) and I’m happy to report – they’re making a comeback!

Commando-M has already collaborated with leading shoe designer Kathryn Wilson and now Commando-M is collaborating with a selection of New Zealand Fashion Bloggers. Gurlinterrupted was lucky enough to be one of those bloggers invited to design a pair of Commando-M’s and you can now see my design and many others, on Commando-M’s Facebook page: COMMANDO-M’s FACEBOOK PAGE

Here’s a simple step by step guide to re-creating my sneaker design – A modern twist on the Oxford.

You will need:
A Pair of Sneakers
A Silver Metallic Pen
2 Paintbrushes – A fine and a medium tipped brush
Silver Acrylic Paint
Iridescent Mixing Medium (paint) this will create a true metallic silver paint
A small dish to mix your paints in
Masking Tape
Silver Ribbon
Super Glue

Guide:
Take a pair of white Commando-M’s (or whatever sneakers you are re-designing) and remove the laces.  Here’s a ‘before’ picture of my Commando M’s:
Commando-M Blogger Collab Kathryn Wilson Shoe Design

Draw on the design using the Silver Metallic Pen. This will enable you to map out your concept using the same hues as the paint you will be using.
Commando-M Blogger Collab Kathryn Wilson Shoe Design

Your design should now be drawn out evenly across both shoes – something like this:
Commando-M Blogger Collab Kathryn Wilson Shoe Design
It’s time to start with the Masking Tape.  Basically you want to tape around all the parts of the shoe you DON’T want to get paint on.  I taped up the eyelets, the edges of the sole and around the edging close to where I was painting.
Commando-M Blogger Collab Kathryn Wilson Shoe Design
Now mix together your silver acrylic paint and iridescent mixing medium and start painting very carefully around the dotted design using a fine paintbrush (when painting the areas further away from the dotted design you can move to a larger paintbrush).
Commando-M Blogger Collab Kathryn Wilson Shoe Design
Allow paint to fully dry before removing the masking tape.  Add your finishing touches…. Take your silver ribbon, measure out the ribbon to the same size as the shoelaces you removed earlier and cut to size (I also lightly burnt the edge of the ribbon with a lighter to prevent fraying) and insert in place of the original shoelaces.  Create a small bow using the same silver ribbon and attach a bow onto the back heel of each shoe using quick drying Super Glue.

VOILA!  Oxford style sneakers.

The Business…

NZ Fashion Beauty Blogger Business Cards

Business Cards

Lately I’ve had A LOT of people ask me where I got my new business cards made (always a good sign that they are lookin fab), so I thought heck – probably about time I give the producer of these lovely cards a plug – he deserves it and more!

I’ve worked with Simon for over 5 years on various projects, so it made sense that when I needed business cards for my website, Simon was my ‘go to’ guy.

Here’s the outline I gave Simon for my cards “I want something that’s really me!  Something that say’s fashion, beauty, lifestyle without actually stating ‘fashion, beauty, lifestyle’.  I don’t want it to look cluttered; and I don’t really want colour, but I also don’t want it to look boring or like its come straight off some generic ‘order your business cards online company’.  I want it embossed, but I kinda want it debossed too and with a real point of difference, oh – and I want it to look beautiful and clean”.  Yes, I can imagine what you are thinking, this girls not high maintenance at all! ha ha Yes admittedly it was a tall order.  But look what Simon came up with.

NZ Fashion Beauty Blogger Business Cards

A beautiful heavy white stock used for the base of the card.  It features a mirror (yes an actual beautiful reflective mirror) with the mirror frame (which is one of my logos) embossed on one side.  On the opposite side of the card – all my website/contact details are surrounded by the same mirror frame – only on this side, the mirror frame is debossed. Isn’t he clever!!

NZ Fashion Beauty Blogger Business Cards

So, if you are after some cool business cards, printing. promo gear, or anything branded for that matter SIMON SKELTON OF STATIC COMMUNICATE is your man!! (warning…. I’ve made him swear on his life to never replicate a mirrored business card or mirror frame ever again ha ha – not that any of you wouldn’t want your own original masterpiece of course!)

You can reach Simon by visiting his website STATIC COMMUNICATE or via email simon@staticcommunicate.co.nz
