Nail Art – How To Paint Nail Designs Perfectly On Both Hands!! (you don’t need to be ambidextrous)…

Ever wanted to paint pretty designs on your nails but found that it was impossible to DIY because you have one dominant hand that’s brilliant at drawing designs and the other hand that’s, well, not so much? Here’s a solution!  Prepare your designs before applying to your nails….

You will need:
Nail Polish
Ziploc BAg – like a sandwich bag or something similar (not cling wrap as it’s just too flimsy)
Clear Top Coat
A Hairdryer (if you’re impatient)
A Nail File

– First, paint your designs onto a Ziploc bag (as I’ve done in the below pics).  You will need to do fairly thick
coats and probably around 2 coats in total.
– Allow each coat to fully dry before applying the next coat (this is where you may want to use a hair dryer set
at ‘cool’)
– Apply a base coat to your nails
– Peel your designs off the Ziploc bag and place them on your nails
– Finish with a topcoat and viola – you’re done!

If you find that the design is hanging slightly over the end of your nail, use a nail file to gently file away any stray ends.  Then apply your top coat.

Bobbi Brown Flagship Store Launch…

Last week saw the official media launch of Bobbi Brown Cosmetics’ first free-standing store in Auckland.  The exclusive line developed by celebrated makeup artist Bobbi Brown, brings the ‘you, but better’ brand experience to life with the opening of the flagship store located in the fashionable Britomart Precinct.  The Store is an expression of Bobbi’s unique philosophy and aesthetic; and the perfect way for consumers to discover Bobbi’s range of colour cosmetics, brushes, fragrance, skin care and expert services.

A stylish soiree with live music, delicious Veuve Clicquot, caviar and oysters.  A standout for me has to be the lovely ladies of Bobbi Brown – what a breath of fresh air they all are.  Not only were they incredibly helpful (without being in your face!), bursting with beauty industry knowledge and passionate about their brand, they made me feel like I was chatting with a friend whilst I asked them, what felt like a million questions, about all the different products and which product best met my needs.  A rare, yet very much appreciated quality indeed!  Oh and they didn’t bat an eyelid at the many colour swatches I tested on, well, pretty much every square inch of my hands and arms!

Latest Beauty Product Love: Savar

Thought I would write a quick wee late night Sunday post as I am genuinely excited about my latest little treasure I’ve discovered.  I am forever scouring the stores and looking online for new beauty products – always hoping that I’m going to find that amazing product that genuinely has me excited!!  For me, discovering a beauty product/make-up item that captures my attention and has me buzzing to share my new gem, is like finding treasure on a never-ending beauty product treasure hunt.  So here’s a little snippet on my latest discovery……..

Savar Essential Hydration Moisturiser

Enriched with New Zealand starflower oil, organic rosehip oil and mimosa extract, this facial moisturiser is absolutely divine!!   Admittedly I’m incredibly fussy when it comes to beauty products (some may even say ‘a beauty product snob’) so I really didn’t expect to be quite this enamoured with a brand that’s fairly new to me. Made in New Zealand, 99% natural and free from harmful chemicals, paragons, detergents, mineral oils and most importantly – no animal derived ingredients.  Savar’s moisturiser leaves no greasy, heavy residue, absorbs easily and has left my skin so soft and just feeling absolutely amazing!   The moment this bottle runs out – I will be purchasing this without a doubt!

Sandra Castle’s love affair with shoes started as a young child. City Designers Market

It’s been a while since I visited the City Designers Market (CDM) and to be honest, I have no idea why or how I forgot about this little gem!  This is such a great market because; (A) it’s supporting local designers – in fact, more times than not, the actual designers themselves are there, (B) Location – perfect for grabbing a coffee, parking up on the bench seats in Freyberg Square and ‘people watching’ (a guilty favourite pleasure) after you’ve perused all the designer goodies at CDM, (C) you can get genuine bargains on fab designer garments (and not just any ol designers either – well established, amazing and creative designers)!  The City Designers Market is a boutique clothing market above High St, in the heart of Auckland’s CBD. A collective effort from six designers: Flox, Harriett Falvey, Hannah Morgan, Misty Lang, Ribbon on a Bombshell and Selector clothing; located at 1 Freyberg Place, High Street, Auckland.

Now, here’s the thing….I’ve yet to leave this sassy little indoor market without purchasing something (and when I say ‘purchasing something’, in reality I mean ‘purchasing at least 2 or 3 items of clothing’) so don’t say I didn’t warn you!!

I Love Ugly

I Love Ugly are the winners of the FINZ DHL Express Fashion Scholarship Award!

The DHL Express Fashion Scholarship, designed to identify the country’s hottest up-and-coming fashion exporter and assist them in achieving international growth, announced the finalists and overall winner of the award, that in the past helped launch some of the biggest names in the fashion industry, such as Stolen Girlfriends Club, Lonely Hearts, Twenty Seven Names and NYNE.

The finalists, competing for a NZ$10,000 scholarship: 2012 finalists I Love Ugly, Ingrid Starnes and Gosia Piatek of Kowtow.

The designers of New Zealand fashion label I Love Ugly have been awarded the $10,000 DHL Express Fashion Export Scholarship for 2012, establishing them as New Zealand’s top emerging fashion exporter.

I did not envy the judging panel, consisting of New Zealand’s top fashion and export industry leaders such as: Kate Sylvester, Erica Crawford of Kim Crawford Wines, Carolyn Enting of Mindfood, Megan Wildermoth of DHL Express and Paul Blomfield of FINZ. They did a stellar job choosing the overall winner.

A huge congratulations to I Love Ugly – a brand that is sure to become a global phenomenon!

Must Haves

I thought since nzgirl.co.nz asked me to compile my ‘Hot Five’ (basically, a compilation of what I view as being the 5 latest and greatest ‘must haves’ on my radar) for their website, why not do a similar post on my site for you lovelies.  Here are my Hot Five – Must Haves for the month.

1.  LOVING_Karen Walker Enamelled Jewellery

3.  LISTENING ON REPEAT_The Civil Wars
The Civil Wars is my ‘must-have’ album for summer!  For the last few weeks I’ve had their cover of Michael Jackson’s Billie Jean on loop!  Their introduction to the world was just prior to the album release when one of their songs (Poison & Wine)was heard on Grey’s Anatomy in the foreground, in its entirety, over a key climactic montage, prompting hundreds of thousands of viewers to Google the mystery music.  Each song is an intimate conversation and their album is hauntingly beautiful. Click here to listen to Billie Jean on YouTube.  Dance me to the end of love is another great track.

4.  DOWNLOADING_  BoD (Band of the Day)
If you’re a music lover, BoD (Band of the Day) is for you. BoD is a great (free) app that helps you discover hundreds of new singers/bands that you might not of otherwise ever discovered. BoD highlights a different band each day, providing a bio, news, interviews, images, video, and free streaming music. I’ve discovered so many cool new artists with this app that I can’t remember what I did before I had it.Download the app here.

5.  COUNTING DOWN FOR _Cosmetic Advent Calendar!
Christmas is just around the corner and I LOVE Christmas! From choosing the perfect tree and decorating the house to the smell of pine trees and picking presents for family and friends – I’m all about it.  Cute and gimmicky, but I don’t care – I love it – the Cosmetic Advent Calendar!  This bad boy combines two of my favourite things, Christmas and beauty!  Each window you open in the lead up to Christmas has a beauty product behind it.
