Plantae: New Zealand Certified Organic Skincare. Showing The World How It’s Done!

I consider myself extremely lucky to have come across this absolutely amazing skincare range – Plantae Certified Organic Skincare.  It’s one of the few ‘certified’ Organic Skincare ranges made and manufactured in New Zealand – Nelson to be exact.

Plantae, carol priest, amy cunningham, cunningham communications, New Zealand Organic Skincare, certified organic skincare, beauty blog nz, style blog nz, fashion blog nz, makeup

Founded by international organic skincare expert Carol Priest, together with her daughters, Janelle, Fiona and Jacinta Priest, Plantae features three unique ranges – Purify, Balance and Hydrate, so they’ve got every skin type covered.  The products that I’ve been using for the last few weeks are from the Hydrate range (just what my skin needs during winter!) which includes:

  • Hydrate Rose Essential Water with Blackcurrant Leaf and Pine Bark Extract
This product is very cool!  It comes in the form of a spritzer and smells like heaven-in-a-bottle.  It’s basically a toner with a synergistic anti-aging complex of Auvergne Pine Bark and Blackcurrant Leaf – both powerful anti-oxidants.  The blend includes pure organic Bulgarian Rose Otto oil and pre steam-distilled Rose Water.  Its soothing and regenerative effects are nothing short of amazing.
  • Hydrate Pacific Blue Lavender Rich Cream Cleanser with Blackcurrant Leaf and Pine Bark Extract
This little beauty is a rich cream cleanser that rejuvenates dry skin.  It has circulatory and anti-aging properties that promote smooth, healthy skin.  In a nutshell – it replenishes your skin whilst cleansing it and it smells good enough to eat!  I seriously need a ‘smell here’ plugin on my website 😉
  • Hydrate Pomegranate Superfruit Rich Day Cream with Blackcurrant Leaf and Pine Bark Extract
This rich creamy day cream has a unique blend of organic extracts to help regenerate dry and sensitive skin.  Enriched with skin-protecting anti-oxidants, superfruits and omega essential fatty acids (EFA’s) like Rosehip fruit and Blackcurrant Seeds.  Super-critical Pomegranate Seed extract improves skin elasticity and firmness, while anti-aging Auvergne Pine Bark and Blackcurrant Leaf extract regenerate skin.  Organic Bulgarian Rose Otto is added for its intoxicating fragrance and healing properties.   This is one fabulous day cream if you have normal to dry skin – it has already done wonders for mine!
  • Hydrate Rosehip Fruit Omega Rich Night Cream with Blackcurrant Leaf and Pine Bark Extract
OK – this one’s a new addition to the range, a brand new night-cream (just in time for the cool and dry winter nights) so I was pretty excited to see if it lived up to the rest of the Plantae Hydrate collection.  Well, I can happily report – this is beyond amazing!  it’s a rich nutritive night cream that contains an abundance of naturally occurring antioxidants, essential fatty acids and vitamins found in Rose Hips, Seabuckthorn Berries, Borage and Evening Primrose Seeds to promote skin regeneration and improve skin elasticity to assist with slowing down the ageing process.  It also contains Auvergne Pine Bark and Black Currant Leaf extracts, Organic Bulgarian Rose Otto and New Zealand Pacific Blue Lavender.  Seriously they have jam-packed this night cream with every single goodie you need to rejuvenate, rehydrate and replenish your skin – and all while you’re sleeping! It’s like a vitamin injection – sans the needle!

Plantae, carol priest, amy cunningham, cunningham communications, New Zealand Organic Skincare, certified organic skincare, beauty blog nz, style blog nz, fashion blog nz, makeup

Now, for those of you that may be thinking “but I’m only 20-something, I don’t need anti-ageing creams” I CANNOT stress this enough – you are NEVER too young for anti-ageing creams!  It’s near impossible to turn back the hands of time, so if you are going to do something to slow down these signs and make sure your skin looks as good as possible, for long as possible – do something about it now!  My mother instilled the importance of skin-care in me from a very, very young age – moisturiser every day, a light night cream each evening, and when I was old enough to wear it – never did a drop of makeup stay on my face at bed-time; and I am grateful for my mums strict skin-care regiment every single day.  I’m often told I look 10 years younger than I actually am (to be honest – I still feel like a bit of a kid most of the time) and yeah, I’m pretty damn happy with my skin and how I look for my age, so I guess all of these goodies like Plantae Organic Skincare are more than worth investing in.

Oh and if you’re no longer in your 20’s, it’s never too late to start looking after your skin!

Plantae is available at selected pharmacies, health food stores and online www.plantae.co.nz

PS: If you’ve not yet tried the Carol Priest Almond & Lemonbalm Facial Scrub – you must!  It’s pretty damn amazing.

Beauty Banter – On My Vanity Table This Week…

Beauty, makeup, cosmetics, beauty blog nz, style blog nz, beauty media nz, PR NZ, Angie Fredatovich, Nails, Nail design, across my desk, from the beauty editors desk, beauty banter

The past week has been jam-packed with beauty, well, ‘beauty Products’ to be exact.  Inspired by all of the latest lovelies on my cosmetics counter, I thought a dedicated beauty post was in order.  Read on to discover what beauty gems have recently been released (some of them aren’t even in-store yet, so you’ll be getting a sneak peek at some soon-to-be-released items), along with a couple of items that aren’t necessarily new, but they are items that I’m really enjoying…

First up – INIKA’s Spring 2013 Limited Edition Colour Collection – Enchanted.  Inspired by the floral-motifs that filled the spring 2013 runways, lush floral and fresh foliage, INIKA’s limited edition colour collection – Enchanted, combines everything you need to achieve a truly enchanting look that captures the magical essence of spring.  It’s right on-trend with the colours and makeup styles seen on the recent SS13 runways worldwide – strong 60’s themed winged eyes, softly stained lips paired and subtle contouring to bring out facial features for a fresh and lifted spring look.  This limited edition, natural, organic makeup collection includes: Mineral Matte Eye Shadow in Cornflower, Mineral Eye Shadow in Honeycomb, Certified Organic Creme Colour for Cheeks & Lips and an Organic Eye Liner in Coco.  Available in store from August 1st at selected pharmacies and health food stores.  For more info, you can check out INIKA online by following this jump: www.inikacosmetics.co.nz.  In my personal opinion I thought some pieces of the collection were better than others, but again, this is just my opinion.  I’m not a big fan of loose eye-shadow pigment (I prefer my shadow in pan or cream form) so I probably wouldn’t look to repurchase those. What I did love was the cheek and lip tint (both for its hue and 2-in-1 convenience). I also really liked the eye liner pencil as the application was effortless (no need to pull at the delicate skin around your eye to apply as it glides on easily) and the colour – a nice warm brown.

Maybelline New York – Color Show Nail Polish. A fashion fix for your fingertips – Color Show comes in 25 runway ready shades for bolder, crisper colour!  The Maybelline hues I’m currently enjoying, as pictured below, are: (L-R) Coral Crush, Chiffon Chic, Plum Paradise, Impeccable Greys and Onyx Rush.  Oh and I heard that Maybelline’s new ‘Nail Art Factory app’ will be launching on Facebook this month.  The app will allow you to upload your own nail art and share looks with friends, browse through the nail art gallery, watch tutorials, or just simply try on all the shades. Pretty darn cool right?  Keep an eye out for this mid-June.

APOCALIPS LIP LACQUER by RIMMEL and LUSTRE SHINE NAIL COLOR by SALLY HANSEN.  APOCALIPS Lip Lacquer encompasses the intense colour of lipstick with a smooth lacquer-like shine.  Forget the dryness of many long-wear lipsticks, forget the stickiness of gloss, Apocalips has a creamy and conditioning texture that glides on easily and evenly whilst packing a powerful colour punch!  The packaging is equally explosive with its spectacular jagged edges and dramatic black colour code.  There are 8 shades to choose from and RRP is $17.99.  Available 8th July from Farmers, Kmart and The Warehouse. My Apocalips lacquers featured below are Stellar (red) and Nova (pink).

Another ‘soon to be released’ product – LUSTRE SHINE NAIL COLOR.  A new collection from Sally Hansen featuring eight incandescent nail hues infused with REAL SILVER!!  These nail varnishes are like no other.  They capture the light and deliver the most captivating, prismatic effect imparting a mother-of-pearl, glowing, iridescent finish. Seriously show-stopping nail polish. My hue of choice, as pictured below, is ‘Scarab’.   The Lustre Shine Nail Color Collection is available June 12 from Farmers and selected Pharmacies.  RRP$12.00.

My absolute favourite URBAN DECAY (UD) products have been well and truly replenished this week!  I cannot live without these UD products and as you can see, I’ve made sure I won’t run out any time soon.  If you haven’t yet tried UD’s 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencil you are seriously missing out!  It is like no other eye pencil!  I use the colour Bourbon (a rich chocolate-brown) and I can’t even begin to express just how good this is.  It’s THE perfect eye pencil! The colour lasts all day, gives 100% colour payoff, it has a soft kohl consistency and glides on like a dream (thus the name I guess).

My other UD ‘must-have’ is the 24/7 Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner.  Again – simply amazing.  It has a really good applicator, making it super simple to apply and the colour stays on ALL DAY, without fail.  The other thing that I love about this particular liquid eyeliner is that it dries with a glossy finish, so it continuously looks fresh and vibrant, which in turn gives you that ‘just applied’ look throughout the entire day.  I have the following colours (which personally I think are the best colours). Revolver – a gorgeous glistening silvery grey. It honestly looks like you have lined your lid with pure molten silver.  Perversion – a glossy black. Demolition – a rich chocolate-brown with shine – sans the sparkles.  All of these liquid liners have a glossy finish that just won’t quit!

Last but not least – Urban Decay Eyeshadow Transforming Potion.  Not too many people know about this little gem, yet it’s one of the most clever makeup inventions to come out of UD!  This product will transform any eyeshadow of choice, into liquid eye colour! Yup – it transforms eyeshadow into a liquid liner OR liquid shadow.  It has a dual wand so you can dip the larger brush (packed with potion) into your favourite shadow to create rich, smudge-proof colour, or you can use the thin brush for precision lining. Genius!   You can purchase Urban Decay from many online stores based right here in NZ (thank goodness, because up until about a year ago I was having to get friends to send them over from the US).

MOR COSMETICS. I am a certified MOR addict!  The packaging, the fragrance (and obviously the quality product), what’s not to love?!  Every time I see something new by MOR I will convince myself (and anyone within earshot) that I simply MUST have it! Necessity obviously!  My latest love – the ‘My Sweet Vanity Gift Pack’ in the scent Lychee Flower.  This gift pack contains a Lip Nectar, Perfume Oil and purse-size MOR Vanity Mirror, of which all comes packaged in a limited edition makeup purse.  Love, Love, Love!  Available in-store now.

Last but not least, my latest infatuation – Nail Art STRIPING TAPE.   I normally get my nails done professionally, but lately I’ve actually been doing my own nails as it seems crazy not to use all the fab nail polish I’ve been getting, plus I’ve been loving creating my own nail designs using Nail Art Striping Tape. Funnily enough I’ve actually received more comments on my nails since I’ve been doing them myself.  The recurring question – ‘how have you created metallic lines so perfectly on your nails?’  The answer – this super cool ‘nail art striping tape’ of which you can pick up for next to nothing. I got around 30 rolls in a variety of metallic colours for $6 on TradeMe.

PS: I also want it noted that I resisted the urge to answer the abovementioned ‘nail question’ with ‘I’m a natural with super-steady hands and an eye for detail’.

Beauty, makeup, cosmetics, beauty blog nz, style blog nz, beauty media nz, PR NZ, Angie Fredatovich, Nails, Nail Art, Nail Polish, Nail design

Well Beauty Babes – that’s my beauty banter for this week.  Any fab new beauty treats you’ve picked up lately that I should know about?  If so, I’d love to hear about them.

Wearing My New Karen Murrell Violet Mousse Lipstick…

KAREN MURRELL VIOLET MOUSSE LIPSTICK: AN EVERYDAY AUTUMN/WINTER ESSENTIAL!

Violet is the colour of passion, extravagance, dazzling gems and femininity. It is also the reigning lipstick colour of choice during the seasons of autumn and winter; and with the weekend being overcast and chilly, I decided to brighten up the last couple of days by taking my new Karen Murrell Violet Mousse Lipstick for a test drive (ok, so I just wore it, test drive just sounded more exciting).

From day to night, Violet Mousse is just as appropriate worn to a breakfast meeting or touched up for after-work dinner drinks. This is the ultimate ‘little black dress’ lipstick colour to wear during the cooler seasons.

Even the scent of this lipstick is divine, let alone the amazing wearability (it literally stays on for hours), the colour is gorgeous and the velvety smooth application just screams luxury.

I also managed to get a quote (and a damned handy tip) from the lady herself, on what she had in mind when she designed her new Violet Mousse lipstick…

“I wanted to create a colour for my range that is an everyday basic, a colour that enhances beauty and suits all skin tones. Violet Mousse is a great natural shade with just a little depth so you won’t look washed out or sallow.” Karen Murrell, Creative Director, Karen Murrell Lipsticks.

“If your lipstick has broken, simply light a match under the broken part until the lipstick starts to melt a little. Then immediately put it back on the base, wind the lipstick back down into the canister and put it in the fridge, uncovered for about five minutes.” Karen Murrell Creative Director, Karen Murrell Lipsticks

I’m going to make an admission here – Britney Spears’ perfume, Circus Fantasy is actually one of my guilty-perfume-pleasures.  Whilst I can’t say I am the biggest fan of BritBrit’s music (that’s putting nicely), I actually really like her perfume!  Well, now she’s done it again (pun intended)…

Launching 10 June 2013 exclusively at Farmers, Britney Spears and Elizabeth Arden have announced the launch of Britney’s newest fragrance, island fantasy BRITNEY SPEARS™  and it looks to be another fragrance hit!

Embodying sun-kissed petals carried by an ocean breeze, island fantasy BRITNEY SPEARS™ is inspired by Britney’s ideal paradise – a remote island where she can relax and rejuvenate with her loved ones. The scent channels the warmth and playful spirit of the tropics, and brings an island escape to your everyday life. “Anytime I get a chance to get away, I tend to go to the tropics – the sun and ocean are always a great escape for me. I wanted to create a fragrance with a tropical feel, and that’s exactly what island fantasy is.” -Britney Spears The Fragrance island fantasy BRITNEY SPEARS™ is a potion of succulent fruits and colourful blossoms, evoking warm sunshine, ocean breezes and glittering beaches. A mouth-watering mix of citrus cocktail, mandarin, clementine, watery melon and red fruits intertwines with refreshing floral notes of jasmine, freesia and violet. A surprising finish of soft musky undertones and sugar cane makes the tantalising aroma carefree, flirty and feminine.

Benefit Cosmetics NZ Media Launch

Joyce Shu, Benefit Cosmetics, Benefit Cosmetics NZ, Justin Fullerton, beauty blog nz, style blog nz, makeup beauty guru, Angie Fredatovich, Nostalgia,

I can’t even remember when my infatuation with Benefit Cosmetics began, but I can assure you it was many years ago now when I made my first online order, all the time wishing that we had Benefit stores here in New Zealand.  Finally my wish has come true with the opening of their first store at the duty-free counter at Auckland International Airport, and their second store at Smith & Caughey’s on Queen St.

Specialising in brows, Benefit has been raising eyebrows since 1976 with their brow bars and we are lucky country number 41 to finally have these bene-browfessionals working to make kiwi woman look brow-mazing!

A little beauty-nerd trivia (yes I took notes): Benefit Cosmetics have 3000  beauty counters worldwide, 1000 brow bars and 50 boutiques.  Their infamous mascara, they’re real!, is the Number 1 selling mascara at Sephora in the US and UK, and Number 1 at Myers in Australia – that’s a lot of bene-love!

Last week Gurlinterrupted attended the greatly anticipated media launch of Benefit Cosmetics here in New Zealand.  Held at the uber-cool Nostalgia restaurant in Ponsonby, NZ beauty writers were treated to an evening of bubbles & beauty.  Benebabes – Jessica, Hannah and Gemma, along with Justin aka Dr Feelgood, demonstrated some of their best-selling products whilst sharing fun facts about how some of their products actually came to be e.g. did you know ‘benetint’, once known as Rose Tint, has a slightly raunchier background that just a cheek/lip tint?  Yeah lets just say that Playboy magazine would have found this product very handy to enhance certain assets ha ha, ahem, I digress… Here are some of the highlights from the amazing launch event followed by my day at the Smith & Caughey’s Benefit store opening (where I may have bought just a couple of my favourite products like the ‘fakeup’ hydrating crease-control concealer, high brow – the brow lifting pencil and a few creaseless eyeshadows.  Next on my list – ‘the total moisture facial cream’ – swoon).

A LITTLE SHOP…

www.alittleshop.co.nz, nz online, fashion, clothing, online store, style blog nz, fashion blog nz, beauty blog nz, angie fredatovich, gurlinterrupted, nz media editor, heels, dresses, a little shop, jewellery, accessories

When you spend as much time shopping online as I do, there’s nothing quite like the feeling you’ve made an exciting new fashion/beauty discovery and I feel like I’ve struck gold with ‘a little shop’.  I always get an initial fleeting thought of “ooh I want to keep this to myself – I mean I’ve totally discovered it afterall”, which I realise in itself is completely ridiculous because lets face it, it’s on the internet for goodness sake, but it’s also incredibly selfish; and thus I share with you a little shop.

This NZ based online store is a treasure trove of fashion and beauty items that I have fallen completely in love with.  Their on-trend clothing and accessories are totally affordable and they focus on new and emerging designers – which is a big tick for me! I also love that they don’t stock ‘chain-store’ quantities, they stock limited quantities with new stock constantly being updated on their site, which means you can still stand-out from the crowd in unique pieces.

They have some fab labels such as Blak Love, Emily and Fin, Holly Howe, Flash Jewellery and loads more.
