Last night media headed along to Auckland Museum for the launch of V&A Selling Dreams – 100 Years of Fashion Photography.  An exhibition encapsulating the glamour, mystery and drama of the world’s most striking fashion photographs.

I strongly encourage anyone that has a love for fashion and/or photography to make sure they head along to Auckland Museum to see to this awe-inspiring exhibition. Each photograph tells its own story and every story is just so intriguing.  I found myself standing in front of some of the photos for up to 15 minutes, just in awe of the moment captured on film. Whether the moment captured is inspiring, mysterious, breathtaking, beautiful, sad, funny – the one thing they all have in common is simply stunning photography.

I would have loved to of shared with you the images I saw in the gallery, even just one, alas we were under strict instructions that photographs in the gallery were not to be shared (ain’t nobody got time for copyright infringements), however what we could do was create our own photo shoot in the “Selling Dreams ECC Lounge” (found at the end of the gallery walk) so I’ve shared some of these with you, along with a few of the images exhibited within the ECC Lounge that we were allowed to snap…

It has been a really busy couple of weeks with a tonne of events, launches and showroom days, so to give you a snippet of what’s been happening and what I’ve been up to, I thought I’d share with you my “Out and About” post, to give you an insight into the last week and a half of my life (well, some of the fun stuff anyway)! So grab a coffee, tea or perhaps a cheeky vino, and check out what I’ve been up to…

COACH
Coach has arrived from New York to the heart of Central Auckland.

Coach, the leading American accessories brand, celebrated the opening of its new store on Auckland’s Queen Street with a glamorous cocktail event. The boutique space is the brand’s first location in Auckland.

I headed along to celebrate the opening of the Coach flagship retail store last week (with the lovely Julie Roulsten), which launched with all the splendor you would expect of a brand such as Coach. It’s fabulous to see such an iconic brand that produces fine leather goods and beautiful accessories adored globally, finally open here in NZ. All the handbags I’ve spent hours perusing online were on display in the most glamorous form, befitting of such a beautiful brand such as Coach.  Check out some of the moments captured from the opening night…

BENEFIT COSMETICS BLOGGER EVENT
Last month Benefit Cosmetics opened a new beauty counter in Smith & Caugheys Newmarket, and to celebrate, Benefit invited beauty bloggers along to check out their new digs, receive a complimentary brow service, and view various Christmas makeup looks using some of their new Holiday sets. Guests enjoyed bubbles, nibbles and of course, perused all the beautiful new holiday gift sets, whilst stocking up on some of their favourite iconic best-sellers such as the “they’re Real” mascara and “POREfessional” pro balm, to name just a couple.  I tell you what, nobody packages beauty products like Benefit and their holiday gift sets are all that you would expect and more!  Beautiful sets encased in reusable tins, eyeshadow quads and skin correcting sets housed in vintage-esque books, and their skincare range showcased in genie-like bottles and jars.  Head on in to their beauty counter in Smith & Caugheys, Newmarket and check out their recently launched beauty destination – in the meantime, here are some snaps from the evening…

LILY & LOUIS – Autumn/Winter Media Preview Day
Showcasing their Autumn and Winter collections, Lily & Louis held their seasonal Media Open Day in typical fabulous L & L style – within the elegant and beautiful surroundings of their showroom, with bubbles, cocktails and delicious finger-food a-plenty. Fashion media got a glimpse of the upcoming ranges due to be released when the cooler weather arrives in 2014.  Whilst the showroom houses many of my favourite designers, I have to say Andrea Moore’s Winter ’14 collection was quite the standout; and with the launch of Andrea’s “I AM” range – simply the icing on the cake!  There is a piece in the “I AM” range  (ok there were several, but this one particular piece…) that is so damned amazing, it’s at the top of my ‘winter must-haves’ list.

Some of my favourite pieces & images from the day…

GINNY BLACKMORE – NZ parties with the world and (BELVEDERE)RED to launch World AIDS Day
NZ partied with Ginny Blackmore and Belvedere (RED) on Saturday night, joining other countries around the world for the first time to celebrate World AIDS Day. Ginny played to a full house at Auckland nightspot 1885 and the crowd joined her (I’m pretty sure it was everyone, not just me) as she belted out her double platinum single ‘Bones’.

Belvedere (RED) supports the (RED) Global Fund, launched by U2’s Bono and is the world’s leading financier of programs to fight HIV/AIDS in Africa.  December is World AIDS Awareness month and marks a time to celebrate how far the fight to end AIDS has come and raise awareness of the opportunity to deliver the world’s first AIDS-free Generation in over 30 years.

A fabulous night and an even more fabulous cause!!

BEAT PR – Winter 2014 Media Preview Day
Plenty to see at Beat PR last week when they held their Winter 2014 Media Showroom Day.  Showcasing many of the brands that I regularly feature on Gurlinterrupted, it’s always great to see what’s hitting stores now, and what’s coming up for the next season.  As one would expect from boohoo.com there’s a plethora of amazing pieces online now, and soon to be released.  Plenty of glitz and glam with their dazzling sequin range and the floaty boho and aztec print pieces are beyond amaze (not to mention totally affordable!). My FAVOURITE hair care range even makes an appearance (I swear Evo Calming Shampoo and Calming Conditioner will literally make your hair look and feel like silk!!  Like angel silk! Silky angel tears!! Ok, I have no idea what angel silk or tears feel like, but I’m pretty sure they feel like the result of using these Evo gems!).  Saben, Icebreaker, NOM*D, just to name a few, will have you dreaming of winter (the NOM*D winter range is phenomenal!!) and kikki.K has produced a delightful pastel palette of stationery and a superb leather goods range that will have your schedule and desk sorted in no time (I should probably look into this a bit more, with the amount of events on at the moment I don’t know whether I’m coming or going ha ha). Here are some of my favourite things spotted in the Beat PR showroom (I feel like I should state here – obviously I wasn’t a favourite ‘thing’ that I spotted, but I just love this fun pic)…

NAVEYA & SLOANE – The New Showroom Launch
Last week media were invited to the opening of Naveya & Sloane’s new showroom. Located on the top floor of the uber-cool Imperial complex (44 Queen St) guests arrived to a beautifully lit showroom with all the finest of Naveya & Sloane’s jewellery on display.  Guests mingled, the champagne flowed and the showroom was declared officially open!  Christmas is just around the corner too – so the timing couldn’t be better.  A girl can dream right?! (Just so you know, no – I’m not that girl dreaming of weddings and diamond rings – but I can damn sure appreciate a beautiful piece of  hand-made jewellery from Naveya & Sloane. Plus, diamonds are a girls best friend!)…

PUBLIC LIBRARY MEDIA DAY
Media headed to Grey Lynn to check out the latest winter collections from Public Library’s fabulous range of brands.  Guests mingled with the PL Ladies (Emma, Maggie and Sophie) enjoyed a few cheeky wines and took in all that winter has in store for us in Winter 2014. (Not a bad way to spend a Friday afternoon right?).

Vanishing Elephant has so many beautiful shoes heading our way (hello rose gold loafers!!) and it was great to see that unrealfur has an abundance of fabulous cruelty-free coats, jackets and vests to keep us all snug when the weather gets cooler.  Standout of the day the “In Vogue We Trust” t-shirt and Vanishing Elephant Rose Gold Loafers, LOVE!  Check out a few of my top picks from the day.

Miss Clawdy supports the Auckland City Mission for Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving takes place on Thursday 28 November and popular eatery Miss Clawdy, founded by the Wiley Boys, is celebrating by supporting the Auckland City Mission.

To give thanks to all their loyal supporters and give back to the Auckland community, Miss Clawdy will be inviting diners to bring in a canned good in exchange for a slice of their Thanksgivin’ pumpkin pie. All canned goods collected at the end of the evening will be donated to Auckland City Mission.

It’s so heartwarming to see a business giving back to the community and Miss Clawdy’s is doing just that – but it’s not going to happen without you! So head along, take a few canned goods, enjoy a fabulous southern style dining experience, all whilst knowing you too are supporting the Auckland City Mission.

Food and drink enthusiasts will not only be invited to practice the art of giving thanks but can enjoy a special Thanksgiving menu available only on Thursday 28 November. The menu includes a Thanksgiving po’ boy, made with pulled turkey, green apple, cabbage slaw and mustard topped with homemade cranberry that will entice diners with a taste of Thanksgiving southern magic.

To top it all off, diners can toast the day with a glass of ‘The Slow Co’. A Thanksgiving cocktail of spiced Orange and Southern Comfort with cranberry juice and ginger beer.

‘Thanksgivin’ at Miss Clawdy’ will take place on Thursday 28 November from 11.30am till late. For more information visit www.missclawdy.co.nz.

Belvedere brings Bono’s RED event to New Zealand for World Aids Day

Belvedere and RED, founded by U2’s Bono, have teamed up to launch ‘Red Night Out’ for the first time in New Zealand. This Saturday (30th November), in support of the global celebration of World Aids Day on (1 December), Ginny Blackmore has been picked as the New Zealand artist to perform at this one-off, free for public event on 30 November in 1885, Britomart.

The first 200 guests will be treated to a velvety Belvedere RED cocktail to get the party started, followed by DJ Vincent Hanna, to kick-start the music for the evening. Only condition for entry is to wear red.

RED was founded in 2006 by Bono and Bobby Shriver to engage businesses and consumers in the global fight against AIDS. Big names like Usher, Mary J Blige and now New Zealand’s own platinum selling hit star, Ginny Blackmore will be part of Belvedere’s bold commitment to create an AIDS-free generation in 2015.

Dedicated to make a significant contribution to the Global Fund, created to fight HIV/AIDS in Africa, the event also marks the launch of Belvedere RED Special Edition. 50% of profits from Belvedere RED Special Edition bottles sold in New Zealand will contribute to helping this global epidemic.

Don’t forget to wear red for free entry into 1885, Britomart!

Natural beauty lovers rejoice – Vanilla Bloom Natural Beauty Boutique has a fabulous new online store

If you’re searching for natural and holistic beauty offerings this festive season then Vanilla Bloom is the perfect destination. This newly launched website focuses entirely on natural and organic beauty.

Vanilla Bloom Natural Beauty Boutique is the brain child of Jo Davenport, who has more than ten years’ experience in the health & beauty industry.  “There’s definitely an increasing appetite for a greener, more holistic approach to life.  Globally, the market for natural and organic personal care products is expected to grow annually by almost ten percent for the next five years”.

Navigating the ingredient labels on beauty products can be complex and overwhelming.  Vanilla Bloom has made this easier for natural beauty lovers by checking products for them.  All natural & organic beauty products are thoroughly researched and every ingredient checked.  In order to be ranged, products must be free from animal testing, be manufactured by companies committed to a greener approach to beauty and meet the Vanilla Bloom Ingredients Policy of being free from the most common and potentially ‘dirty’ synthetic ingredients.

How fabulous is that!  All the hard work has been taken out of shopping for beautiful natural & organic beauty products (plus they stock some of our beauty faves such as BITE Beauty and butter LONDON).

Ok so this one isn’t an event or a pop-up store, nor is it a newly launched website, however – what it is, is a damned good PR campaign! It’s not often that a press release or a PR campaign intrigues and delights me, but if it really catches my eye and makes me look at something twice, that I normally probably wouldn’t look at, at all – I think it’s worth sharing, because it’s just damn clever!

So a couple of days ago I received this really dodgy looking parcel – I’m talking a package that was sealed with masking tape, had a bow on it – taped flat, ripped paper, the works! (admittedly the wrapping paper was green so that’s always a win in my books, even if it does look like its been run over by a truck – twice!). Of everything that arrived that day, the badly wrapped parcel was the first thing I reached for because it was just so strange. I was even more intrigued when I found it contained a really beautiful Annabel Langbein cookbook!  Who the heck would send such a beautiful book, wrapped so badly?  Turns out the incredibly bad gift wrapping was all part of the campaign and inside the book was a note explaining what it was all about…

Paper Plus is launching a fun, tongue-in-cheek, Christmas campaign which involves ‘turning the tide’ on bad gift wrapping this Christmas.

In order to identify those Kiwis most in need, and to separate them from the wrapping masters, Paper Plus has created an online quiz called ‘Wrap it like this’, which will categorise individuals into one of six wrappers: The Crap Wrapper, The Try-hard Wrapper, The Shortcut Wrapper, The Recycled Wrapper, The Craft-Master Wrapper and The Couture Wrapper.

Once Kiwis have determined what sort of wrapper they are (having a bit of a laugh along the way), they are then directed to an online video tutorial that caters to their level of ability, with the aim of up-skilling even the most disadvantaged or misguided wrapper.

Well – quite simply I think this is gold!  A bit of a fun, a cool campaign and some pro wrapping tips from Paper Plus.

Head over to: www.paperplus.co.nz/wrapitquiz and get your ‘wrapping profile results’.

The BOTANICALS range includes the Metro Jar, the Mini Metro and the Reed Diffuser (the diffusers are great for creating an inviting and beautiful scent to come home to).

What hasn’t changed with the introduction of this new range, is that every scent is still absolutely stunning! (I’ve not actually discovered an ECOYA candle I don’t like). I’ve been burning the Midnight Orchid candle and it’s insanely good!

BLOGCADEMY – The Blogger’s Oracle…

Blogcademy, is it worth going to blogcademy, gala darling, rock n roll bride, nubby twiglet, blogcademy nz, my experience at blogcademy, beauty blog nz, fashion blog nz, style blog nz, beauty media nz, fashion media nz, angie fredatovich, gurlinterrupted, fashion, beauty

So its been a week since I attended Blogcademy, and my intention was to write about my experience straight away, however it’s literally taken an entire week for everything to sink in, put into action (behind the scenes) some of the super-important things that they taught us, and to map out the best way to give you an insight into what you can expect, should you be planning on attending the next Blogcademy global tour.

10807497644_fd4ff55afd_b

For those of you who aren’t familiar with Blogcademy – here’s what it is…
Blogcademy is a two-day workshop for bloggers, hosted by three of the biggest names in the blogging world – Gala Darling (Gala Darling), Kat Williams (Rock n Roll Bride) and Shauna Haider (Nubby Twiglet), otherwise known as the Blogcademy Headmistresses.   Now don’t go thinking ‘arghhh another boring conference’, it is quite the opposite!  These three ladies are so inspirational, so damned talented, and are an abundance of knowledge, and although they are all about the sparkles, fun, and glittery ears – they are also very serious about sharing their knowledge with up & coming bloggers, and teaching them everything they need to know to really take their blogs to the next level.

Blogcademy, is it worth going to blogcademy, gala darling, rock n roll bride, nubby twiglet, blogcademy nz, my experience at blogcademy, beauty blog nz, fashion blog nz, style blog nz, beauty media nz, fashion media nz, angie fredatovich, gurlinterrupted, fashion, beauty

So, what I thought I would do is share with you all my favourite parts of Blogcademy, what you can expect to get out of it if you attend, as well as some tips on what you can do to ready yourself (and your blog) prior to attending.

Blogcademy, is it worth going to blogcademy, gala darling, rock n roll bride, nubby twiglet, blogcademy nz, my experience at blogcademy, beauty blog nz, fashion blog nz, style blog nz, beauty media nz, fashion media nz, angie fredatovich, gurlinterrupted, fashion, beauty

New friends, networking, photo-booths and sparkly ears…
The best, and most fun part of Blogcademy was making amazing new friends, networking with fellow bloggers (with varying careers and blog topics, which was a breath of fresh air), and this was probably all thanks to the sparkly ears that were in our goodie bags.  The sparkly ears, which admittedly at first I thought ‘what the heck’, actually turned out to be a brilliant ice-breaker, reminding us not to take ourselves too seriously.  They also had a photo-booth in the reception area of the venue, of which everyone could use to their heart’s content and again, this was just so much fun and such a great way to get everyone chatting and laughing – not to mention allowing us to capture very cool memories!

What do they teach you at Blogcademy…
Prior to attending Blogcademy I asked a few people in an open forum, whether they thought it was worth attending Blogcademy.  Was it worth the cost?  Had they heard what we would get out of attending?  If they could afford to go, would they?  And it’s kinda funny – most of the comments were actually a little disconcerting. It’s not that they were outright negative, just more off-putting, without having actually experienced it themselves (I did ask the questions, so it was just their opinions).  I also read numerous comments stating ‘you can find everything you want to know about blogging/monetizing by simply googling it, or you can just ask fellow bloggers, as some have been doing this for ages’.  The truth is, I’ve done a tonne of research on all these things (all the not-so-basic blogging questions), and have been blogging for years myself, and I’ve never found the information I needed (not the super-important stuff anyway) from Google or from just asking around. As for asking fellow bloggers – the truth is most bloggers are happy to ask a million questions, re brand contacts, wanting advertising info, website tips, etc – but most aren’t willing to share their information with you, especially when it comes to stats, what’s considered ‘good numbers’, what they should do to monetize, etc. And that’s fair enough, I mean it is showing your cards and not everyone wants to do this – but the general rule of thumb is, if you are willing to ask, you should be willing to share.  At blogcademy – all your questions are answered, and nothing is taboo – this for me was golden!! I guess what I’m saying here is – if you are thinking about attending Blogcademy and are told that you can just get that info anywhere – my personal opinion is that you can’t just get the information anywhere, and the wisdom I gained, made Blogcademy totally worth attending!

What I learnt at Blogcademy is everything I’ve every wanted to know, have researched but couldn’t find, along with how to reach my ultimate goal of a full-time blogging career, whilst monetizing my blog (and trust me, it’s not the way most people think you monetize).  I got to ask all the questions I’ve ever wanted to ask, and received all the answers! Gala, Kat and Shauna are completely transparent with their stats, how they got to where they are now, how to monetize, but more importantly – they show you how important it is to stay true to yourself, how to take a step back and see what works and what doesn’t, how being yourself is your biggest asset and point of difference, and to really ensure you are writing about what YOU want to write about and what your readers would be interested in reading, rather than falling into the ‘old traps for new players’ (I’m proud to say I no longer fall into these traps – hey we’ve all been there!).  This is honestly just scratching the surface – it’s none of the actual amazing “how to” facts, but hopefully it gives you an indication of what you can expect to get out of Blogcademy. They go into so much more – business, design, branding & brand architecture, marketing, advertising, photography. The list just goes on and on.

The best part of all!!
I think the ultimate high for me was getting to spend one-on-one time with one of the headmistresses (for nearly an hour) having my blog analysed.  I consider myself incredibly lucky to have Shauna (her business and background is marketing, graphic design and she’s basically a website/blogging guru!) go through every facet of my blog and give me feedback, recommendations and advice, as well as the ‘why this is working’ and ‘why this isn’t working’ answers that I needed. Shauna also talked me through the best layout (for me), reader insights, and tips and tricks for my ‘site sponsors’, plus some fabulous tips on my social media links, along with general blog site suggestions I’d never have thought of.  I even got to show her my new website (which is currently being built) so she could give me some final tips before it launches! WINNING!!

What I walked away with (other than amazing new friends)

  • So much information that I still have literally 150 slides to type up
  • A comprehensive guide to make a living online
  • Social media ‘know hows’ that blew my socks off
  • A workbook crammed with all Gala, Kat and Shauna’s blogging secrets, tips and tricks
  • Unlimited access to a private Blogcademy forum, of which all fellow Blogcadette’s have access to so that we can ask questions, share info and even Kat, Gala and Shauna are regularly online to respond to questions (and they do! I just asked a question yesterday and Gala was straight back with the answer)
  • A list of contacts & companies they’ve worked with, that we can utilise to monetize our blogs
  • Amazing e-books, online tutorials, media kits, bidding forms and invoice templates
  • A list of sites and contacts that are now part of my new ‘blogging bible’

I walked away feeling so inspired, with a whole new sense of direction, and I have a HEAP of new plans that I’m slowly rolling out (both behind the scenes and some that you will all start to see very soon).

Tips for Blogcademy

  • I recommend you bring a camera (not just for photo ops) but to take in all the info.  I used my camera to capture every single slide in the headmistresses presentations.  This allowed me to take in everything they said as they talked through each point, whilst doing very little writing
  • They do refer to WordPress & self hosted sites most of the time, so if you are thinking of making the move ‘platform-wise’, do it BEFORE Blogcademy.
  • Bring your business cards – the networking is beyond amazing
  • Keep a notepad beside your bed in the weeks leading up to Blogcademy so that you can write down every question as it comes to you.  This way you won’t walk away thinking ‘arghhh I forgot to ask XYZ’.  Bear in mind, the online site/forum created for Blogcadettes will be available ongoing, so you can still ask questions after Blogcademy, but there’s nothing like asking questions when you have a captured audience.

Well, that’s probably about it from me – but if you do have any questions, please ask away by commenting below (I obviously can’t share the actual knowledge they gave us during the workshop, as we were sworn to secrecy) but any general Blogcademy Q’s – ask away!

I’ll leave you with a few words of wisdom from Blogcademy (as well as a couple more fun photos)…

SUCCESS IS – liking yourself, liking what you do and liking how you do it!

BE YOURSELF – everyone else is already taken!

INSIST ON YOURSELF – never imitate!

“IT” by Alexa Chung…

Alexa Chung, It, Alexa Chung Book It, Book review, best reads, alexa Chungs new book it, beauty blog nz, fashion blog nz, style blog nz, beauty media nz, fashion media nz, angie fredatovich, gurlinterrupted, fashion, beauty

I finally got around to reading my copy of “IT” by Alexa Chung.  Ok, the word “reading” is probably a stretch as it’s hardly an in-depth novel, however I thought it was worth reviewing for those of you that may not have yet perused Miss Chung’s recent release…

I know they say ‘never judge a book by its cover’ (I do by the way) I have to say I absolutely loved the cover and the title. Not unlike the simplicity of the title, the faded pink cover and minimalistic look was actually quite alluring and would make for a beautiful coffee table book.

It oozes that “Alexa Chung effortlessly cool” vibe, and is clearly imagery focused with all the “I’m so hipster with my unedited, poorly lit, gritty, raw snaps”, however at the same time it wreaks of the publishing house and a marketing team having pulled the whole thing together with Alexa signing her name to the completed tale.

Alexa states that her book is a stream of consciousness and it takes us from her childhood to the present, giving us some insight into her style, friends, music and beauty, however I think a more accurate descriptor would be a coffee-table book jam-packed with random doodles and photos of god-only-knows-who (there are no photo descriptors or names attached to the images), nor is there flow or continuity. However I shouldn’t of expected much more than doodles and photos as I’ve since read that she told Vogue “I wrote it because I was bored and wanted to create something alongside hosting television shows”.

I know it’s sounding more and more like I didn’t like the book and that I’m solely criticising it, but in actual fact, it just left me a little unsure as to what the hell I’d just read, yet at the same time, I did find it somewhat charming and funny. I would have liked to see more glimpses of the real Alexa. For example she talks about heartbreak and admits that she once googled ‘how long does heartbreak last’, and for just a split second you start to see her as a real girl, a girl like any other – but then you turn the page and there’s a photo of “F___ you’ written in the sand, followed by an obnoxious selfie.  Again – actually kind of funny.

Upon reaching the last page of the book I found myself in the same predicament I’m in now – I didn’t love it, but I definitely didn’t hate it either, and I’m not sure what I expected, but my brain is still trying to make sense of it all.  What is your purpose “IT”?

In summary – don’t expect ‘groundbreaking’ and you wont be disappointed.  I will probably peruse it again, and will definitely leave it out as a coffee-table book and interesting conversation starter!

I’ll leave you with a few insightful things I’ve learnt from Alexa…

–  Nudity is necessity at a festival

–  Karl Lagerfeld is very, very funny!

–  How to ‘look like a groupie’ (yay, everything I’ve never wanted)

–  A guide to getting dressed – “you have to look in the mirror” (thank goodness for Alexa [see: sarcasm] all these years I’ve been getting dressed and looking in the mirror, oh wait..)

Pinterest is one of the fastest growing social networks online and currently is the third largest network behind Facebook and Twitter. For the first time in New Zealand, this virtual pinboard- style, photo-sharing site will become a virtual reality, allowing kiwis to discover, create and share everything they could want for the summer holidays on image boards, at The Base’s ‘My Real Life Pinterest’ interactive event.

“We are excited to launch My Real Life Pinterest for the first time in New Zealand, right here at The Base and engage with our public in a way that hasn’t been done before,” says Angela Young, marketing manager at The Base.

To truly celebrate the festive season, shoppers will be invited to pin down their summer Christmas wish list, make their very own larger-than-life pinboard inside the shopping complex and every Pinterest board created will give each shopper the chance to take home what they have pinned.

This one-off event is open to all shoppers and fashion enthusiasts around the country, with the challenge to pin down their summer holiday’s wish list in just 5 minutes.

Public can choose to pin the latest summer fashion, technology, homewear and other ‘must-haves’ from a large range of retailers current season collections.

‘My Real Life Pinterest’ will be a hybrid of real-time and online social media interaction, including instant photo sharing of the Pinterest boards created by New Zealand public.

‘My Real Life Pinterest’ will launch on Friday 15 November from 10 – 6pm and Saturday 16 November from 10 – 6pm. More information on New Zealand’s first real life Pinterest created at The Base, will be available soon on www.pinterest.com/thebaseshopping, www.the-base.co.nz and http://www.te-awa.co.nz.

The Base:
The Base Shopping Centre located in Te Rapa, on the northern entry to Hamilton City, is the flagship development for Tainui Group Holding’s and is New Zealand’s largest and most innovative retail and leisure day-out destination. As New Zealand’s only hybrid shopping complex, this award-winning centre is comprised of 190 stores, 3000 free carparks, 34 food outlets and 82,000 square metres of net lettable area.

My Halloween Haul & The Best Place To Shop For All Hallows’ Eve…

Halloween, halloween nz, halloween new zealand, Halloween decorations, Halloween Haul, All Hallows Eve, Halloween Fancy Dress, Spooky, halloween ideas, halloween dress up nz, beauty blog nz, fashion blog nz, style blog nz, beauty media nz, fashion media nz, angie fredatovich, gurlinterrupted, fashion, beauty,

Halloween may not be as big here as it is in America, but I’m hoping, as it grows more and more popular, that eventually we will get into Halloween here in New Zealand as much as they do overseas.  Me personally, I love an excuse to theme the house, dress up and fully immerse myself in a tradition or holiday occasion (I’ll admit there’s no occasion as big as Christmas, but still, an excuse to have a bit of light-hearted fun, is as good a reason as any right?!).

So I went shopping today to pick up few things to get into the spirit (excuse the pun) of Halloween.  Just a couple of items to put around the house to get ready for when the kids come a callin.  Thankfully we do have kids in our neighbourhood that go “trick or treating”, so we like to fill the house with lots of treats and spooky Halloween decorations – admittedly, this is not great when you have to get up in the middle of the night and you bump into a scary mask or see eerie flickering lights that you forgot you had put up.

I hit the Halloween jackpot with the very first store I visited, which I kinda thought I would as this place is known for going all out on festive occasions, but I was so surprised at how cheap everything was and the range was absolutely amazing!  I went to www.marthasbackyard.co.nz in Mt Wellington, which, if you haven’t already visited, you must!  They are amazing!  Everything you have ever seen on any american movie is in this store!  I even tracked down a coveted EOS Lip Balm that I’d been wanting to buy for ages. And don’t even get me started on Christmas decorations (also, if you ever need an abundance of ‘frat party red cups’, they’ve got those too).  Anyway, I digress, onto the haul and what else they had in-store…

The things I bought:

  • Inflatable Black Cat and Pumpkin.  These are so adorbs and they were only $3.50 each.  They’re actually quite big, so a total bargain at that price.
  • Spooky Ghost Transfer.  Again, this was about $3. It’s pretty long and it glows in the dark!  It will definitely be going on the hallway mirror.
  • Cute Lil Black Socks with sparkly bones.  $3.50. Just fun to wear in the run up to Halloween.
  • Owl Kitchen Towel.  OMG this was too cute not to get.  I think it was around the $4 mark. It had an owl on it so basically I just had to have it.
  • Fabric Fall Leaves.  $3  These look so cool as table decorations for a Halloween dinner and then just sprinkled along counter tops.  Another must have!
  • Trick or Treat Bags. $1.50  These are for ‘trick or treating’ and as we don’t have kids, and definitely wont be trick or treat’n, I’ll just use them to store candy.
  • Candy Corn. $4  One of my fave lollies and they look cute as decoration in a glass bowl.
  • Halloween Bottle Stickers. $3.50(ish) OK so this is my favourite of all the things I bought.  With stickers that wrap around a wine bottle (or any bottle) stating things like “Red Blood, “Spider Venom” and “Liquid Phantom” I just had to have these to dress up the wine bottles for a dinner party.

Here’s a few snaps of all the other things that they had in store.  I was really tempted to get some of the pumpkin candles, however my guy was with me and managed to make me see sense in that we already have enough Halloween candles to sink a battle ship, so I refrained (although he didn’t see me sneak some cute orange serviettes (featuring black cats) into the basket – WINNING! Oh, and I may have got this witches hat too (hey if the hat fits right ha ha).
