The Hunger Games “Catching Fire” Trailer…

I don’t know what it is about The Hunger Games – but it’s one of the few ‘book to movie’ series that I’m really quite enamoured with. Maybe it’s the fabulous costumes, maybe it’s the exquisite makeup, or perhaps it’s just an incredibly well scripted and cast movie!

Getting excited about catching fire – really?

Sorry, I digress, back to the movie! The first Hunger Games movie was brilliant and admittedly I too am excited for the next installment due to hit cinemas November 2013.

Gimme Shelter – Meadowlark for SPCA…

Yet another reason to love Meadowlark (not that we needed one) – Meadowlark is once again showing their support for SPCA Auckland and has developed a new custom merchandise design “Gimme Shelter”.

We know there are loads of dog fans, so we thought we’d make them a cool and playful print. We hope this appeals to all dog-lovers no matter what their favourite breed is,” says Claire Hammon, co-director of Meadowlark.

The “Gimme Shelter” designs are available to buy from the SPCA Auckland online store from Friday October 11, 2013 – with the initial release consisting of women’s t-shirts in black (XS – XL), tote bags in black and mugs in white all printed with this witty new image.

Tamara Mellon is currently the talk of the town with her recently published book entitled IN MY SHOES (all this talks gotta be good for book sales right!?)

Ms Mellon shares her larger than life story in her memoirs – In My Shoes, and has told how her business partner, Jimmy Choo did not design a single shoe for the multi-million dollar empire named after him.

Ms Mellon, who worked at British Vogue for five years after dropping out of school, said: ‘The original idea was for Jimmy to design the collection and I would run the operations of the business”. The 46-year-old also revealed she never received a single sketch from him during the years they worked together – not one! She went on to say “it soon became very clear that Jimmy’s skill was in making shoes. He’s a cobbler.”

Being the shoe-a-holic that I am, although saddened to hear that Jimmy Choo didn’t design a single shoe, I am very much looking forward to reading Tamara’s book – In My Shoes, as the 46-year-old as led a very colourful and interesting life herself, Jimmy Choo shoes aside!

Fair to say that I am looking at my (one and only) pair of Jimmy Choo’s in a whole new light!

If there is just one candle that you buy this Christmas, and if you’re as excited about Christmas as I am – you need this candle!!

Katy Perry Launches ‘Killer Queen’…

Pop star Katy Perry launches her third fragrance Killer Queen (named after the song written by Freddie Mercury) and apparently it’s said to be nothing like it’s predecessors, and better than all others on the market (hard to believe a scent could rival Taylor Swifts latest perfume, however…)

Katy states: “Killer Queen has been in my vocabulary since I was 15, because of the song ‘Killer Queen’ by Queen. Freddie Mercury painted the lyrics of this woman who I wanted to be. She seemed very powerful, and she captivated a room when she walked in. I named my company Killer Queen after those lyrics. I feel like, after all this time, it was appropriate to use that name in association with something I did. I feel like I’m falling, finally, into that woman Freddie painted.”

Killer Queen is said to be playful, sophisticated, powerful, edgy and delicious. It reflects the rebellious spirit of the singer. Its creation is signed by Laurent Le Guernec of IFF. Top notes include wild berries, dark plum and bergamot accords. The main note of the heart is velvety red flower (Celosia), but there are also Sambac jasmine and rainbow plumeria. The base contains cashmere, patchouli and liquid praline.

It’s not often you’ll read about my need to get back into a fitness regime, and I promise you will NEVER read about some ridiculous fad diet I’m on – because I don’t do those, EVER! However, spring is here and summer is just around the corner, which for me means time to get motivated, get back into a fitness regime and get myself beach ready, not to mention just wanting to feel better in general by getting fit and healthy, which gawd knows I need after a long, cold & somewhat lazy winter.

However, in my typical ‘I’m not motivated without a super-cute outfit’ style (don’t judge – everyone has their own motivators) I’d put my training regime on hold until now… I’ve finally been inspired by my latest outfit to get me back into yoga and back into jogging 3 times a week. I’ve had my eye on some pieces from the new Canterbury of New Zealand Spring Summer Range and eventually narrowed my selection down to two pieces that work across both yoga and running (I say running – in reality its a slow-paced jog) ‘The Rambler Capri’ and ‘Airborne Singlet’. They are soooo damned comfortable and perfect for my fitness regime, that I thought I’d share with you my picks from Canterbury’s new range, and maybe if you’ve been looking for a little inspiration to get you off the couch and back into a fitness regime, my new sporty outfit will be just the motivator!

An Evening With G.H.MUMM – The Number One Champagne House In France….

Last night I attended the most fabulous dinner with G.H.Mumm Champagne. Held at the Hanene Pavilion in Kohimarama, media were treated to an informative, yet relaxing & entertaining evening with Didier Mariotti, Cellar Master – G.H.Mumm.

Throughout the evening media were able to experience, first hand, the ‘Art of Sabrage’ – a popular part of the traditional serving of Champagne since the days of Napoleon (using either a sword or the stem of a wine glass to open the Champagne at the neck of the bottle, the neck removed in one swift slice), and as the four courses were served, Didier explained to guests the Champagne & food pairing.

Matched to the canapes on arrival, guests enjoyed a glass (or two) of G.H.Mumm Cordon Rouge. With the Tuna Sashimi – G.H.Mumm Blanc de Blancs. Butter Poached Crayfish with G.H.Mumm Millesime 2004. Sous Vide Poussin with G.H.Mumm Cuvee R’Lalou 1999, and dessert – which was a spectacular Peach Mousse, was served with G.H.Mumm Brut Rose. Each and every glass of champagne was absolutely beautiful, but I have to say the standout for me was the Cuvee R’Lalou.

In summary – the perfect evening, with Champagne flowing, held at the most exquisite venue! Another seamless event executed by Pernod Ricard, showcasing the most sought after in Champagne – G.H.Mumm.

Greeted by models adorning the most fabulous WOW garments, media were escorted to the 53rd floor of the sky tower, where guests mingled with the Brancott Estate team and wine enthusiasts alike. After taking in the breathtaking surroundings and stunning views, we took our seats and began our four course food & wine journey.

Peter Gordon himself, along with Brancott Estate’s Chief Winemaker – Patrick Materman, introduced each course as it arrived at our table, each of which was perfectly matched to a Brancott Estate wine. I have to say that Brancott’s Pinot Gris, is without doubt, THE best Pinot Gris I have ever tasted. If you’re a fan of Pinot Gris – I highly recommend this drop! Admittedly, even though Pinot Gris is my varietal of choice, I will be purchasing all four of the Limited Edition series solely based on the stunning WOW garments that adorn each bottle. A thoroughly enjoyable afternoon of mouth-watering food and incredible wine!
