A Night To Remember: The Nespresso Umilk Launch Event…

If you follow me on Twitter and Instagram you will no doubt have seen a few snippets from the fabulous event I attended last night!  I headed along to the Launch Party for Nespresso’s new machine – Umilk.

I attend A LOT of events, more often than not – several in one day and I often think to myself, my goodness it’s gotta be hard for these PR’s to come up with something unique each time, knowing that media are regularly attending events and they need to ensure THEIR launch is the one we remember. Well I have to say this launch event was an absolute STAND OUT.  It would be one of the most seamless & creative launch events I’ve attended in quite some time. This Nespresso event was definitely different – they had such a great crowd there, some new faces, exciting things to see and do and you actually WANTED to know more about what it was they were launching, because it was so damned intriguing!

So what was it all about you ask!  Well, the new ‘Umilk’ is the latest innovation from Nespresso which offers the ultimate convenience in creating your favourite coffee and milk recipes on one platform.  In a nutshell – Nespresso now offers their loyal fans (yup I’m one of them) a machine that creates smooth, finely textured milk froth to enjoy with their chosen Nespresso drink of choice. GREAT – now I’m going to be coveting this Nespresso Umilk machine every time I look at my old Nespresso machine! #NespressoGirlProblems

Held at Flying Fish on Ponsonby Road, the theme and dress-code of the evening, to match the new Nespresso Umilk machine, was black and white. I like to think perhaps also a nod to the monochrome fashion trend? (that might just be that ‘fashion writer’ in me).  Everyone arrived suitably dressed, a sea of guests looking all ‘before colour TV’. Upon arrival, the Nespresso team invited me to have a 3D mini sculpture created – a 2 minute process where I hopped onto a rotating 360 degree, 3D scanning process, of which the end result was a ‘mini mi’ 3D figurine! I mean seriously, how fabulous is that to have a replica figurine made as a memento of the evening?!  (the mini me is featured below). They had delightful treats from Milse and obviously the BEST coffee was available all night, made to order from several manned NESPRESSO machines dotted throughout the venue.  Followed by Nespresso cocktails served in gorgeous little milk bottles (of which we also received upon leaving, personalised with our names).  I would say Nespresso will be VERY happy with their PR crew, as they really did pull off ‘the perfect event’.  Check out some of our snaps from the event…

The location was kept secret from the public and it was strictly invite only (which made the build-up even more enticing to the media crew that eagerly awaited Jackie’s performance)!  What a fabulous evening!

Hosted by Sony Music NZ, Jackie Thomas celebrated the launch of her new album and sang to a star-studded, packed room at the Roxy, and I can tell you first hand, it was well worth the wait!  Girl can sing!!   Thanks to Sony for a kick-ass party, and of course Megan of threadnz.com – thanks for an awesome and fun evening!!

RODARTE Fashion Film starring Elijah Wood, fashion, style, beauty, elijah wood, fashion media nz, beauty media nz, beauty blog nz, style blog nz, fashion blog nz, angie fredatovich

Hot off the press from fashionista.com…

Fulfilling their role as the unconventional and slightly nerdy fashion design duo, Kate and Laura Mulleavy of Rodarte went a sci-fi/fantasy route for their latest fashion film. The designers are no stranger to the fashion film medium and their proximity to Hollywood probably doesn’t hurt when it comes to making these films or casting movie stars. Remember when Elle Fanning did one? For their latest project, which was shot in L.A. by Todd Cole, they went with someone a little older and masculine – Elijah Wood, a friend of the sisters (he once told Tavi they all watch horror films together).

So far, only the trailer has been released via Style.com and it’s perfectly creepy. There are unicorns, elves, fairies light saber-looking things. Oh and models–Sidney Williams and Guinevere Van Seenus–to keep things fashion-y. The full 12-minute film debuts this week on The Creators Project. Check out the Trailer .

MOVIE REVIEW: THE BLING RING – Now Showing At The NZ International Film Festival..

The Bling Ring, New Zealand International Film Festival, nz film festival, movie review, film review, paris hilton, lindsay Lohan, fashion, fashion media NZ, beauty media nz, fashion blog nz, style blog nz, beauty blog nz, angie fredatovich, gurlinterrupted, NZIFF, NZFF

Last week I headed along to the New Zealand International Film Festival, more specifically – to see The Bling Ring.  This is the latest offering from one of my favourite filmmakers, Sofia Coppola.

Inspired by actual events, Coppola created the screenplay after reading a Vanity Fair article on the “Hollywood Hills Burglar Bunch” a group of Los Angeles high school kids who famously broke into and robbed the houses of some of Hollywood’s most notable young celebs – Megan Fox, Paris Hilton, Audrina Patridge, Rachel Bilson, Lindsay Lohan and Orlando Bloom.

Miss Coppola manages to tie in today’s obsession with social media beautifully, telling the story of how these fame-obsessed Gen-Z teenagers use the internet to track celebrities’ whereabouts in order to break into their homes and treat each brazen burglary as their own free-for-all shopping excursion.

The Bling Ring, New Zealand International Film Festival, nz film festival, movie review, film review, paris hilton, lindsay Lohan, fashion, fashion media NZ, beauty media nz, fashion blog nz, style blog nz, beauty blog nz, angie fredatovich, gurlinterrupted, NZIFF, NZFF

From the opening frames Coppola takes a straight up approach and allows the story to just play out and tell itself, giving the movie a voyeuristic feel.  We are merely peering in on the events as they happened – a group of middle-class, celebrity-obsessed kids from the Valley tracking their favourite stars online, heading on over to their houses while they’re out-of-town (timely reminder to those that still tweet and FB their every move around town – DON’T!) letting themselves in and helping themselves to whatever takes their fancy.

The Bling Ring is a smart, subtle social satire, with incredibly strong statements on fame, privacy, social media, materialism, personal boundaries, remorse, the cult of celebrity, and the Millennial generation’s seeming sense of entitlement and utter lack of distinction between right and wrong.

I personally LOVED this movie and gave it 9 Jaffas out of 10!

I highly recommend, that if you get the chance to go to the NZIFF, you head along and see The Bling Ring!  Follow the jump to www.nziff.co.nz and check out the remaining NZ Film Festival schedule.

Marilyn Monroe Is Brought Back To Life…

Marilyn Monroe, Sexy Hair, Fashion, Beauty, Hair, Famous, Marilyn Monroe Hair Ads, Sexy Hair Ad Campaign, fashion blog nz, beauty blog nz, style blog nz, angie fredatovich, nz pr, fashion media nz, beauty media nz

One of the world’s most iconic screen sirens may have died back in 1962, but did Marilyn Monroe ever really leave us?  Monroe was an American actress, model, and singer, who became a major sex symbol, starring in a number of commercially successful motion pictures during the 1950s and early 1960s.

Christened Norma Jeane Baker, Monroe  has always had a special place in my heart – I’ve read every book about her, watched all her movies and have always been infatuated with the haunting mystery that she held in her eyes.  Yes, she was a blonde bombshell and looked the picture of ‘Hollywood’ donning her famous red pout and billowing white dress, but every now and then a photograph would capture her sadness, and I found myself intrigued and wanting to know more about her and what or who it was that sadly cut her life short. If I could bring one person back for just a day to ask them all my unanswered questions – I would certainly choose Marilyn.

Well, I may not have all my questions answer, however, it would seem the brand ‘Sexy Hair’ is just as infatuated with the actress. Monroe appears in a new series of ads for Sexy Hair, which has billed the ad campaign with the tagline, “Styles Change. Sexy is Forever.”

For Miss Monroe, “forever” is certainly not too far from the truth. As reported in the Huffington Post “Sexy Hair licensed the rights to Monroe’s name, quotes and image from Authentic Brands Group, which owns all the rights to her estate, and will be launching an extensive campaign come October”.

And so the iconic actress once again makes headlines. Following in the footsteps of Vanity Fair – for which she has graced many a cover, Christian Dior  – who also harnessed the power of Monroe in the 2011 J’Adore Dior commercial starring Charlize Theron with a digitized Marilyn, Grace Kelly and Marlene Dietrich, Sexy Hair has also captured her timeless appeal.

So, what do you think of the new ads featuring Monroe?   Do you feel sad that she is selling hair product?  Or are you happy to see her star in her own campaign? Personally, as a huge Monroe fan, I think its fabulous and Miss M would be happy to still be winning leading roles in campaigns such as this…

The World Is Full Of Moments. This Moment Is Focused On You…

Dry & Tea, Dray and Tea, Dry & Tea City Works Depot, Kurt Counsell, Louise Dry & Tea NZ, Best Ugly Bagels, Hairdresser, hair stylist, evo, hair salon, high tea, belliage, blowdry, Al Brown, beauty, beauty blog nz, style blog nz, fashion blog nz, nz PR, Angie fredatovich

I wouldn’t call it stalking exactly, buuuuut, I guess it kinda comes close when you know you would literally follow [see: hunt down] your hairdresser ANYWHERE. I knew my amazing hair stylist – Kurtis Counsell, was moving to a new salon but I had no idea where, and yes that terrified me. I mean what if he moved to another city? What if he, gulp, left the country? What if he went to a salon that I’ve been to before (prior to finding Kurt of course) that I never wanted to return to? I know it would still be Kurt doing my hair so it shouldn’t matter the salon he is at so long as he’s still my hair stylist, BUT, call me shallow – it really did matter to me that he went to a salon that I deemed amazing, and one that I’d want to ‘hang out at’. Which brings me to the big unveiling of where Kurt has moved to….

Dry & Tea City Works Depot, Kurt Counsell, Louise Dry & Tea NZ, Best Ugly Bagels, Hairdresser, hair stylist, evo, hair salon, high tea, belliage, blowdry, Al Brown, beauty, beauty blog nz, style blog nz, fashion blog nz, nz PR, Angie FredatovichThat’s right – my hairdresser extraordinaire, otherwise known as Kurt, is now at the UBER-COOL Hair Salon DRY & TEA, based in the City Works Depot! [Cue girly squeals of delight!!] Seriously, I have been dying to try out Dry & Tea since it opened, but as you know, I won’t visit a hair salon unless it comes with a side of Kurt!

So I gave Kurt some time to find his feet at his new hair salon before I bombarded him with all my hair needs since I last visited him…. Ok I gave him a day! 24 hours is long enough right? I just really wanted to check out the slick new headquarters and see what they had to offer – ‘scope it out’ as they say. I turned up on Dry & Tea’s doorstep on Kurt’s 2nd day of work and he kindly showed me around and talked me through everything they have to offer, and let me tell you, this is a FULL SERVICE SALON!  From cuts and colours, belliage, tints and foils, through to mani’s, lash application and a styling bar to get you looking red-carpet ready.  They even hold ‘high tea’, group bookings and full service catering!! (oh, and a lil something for the boys, should they wish to indulge in a beer or perhaps a glass of whiskey, they have that too!).

Oh hi there Mr Al Brown (stopping in for tea and a quick bite to eat at Dry & Tea)

Firstly, before I show you their fabulous ‘menu’, yup, I said menu, let me just say that this salon is beyond cool. They have their very own on-site café for goodness sake – how cool is that?! They have such beautiful surroundings – I mean they are situated in THE most happening location, next to The Food Truck and Best Ugly Bagels (two of my fave new places), there’s ample parking, they’re central so it’s super handy and the vibe they have going on is hip and edgy, yet still relaxed and inviting. I’m heading back to see Kurt tomorrow for a real appointment (no turning up outta the blue this time) so I can report back with more on Dry & Tea real soon, but in the meantime – check out their full-service ‘menu’ and all the fabulous things on offer…

So, If you’re looking for a new hairdresser, or just need a hairdresser full stop, head to Dry & Tea and ask for Kurt – maybe even let him know I sent you and see what he can do for you!  As they say at Dry & Tea – The world is full of moments. This moment is focused on you!  So focus on you and head to Dry & Tea for some beautifying pampering!

ANNAH STRETTON’S RUNWAY BRIDE: Same-Sex Couple To Wed At NZFW…

NZFW, New Zealand Fashion Week, Come On Oz, Say I Do, marriage equality, same-sex marriage, Annah Stretton, Runway Bride, fashion blog nz, style blog nz, beauty blog nz, fashion media, angie fredatovich, annah stretton competition

It’s times like these I am just SO proud to be a kiwi…  New Zealand designer Annah Stretton has launched a campaign (competition if you will) ‘COME ON OZ, SAY I DO” to find a same-sex female couple to get married on the catwalk at New Zealand Fashion Week.

As you know (unless you’ve been living under a rock) NZ passed a law allowing ‘same-sex’ couples to marry as of August 19 (actually can’t believe I even have to say ‘allow’ – it seems so crazy to me that same-sex couples need to ask for ‘permission’ to marry in the first place).  Stretton has opened this competition to Australians – to encourage our sister-country to follow suit.  Love it!  Even VOGUE UK has picked up on this story, which goes to show – it just takes one big name to get everyone talking.

The “Come on Oz, Say I Do” competition is open for applications until July 30 – and includes return flights to New Zealand for the lucky couple, accommodation, wedding reception (for up to 250 guests) AND bespoke bridal gowns designed by the fabulous lady herself!  She doesn’t just stop there – Stretton will dress the bridal party too and they’ll be invited to take part in the show.  The lucky couple will say ‘I do’ on the catwalk during New Zealand Fashion Week on September 7, in front of a crowd of 1,000 people.

Excerpt from UK Vogue’s interview with Stretton: “It will not only celebrate the fact that from August 19 same-sex partners will be able to legally marry in New Zealand, but will also encourage our Pacific neighbours to follow our lead and legalise gay marriage,” said Stretton. “This is a cause that I am incredibly passionate about. I have always been proud to call myself a New Zealander and even more so now that we do not discriminate against those who want to be married based on their gender. Because they cannot yet get married in their own country, I’m inviting our Aussie neighbours to jump the ditch and, using the platform I have been given at New Zealand Fashion Week, be married for the world to see, in what is set to be a fashion show extravaganza that will be remembered for years to come.”

ANNAH STRETTON – you make me so proud to be a New Zealander!  Ooooh maybe it will even be a friend of mine that wins – I hope so!

With love and a open mind..

The ’50 Random Facts About Me’ Tag…

50 Random Facts About Me Tag, beauty blog nz, fashion blog nz, style blog nz, angie fredatovich, gurlinterrupted, shoes, heels,

OK, so this isn’t something I normally do – take part in ‘bloggers tags’. I tend to stick to Fashion & Beauty posts, HOWEVER, I’ve been tagged in the ’50 Random Facts About Me’ tag a few times now, so I’ve caved. I’ve always thought “does anyone really care about these kind of tags, or want to know 50 random things about me?” but after checking out some of my friends ’50 Random Facts’ vids and write-ups (shout-out to my friends over in LA that tagged me) I can see that it’s actually quite a cool way to get to know people better. So here goes:

1.  I realise this is not that random if you know me, but… I am obsessed with the colour green, not in the ‘oh I love green, it’s my fave colour” kinda way.  I mean completely and utterly “there is no better colour in the world and everything I see that is green, I want to own” kinda way. This has been my favourite colour since I was old enough to know what colour was, and this has not waned one single bit. Additional useless random facts – my eyes are green and my birthstone is green (Peridot).  The pic below of someone wearing a green dress, holding a macaroon – yeah that’s me! That photo sums up my obsession perfectly.  If I could have convinced Veuve to change their brand to green, I would have, so that I didn’t have to wear that hideous yellow band!

2.  I have an irrational fear and hatred of tubular-like-holes. Good lord even writing that sounds ridiculous I know, yet makes my skin crawl, I want to dry-reach and am physically repulsed by them! Just any tubular-like-holes, doesn’t matter the form – I am utterly repulsed! There are even flower seed pods that I cannot look at (see: Lotus seed heads). I’ve had this fear/hatred all my life and yet only recently found out there is actually a name for this condition – Trypophobia.

3.  I own 250+ pairs of shoes. This is not an exaggeration.

4.  I have been known to get changed several times in one day (kinda love fashion – just a tad!)

5.  I associate people and things with colour. Like when I meet someone I will see them as a colour and associate them with a colour. Is that weird? I’m not sure how else to properly explain the ‘colour thing’. Obviously people who are not so nice, will be associated with a not-so-nice colour. Also, I dislike purple and wholeheartedly believe it should be reserved for Barney, and Barney alone!

50 Random Facts About Me Tag, beauty blog nz, fashion blog nz, style blog nz, angie fredatovich, gurlinterrupted, shoes, heels,

6.  I am OCD. Not in the way that the condition is way too easily thrown around nowadays, but ACTUALLY OCD (it makes me mad that everyone claims to have this – why would you want to have OCD?). I literally had to ween myself off/teach myself, and this took several years, to stop doing things an even amount of times. I realise I am now going to sound bat-shit crazy, but I used to repeat, in my head, certain sounds or short sentences so that they were said/heard an even number of times. I also had the same routine every night before I went to bed to ensure I did certain things twice (light switches , cupboard checks, etc). I no longer do any of this but still have to do a huge amount of things in even numbers and buy things in even amounts. I also freak when I’m given an odd number as a ticket or table number and will have to swap it for an even number or it will distract me for the entire day/night – I even changed my mobile number to ensure it was an even number. Also patterns need to be a certain way on clothes, marks on things do my head in and with shoes – they have to be exactly identical (not a single mark or stitch out-of-place) or it will bug me to the point I just can’t wear something.  I love leopard print, but do you know how long it took me to find the perfect pair of leopard loafers that had as-close-to the exact same pattern on both shoes – LOL. Also, in my world, left = odd and right = even.

7.  Staying on the topic of odd numbers – In my world, the only uneven number that is acceptable is 13 because it’s my birthdate, but I justify it by adding the 1+3 together, which equals 4 and 4 is my favourite even number.

8.  I am TERRIFIED of spiders! I have arachnophobia to the point I can’t even look at a picture of a spider on-screen without losing the plot. They move at night because the know they shouldn’t be there creeping around. Also, shoes – they should wear tiny little spider shoes so that we know when they are coming! I’m not really fussed about any other bugs (unless they resemble a spider).

9.  I love all seasons, and adore the beach, but secretly my favourite season is Winter.

10.  I became a qualified makeup artist purely because I am obsessed with beauty products and all things beauty, and of course so that I could do my own makeup like a boss, but I knew full well I would never actually choose makeup artistry as a full-time job.

11.  I have NEVER ‘dreamt of my wedding day’ and I’ve never understood girls that do

12.  When I was really little, I invented a name for Hermit Crabs (obviously I didn’t know that’s what they were called). My family frequented the beach often (we spent most weekends at Waiheke) and I would always say ‘the kerbies are here’ or ‘I saw kerbies yesterday’ and my family were like ‘what the heck are kerbies?’. It took them months to find out what kerbies were. My cousin ran in the house one day yelling “I finally know what kerbies are!!!! They’re hermit crabs”. Apparently I picked up an empty shell that was outside the front door and said ‘aww kerbie gone’.

13.  My superpower is distraction, but I wish it was invisibility.

14.  I find necessities such as putting petrol in my car, having to use the bathroom and sleeping, incredibly annoying and a waste of life!

15.  My best friend has been my bestie for 25 years  and still remains my best friend ever. Hi Trace 🙂

16.  When I was 5 years old I got sick and went into a coma and my family were warned not to leave the hospital and to prepare for the worst as I may not pull through. The next day I was jumping up and down on the bed making fun of the doctor’s name. Till this day, they still have no idea what it was that put me in a coma, nor what it was that bought me out of the coma.

17.  I have the cutest grey cat in the world named Jolie, who I rescued after she was dumped not far from where I live. I’m convinced she understands everything I say to her.

18.  I did gymnastics for 7 years.

19.  Walking outside in strong windy weather makes me instantly angry (I would not bode well in Wellington).

20.  I have always had a sixth sense/belief that I cannot have children. I have no idea if this is true, nor medical proof to back up this irrational belief, but a little part of me still thinks it’s factual.

21.  I’m terrified of the dark and I still sleep with the light on (yes, the light on, every night!)

22.  My favourite word to say is cryptosporidium.

23.  I love guys names for girls.

24.  I am addicted to the Crime Investigation channel.

25.  I believe that no child should ever be named Bruce.

26.  I love owls.

27.  I believe that ants scream ‘tiny ant screams’ when people kill them

28.  Every time I swim in sea water I hear the Jaws theme in my head and have to exit immediately.

29.  I have only ever cut my hair short once (the Rachael) and I couldn’t look at myself in the mirror for weeks because I felt so ugly. I wore it up every day until it grew long.

50 Random Facts About Me Tag, beauty blog nz, fashion blog nz, style blog nz, angie fredatovich, gurlinterrupted, shoes, heels,

30.  My biggest HATE in the whole wide world is animal cruelty. If I see an image of an animal caged up, read about an animal cruelty case or see something awful happening to an animal on TV, I will have that image/thought in my head for weeks and it will depress the heck outta me. I truly believe that someone who can be cruel to a defenseless animal has no soul and belongs in hell!

31.  I am the fussiest, pickiest eater in the world (my friends, my guy, my family will vouch for this). Oh, and my favourite savoury food is Italian

32.  I hate discussing money and dislike stingy/tight people

33.  I have NEVER scrolled through my guys Facebook page. Yes, he thinks this is strange, as do my friends.  I just don’t see the point.

34.  I am directionally challenged! I know one route to every location and once I know that route, that is the only one I will take, even if I’m told there is a quicker way. If I took the quicker way, I would get lost – that is a fact!

35.  I cannot watch or hear someone else brushing their teeth – not even on TV. The sound doesn’t bother me whilst I’m brushing my own teeth, but someone else brushing their teeth within earshot… *shudder*

36.  I very rarely cry

37.  I love love love Christmas – it is my favourite time of the year

38.  I wish I still had my grandparents and am extremely envious of those that still do.

39.  I can’t stand repetitive noise – it drives me insane! I will literally rip a pen out of a stranger’s hand if they are consistently ‘pen-clicking’ near me

40.  My guilty pleasure is watching the Home & Away omnibus’

41.  The moment I get up, I have to make my bed and it must be made to perfection! I won’t even hop in the shower until my bed is made.

42.  I was personally victimised by Regina George. OK that’s not true, but I love the movie ‘Mean Girls’.

43.  My favourite saying right now is “no more beersies for you”.

44.  I believe brussel sprouts are satanic baby cabbages disguised as vegetables.

45.  I am a control freak, yet ridiculously indecisive when it comes to only being allowed to choose one item!

46.  My pet peeves are people who eat with their mouth open, loud gum-chewers, rude shop assistants, shop assistants that look about 20 and call me ‘love’ ‘sweetie’ or ‘honey’ – I am at least 10 years your senior – are you kidding me?! People that say ‘smile’ when you are either sitting at your desk, reading or walking past them – yeah do you know how ridiculous I would look if I walked around with a huge smile on my face for no reason, 24/7? I’d get locked up! What if my pet just died – do you still think ‘smile’ is an appropriate request?

47.  When I was little my mum found me in the bath, visibly upset and practically scrubbing my legs raw.  When she asked what the heck I was doing, I replied “I’m trying to make my skin clean – I don’t want to be dirty and the brown won’t come off me”.  My mum asked where on earth this was coming from, and why did I think my skin was dirty, to which I replied “a girl at gymnastics told me my skin wasn’t white and pointed out that hers was white and clean”.  Being the only olive-skinned girl at gymnastics (of Croatian, French, Spanish descent) I thought that I was meant to be her colouring and that I just hadn’t scrubbed my skin clean enough. My mum said to me, when you are older you will love your olive skin and girls will wish they had your colouring.  I didn’t believe her at the time, but she was right – I’m SO grateful for my naturally olive skin; and I’m happy to report I no longer try to scrub away my natural tan ha ha.

48.  I’m a little embarrassed to admit that I have more clothes than I could ever wear in my entire lifetime.

49.  When I was little – I wore braces (not the little ones, not the clear ones, the big ugly ones), glasses (thick brown glasses), had a fringe and pigtails.  Not fun!  Thank god photos weren’t digital back then!

50.  I am extremely sarcastic! Is sarcasm really the lowest form of humour? Is it? Really?!

Well, that concludes the ’50 Random Facts About Me’ tag. I would love to see or read 50 Random Facts about you, so leave a link below if you have completed this tag, or if you too have some of the same idiosyncracies as me – let me know so that I don’t feel quite so, well, random! Oh, and If you haven’t been tagged – consider yourself tagged now 🙂
