And so the search begins for the Specsavers Spectacle Wearer of The Year…  Sex and The City actress, Kim Cattrall touched down in New Zealand last week to lead the search with Specsavers to find New Zealand’s most stylish spec-wearer. Oh, and did I mention I was lucky enough to meet and dine with the hollywood beauty? Specsavers you’re amazing!

Kim takes up the role of star judge and ambassador for the Specsavers Spectacle Wearer of The Year competition, following in the footsteps of fellow proud spec-wearing ambassadors – actresses Eva Longoria, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Margot Robbie, style icon and Mad Men star Christina Hendricks and international supermodel Helena Christensen.

Kim is the perfect ambassador for Specsavers – not only is she an absolute inspiration to women the world over, an amazing award-winning actress, and someone who I could personally talk to for hours, she’s a true blue spec-wearer (like myself)…

Kim said, “I remember looking for glasses during one of my first shopping experiences. I was apprehensive but loved it, there were so many styles to choose from and I must have tried on most of the specs on display. In fact, I still have that first pair!”

“I like wearing glasses so I can see, obviously, but also because a smart of pair of glasses and the right frame for my face is enough of a fashion statement in itself. For me, glasses are the ultimate accessory which is why I’m excited to come to New Zealand to help Specsavers find the most stylish spec wearer.”

Well known for his takeover judging stint on NZ’s 2015 X Factor Show (after the infamous departure of Natalia Kills and Willy Moon) and as drummer for iconic rock bands I Am Giant (we’re big, big fans!) and Blindspott, Shelton Woolright has a new project up his (ink-covered) sleeves…

When the names Shelton Woolright, Otis Frizzell, Flox (Hayley King), Askew One and Dean Sacred are used in one sentence, you know it’s going to be good. And good it is, with an event that encompasses both charity elements and a very important message.

The upcoming exhibition Lonesome Beast Native presented by Moa Brewing Co. is a continuation from the highly acclaimed 2014 creative collaboration and photographic series ‘Lonesome Beast’ between Shelton Woolright and Dean Sacred, and this time round has added a few more popular local names to the mix.

The limited number of pieces (each hand numbered, signed and wax stamped on archival paper) will be on display in the iconic Old Elephant House at The Auckland Zoo between February 3rd and 26th, open to the public with viewing times adopting The Auckland Zoo’s regular opening hours.

The exhibition features 15 prints of Woolright’s photography, each customised with unique layers by one of the partner artists and for sale from $180 in sizes ranging from A3 to A0. Ten per cent of sales from all prints will go towards The Auckland Zoo Conservation Fund, supporting conservation efforts in the wild throughout New Zealand and overseas. Even if you’re not our lucky winner of this limited edition print and zoo passes, do head in and check out the exhibition (which ends February 26th) – not only is it a once in a lifetime opportunity, it’s sure to be an amazing viewing.

To further support the efforts of The Auckland Zoo Conservation Fund and to tie into the exhibition, naming-rights sponsor Moa Brewing Co. will be wrapping 15 of its Moa Methode Pilsner Magnum brews with the lead Moa image from the exhibit and contributing all proceeds of its sales to the Conservation Fund.

In times when most locally run textile houses have closed their doors – one smart, mill in NZ is continuing to grow and delight overseas interest.

Inter-weave is a NZ firm that designs and manufactures luxurious wool textiles and throws. These products are sold throughout the world to high-end wholesalers and furniture manufacturers such a Knoll New York, Ralph Lauren and Rubelli of Italy.

“Our story is one of a kind as we are one of the last weavers left in NZ, and have a larger overseas presence than local, “ Managing Director, Tracy March says.

Inter-weave has won awards in the US as recently as June last year. In 2014 winning a silver at Neocon, Chicago; Inter-weave also won a highly sought-after contract through Maxell Rodgers several years ago to supply bed throws to the Venetian Hotel in Los Vegas.

“We are 100% NZ owned, use NZ wool, have yarn spun in NZ, then design, dye, weave and finish all our products on site in Auckland, something very rare these days indeed,” – Managing Director, Tracy March says.

A passionate designer at the forefront of his profession, Mal Corboy is in demand around the world designing bespoke kitchens for clients from New Zealand to Australia to the USA and currently a complete home fit out in Trinidad and Tobago.

Corboy, who has honed his specialist set of skills and continually pushed boundaries to create challenging, dynamic kitchens, has teamed up with Simon Gault and his network of highly skilled chefs to marry exclusively created recipes with Corboy’s kitchen designs in an innovative new book, thought to be a world first.

“I designed and built a kitchen for Simon Gault and when we were developing the concept for the book we thought it would be an incredible addition to have a recipe from Simon to sit alongside his kitchen”, says Corboy.

“Simon was so keen he then invited chefs from the likes of Fish, Jervois Road Steakhouse, Pravda and Shed 5 to be inspired by the kitchens and create recipes to sit beside the featured spaces; 11 of which are kitchens that have not been published or seen before”, says Corboy.

A designer with a raft of accolades and 37 design awards, Mal Corboy creates not only the beautiful and well designed but the functional. As a specialist he knows exactly how the space should be laid out to suit the person using it and ensure it is more than aesthetically pleasing.
