To wrap up New Zealand Fashion Week we headed along to the MAC Technique Seminar on the weekend.  A fabulous event where we were shown how to create two different looks by M.A.C Makeup Artists – Olivia and Kiki.

Olivia created a beautiful dramatic eye and nude lip on Ella Corbin, whilst Kiki focussed on a dark lip and flawless fresh face on model Aislinn Faulkner. As Olivia and Kiki showed us how to create these two very different looks, they also shared with us their favourite MAC Cosmetics items that they wouldn’t be without, as well as sharing a couple of insider tips.

In making over N Model Management’s Ella and Aislinn, both makeup artists used their ultimate MAC beauty items – Prep + Prime, Fast Response Eye Creme, Lip Conditioner, MAC Concealer Palette; and of course the infamous MAC 239 & 217 Makeup Brushes.

A great tip that the girls shared with us was how to create a flawless liner along your lash-line/eyelid.  Many of us are guilty of, when trying to create a beautiful cat-eye-line, looking straight at the mirror or tilting the head down slightly and applying the liner. Or worse still. pulling the eyelid taut to try to achieve a smooth application.  What Olivia and Kiki told us was that if you do either of these things the lashes actually contract, which in turn creates an imperfect and wavy line.  To avoid this, and instead create the perfect lashliner look, tilt your chin up and then apply the fluid liner – viola! A totally different perspective, of which creates the perfect line.

But hey, why talk you through all the fabulous MAC products and further tips & tricks when you could find out first hand for yourself…

The Miscellaneous Musings Of A Girl Interrupted By Fashion, Beauty & Anything Pretty That Catches My Eye. I am passionately in love with the colour green!! I've always loved green, even as a child. My mother said this would wane as I got older. it did not!! I love nothing more than having the mundane interrupted by all things beautiful and fashionable. Passing time in tiny cafes with a pot of tea and a pile of magazines. Sitting under a tree with my favourite book or ‘old-school’ journal jotting down blogging ideas. Taking photographs of beautiful things, sitting front row at Fashion Week. Giant bunches of fragrant flowers, burning Ecoya candles, vintage jewellery. Trawling antique shops and markets for antique books, writing slopes and jewellery boxes. Hibernating indoors by the fire during winter, laying on freshly mowed grass eating pastries and sipping on raspberry lemonade during summer. The red sole of louboutins, exciting parcels arriving at the door with forgotten online purchases or product samples. Unwrapping the tissue of ‘just bought’ items of clothing from my favourite stores, Marc Jacobs, Karen Walker, Storm, Decjuba, Glassons, Loumina, Country Road, Bobbi Brown, MAC, oh the list goes on… Please do write to me at any time with comments, invites, press notes, media releases, things you’d like me to try and your own favourite finds. There’s nothing I love more than to connect with fellow Beauty Gurus & Fashionistas alike. You can reach me at angie@gurlinterrupted.com Ange xx

I would have to agree in saying that MAC’s lipstick are always amazing. At the moment I’m loving ‘cyber’ for those vampy nights out but I’ve got my eye on ‘fixed on drama’ and ‘show orchid’ too….

  • Emily Claure says:

I would have to say that the MAC studio fix fluid has been my go to for a few years now. I got a shade that I can use in the summer as a foundation, but as a bronzer the rest of the year, and I have to say that it is better than most of the bronzers I’ve used!

  • rebecca dieudonne says:

I love the incredible range of eye shadows, having fair skin and blue eyes, I love ‘satin taupe’ as a light-brown day look and then increasing the depth with the MAC gel liner and the darker brown shade ‘mystery’. I find the colours wear really well, without the need for a lot of primer and they don’t crease!
Would love to learn how to apply that smoky glitter look in the photos above!!
Thanks Ange, keep up the great articles!
