MAC Autumn/Winter 2015 Trends: Beauty Is Diversity

In the constant and evolving conversation of what defines beauty today, true makeup artistry broadens the propositions and opens our eyes to inspired options of how to celebrate beauty with makeup…

MAC Autumn/Winter 2015 Trends: Beauty Is Diversity

Beauty is diversity – we no longer expect trends to follow a common thread. Yes, it seems we’ll be getting a wider range of trends to suit every makeup inspiration. Amen to that! Dark vs light, hard vs soft, colour vs muted tones, texture vs technique – MAC makeup artists have created a varied mash-up of eras and ideas to compose this season’s trends presentation.

MAC Autumn/Winter 2015 Trends: Beauty Is Diversity

MAC, the oracle of makeup artistry, has given us license to explore and experiment with makeup, combining trends from opposite ends of the spectrum. We can be strong, dynamic and creative, to the point of reconsidering and reinventing beauty classics.

The best description of MAC’s Autumn/Winter 2015’s trends is this: makeup is polarised between dark anarchy and light romance, with the challenge being that of how to play with tough and tender beauty within the one look. Well, of course, MAC has shown us how to do exactly that, and do it seamlessly…

Check out MAC’s four key makeup trends for Autumn/Winter 2015

Beautiful and damned
How to breathe new life into the color black? By way of victorians-meets-punk-meets-couture levels of elegance. This makeup trend infuses the toughest attitudes of monochrome with a heritage of extreme elegance, providing an entirely modern vision of powerful femininity. Black lipstick, sh*t yeah!

The essentials:
Feline Kohl Power Eye Pencil – Blackest of black kohl formula
Black Chromaline – Pigmented and long-wear gel liner formula
Beg For It Into the Well Eye Shadow – Wet/dry carbon black shadow liner
Extreme Dimension 3D Black Lash – High volume, high definition carbon black mascara
Media Lipstick – Chic blackened red
Spiked Eye Brows – Universal charcoal brown eyebrow pencil
White Face and Body Foundation – porcelain luminescence in the iconic Face and Body formula

Strength of beauty
Elegance gets a re-think in the wake of the reality explored in the last few seasons: dressing the face in subtly beautifying makeup that strengthens the features (see blush pink, bronzer, straight brows and mascara get modernised) results in a new strength of beauty. This is as natural as we get this season. This trend is about the tension between the done and the undone, playing with nuanced shades and subtle textures in a subtle way.

The essentials:
Dark Golden Mineralize Skin Finish Natural – Universal honey-toned bronzer
Vintage Selection Pro Longwear Paint pot – A dewy, tea-stained cream shadow
Studio Sculpt Defining Powder – Soft focus, ultra lightweight gel-powder
Sweet Persuasion Huggable Glass – An elegant light pink, lip-plumping shine
Clear Brow Set – The classic, instant brow grooming tool
Just a Wisp Mineralize Blush – For a fresh feminine flush

Love worn
It suddenly feels right to redefine the idea of sexiness and come to the realisation that it’s moved far and away from cliché; this makeup plays with a translucent grey-scale that reinvents the smoky eye. Think makeup that has been worn all day or night, and is all the better for it. This is a trend that everyone will love as it takes classic makeup to the next level. A nuanced version of something that used to be quite ‘done’.

The essentials:
Ebony Eye Pencil – A blendable, soft slate-black
Tailor Grey PRO LONGWEAR PAINT POT – Creates a natural, mink-grey smokiness
M·A·C Studio Conceal & Correct palette – The indispensable tool for the subtlest correction
Prep + Prime Lip – A smart, matte lip perfector
Mineralize Timecheck Lotion – The ultimate skin veil, for the smoothest canvas
Groundwork Pro Longwear Paint Pot – An invisible, but eye-brightening cream “real shadow”

Red 70s
Red lips are reworked, with a deep red contemporary twist on the classic that is a crimson mouth. It’s retro-inspired, but not as we know it: these unconventional reds stem from the rusty haze of the 70s, stopping to pay reference everywhere from romantic pre-Raphaelite auburn tones to the brick shades of the 80s and 90s. This trend represents the reinvention of red lips in red brick, rusty red and new nuances of red.

The essentials:
Caramel and Terracotta Prep + Prime – CC Colour Correcting SPF 30/PA++ Correctors used as shadows for rich 70’s suede tones
Chili Lipstick – Sophisticated, timeless terracotta
High Drama M·A·C Retro Matte Liquid – A rich oxblood
Clear Lipglass – A shot of high vinyl in a tube
Dance with Me M·A·C Retro Matte Liquid – Classic cherry red
Uninterrupted Pro Longwear Eye Shadow – Bohemian mustard brown
Mahogany and Auburn Lip Pencils – For a precise sculpted lip, in classic russet tones

The Miscellaneous Musings Of A Girl Interrupted By Fashion, Beauty & Anything Pretty That Catches My Eye. I am passionately in love with the colour green!! I've always loved green, even as a child. My mother said this would wane as I got older. it did not!! I love nothing more than having the mundane interrupted by all things beautiful and fashionable. Passing time in tiny cafes with a pot of tea and a pile of magazines. Sitting under a tree with my favourite book or ‘old-school’ journal jotting down blogging ideas. Taking photographs of beautiful things, sitting front row at Fashion Week. Giant bunches of fragrant flowers, burning Ecoya candles, vintage jewellery. Trawling antique shops and markets for antique books, writing slopes and jewellery boxes. Hibernating indoors by the fire during winter, laying on freshly mowed grass eating pastries and sipping on raspberry lemonade during summer. The red sole of louboutins, exciting parcels arriving at the door with forgotten online purchases or product samples. Unwrapping the tissue of ‘just bought’ items of clothing from my favourite stores, Marc Jacobs, Karen Walker, Storm, Decjuba, Glassons, Loumina, Country Road, Bobbi Brown, MAC, oh the list goes on… Please do write to me at any time with comments, invites, press notes, media releases, things you’d like me to try and your own favourite finds.
