Well Aren’t These Just #thesh*t

Because who wouldn’t want embroidered poop emblazoned across their beautiful Italian loafers?!

Fashion industry favourite – Edie Parker, has teamed up with legendary shoemaker – Del Toro, to design exclusively for online boutique Moda Operandi, the emoji loafer & purse collection, aptly named “M’oticons”.

emoji-loafersI’ve been pondering the M’oticons range since their launch and quite honestly, my brain still doesn’t quite know how to process any of it!  Don’t get me wrong, I love communicating in emoji as much as the next person, online!  And it does combine two of my favourite things, symbols and hashtags, again, online! (and not in overkill) But on my shoes? Well, I’m just not sure I’m feelin it.

OK, let’s start with the poop shoe, or more accurately #theshit – yes, they named this slick slipper #theshit.  Now, enter the price tag, circa US$340.  So, just to clarify… two fashion industry faves have collaborated to create a line of fabulous Italian loafers, of which they’ve embroidered with various emojis, one of which is called #theshit.  It doesn’t end there – you can also treat yourself to #Dabomb loafer (with a bomb and fire on each shoe), #QueenBee (featuring the queen and bee emojis), #DancingQueen, #HighMaintenance (hmmm maybe I should consider that pair) and several other partnered emoticons.  But wait, there’s more, you can also bag yourself (pun intended) a matching clutch for a cool $1,595. Yeah, I think I’ll probably just stick to the emojis on my iPhone and let this fad pass me by. I mean sure, maybe if they were under $50 so that I didn’t feel bad when I binned them, once they reached their expiry date.

As much as I’m clearly not the biggest fan of the overpriced M’oticon shoe range, they’re certainly still worth a mention, if not just for the pure amusement of it all.

Check out some of the emoji pairings on offer and make up your own mind on the M’oticon range…

Jimmy Choo EXOTIC…

jimmy-choo-exotic-2014

No longer solely wearing Jimmy Choo’s on my feet – now my perfume matches my footwear!

Jimmy Choo has launched a new Limited Edition perfume aptly named EXOTIC.  It’s edgy, sexy and oh so glamorous.

jimmy-choo-exotic-2014

EXOTIC is a fruity floral perfume based around tiger orchids and patchouli, perfectly balanced by the tart, spicy notes of pink grapefruit and raspberry.  EXOTIC  has “an exuberant character, with touches of bright, frosty colours, like a refreshing sorbet made with red berries and the zest of pink grapefruit,” according to its creators.

Inspired by the iconic previous skins of Jimmy Choo collections, EXOTIC is a sexy, elegant fragrance reinterpreting the original perfume.  Imagined by Olivier Polge (who designed the first Jimmy Choo fragrance), Domitille Bertier and Veronique Nyberg, its floral composition leaves an imprint on skin which is as explosive as it is addictive.

jimmy-choo-exotic-2014

If you love a strong (yet not overpowering), woody, oriental fragrance, you are going to love Jimmy Choo’s EXOTIC. There’s something really quite intoxicating about this scent. It evokes long summer days and balmy evenings, transporting you to a dreamy tropical location.  It’s colourful yet confident, bold yet playful.

Top Notes: black currant sorbet & pink grapefruit.  Middle Notes: passion-flower & tiger orchid.  Base Notes: Raspberry and Patchouli

EXOTIC is available as an eau de toilette in 100ml ($150) and 60ml ($100) sizes.

An evening with Karen Walker, Simone Cipriani & Derek Henderson…

Karen Walker Visible

Karen Walker Visible

This season sees the launch of Karen Walker’s latest campaign entitled “Visible”.  A campaign that, together with the United Nations’ Ethical Fashion Institute (EFI) aims to highlight, celebrate and acknowledge, by creating and supporting the work of artisan community groups throughout Kenya.

Presenting to a captured audience at The Nathan Club on Friday evening, Simone Cipriani, Chief Technical Advisor of the EFI (of the United Nations’ International Trade Centre), along with Karen Walker and photographer Derek Henderson, spoke about their recent collaboration with the United Nations in Kenya.

Karen Walker Visible Karen Walker Visible Karen Walker Visible Karen Walker Visible

Cipriani explained the EFI works with communities throughout Africa and in Haiti, up-skilling artisans, while paying them a “fair wage” to make products for luxury brands that include the likes of Fendi, Marni, Vivienne Westwood and Stella McCartney. Cipriani says the EFI approached Karen Walker because the brand is positive and innovative, the perfect match to celebrate and empower the artisans of Kenya.

The EFI’’s motto is “Not Charity, Just Work”, and in teaming up with Karen Walker set about to create sustainable business for micro-artisans by utilising their direct skill-set, creating a series of screen-printed pouches that will accompany every pair of Walker’s “Visible” eyewear. In addition to this, more elaborate and embellished versions, also made by Kenyan artisan groups, will be available to buy separately.

Not one to rest on her laurels, Walker takes the project one step further by starring the artisans themselves in her latest campaign, to literally make visible, the artisans behind the designs, through the portrait photography of Derek Henderson. Henderson captures the machinists, tailors, production managers, metal workers and cutters, who have acquired or refined their craft through the ethical fashion initiative.

“Visible” is not the first campaign Karen Walker has collaborated on with the EFI and we’re sure it wont be the last!

The ‘Max Winter 2014’ Collection

Max Fashion NZ Winter 2014 Collection Fashion Style

Max Fashion NZ Winter 2014 Collection Fashion Style

With the launch of Max’s new Winter 2014 Collection, I think it’s fairly safe to say – finding the perfect coat for the cooler months ahead is NOT going to be a problem!  Whilst Max has a myriad of on-trend garments to choose from in their new range, it’s their coats and jackets (oh, and the most fabulous fedora I’ve seen to date) that have captured my attention.

To me, coats are what Max has always done best – their signature piece so to speak, and it appears, with their winter 2014 range, they’ve come back with a hiss and a roar to stamp their mark on the coat and jacket territory.

The seasonal coat comes to life with military styling, zip hardware detail, pleather and fur accents to cement a luxe look and feel.  Style and practicality is fused together with beautiful cashmere and soft wool fabrics.  The Cashmere Long Coat and Funnel Swing Coat nod to their classic heritage with an injection of modern relevance through colour and styling, and exquisite leathers that take you from day to night are just one more offering you can expect to find in the Max winter range.

As for the classic winter fedora – well this year Max has absolutely nailed it!  I’ve been searching for the perfect fedora for quite some time now. One that I can basically live in throughout winter, and I’ve finally found it – the Max ‘camel fedora’ is an absolute stunner!  If you’ve been searching for one yourself – you’re going to love this beauty.

Check out my ‘key coat picks’ from the new Max Winter 2014 Collection (with a guest appearance from the camel fedora of course!)….

Ciao Bella! The Warehouse Launches Stylish Italian Hosiery Range…

the warehouse

the warehouse

On 24 March, The Warehouse is launching two new hosiery ranges: CLiO Girl and CLiO Italian, which quite frankly, are damned cool!  From a sassy suspender print through to quirky animal motifs (yes I need a pair of ‘Pet Shop Tights’ featuring a cat and dog on each knee) polka dots, sheers, opaque tights and more,  The Warehouse’ new stylish hosiery range  has got you covered!

Ciao Bella! The Warehouse Launches Stylish Italian Hosiery Range

Exclusive to The Warehouse, CLiO Girl brings sass and attitude to any outfit, with its fun range of hosiery.  CLiO Italian is a quality range of silky hosiery made in Italy using Italian materials and mills, offering wardrobe essentials with products including soft shine pantyhose and opaque tights, with prices starting at only $8. I mean seriously, at that starting price it makes quality italian hosiery totally affordable, and I don’t know about you, but given the way I go through tights – these incredible prices are going to be a godsend for me during winter!

To coincide with the addition of CLiO Girl and CLiO Italian to its shelves, The Warehouse is also re-launching its everyday hosiery range, H&H.

Ciao Bella! The Warehouse Launches Stylish Italian Hosiery Range

The H&H Basic range is priced at only $5 where the H&H Premium range is priced between $5 and $12. With smart new branding and a greater choice in styles, you can afford to stock up on more than one pair!

The Warehouse just keeps upping its game and this new hosiery range is another prime example that ‘quality CAN be affordable’.

TREND ALERT: Move Over Ballet Flat – The D’Orsay Is Here!

d'Orsay TREND ALERT shoes

TREND ALERT - The d'Orsay Flats

Definition: A d’Orsay style flat is a woman’s shoe in which the vamp of the shoe is cut away very close to the toe cup, and the sides are cut away, revealing the arch of the foot. The d’Orsay is often referred to as the two-piece flat, but I like to call it “the bikini of the shoe world”. With just a toe and heel cup, it feels like something between a sandal and a flat.

Not since Isabel Marant’s “Dicker” boot has a shoe taken the world by storm like Jenni Kayne’s D’Orsay. Arguably the sexiest non-heel to date, the pointy-toed flat flashes more skin than your average loafer and shows more sophistication than a ballet slipper.  Luckily for us, other brands were quick to create their own version of Kayne’s D’Orsay flat (hurrah!) which means an abundance of d’Orsay styles and colours, that are totally affordable!

Here’s a few of my favourite bargain-buy and splurge-worthy d’Orsay flats…

TIP:  Some d’Orsay flats have a small piece of elastic across the inside back of the heel (for example the Glassons flats) and unfortunately this can rub and be a little painful.  I’ve cut the elastic out of mine and put some ‘gel heel grips’ in place of the elastics and now they’re super comfy!

Watch All The Highlights From “10 DAYS OF FASHION IN THE CITY” Right Here…

10 days of fashion in the city 2014

One of New Zealand’s hottest events – 10 Days of Fashion in the City, has officially wrapped up for 2014 (yes I hear makeup artists and stylists breathe a sigh of relief too!).  Events such as The Height of Fashion (a lunch and fashion show with New Zealand designers) and New Zealand’s Longest Catwalk (presented by Schwarzkopf) were just a couple of the attractions that showcased New Zealand’s finest, in Auckland’s Heart of the City.

One of the ’10 Days of Fashion in the City’ standouts has to be New Zealand’s Longest Catwalk (styled by none other than NZ’s hottest stylist – Kylie Cooke) where over 4,000 people watched as traffic came to a standstill and designer and streetwear dominated Auckland’s Queen St. The record-breaking golden mile was style central as the latest looks were brought to spectators on a 125 meter long stretch of runway.

If you missed all this fabulousness (yes, fabulousness is now a word!) you can check out all the highlights from ’10 Days of Fashion in the City’ right here…

Introducing Boohoo Boutique Autumn/Winter 2014…

boohoo.com, boohoo nz, boohoo official, boohoo ownit

Y’all know my absolute LOVE for boohoo.com (I could happily live in boohoo fashion) and returning for its fifth season, boohoo Boutique brings together bohemian styling and ladylike prints for Autumn/Winter 2014 with the Sports Luxe and Woodcutter trends.  Yes I love boohoo.com, but ‘boohoo Boutique’, well that’s a whole notha level of love!

The fabulous thing about boohoo is (and I know I go on about this every time I write about them) they really are just so perfect for staying on-trend without breaking the bank.  I mean what girl doesn’t want to be donning the latest trends?  But lets face it, fashion is fickle and trends are ever-changing, so being able to afford & maintain a stylish on-trend wardrobe via boohoo Boutique’s quality offerings, well I think that’s just fantastic!

Prior to attending the media preview of the new boohoo Boutique AW2014 collection, I’d actually already been online collating my order a couple of days prior, so whilst I’ve showcased below some of my key picks from the new range, I will be following up with a style edit & look-book post as soon as my order arrives so you can see all the amazing pieces that I’ve personally chosen, along with a photo shoot (or maybe even a video look-book), so stay tuned for that.

Continuing the premium quality that has become synonymous with the boohoo Boutique line – tile patterns, stripped back shades and embellishments are highlights, alongside tailored jackets and feminine slip dresses.

Key products in the collection are pieced together by lace edge detailing, bead trims and waterfall ruffles, presenting ultimately opulent looks. Focal shapes include cropped co-ordinates, flared jumpsuits, and smock shirtdresses, all of which are designed in-house.

I AM…. Unique, Confident, Positive, Happy & Content. And You?

Kagi

Last week I had an eye-opening ‘a-ha’ moment!  I have to say that in attending the Kagi ‘I am’ jewellery launch Autumn/Winter 2014 Collection, held at the prestigious French Cafe, I never expected such an ‘a-ha moment’ to occur.  However in listening to both the inspiration behind Kat Gee’s new ‘I am’ collection and what drives her to create her amazing jewellery range, along with a presentation by life coach & motivational speaker Tracy Manu, I realised everything they both spoke about totally resonated with me.

Tracy Manu spoke of celebrating our uniqueness, living in the present, and that what you put out there, what you say to others, how you respond to others, is really ‘the you’ that you are creating and putting out there.  When someone says ‘how are you’ and you respond with ‘busy’, ‘chaotic’ or ‘stressed’, which lets face it, we all are, it’s also how you then continue your train of thought, being ‘busy and stressed’ is what you will continue to focus on.  Basically erasing negativity from your vocab can be all it takes to change your attitude and your way of thinking. I mean constantly verbalising negativity all the time, just cannot be healthy right?  This definitely resonated with me. I can find myself not even focussing on a movie I’m watching, or enjoying my surroundings on the weekend, because all I’m doing is thinking about what I have to get done, how busy I am, what’s stressing me out, and it’s generally because that’s the last thing I’ve said to someone, it’s the last thing I’ve verbalised and so that’s what has stayed in my mind – stress and chaos.   Tracy’s key points – be you, be present, appreciate what you have, what you’ve achieved, and above all – take some time out to reflect on all the positive and fabulous things that are right in front of you!  Surround yourself with beautiful things (this doesn’t have to mean extravagant things), but simple things like scented candles, beautiful blooms, things that make you feel good and make you smile! Appreciate the little things, maybe it’s as small as ticking one thing of your ‘to do’ list. There are so many things that I realise “I am” pretty damn happy about! That I’ve made it through hardships, I’ve made it through things I didn’t think I could get through, I’m proud of my achievements and I have great stuff going on around me all the time – sometimes I’ve just forgotten to see and absorb it.  So going forward, if you see me out and about and if you ask me how “I am”, call me on it if I respond with “busy or stressed’, cause actually, I’m doin pretty awesome!

Tracy Manu

Kat spoke of what inspires her and how she came to realise that the simplest of gestures can be all it takes to make a difference in someones elses life.  Her heartwarming story of a simple gesture, (of gifting a piece of her jewellery to someone going through an incredibly trying time) talked to not only reaching out to someone, in turn making them feel special, it also cemented that what she does, her passion (creating jewellery) is something she can be incredibly proud of, it makes a difference, and it’s what makes her the person she is today.

kagi

Kat Gee

So, I guess you can see where this is all going, it all summed up the new “I am” Kagi collection beautifully.

Kagi’s new ‘I am’ range is a bold, confident mix of capsule collections that extend upon Kagi’s bestsellers and introduce even more innovative designs.  ‘I am’ is in essence about empowering women every day to celebrate their own unique sense of self.

Kat states “I design Kagi to suit women and our busy lifestyle. Kagi is a multi- tasker that can easily be transformed to match any mood, moment or occasion. Jewellery is an outward expression of who you are and who you want to be, empowering women every day to celebrate their own unique sense of self, and allowing their personal style to shine”.

The new range boasts numerous capsule collections, scheduled for release over the coming months.
