Revealed – The New ‘ghd aura’

The New ghd aura Is Finally Revealed...

At last, I can finally talk about this amazing ghd hair tool that I’ve been using for the last few weeks – the new salon professional hair dryer, ghd aura.

Three weeks ago, ghd, the expert in heat styling, unveiled the latest revolutionary product innovation to join its award-winning collection, and I was one of the very first in New Zealand to be given the salon professional hair dryer to take home and use to my heart’s content. The challenge – I wasn’t able to talk about how fabulous this new ghd aura is until today!

The New ghd aura Is Finally Revealed...

It’s hard to imagine a hair dryer could make such a huge difference to an everyday hair routine and yet that’s exactly what the ghd aura has done – changed my hair care routine completely. Admittedly I’m an absolute rookie when it comes to styling my hair (yes, I’m completely dependent on my hair stylist, majority of the time) and I’ve never been able to create shiny, glossy hair solely through the process of drying, however this groundbreaking new generation hairdryer combines the power of drying and styling to give effortless styling control with ultimate volume and shine for all hair types. I’ve even stopped dreading the thought of having to blow dry my hair, as in the past this is something that would take me, at the very least, an hour (I have very long hair, and a lot of it) and after all that effort, the result hardly seemed worth wasting an hour of my time!  My hair routine, using the ghd aura is now a 20 minute task (at the most) and the result is super shiny, glossy, healthy looking hair that sees me through until my salon visit. I’m now telling anyone that will listen (especially those complaining of lack-lustre hair) that it’s all about the hair dryer they’re using; and no one in the industry has launched technology like that seen in the ghd aura, in over 50 years.

The New ghd aura Is Finally Revealed...

Developed exclusively by a team of styling specialists and scientists at the brand’s research and development facility in Cambridge, UK, ghd aura is the first tool to offer exceptional styling benefits whilst it dries, making it easier than ever to achieve salon results at home.

The New ghd aura Is Finally Revealed...

ghd has created two breakthrough patented technologies setting ghd aura light years ahead of its competition. Cool-Wall™ and Laminair™ technology allow the user to experience a concentrated airflow resulting in exceptional styling precision, control and the very best smooth and shiny finish.

The New ghd aura Is Finally Revealed...

What differentiates ghd aura?

  • Control – Groundbreaking, patented Laminair™ technology delivers a more concentrated, non-turbulent, evenly heated air stream allowing expert precision and control which results in effortless styling.
  • Shine – Laminair™ technology aligns hair in a single direction, creating a focused airflow with even speed and temperature, leaving it ultra-smooth and stunningly shiny.
  • Volume – Unique, patented Cool-Wall™ technology creates a ring of cool air around the hot air, keeping the casing and nozzle cool to touch even after prolonged use, so the user can get closer to the scalp for stunning volume and amazing root lift.
  • Quieter – The next generation brushless motor means ghd aura is smaller, lighter and quieter.

Economical – The separate power supply unit and ergonomic design features reduce the weight, making ghd aura light and extremely comfortable to hold during prolonged use.

Watch ghd’s video to find out how to create a high volume, glossy hair look using the new ghd aura…

ghd aura® will be available to purchase from approved ghd salons from late July 2014. For stockist information call 0800 880 209, RRP $300.

Take A Flight Of Fancy With ghd’s New ‘Bird of Paradise’ Collection

Take A Flight Of Fancy with ghd's new 'Bird of Paradise' Collection

Turning heads and ruffling feathers – ghd launches their new limited edition ‘Bird of Paradise’ collection…

ghd have transformed their V gold classic styler into a stunning new limited edition collection, aptly named Bird of Paradise.  This new range is available in two exotic combinations of vibrant hues and graduated colours. LAGOON features tropical turquoise & shimmering blues, merged with the most decadent emerald-green, while SUNSET features phosphorescent brights reminiscent of a perfect dusk skyline, with a ombre of rich velvety purple, merging into bright bold fuchsia, each with contrasting black plates, featuring advanced ceramic heat technology for enhanced shine and versatile styling.

Take A Flight Of Fancy with ghd's new 'Bird of Paradise' Collection

Inspired by the hottest tropical catwalk trends, the ghd V Lagoon & Sunset styler is the ultimate styler for fashion fabulous hair this season!  Each styler is packed with handy features – a rounded barrel to create curls, waves & flicks with ease, a professional-length cord to allow for flexible styling, automatic sleep mode after 30 minutes without use and universal voltage, so you can use your styler anywhere in the world. Plus, each Bird of Paradise styler comes complete with a coordinated heat-resistant mat and gift box too.

Take A Flight Of Fancy with ghd's new 'Bird of Paradise' Collection

When I first received my ghd ‘Lagoon’ styler I didn’t know whether to use it or frame it!  I mean yes, it’s stunning – like a piece of art (I don’t think I’ll ever tire of gazing at this magnificent colour combo – especially the glamorous greenness of it all) but what I wanted to know was, would there be any difference between my new Bird of Paradise styler and my old ghd styler?  Let’s just say I didn’t realise just how long I’d had my ghd’s.  Safe to say I have the OG of ghd’s. Heck I bought them when they first came on the market, and while they still work perfectly, ghd has clearly been very busy since their blueprint creation. The new styler glides through my hair even more seamlessly than the last.  The barrel is slightly more curved, so creating curls has become that much simpler to achieve and of course there’s the awesome heat resistant mat that compliments the colours of my new ghd styler!

Take A Flight Of Fancy with ghd's new 'Bird of Paradise' Collection

My sister would probably add that the best thing about me owning the new ghd Bird of Paradise Lagoon styler, is that she is now the proud owner of my long-time companion – the OG ghd!

Here’s to Kardashian curls and a sleek straight mane.

Pretty Up Your Ponytail (and be in to win)…

Twinky Ties, hair ties, beauty blog nz, fashion blog nz, style blog nz, beauty media nz, fashion media nz, angie fredatovich, gurlinterrupted

Donned by celebrities (Kylie & Kendall Jenner and Gwyneth Paltrow are big fans) these fabulous Twinky Tie hair ties are now available right here in NZ via the www.twinkyties.co.nz online store.

I’ll admit I’m a tad obsessed with these super-cute hair ties myself, not only as a fabulous means to the perfect pony tail, they also make for a chic accessory (no more ugly brown or black elastic hair ties digging into my wrist, cutting off circulation).

Twinky Ties, hair ties, beauty blog nz, fashion blog nz, style blog nz, beauty media nz, fashion media nz, angie fredatovich, gurlinterruptedThe only problem in the past, in regards to these stylish hair ties was the cost – sourcing them from overseas or purchasing them from accessories stores, the price was just a little too high for a hair tie.  Since being put in touch with Twinky Ties, based right here in New Zealand, they’re my new ‘go to’ for a fabulous array of coloured hair ties and hair bands, plus they have everything from glitter to chevron print hair ties, all of which are better than the ones I was previously paying more for (and they’ve kindly given me giveaway packs for you to win!!).  So check out their online store here: www.twinkyties.co.nz and visit them on Facebook: Twinky Ties to be kept in the loop on future specials and/or giveaways.  Speaking of giveaways….

Sorbet, Chocolate and Wonderbar delights…

Sorbet Sensational Solids, Sorbet, Haircare, Shampoo bars, Bon Bon, Beauty, Hair, beauty media nz, beauty blog nz, fashion blog nz, style blog nz, fashion media nz, freelance writer nz, journalist nz, angie fredatovich, gurlinterrupted.com

So recently I’ve discovered the delightful hair care range – Sorbet (I know right? Where have I been?) Those of you that have already tried something from the Sorbet Sensational Solids’ range will be fully aware of just how great these fabulous products are, BUT – did you know that they’ve now produced Bon Bon Bars? No? Well you simply must try them!  Who doesn’t want a chocolatey treat for their hair [she says whilst indulging in an edible chocolate bar ha ha].

Sorbet Sensational Solids, Sorbet, Haircare, Shampoo bars, Bon Bon, Beauty, Hair, beauty media nz, beauty blog nz, fashion blog nz, style blog nz, fashion media nz, freelance writer nz, journalist nz, angie fredatovich, gurlinterrupted.com

What’s the Bon Bon bar all about and what does it do?
Glad you asked! Other than looking & smelling like an actual chocolate bar (that appears to have been conjured straight from the imagination of Willie Wonker himself) it’s actually a Protein Treatment bar.  This chocolatey treat adds smoothness, shine and gloss to your hair, all without artificial colours, fragrances or any unsafe ingredients.  It smells absolutely divine and this is all due to the Organic Fairtrade Cocoa Butter that they’ve used to make this protein boosting bonanza.  It’s super easy to use – you simply snap off a square (I kinda cheated and used 2, look I have really long hair ok – don’t judge me, I swear it isn’t about greed) mix it with 1/3 cup of boiled water and let sit. After approximately 2 minutes, mix vigorously  until you get a smooth consistency and apply it to your hair (concentrate of length and tips).  You can leave it on your hair for anywhere between 1 – 8 hours. I’m impatient and have a-million-and-one things on the go at the moment, so I only left it on for an hour.  This was more than enough time for the Bon Bon bar to work it’s magic.  This is seriously good stuff and one bar will give you 8 treatments (unless you’re a little more indulgent like me, and use 2 at a time).

Sorbet Sensational Solids, Sorbet, Haircare, Shampoo bars, Bon Bon, Beauty, Hair, beauty media nz, beauty blog nz, fashion blog nz, style blog nz, fashion media nz, freelance writer nz, journalist nz, angie fredatovich, gurlinterrupted.com

Now for those of you that haven’t yet tried any Sorbet products, a couple of other amazing treats from the range (which I’ve also been recently using) – the Damage Control Solid Shampoo Bar (if you suffer from dry damaged hair and use heated hair tools a lot – this is the one for you!) which has a delicious peppermint candy cane scent, along with the Wonderbar Solid Conditioning Bar – a rich conditioner that invokes memories of long days at the beach with its buttery-vanilla & coconut scent.

Sorbet Sensational Solids, Sorbet, Haircare, Shampoo bars, Bon Bon, Beauty, Hair, beauty media nz, beauty blog nz, fashion blog nz, style blog nz, fashion media nz, freelance writer nz, journalist nz, angie fredatovich, gurlinterrupted.com

If that’s not enough to tempt you to pick up a Sorbet Sensational Solids bar – you should know that Sorbet is a company that is dedicated to creating environmentally friendly, packaging-free products. Their bars are wrapped in water-soluble paper – you simply take the whole lot in the shower and the wrapper will disappear, leaving your divine bar behind ready for use – how cool is that?! Plus their bars are biodegradable, paraben free, certified cruelty-free and, well – they smell amazing.  Sorbet (and their suppliers) have a ‘no animal testing’ policy in place (big tick from me!), contain NO animal ingredients whatsoever, are certified Climate Neutral and their products are locally made! If that doesn’t make them pretty darn special enough, they also donate monthly to both SAFE and WSPA.  Nice work Sorbet!!

Want to get your hands on some of these delightful sweet treats?  Head over to their website www.sorbetcosmetics.com and shop away to your heart’s content – without even having to leave the house.

Marilyn Monroe Is Brought Back To Life…

Marilyn Monroe, Sexy Hair, Fashion, Beauty, Hair, Famous, Marilyn Monroe Hair Ads, Sexy Hair Ad Campaign, fashion blog nz, beauty blog nz, style blog nz, angie fredatovich, nz pr, fashion media nz, beauty media nz

One of the world’s most iconic screen sirens may have died back in 1962, but did Marilyn Monroe ever really leave us?  Monroe was an American actress, model, and singer, who became a major sex symbol, starring in a number of commercially successful motion pictures during the 1950s and early 1960s.

Christened Norma Jeane Baker, Monroe  has always had a special place in my heart – I’ve read every book about her, watched all her movies and have always been infatuated with the haunting mystery that she held in her eyes.  Yes, she was a blonde bombshell and looked the picture of ‘Hollywood’ donning her famous red pout and billowing white dress, but every now and then a photograph would capture her sadness, and I found myself intrigued and wanting to know more about her and what or who it was that sadly cut her life short. If I could bring one person back for just a day to ask them all my unanswered questions – I would certainly choose Marilyn.

Well, I may not have all my questions answer, however, it would seem the brand ‘Sexy Hair’ is just as infatuated with the actress. Monroe appears in a new series of ads for Sexy Hair, which has billed the ad campaign with the tagline, “Styles Change. Sexy is Forever.”

For Miss Monroe, “forever” is certainly not too far from the truth. As reported in the Huffington Post “Sexy Hair licensed the rights to Monroe’s name, quotes and image from Authentic Brands Group, which owns all the rights to her estate, and will be launching an extensive campaign come October”.

And so the iconic actress once again makes headlines. Following in the footsteps of Vanity Fair – for which she has graced many a cover, Christian Dior  – who also harnessed the power of Monroe in the 2011 J’Adore Dior commercial starring Charlize Theron with a digitized Marilyn, Grace Kelly and Marlene Dietrich, Sexy Hair has also captured her timeless appeal.

So, what do you think of the new ads featuring Monroe?   Do you feel sad that she is selling hair product?  Or are you happy to see her star in her own campaign? Personally, as a huge Monroe fan, I think its fabulous and Miss M would be happy to still be winning leading roles in campaigns such as this…

Kurt Counsell of Mod’s Hair Salon – Ponsonby

Meet Kurt Counsell – The other man in my life.  Hairdresser extraordinaire based at ‘Mod’s Hair PARIS’ Salon on Ponsonby Rd.  For those that follow my blog, you will already be fully aware of just how much I adore Kurt and Mod’s Hair Salon’ AND, so that you too can experience just how fabulous Mod’s are – they have gifted me with an amazing GIVEAWAY for my followers valued at $400!!  Read on to find out more about Kurt, Mod’s Hair Salon and how you can WIN a fabulous hair and nail package for you and your bestie!!

Kurt, tell us a little about yourself, the road you travelled that bought you to being a hairdresser and why Mod’s in particular?
Many years ago, when I was a chef, a good friend of mine owned a hair salon. I would often whip up a fab lunch and take it over to her in the salon and spend most of my breaks with her. The more time I spent there, the more I realised I wanted to be ‘in the industry’. So I gradually immersed myself in the salon world by doing some general admin, answering phones, washing hair, etc. in her salon. Eventually she recommended I enrol myself on a hairdressing course. So that’s exactly what I did. Based in Christchurch, I was juggling my full-time hairdressing course, with 2 part-time jobs until, 9 months later, I came out at the other end ready to take on the world of hairdressing. I was offered a full-time role at a Christchurch salon and this is really where I got my grounding in hairdressing. I was so lucky to be based in that salon as I learnt and absorbed so much from those hairdressers. They were true old-school hairdressers, just an amazing talented team who taught me everything I needed to know to get a good solid understanding of hairdressing, things you could never learn solely from completing a hairdressing course, in fact I definitely learned more from hands-on experience. After the earthquakes hit, for obvious reasons I made the move to Auckland and hunted down Mod’s. I knew I wanted to work at Mod’s as I used to go to them in Christchurch to get my hair done by a friend that worked there. I was completely obsessed with the amazing techniques they used, of which I learnt were unique to French hairdressers and thus, it’s where I knew I wanted to be – at Mod’s!

How long have you been with Mod’s
2 years and I still absolutely love it.

What inspires you to come to work and do what you do every day?
I love hair so much – like I actually love what I do and I love surprising people with new and exciting concepts.  It’s not just the artistic creative side of it – it’s the scientific element that comes with hairdressing, you need that scientific understanding, mixed in with a whole lot of creative juice. I love beautiful natural looking hair and the people who do it best are the French (and of corse Mod’s).

Best brand in hair products?
Mod’s of course! We do our own Mod’s line of hair products, so obviously that’s my first brand of choice. The Mod’s range has something for everyone and contains a lot of natural ingredients. In particular, I’m a huge fan of Mod’s GINKO ENERGETICUM – it stimulates the blood flow to your scalp, which keeps the follicle healthy and in turn, promotes hair growth. Now if we are talking specifically ‘hair care’ brands, I would also have to say Kerastase is one of THE best hair care brands.

Number one ‘hair look’ when you don’t have long and want to create a great no fuss hairdo?
I love a topknot! Literally anyone can do it (well obviously not someone with a pixie-cut). I would always opt for a more casual topknot as opposed to the ‘tight ballet bun look’. To accomplish the ideal topknot I’d use a great ‘dust powder’, scoop all your hair up, without using a brush (this creates a more casual look), pop in a hair tie and create your knot. This is a beautiful effortless look. Finish with a red lip and killer heels and you’re good to go.

You have 10 seconds before you have to grab your keys and rush out the door – which hair product do you reach for?
L’Oreal Dust Powder! Reason being, I have fine flyaway hair. With L’Oreal Dust Powder, I can just brush it through and it stays in place all day – no build-up of product and no irritants, which I find when using other dust powders.

You’re a very fashion-forward guy (if I was a guy I’d totally dress like you) – where do you draw your fashion inspiration from?
I love wearing black! Black is the new black as far as I’m concerned. In saying that, I also love statement pieces. Whether it’s a bow tie or necklace; anything different and quirky equals the perfect statement piece. I’ll take snippets from everywhere – I might see something on someone and think “yeah I like that look, but I’d change it up slightly by putting my own twist on it”. I love vintage mixed with street style, and comfort is essential! In this industry you can’t afford to get it wrong, comfort is key and I’ve worn fashion over comfort before – never again!

You’ve built up such a strong following and Mod’s has such a great reputation. What do you think it is that Mod’s does differently to accomplish this?
Mod’s French heritage. French techniques that other hairdressers just don’t know, nor do. We are the kings of balayage!

I’m going on a ‘vacay’ and have to pack light – what are the ‘must haves’ that you would recommend I take with me? (I need lots of room for shoes, so space is limited).
It’s key you are using salon quality shampoo or conditioner – whether you plan to leave your hair down or need to style it, above all else, salon quality Shampoo & Conditioner is most important, so I would say ensure you pack these.  Well, maybe just pop in one styling product containing UV protectant.

Now I know you have a manicurist on site – what’s her background?
We have the amazing and talented Debbie of Dolls House Nails. Debbie is fun, quirky and incredibly skilled in nail design. She has been in the industry for 27 years and has built up quite a following!

OK – so you’re called Mod’s hair PARIS – do any of your stylists actually get to go to Paris and train there?
YES! We get the opportunity to go the training school in Paris and it’s definitely on my to do list very soon!

To summarise – a perfect day on the job is…..
Blow waves, blow waves, blow waves!

Last time I was in the salon and we were talking about new features for my blog, you came up with a brilliant idea – a spin on the ever popular ‘what’s in my handbag’, you suggested featuring ‘what’s in my manbag’.  I love it, so, “Kurt – what’s in your manbag?”
Ok – well, I actually don’t carry around a lot at all!  But I do love my manbag.  I found this leather satchel bag in an opshop for $30. I’ve swapped out the strap on it (gotta add my own style) and it’s now perfect!  What’s in my manbag…

  • PLAY by Givenchy
  • L’Oreal Super Dust
  • Chapstick
  • PUMP mini
  • Phone (an obvious essential)

And just one other quick question – what are your 2 favourite apps on your phone?
Camera 360 and the Gameboy app (Pokémon is a rediscovered childhood addiction)

What a FABULOSO evening last night at the ‘Razzle Dazzle & Sequins’ evo event, held at Studio Luminere in Parnell.

If you’ve not yet heard of evo, you are missing out on pretty much THE coolest and BEST range of hair products!

When I received the invite to the evo event I was elated because I’ve actually been using evo products for a couple of months now – The Great Hydrator Moisture Mask and Shampoo & Conditioner will change your life – they are beyond amazing!! As for their marketing, well, it’s second to none. It’s to the point, no gimmicks and just tells it like it is (in a very smart and sassy way).

Check out some of my photos from last night’s event, some very cool marketing; and proof that I have ZERO willpower…

OK – this is creepy, yet somehow intriguing. A skull made of hair, gifted to Leonard by locals.

The evo range is distributed exclusively through the very best New Zealand salons and is found wherever good hairdressers are stocked.  Phone 0800 25 25 30 for your nearest stockist.

INDUSTRY NZ – Where Hair & Fashion Collide

Industry Hair NZ

On Saturday night I had the pleasure of attending INDUSTRY NZ – where hair and fashion collide.

Star hairstylists, salons and brands joined forces to recreate the latest looks straight from New York Fashion Week, held at the Pullman, Auckland.

International Talent Rodney Cutler from Cutler Salon NYC – Sponsored by Redken 5th Avenue NYC, was INDUSTRY 2013’s international guest, following on the heels of the 2012 event’s VIP Snowden Hill. Rodney and his team worked on some 30 shows each at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week – New York, for the likes of Cynthia Rowley, Badgely Mishka and Tadashi. The latest looks from MBFW – New York (Feb 2013) were showcased by the Rodney Cutler team on the main stage at INDUSTRY.

Drinks & canapes, a live band, models rocking out with their own instruments on stage, fabulous fashion and on-screen cinematography that absolutely ‘made the show’.  Here are some of my highlights from the event…

Glassons – Upsizing Your Combo!

I love Glassons (The House of G/Glambezi/Coco Avant Glassons) at the best of times.  I mean they have amazing on-trend and totally affordable fashion and quite honestly, their gear is so good that most of the time there really is no need to spend hundreds of dollars on an item that is exactly the same at Glassons for half the price.  Yes, I love my ‘high street’ labels as much as the next person and yes – I buy these too, but when it comes to real ‘on-trend’ pieces, that are only going to be around for 1 season, I’m definitely going to head to The House of G!

It wasn’t until this morning, whilst deciding what to wear to a Hair & Beauty Media Launch, that I realised just how obsessive I’ve become with Glassons; and in particular their patterned, neon and floral pants!  This is what I found when I opened my wardrobe – the realisation that I am truly OCD for the House of G.

My justification………  Each of these cost me between $20 – $50.  Such a bargain!!  Sure, the whole point in not spending so much money is that you’re saving right?  Well, I tend to look at it like ‘up-sizing my combo’.  If a pair of pants that I love is only $29 and there are several other pairs that I’m also lusting over, you bet your Aston Martin I’m gonna grab another pair.  I then go down the path of ‘well if I were in any other store each pair would be about $100 and I can get like 3 pairs at Glassons for that’!  So thanks House of G, youre feeding my OCD, upsizing my combo; and I’M LOVIN IT!!

You can get most of these bad boys in-store now, or online (with free shipping!!) by clicking on the attached link: http://www.glassons.com/

Enjoy your fashion meal deal at Glassons!
