MAC Cosmetics Flamingo Park

MAC Cosmetics Flamingo Park

If you’re not into a plethora of pinks, bold magentas, and delightful peaches, then look away [wallflowers need not apply] because this is not a collection for the minimalist. The girliest colour in the universe takes centre stage in this beautiful new MAC collection – Flamingo Park.

MAC Cosmetics Flamingo Park

With candy pink lipsticks, rosey blushes, fuchsia eyeshadows and nail varnishes that let you have your cake and wear it too, this sweet palette will make you want to throw on a sundress, grab a picnic and flock to the park like a flamboyance of flamingos. We’re twirling our dresses in delight over this wonderful, bright collection…

MAC Cosmetics Flamingo Park

There’s a nine-color eyeshadow pallete with shades that range from hot magenta to a ‘Floridazzle’ – a soft lime green, which we absolutely adore. There are three pigments and two pink nail lacquers. Nine lipstick hues (all  varying shades of pink), three lip liners and five Cremesheen lip glosses.

MAC Cosmetics Flamingo Park

As for blush, there are seven different options, from baby pink to apricot, and coral to hot pink. It also comes with a brush, two eyeliners and two mascaras.

MAC Cosmetics Flamingo Park

Yes, it’s a LOT of pink, and while we might not encourage you to wear it all at once, we absolutely do encourage wearing your ‘just desserts’, get your girly on and flaunt your flamingo.

MAC Cosmetics – Wash & Dry Collection

MAC Cosmetics - Wash & Dry Collection

It’s full steam ahead as the M·A·C Wash & Dry Laundromat opens for business, so make a date with good, clean fun.  The suds are rising and the gossip is flowing with this breezy bronzing collection inspired by bright, fresh hues perfect for a full spin or just a quick tumble. All in super-sleek packaging to set your cycle to chic!

MAC Cosmetics - Wash & Dry Collection
Yes, it’s a new limited collection from MAC! Yes, it’s amazing! Yes, I’m once again giddy with excitement, as I am about everything MAC releases. But what’s so special about this collection? What are the standouts, I hear you say. Well, thanks for asking; you know when it comes to MAC, I’m only too happy to answer…

Firstly, let me just make mention of the fabulous sleek packaging; as with MAC’s Alluring Aquatics Collection (yes, still swooning) this is one for my fellow ‘MAC collectors’!  Bright, fun and colourful, during these cooler months here in New Zealand, we’ll forever be reminded of the warm weather with this summer-inspired packaging.

MAC Cosmetics - Wash & Dry Collection
While there’s no one particular item I don’t love in this collection, my absolute standouts are:

MAC Freshen Up Highlight Powder – although MAC Freshen Up is defined as a highlighter powder, it is also a blush with three shades. I adore this colour combination. It’s multi-purpose, soft, shimmery and borderline ethereal. The powder is finely milled, it’s not powdery nor stiff; and if you’re in the market for a customisable, super-pretty blush & highlighter, Freshen Up is something you shouldn’t miss from MAC’s Wash & Dry Collection.

Morange Lipstick – a vivid orange-red with an amplified finish. There is something about this colour with the gorgeous limited edition packaging. I wore this one today, applied one coat and blotted to apply again. Boom, lipstick sorted for all-day wear! It’s very long-lasting and I could wear it without a liner. There’s also no drying or flaking – bonus! Morange wears beautifully with the Freshen Up Highlight Powder. I do love that MAC thinks about their collections in-depth; every collection works together seamlessly.

Veluxe Pearlfusion Shadow Trio – I’m sorry, I can’t tell you which is best, these are all just too damn perfect to choose one trio. Ok, if I have to say one, I guess I’ll say Warm Wash (only because that’s what I’m wearing today) but honestly, they’re all amazing, they’re all MAC perfection, they’re all pure luxury!

Check out the collection here and get ready to head in-store the moment the collection releases to ensure you don’t miss out. For kiwis, this limited collection drops 1 June 2015…

Hats Off To The MAC x Philip Treacy Collaboration…

Hats Off To The MAC x Philip Treacy Collaboration...

The recent announcement of the collaboration between MAC and Philip Treacy, once again, as MAC always does, captured our attention and drew many-a-delight at such a wonderful, artistic collab…

Hats Off To The MAC x Philip Treacy Collaboration...

MAC plays perfectly on artistic contrasts, inviting singers, fashion designers and now, milliners to collaborate . Texture, colour, packaging, nothing escapes the MAC creativity wheel, of which is constantly spinning. MAC x Philip Treacy represents a unique partnership – London’s leading couture hat designer collaborating with the world’s boldest makeup brand.

Irish-born milliner Philip Treacy has made hats for pretty much every famous head you can think of: Kate Middleton, Lady Gaga, Madonna, Sarah Jessica Parker, Victoria Beckham. (Fun fact: He also made that famous hat Princess Beatrice wore to the Royal Wedding—the one that launched a thousand memes.) Shortly after the Royal Wedding, in fact, M.A.C approached Treacy about doing a cosmetics collection. Now, almost four years later, the fruits of that collaboration are available in the form of three bright lipsticks, two beautiful fairy dust embossed blushes, three eye liners that would make a peacock jealous, and two shimmery metallic shadows. The collection was inspired by–what else?–three different yet equally stunning hats Treacy created.

Available on counter now, check out the beautiful MAC x Philip Treacy collection…

M.A.C Technique Seminar + WIN One Of Two MAC Makeup Lessons Valued At $150 Each…

WIN, NZ Competition, MAC, MAC Cosmetics NZ, Makeup, NZFW, New Zealand Fashion Week, MAC Technique Seminar, NZFW, Fashion media nz, beauty media nz, beauty blog nz, style blog nz, fashion blog nz, Gurlinterrupted, Angie Fredatovich

To wrap up New Zealand Fashion Week we headed along to the MAC Technique Seminar on the weekend.  A fabulous event where we were shown how to create two different looks by M.A.C Makeup Artists – Olivia and Kiki.

Olivia created a beautiful dramatic eye and nude lip on Ella Corbin, whilst Kiki focussed on a dark lip and flawless fresh face on model Aislinn Faulkner. As Olivia and Kiki showed us how to create these two very different looks, they also shared with us their favourite MAC Cosmetics items that they wouldn’t be without, as well as sharing a couple of insider tips.

In making over N Model Management’s Ella and Aislinn, both makeup artists used their ultimate MAC beauty items – Prep + Prime, Fast Response Eye Creme, Lip Conditioner, MAC Concealer Palette; and of course the infamous MAC 239 & 217 Makeup Brushes.

A great tip that the girls shared with us was how to create a flawless liner along your lash-line/eyelid.  Many of us are guilty of, when trying to create a beautiful cat-eye-line, looking straight at the mirror or tilting the head down slightly and applying the liner. Or worse still. pulling the eyelid taut to try to achieve a smooth application.  What Olivia and Kiki told us was that if you do either of these things the lashes actually contract, which in turn creates an imperfect and wavy line.  To avoid this, and instead create the perfect lashliner look, tilt your chin up and then apply the fluid liner – viola! A totally different perspective, of which creates the perfect line.

But hey, why talk you through all the fabulous MAC products and further tips & tricks when you could find out first hand for yourself…

What’s On My Beauty Counter Right Now…

With the weather taking a turn for the worse yesterday, I didn’t feel so bad about staying indoors, lighting a fire to get the house all warm and cosy, and indulging in my guilty pleasure – pouring over the latest products that have arrived on my beauty counter over the last couple of weeks, and picking a select few that have definitely ‘caught my eye’ as being ‘brilliant beauty standouts’ to share with you…

Trilogy Nutrient Plus Firming Serum
This one arrived on my desk a couple of weeks ago and I’m unsure why I didn’t open it the moment it arrived because since I have started using it, it’s become a bit of a favourite in my beauty routine (well actually I do know why, I was still trialling another product and wanted to complete the trial before starting a new one).  It’s said to instantly firm, lift and refresh with hydaluronic acid, licorice and mulberry.  This has a really lovely light gel consistency, with a clean, fresh scent. It’s a beautiful pick-me-up that my skin has been absolutely drinking in. I’ve been using this for several days now (morning and night) and my skin feels and looks brighter and smoother.

Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturising Lotion
This is the product I was trialling prior to starting on the abovementioned serum. Seriously amazing stuff this newly relaunched Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturising Lotion.  There’s no scent whatsoever, which is totally fine with me and it’s allergy tested (for those of you with sensitive skin – this will be good news!).  I have fallen in love with this new moisturiser from Clinique and will be heading out to purchase another tube!  Super hydrating, sans the oily residue that other lotions tend to have and my skin just absolutely lapped it up.  This combined with the trilogy serum actually makes the perfect hydrating combo!

butter LONDON – The Sweetie Shop Lacquer Collection
New from butter LONDON – the aptly named Sweetie Shop collection is absolutely stunning!  A candy coating for your nails – this new range includes all the beautiful hues of Spring.  This pretty and playful palette took inspiration from the charming colours and silhouette of the 50’s.  The collection captures the soft pastel shades of cotton candy, milkshakes and macaroons which speak to a playful feminine edge. A brilliant sherbet, luxe lemon, peppy violet are paired with an icy mint, a rich candy pink and a creamy khaki for a statement that’s sweet but chic.  I’m currently donning Fiver (the icy mint creme colour) as well as Molly-Coddled (an opaque lavender orchid creme).  Another absolutely stunning collection from butter LONDON, which in my opinion, is the best nail polish brand on the market.

BITE BEAUTY – Whipped Cherry Lip Scrub
If you are a regular reader of my blog you will already know all about the BITE BEAUTY range of lipsticks and glosses!  For those of you that are new to my blog you can read the original post by clicking the jump to my BITE BEAUTY writeup HERE. Whilst a fabulous bright lip or glossy nude can look amazing, there’s really nothing worse than applying your lippie over chapped, dull and dehydrated lips.  Firstly, it really isn’t a good look, and second – it doesn’t feel very nice either.  I’ve been conditioning my lips with BITE’s new lip scrub lately and I have to say – it’s pretty fabulous! It’s designed to exfoliate and condition lips and it’s delicious enough to eat.  100% natural, BITE fruit scrub is enriched with antioxidants, cherry fruit acids and rice bran, whilst Jojoba and Vitamin C provide a soothing effect.  The BITE lip scrub has a beautiful mousse-like consistency that leaves your lips looking polished and kissable!  Fairly certain this would last a lot longer if I stopped applying it, solely to eat it!

Karen Murrell Lipstick – Sandstorm
The latest to arrive on my beauty counter from Karen Murrell is lipstick in the shade ‘Sandstorm’.  This is the perfect everyday creamy nude that, like all Karen Murrell lipsticks, contains all natural ingredients, nourishes lips and looks and smells great!  I’m quite the fan of Karen Murrell lippies and Sandstorm doesn’t disappoint. A fab everyday lipstick that applies like a dream and stays put for hours!

TOCCA – Stella
OK, so if I’m being honest – this isn’t a new find.  It’s actually my favourite perfume in the entire universe (yup – I went with universe because it’s THAT amazing!  I used to purchase my ‘Stella by TOCCA’ from WORLD Beauty, however they pretty much ruined my life when they decided they would no longer be stocking the TOCCA line!  Thus I went in and bought up the last 2 bottles they had and have since just tried to make it last as long as possible. It takes pride of place on my beauty counter (and I have a LOT of perfumes! Some call it an addiction, I like to call it ‘collecting’) and there is no other that can take the place of Stella.  Whilst I love many perfumes, and do mix things up now and then (I love Taylor Swift and Gucci Guilty), not unlike my palette, which is that of a 10-year-old, I prefer sweet scents, just as I prefer sweet food over savoury, and Stella fits the bill perfectly. Stella is infused with the sweet, fresh scent of Blood Orange, along with notes of  Watery Accord, White Freesia, Wild Diamond Orchids, Spicy Lily, Sheer Musk and Sandalwood. This is my last bottle, but I just can’t stop wearing it and until I find another stockist (hint hint – if you know of a stockist please comment below and let me know where I can get more) I will continue to spritz this ‘nectar of the gods’ as sparingly as possible.  The handmade heavy italian glass and brass embossed lid Stella is encased in, is alone worth a mention!  Anyway, its ALWAYS on my beauty counter, so it only seemed right that it made it into this feature.

Beauty Babe On A Budget – I’ve Got Your Beauty Product Dupes Sorted!

Beauty, Makeup, Dupes, Australis, cosmetics, Australis, MAC, Bobbi Brown, Za Cosmetics, Urban Decay, Maybelline, beauty blog nz, fashion blog nz, style blog nz, beauty media nz, fashion media nz, angie fredatovich, gurlinterrupted.com

So I was thinking about this on the weekend after a couple of friends kindly pointed out that I could potentially ‘end world hunger’ if all my makeup was converted into dollars’.  Personally I think this is a slight exaggeration and I did try to justify my beauty addiction by stating that ‘not ALL my makeup products are high-end brands’. Yes, a lot of them are (slight MAC obsessed, I’ll admit), but I also have a tonne of makeup that isn’t ‘high-end’ and they’re great!

I’m pretty sure any makeup artist will confirm that the day we’re told we’ve qualified, is the day we tend to go a little beauty-product-crazy, filling our makeup kits with every single item we were ever shown how to use (this is NOT good when you trained using MAC – cha ching!).  I don’t even do makeup artistry as my chosen profession (no friends – your events do not qualify as my full-time job) and yet still I keep my kit jam-packed with all the latest beauty goodies and add to this kit almost weekly.  However, following the ‘end world poverty’ comment – I  went through my beauty closet and showed them all the duplicates (dupes) I own that most people wouldn’t even realise is a dupe for a high-end brand; and these more wallet-friendly brands are just as good.  You just gotta know what to look for.  So I’ve collated a few dupes that I use, which I thought [see: hope] you might find useful to…

Cheek Highlighters/Face Illuminators: $20 Australis vs $50 Benefit
This is one of my new faves at the moment – the Australis ‘High Lights’ face highlighter.  Now this one is seriously JUST like the highly coveted Benefit High Beam & Girl Meets Pearl (it also gives the same payoff as MAC’s Extra Dimension face illuminator).  The consistency is exactly like High Beam and is simply stunning, sans the stunning price tag. If you love that blown-out, cheek-poppin, radiant makeup look – you will love an illuminating product and I personally think that this Australis Face Highlighter is as good as any other face highlighter on the market.

Beauty, Makeup, Dupes, Australis, cosmetics, Australis, MAC, Bobbi Brown, Za Cosmetics, Urban Decay, Maybelline, beauty blog nz, fashion blog nz, style blog nz, beauty media nz, fashion media nz, angie fredatovich, gurlinterrupted.com

Lip Gloss/Lipstick: $16 Za Cosmetics vs $31 Bobbi Brown
The Bobbi Brown lip gloss in ‘Pretty In Pink’ is a fabulous gloss that suits pretty much everyone, so of course it’s popular and in-turn has a price-tag that matches it’s popularity. The thing with gloss is that you tend to go through it pretty darn fast and this can make things quite expensive.  The Za ‘Plumper Lips’ Lipstick in ‘Pink Pearl’ is the perfect dupe for Bobbi Brown’s Pretty In Pink gloss!  It’s the same hue, consistency and wearability.  It even has the added benefit of a plumper, so you’ll have fabulous kissable lips.

Beauty, Makeup, Dupes, Australis, cosmetics, Australis, MAC, Bobbi Brown, Za Cosmetics, Urban Decay, Maybelline, beauty blog nz, fashion blog nz, style blog nz, beauty media nz, fashion media nz, angie fredatovich, gurlinterrupted.com

Eye Liner Pencil: $10 Australis vs $36 MAC
Now I love MAC eye liners (especially their eye kohl’s) as much as the next person (and admittedly probably own way too many of them) however if you are wanting to buy a variety of hues, this is going cost you some serious bucks. At $36 dollars a pop – it adds up really fast.  The Australis 10-hour-wear eye pencils are fabulous! They’re long wearing, have a beautiful kohl consistency and wont break the bank if you are wanting to buy a variety of colours.  The one that I use regularly is the Bombastic Bronze (I prefer a brown liner, as I think black liners tend to look a little too heavy during the day).  This is a fab dupe for MAC’s two most beautiful brown eye pencils – Lord It Up & Powerchrome.

Beauty, Makeup, Dupes, Australis, cosmetics, Australis, MAC, Bobbi Brown, Za Cosmetics, Urban Decay, Maybelline, beauty blog nz, fashion blog nz, style blog nz, beauty media nz, fashion media nz, angie fredatovich, gurlinterrupted.com

Liquid Eye Liner: $10 Maybelline vs $45 Urban Decay
The Urban Decay 24/7 Liquid Liner in ‘Perversion’ (black) is another makeup product favoured by beauty gurus worldwide and has quite the cult following.  The reason for this is (other than Urban Decay being a fabulous makeup brand) it’s easy to apply, has a great applicator, it lasts ALL DAY and there’s no peeling, cracking or fading! (plus it dries with a glossy finish which I love).  The Maybelline Line Stiletto in ‘blackest black’ would be the best dupe for UD’s 24/7 liquid liner that I’ve ever come across.  Same long-wear durability, a great applicator, has a beautiful finish and again – there’s no cracking, peeling or fading.

Beauty, Makeup, Dupes, Australis, cosmetics, Australis, MAC, Bobbi Brown, Za Cosmetics, Urban Decay, Maybelline, beauty blog nz, fashion blog nz, style blog nz, beauty media nz, fashion media nz, angie fredatovich, gurlinterrupted.com

Concealer: $10 Za vs $40 MAC
MAC Select Cover Concealer in my opinion is one of MAC’s best concealers.  The reason for it’s popularity is it’s light in consistency, yet gives great coverage. It doesn’t cake in creases, can be matched to a broad range of skin tones and I find it’s super hydrating.  It is however, a small pottle and if you use concealer to cover and lighten more than just under your eyes, you can go through it pretty fast.  I’ve looked at a few wallet-friendly dupes over the years and this Za ”Perfect Fit’ concealer would be the closest thing to MAC’s Select Cover that I’ve found.  It has all the great qualities of the MAC Select Cover Concealer for a fraction of the price.

Makeup Brushes: $10 – $40 per brush SIGMA vs $60 – $100 per brush MAC
Ahh Makeup Brushes – this is a big one to tackle.  Makeup brushes are a beauty babe essential and it really is a case of quality above all else.  Poor quality makeup brushes equal poor makeup application and a lot of fallout (not just the product – but the actual bristles). Makeup brushes determine how every piece of makeup performs. They determine the colour payoff of your eyeshadow. They are the difference between a flawless foundation application that looks so good it could’ve been photoshopped, versus a ‘cakey’ application. They are THE key tool in your makeup bag. As I said previously, I went was taught makeup artistry using MAC products and MAC will always have a special place in my heart, however their prices for brushes are pretty darned expensive.  Ahhh but they are GOOD! [stop it Ange!].  Sorry, as I was saying…  To get one decent kit with a good variety of brushes, you are talking some SERIOUS coin!  For the last few years I have become obsessed with Sigma brushes (and I think makeup artists worldwide are now tending to lean towards a mix of both MAC and Sigma brushes). They are the same quality as MAC and are actually pretty affordable when you’re talking makeup brushes.  For the cost of an entire Sigma brush set I paid $230.  You don’t want to know what I paid for my first entire set of MAC brushes!  Let’s just say that for the cost of a whole set of sigma brushes, you’d get about 4 MAC brushes.  Don’t get me wrong, there will always be the iconic faves that MAC produces – the MAC 217 for example, but in actual fact the Sigma E40 and E55 are just as amazing! For me they have gone past the point of ‘dupes’ and are a staple in my makeup kit.  I have a Sigma Members Discount Code, so if you’re planning on giving Sigma a go, feel free to grab my 10% discount code from my blog homepage (the square banner situated on the right hand-side) or use the jump here: SIGMA BRUSHES.  Now I’m not saying ‘you must buy a whole set of brushes or your makeup world is forever doomed’, I’m definitely not suggesting that at all. We’re just talking dupes and I personally think Sigma is the ultimate in makeup brush dupes when it comes to a more affordable alternative to the pricier brands.  In reality, if you’re just starting out, or only dabble in makeup, all you really need is a great shader, a decent foundation and blush brush and you’re good to go.  There’s no reason to go all out with a whole set of professional brushes, just grab your basics and build on your brush collection as your confidence with makeup grows.

If you’d like to see more posts like this one – specifically on eyeshadow palette dupes, foundation dupes, or just more dupes in general, let me know by leaving a comment below and I’ll get started on the next installment of ‘Beauty Babe On A Budget’.

And before you go dissing ‘wallet-friendly’ makeup brands, BEWARE!  You don’t want to end up with egg on your face by saying ‘they aren’t as good as high-end brands’, because without letting any insider secrets slip, you’d be amazed at just how many ‘budget brands’ are actually produced by the exact same brands producing your high-end expensive makeup.

Given everything MAC Makeup Artist Amber D creates is ‘artistic genius’, I can’t wait to see what creations she comes up with using this collection!

Now, as you know – I could literally spend hours writing about ‘all things beauty’ and there really are so many more images (full size of each and every product) that I could show you, however I know not everyone wants ‘the long version’.  So, if you’d like to see more images (or maybe just a close-up of one product in particular), let me know in the comment box below and I’d be happy to drop in some more images.

Available in-store from 6 May 2013.

Stand Out In Glassons…

Stand Out Glassons

Models walked a petal-strewn runway at the Coatesville Rose Factory this week to showcase Glassons’ first ever runway preview show ‘Stand Out Glassons’.

Guests arrived by coach and were greeted by the delightful treats of caterers Little and Friday.  Soon after arriving, models rocked the runway to live music – an amalgamation of muso’s brought together by Zara Mirkin. Including members of The Rackets, The Checks and other musical geniuses.

Glassons new Creative Director Adam Bryce certainly made his mark with his forward thinking, aptly named new Glassons campaign – STAND OUT GLASSONS!!

The ‘stand out’ campaign stories presented were Sheer Romance, Off Duty, Rustic Wanderlust and Wild Flower.  Key themes that shone through for Autumn/Winter 2013 – varsity & faux leather jackets, ample denim, lace dresses, anoraks and flannelette check shirts.

Check out the photo highlights from the ‘Stand Out’ Glassons Preview Runway Show event…

Catch A Falling Star – Makeup Tutorial On How To Stop Glitter Fallout

I love glittery eye make-up – I DON’T LOVE THE GLITTER FALLOUT!!  This little trick will allow you to remove the glitter fallout effectively, in less than a minute AND without ruining the rest of your makeup.

OK – see the small sparkly fallout, just under my eye? (in the top left corner picture) – this is what we are going to remove (and if you have more glitter fallout on your cheeks, you can remove this too by following these steps).

Tear off a piece of Scotch Tape or Removable Tape and wrap it around the tip of your finger with the sticky side facing out.

Firmly press the tape onto any fallen glitter and simply lift it off

Voila!  No Glitter Fallout!!

Should you feel you need to – you can touch up any foundation that may have lifted off with the tape.  For the sake of this tutorial I didn’t bother with foundation, however I feel confident the tape shouldn’t disturb your makeup too much at all, as it’s not ever ruined my foundation in the past.

Glitter kisses xx

Best In Beauty – My Favourite Beauty Products of 2012…

Given it’s the 1st day of 2013 I thought it appropriate to post an article on my favourite beauty picks of 2012.  This is in no way a definitive list of all of the products I use (I do love trying as many new products as possible, so as you can imagine, I could be here forever writing about everything), these are simply my top picks for 2012.  No doubt 2013 will bring many new products and many new lines from my favourite brands so I will have many more to blog about throughout the year, with my yearly ‘Best Beauty Products’ posted again on the 1 of January 2014.

I’ll kick things off with eye makeup as this is admittedly kind of large.  Being a qualified make-up artist this was bound to happen, so forgive the large amount I have in this category…

BEST IN BEAUTY – EYE MAKEUP

  1. Urban Decay – NAKED Palette
  2. Bobbi Brown – Shimmer Brick (this can be used on the whole face but I used mine mainly on my eyes)
  3. MAC – Brow Pencil in Stud (if they ever discontinue this I may actually cry)
  4. MAC – Eye Kohl Liner in Powersurge
  5. Maybelline – Colour Tattoo 24 hour eyeshadow (I would have loved to buy all the colours in this line as it is a truly superb long lasting eyeshadow, alas I only bought 2 and my favourite is Taupe)
  6. MAC – Paint Pots in Morning Frost and Groundwork (great worn alone or as an eyeshadow primer
  7. MAC – Fluidline in Blacktrack.  Thus far, the best black gel liner I’ve ever used
  8. MAC – Eyeshadows (don’t worry, I didn’t choose all the eyeshadows pictured here, just the ones shown most prominently).  Mineralize Pink Split, All That Glitters, Contrast, Jaunty (Hey Sailor collection), Bows & Curtseys, Coppering, A Natural Flirt (Glamour Daze collection).
  9. Urban Decay – 24/7 Waterproof Liquid Liner in Demolition and Perversion
  10. Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencil in Bourbon
  11. Stila – Light Up The World Eyeshadow Palette
  12. Mascara.  I’m a mascara junkie so I really do try as many as possible throughout the year.  My top 4 for 2012 are: Benefit – They’re Real! (LOVING this so much – I know it’s huge overseas and I can see why), Maybelline – Falsies, L’Oreal – Millions, Revlon – Grow Luscious

BEST IN BEAUTY – LIPS

I’m sure you will see from the above picture, I’m not big on lipsticks.  Yes I do like them, in fact I love the beautiful nearly nude colours however I am a HUGE fan of lip glosses, so obviously these are my favourite picks for 2012…

  1. MAC – Lipliner in Boldly Bare
  2. MAC – Cremesheen Lipstick in Shy Girl
  3. MAC – Lipsticks in Beauty and Fresh Brew
  4. Clarins – Instant Light Lip Perfector (this is a fabulous lipgloss!  When first applied it’s a slightly scary barbie pink, but within 1 minute it magically turns into the most natural light reflecting gloss I’ve every used)
  5. Witchery – Nude Gloss
  6. Lucas’ PaPaw – Lip balm (this deserved a mention as it is probably the most used of them all even though it really doesn’t count as a ‘lipstick/gloss’ as such
  7. Kiehls – Tinted Lip Balm
  8. MAC – Hey Sailor Lip Balm (I think this is my favourite combination of gloss & balm – LOVE!!)
  9. MAC – Cremesheen Gloss in Boy Bait (why oh why did you discontinue this MAC!!)
  10. MAC – Dazzleglass in Phiff! (Marilyn Collection) and Glitter and Ice
  11. MAC – Lipglass in Impossibly Sweet

BEST IN BEAUTY – FACE (foundations/Primers/highlighters etc)

  1. Garnier BB Cream – My summer ‘go to’ as I tend not to wear foundation during summer unless it’s an evening event/special occasion.
  2. Bobbi Brown BB Cream – I only recently discovered this BB Cream but already I love it!!  I would have liked to have tried the MAC BB Cream but alas they don’t seem to stock a BB Cream for those of us with olive skin *sad face*
  3. Foundations: MAC – Face & Body, MAC – Matchmaster, Maybelline – FIT Me!, Laura Mercier – Silk Creme Foundation (BTW, Laura Mercier Foundation – AMAZING!!)
  4. MAC – Blot Powder
  5. L’Oreal – Lumi Magique Base Primer
  6. Benefit – The POREfessional (this baby is amazing!!!!  The best product for minimising fine lines and pores that I’ve ever come across, EVER!!  Seriously, if you can get your hands on this – BUY IT)
  7. Smashbox – Photofinish Foundation Primer
  8. Urban Decay – Eyeshadow Primer Potion (don’t even bother applying eyeshadow unless you’ve applied this first.  No creasing whatsoever.  It will have your eyeshadow staying in place all day and night, no matter the temperature!!)
  9. Smashbox – Halo Highlighting Wand
  10. L’Oreal Lumi Magique Highlighting Pen
  11. MAC – Cover-up Concealer
  12. MAC – Pro Longwear Bronzing Powder
  13. MAC – Mineralize Skin Finish in Soft & Gentle
  14. MAC – Extra Dimension Skin Finish in Superb (This from the Glamour Daze range is by far the standout for cheek illumination/highlighting.  In fact the entire line from the Glamour Daze collection is simply to die!)
  15. MAC – Blush in Pressed Amber (this is my ‘go to’ blush as its so natural in looking)
  16. MAC – Cream Colour Base in Hush

BEST IN BEAUTY – MAKEUP BRUSHES

  1. Sigma – Makeup Me Classy Set (in leather case).  For me, Sigma Makeup Brushes are my NUMBER 1 when it comes to brushes.  They are absolutely amazing and quite honestly are as good as any other well know brand at half the cost.  You can purchase Sigma brushes in smaller sets or even just buy a single brush.  The Make Me Classy Set has all the main brushes and comes in this fab case that breaks apart to become brush holders (perfect for travel).  If you do want to purchase Sigma makeup brushes you can do so online by clicking on the “Sigma JANUARY Discount Code” image (located on my home page) which will allow you to use my 10% discount on anything on their website.
  2. Bobbi Brown – Ultra Fine Liner, Face Blender and the Bronzer Brush
  3. Smashbox – Kabuki Brush
  4. MAC – of course I had to feature the MAC 217 brush (I’m fairly certain this is the biggest ‘must have’ of all MAC’s brushes and the stippling brush which can be used for applying foundation AND I also use this to apply my cheek highlighters!

BEST IN BEAUTY – FACE SKINCARE

  1. Dermalogica – Daily Microfoliant (the oracle of all microfoliants!!)
  2. Trilogy – Certified Organic Rosehip Oil.  I was going to do a ‘Tried and Tested’ on this one very soon as I vowed to try this every day for a month before writing my review on it, however after just 2 1/2  weeks it had already secured its spot in my Best Beauty Products of 2012!.  My skin is visibly softer, smoother and more youthful in appearance and I just adore it!  I got my Trilogy Rosehip Oil from Health2000 online as this appears to be the place to shop to ensure ‘best bang for your buck’ as well as being the most informative in terms of product knowledge.  Click here to shop it.
  3. Nivea – Expert Lift Day Cream (I love good ol’ trusty Nivea.  For me this is  a fantastic affordable range of skin care.  I’ve used it for years and I will continue to do so.  With each new range they bring out they seem to only get better (although you discontinued one of my favourite day creams a few years ago Nivea and I still think about it now and wish you would bring it back!! It was in a medium-sized blue glass jar and it smelled like fresh clean linen and I miss it!!)
  4. Clinical Formulations – Skin Renewing Cream.  GLOWING SKIN in the morning after applying before bed!!
  5. BEE Nigma – Youthful Skin in a jar (unless you’re allergic to bees then it’s probably not going to be for you!)
  6. Nivea – Anti-wrinkle Day Cream
  7. Garnier – Intensive Night Treatment
  8. Garnier – Clean Sensitive Makeup Remover.  I have stuck to this tried and tested makeup remover for a couple of years now and I swear by it!  Gentle on your skin yet still removes waterproof makeup – LOVE!
  9. MAC – Strobe Cream – I doubt this needs any intro, but I will say – fabulous worn alone or as a primer under your foundation
  10. MAC – Mineralize Charged Water Eye Cream – Yes this is expensive but a little goes a loooooong way and its cooling properties feel SO good!!
  11. Bobbi Brown – Hydrating Eye Cream.  Hello divine hydrating eye cream.  This will probably make it into the 2013 Best Beauty Products!!

BEST IN BEAUTY – BODY

  1. L’Occitane Creme Mains – Hand Cream (I’ve only been through 3 of these this year – hand cream junkie!!)
  2. Body Shop – Vanilla Bath & Shower Gel and Vanilla Body Lotion (used it for 10 years, would use it for 10 more)
  3. MAC – To The Beach Body Oil (summer in a jar!)

BEST IN BEAUTY – HAIR

  1. MY HAIRDRESSER – Kurt of mod’s Ponsonby, is of course my number one on the list of BEST BEAUTY PRODUCTs of 2012 for hair.  Yes I’m well aware he’s not a product, but without him I would be lost and thus, he is at the top of my list!!  I cannot rave about my hairdressers enough (as all my friends will vouch for).  When you find a good hairdresser NEVER let them go and I trust my hair in the hands of ANY of the hairdressers at mod’s of Ponsonby!  They have seen me through countless dramas, like when I stupidly strayed and ruined my hair by going elsewhere whilst out-of-town, ugh – the salon that shall not be named seriously turned my hair a colour I actually stipulated I DID NOT WANT my hair to be…… Yup – without even so much as a disappointed look, mod’s completely corrected my hair back to its lovely colour they worked so hard over time creating.  And when I was sent a free DIY Hair Colour Package, again I ruined all Kurt’s hard work and actually cried that time, yup – they calmly went about undoing my stupidity and corrected it once again!!  My New Years resolution, much to mod’s relief, is that I will NEVER again DIY, go anywhere other than mod’s (even if I’m out-of-town for 3 months) nor will I ever try another free ‘anything’ from anywhere ever again.   If you are based in Auckland and don’t feel like you currently have THE BEST hairdresser, click mod’s hair PARIS and get yourself booked in to see any of their amazing hair experts based in their Ponsonby salon – you will never look back!! And I happily put my name to that statement!!  You could even mention I referred you and you never know, they might just offer you a referral discount 🙂
Sorry, I digress, now where was I, ahhhh yes Best Beauty Products for Hair……….
  2. O&M – Hair Care (fab travel size pack of shampoo, conditioner, masques and leaves hair super clean plus amazing shine)
  3. Matrix – Conditioner (nevermind 2012 – this is my all time favourite brand of shampoo & conditioner and will continue to be for years to come)
  4. mod’s Hair PARIS (Ponsonby) – Volume & Energie Hair Lotion (heat activated conditioner spray that reconstructs and revives dull hair and adds elasticity) and their Masque Coloeur (this little beauty is a lifesaver when you are in-between salon visits).  This ‘Colour Fresh Up’ acts like a toner in-between colour treatments and adds brilliant shine to your hair.  mod’s hair experts will direct you to the best toner to suit your hair colour
  5. Redken Hairspray – this is the best hairspray because it’s flexible!!  Spray on hair prior to curling and there’s no stiffness whatsoever and you can re-work your hair as many times as you like!!

BEST IN BEAUTY – NAILS

I won’t bore you with all the hundreds of colours I love when it comes to nail polish.  These are simply my top picks for Nail Polish brands…..

  1. Butter London
  2. OPI – goes without saying, I am addicted!!
  3. Orly – this is fast becoming a ‘first love’ equal to OPI and I just adore their mini’s and beautiful colour sets, such as the  Cool Romance set shown above
  4. RUBY Nail Varnish – like their clothing, their nail polish is simply divine.  The colours are to die!! and the staying power is fantastic.  I have yet to wear a RUBY Nail polish without at least one person asking where I got my fabulous nail colour from
  5. L’Oreal Gel Polish – I can do gel nails at home and remove it myself too?!  Yes please!  I am in love with this new range – brilliant shine and I love the colour range!!  Alas I only have 2 but I vow to get MANY more I love this range so so much!
  6. Orly – Top2Bottom: The BEST Top/Base coat EVER!!

BEST IN BEAUTY – FRAGRANCE

Simply put, these are my 2012 favourite perfumes…

  1. Marc Jacobs – Daisy
  2. Gucci – Guilty
  3. Taylor Swift – Wonderstruck (don’t judge me !! It’s delicious!!)
  4. Cafe Cafe – Puro
Well lovelies, that’s it for 2012.  I hope this gives you some beauty inspiration, as well as some insight into a few products you may have been pondering in 2013 and I look forward to trying a tonne of new beauty products throughout 2013 and reporting back to all my much appreciated Gurlinterupted blog followers.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
