ESSIE – The Autumn 2015 Collection

ESSIE - The Autumn 2015 Collection

If you haven’t yet seen essie’s new autumn collection, prepare to fall in love… When I laid eyes on the new essie colour palette my heart literally skipped a beat!  This new autumn collection encompasses all the colour trends we’ve recently seen on runways, bringing them right to your fingertips. The collection consists of 6 on-trend, yet autumn-appropriate shades and will allow you to go bold with a splash of cobalt blue, or keep things understated with a muted shade of taupe.

Partner in crime – rich dark chocolate
Melted chocolate, on your fingertips. This is a rich, deep chocolate-brown shade that is insanely pigmented. This shade surprised me the most as I didn’t think I would like it as much as I do.
ESSIE - The Autumn 2015 Collection

Fall in line – enigmatic jade green
a muted khaki green shade that is both smooth and opaque. This is such a beautiful transition shade for autumn! If you’re not ready to bust out the super dark & dramatic shades, then this is the perfect shade for you.

ESSIE - The Autumn 2015 Collection

Style cartel – inky cobalt blue
an eye-catching dark cobalt blue shade. It’s so shiny / glossy, it almost looks like you’re already wearing a top coat. I don’t own any other navy blue that is as bright as this one (and I own a lot of nail polishes), it really is a very unique shade. Sometimes dark navy blue polishes can tend to look a bit black, but ‘Style Cartel’ looks rich & bright in any light (both indoors and out).

ESSIE - The Autumn 2015 Collection

Dress to kilt – seductive red
A bold & seductive classic red shade. I’m very happy to report this red is a one-coater! It’s gorgeous – super glossy and so far as proven bloody resilient (chip-free for days).
ESSIE - The Autumn 2015 Collection

The perfect cover up – powerful peacock teal
A dark teal that is super opaque, you can get away with applying only 1 coat of this polish. It’s very similar to ‘Mind Your Mittens’ from essie but ‘The Perfect Cover Up’ is just a bit brighter and a tad more teal.
ESSIE - The Autumn 2015 Collection

Take it outside – punchy, fresh taupe (and one of my absolute faves!)
A beautiful neutral taupe-grey shade. The formula of this polish is great, it’s not streaky and looks 100% opaque with 2 coats. I personally think this shade is perfect for all year round, not just for autumn. It’s similar to ‘Chinchilly’ from essie, but just a little bit lighter.
ESSIE - The Autumn 2015 Collection

Now, it’s no secret that I believe essie are one of, if not the best nail lacquers of all time, with their single-stroke-nail-covering paddle-style brushes, their long-lasting lacquer (oh, and their good-to-go quick-dry finisher is absolutely amazing) and their chip-free coverage; but oh, this autumn collection is quite something else! They continue to create the best!

NailSnaps App Turns Your Instagrams Into Nail Art

NailSnaps App Turns Your Instagram Photos Into Nail Art

Have you ever Instagrammed a stunning pair of shoes, your cat, the perfect sunrise, or even a glamorous selfie that you wouldn’t mind seeing more often? Thanks to NailSnaps, now you can! The soon-to-launch app allows you to transform your favourite Instagram shots into a set of nail wraps (translation: you can now dominate those #NailArt and #PhotoOfTheDay hashtags.).

In fact, NailSnaps lets you turn any digital photo into one-of-a-kind nail polish stickers you can apply yourself in minutes for custom, wearable art.

NailSnaps App Turns Your Instagram Photos Into Nail Art
Here’s how it works…

The app allows you to upload pictures as one continuous image, with a different part of the photo appearing on each digit, or with the same picture repeated on all five nails. Then you can print out your design into decals, which can last up to a week or longer.

As mentioned in the promotional video, NailSnaps went through a Kickstarter process to meet the budget required to launch, and with donations flying in, not only did they hit budget, they went beyond it! The moment all brandbackers (that donated) have received their prototype nail stickers and NailSnaps finalise their test run, the app will launch. That’s any day now!

Essie – Coveted, loved and adored…

The Queen loves the shade Ballet Slippers and Kate Middleton chose to wear Allure to her nuptials to Prince William last year. Lady Gaga paired Merino Cool with her infamous meat dress and Angelina Jolie adores Mademoiselle.

Never before has a nail polish brand gained such a celebrity following. Loved by A-listers worldwide, essie has been adorning nails for more than 30 years and now it’s available to even more New Zealand women.

Yesterday media were invited to celebrate and experience the NEW and IMPROVED essie nail formula first hand…

Held in the beautiful surroundings of The Pavillion in Kohimaramara, guests mingled and sipped on mocktails (and perhaps a cocktail or two) before walking the gardens of The Pavillion, overlooking the water, to peruse all the stunning hues of essie’s vast colour range. And before the day came to an end everyone received a ‘nail makeover’ from a lineup of manicurists with essie nail colour and care products at the ready (with each guest receiving a selection of colours matched to their personal style – how cool is that).

So, what’s new with the already ‘world-famous’ essie?  L’Oréal has relaunched the essie nail brand with a larger range of shades and care products, with wider distribution, but most importantly – essie has a new and improved, thicker formula combined with a wider paddle brush that ensures ease of use and an even, smooth finish (less expensive salon visits, more at-home manicures – that’s what we like to hear!).

With 100 colour shades from neutrals to pinks, corals to reds and greens to blues, there’s a perfect essie shade for everyone.  And now, given the essie re-launch in New Zealand, the internationally renowned brand has become even more accessible to every kiwi woman.

Check out a few of the highlights from the day, along with proof that even before essie launched their ‘new and improved’ formula, I was already a huge fan, with a shot of some of my favourite essie colours I’ve been donning for years now – because after all, nails are the best accessory…

Bejewelled Nails and Jewel Tones Manicure…

Bejewelled Nails and Jewel Tones Manicure, nails, nail polish, nail art, nail design, OPI, OPI Nail Polish NZ, beauty, beauty blog nz, fashion blog nz, style blog nz, angie fredatovich, gurlinterrupted, girl interrupted, jewels, accessories nz

After seeing a fellow US Blogger’s jewel mani and inspired by the darker hues of winter fashion, plus rekindling my love of costume jewellery with large chunky gems, I wanted to create a jewel-inspired manicure to incorporate these lovely jewel tones; and so I’ve created this picture tutorial aptly named – Bejewelled Nails (and jewel tones manicure).

Bejewelled Nails and Jewel Tones Manicure, nails, nail polish, nail art, nail design, OPI, OPI Nail Polish NZ, beauty, beauty blog nz, fashion blog nz, style blog nz, angie fredatovich, gurlinterrupted, girl interrupted, jewels, accessories nzHere’s what you’ll need…

  • Jewel Toned Nail Varnishes – I’ve used: OPI Lincoln Park After Dark (wine), OPI Ski Teal We Drop (Teal Blue), OPI Got The Blues For Red (red), OPI Light My Sapphire (dark blue), OPI Jade Is The New Black (green). Obviously you can use whichever colours you have to recreate this look, it doesn’t need to be these exact nail polishes, this is just what I opted to use
  • A base and top coat
  • Tweezers
  • Nail glue (optional)
  • Nail art gems or beads

Bejewelled Nails and Jewel Tones Manicure, nails, nail polish, nail art, nail design, OPI, OPI Nail Polish NZ, beauty, beauty blog nz, fashion blog nz, style blog nz, angie fredatovich, gurlinterrupted, girl interrupted, jewels, accessories nz

Line up your colours so you remember the order (should you wish to have the colours coordinating of course)…

Apply your basecoat.  Once your basecoat is dry, apply your nail colour (I’ve done 3 coats of each colour).

Once you’ve completed your coats of colour, it’s time to attach the jewels. You should do this while your nail polish is slightly tacky (but not wet). Choose your gems of choice and apply some nail glue (if you choose to – it could just adhere to the sticky nail polish before it dries) and carefully place your jewel onto your nail(s). I’ve opted to just adhere my gold nail art to one finger on each hand, but you could do as much or as little as you wish.

Once your decoration (gem) is in place, apply a thick topcoat to secure your decoration of choice to your nail. Tip: Disassembled bindi’s make for great nail art decorations and you can get them from the ‘dollar store’  which is a lot more cost-effective.

VOILA – bejewelled, jewel tones manicure complete!

Ruby Wing: The New Scented Spring Garden Collection…

Ruby Wing, Nail Polish, Scented Nail Polish, colour changing, Angie Fredatovich, beauty blog nz, fashion blog nz. style blog nz, beauty media nz, nails, nail design,

OK, so I’m more than a little excited about this new collection by Ruby Wing…

Yesterday, I attended the NZ Beauty Expo where I got chatting to the team from Ruby Wing. They introduced me to their fab new line of nail lacquers – not just any nail lacquers, their new colour-changing SCENTED nail lacquers.

Ruby Wing’s new Scented Spring Garden Collection includes the most adorable hues, including Sunflower – a sparkling gold glitter polish, Peony, Fresh Linen and Cut Grass (Cut Grass so clearly my favourite, because A) it’s green and B) it’s one of my favourite summer aromas – the smell of freshly mown grass). Check out the new collection…

Beauty Banter – On My Vanity Table This Week…

Beauty, makeup, cosmetics, beauty blog nz, style blog nz, beauty media nz, PR NZ, Angie Fredatovich, Nails, Nail design, across my desk, from the beauty editors desk, beauty banter

The past week has been jam-packed with beauty, well, ‘beauty Products’ to be exact.  Inspired by all of the latest lovelies on my cosmetics counter, I thought a dedicated beauty post was in order.  Read on to discover what beauty gems have recently been released (some of them aren’t even in-store yet, so you’ll be getting a sneak peek at some soon-to-be-released items), along with a couple of items that aren’t necessarily new, but they are items that I’m really enjoying…

First up – INIKA’s Spring 2013 Limited Edition Colour Collection – Enchanted.  Inspired by the floral-motifs that filled the spring 2013 runways, lush floral and fresh foliage, INIKA’s limited edition colour collection – Enchanted, combines everything you need to achieve a truly enchanting look that captures the magical essence of spring.  It’s right on-trend with the colours and makeup styles seen on the recent SS13 runways worldwide – strong 60’s themed winged eyes, softly stained lips paired and subtle contouring to bring out facial features for a fresh and lifted spring look.  This limited edition, natural, organic makeup collection includes: Mineral Matte Eye Shadow in Cornflower, Mineral Eye Shadow in Honeycomb, Certified Organic Creme Colour for Cheeks & Lips and an Organic Eye Liner in Coco.  Available in store from August 1st at selected pharmacies and health food stores.  For more info, you can check out INIKA online by following this jump: www.inikacosmetics.co.nz.  In my personal opinion I thought some pieces of the collection were better than others, but again, this is just my opinion.  I’m not a big fan of loose eye-shadow pigment (I prefer my shadow in pan or cream form) so I probably wouldn’t look to repurchase those. What I did love was the cheek and lip tint (both for its hue and 2-in-1 convenience). I also really liked the eye liner pencil as the application was effortless (no need to pull at the delicate skin around your eye to apply as it glides on easily) and the colour – a nice warm brown.

Maybelline New York – Color Show Nail Polish. A fashion fix for your fingertips – Color Show comes in 25 runway ready shades for bolder, crisper colour!  The Maybelline hues I’m currently enjoying, as pictured below, are: (L-R) Coral Crush, Chiffon Chic, Plum Paradise, Impeccable Greys and Onyx Rush.  Oh and I heard that Maybelline’s new ‘Nail Art Factory app’ will be launching on Facebook this month.  The app will allow you to upload your own nail art and share looks with friends, browse through the nail art gallery, watch tutorials, or just simply try on all the shades. Pretty darn cool right?  Keep an eye out for this mid-June.

APOCALIPS LIP LACQUER by RIMMEL and LUSTRE SHINE NAIL COLOR by SALLY HANSEN.  APOCALIPS Lip Lacquer encompasses the intense colour of lipstick with a smooth lacquer-like shine.  Forget the dryness of many long-wear lipsticks, forget the stickiness of gloss, Apocalips has a creamy and conditioning texture that glides on easily and evenly whilst packing a powerful colour punch!  The packaging is equally explosive with its spectacular jagged edges and dramatic black colour code.  There are 8 shades to choose from and RRP is $17.99.  Available 8th July from Farmers, Kmart and The Warehouse. My Apocalips lacquers featured below are Stellar (red) and Nova (pink).

Another ‘soon to be released’ product – LUSTRE SHINE NAIL COLOR.  A new collection from Sally Hansen featuring eight incandescent nail hues infused with REAL SILVER!!  These nail varnishes are like no other.  They capture the light and deliver the most captivating, prismatic effect imparting a mother-of-pearl, glowing, iridescent finish. Seriously show-stopping nail polish. My hue of choice, as pictured below, is ‘Scarab’.   The Lustre Shine Nail Color Collection is available June 12 from Farmers and selected Pharmacies.  RRP$12.00.

My absolute favourite URBAN DECAY (UD) products have been well and truly replenished this week!  I cannot live without these UD products and as you can see, I’ve made sure I won’t run out any time soon.  If you haven’t yet tried UD’s 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencil you are seriously missing out!  It is like no other eye pencil!  I use the colour Bourbon (a rich chocolate-brown) and I can’t even begin to express just how good this is.  It’s THE perfect eye pencil! The colour lasts all day, gives 100% colour payoff, it has a soft kohl consistency and glides on like a dream (thus the name I guess).

My other UD ‘must-have’ is the 24/7 Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner.  Again – simply amazing.  It has a really good applicator, making it super simple to apply and the colour stays on ALL DAY, without fail.  The other thing that I love about this particular liquid eyeliner is that it dries with a glossy finish, so it continuously looks fresh and vibrant, which in turn gives you that ‘just applied’ look throughout the entire day.  I have the following colours (which personally I think are the best colours). Revolver – a gorgeous glistening silvery grey. It honestly looks like you have lined your lid with pure molten silver.  Perversion – a glossy black. Demolition – a rich chocolate-brown with shine – sans the sparkles.  All of these liquid liners have a glossy finish that just won’t quit!

Last but not least – Urban Decay Eyeshadow Transforming Potion.  Not too many people know about this little gem, yet it’s one of the most clever makeup inventions to come out of UD!  This product will transform any eyeshadow of choice, into liquid eye colour! Yup – it transforms eyeshadow into a liquid liner OR liquid shadow.  It has a dual wand so you can dip the larger brush (packed with potion) into your favourite shadow to create rich, smudge-proof colour, or you can use the thin brush for precision lining. Genius!   You can purchase Urban Decay from many online stores based right here in NZ (thank goodness, because up until about a year ago I was having to get friends to send them over from the US).

MOR COSMETICS. I am a certified MOR addict!  The packaging, the fragrance (and obviously the quality product), what’s not to love?!  Every time I see something new by MOR I will convince myself (and anyone within earshot) that I simply MUST have it! Necessity obviously!  My latest love – the ‘My Sweet Vanity Gift Pack’ in the scent Lychee Flower.  This gift pack contains a Lip Nectar, Perfume Oil and purse-size MOR Vanity Mirror, of which all comes packaged in a limited edition makeup purse.  Love, Love, Love!  Available in-store now.

Last but not least, my latest infatuation – Nail Art STRIPING TAPE.   I normally get my nails done professionally, but lately I’ve actually been doing my own nails as it seems crazy not to use all the fab nail polish I’ve been getting, plus I’ve been loving creating my own nail designs using Nail Art Striping Tape. Funnily enough I’ve actually received more comments on my nails since I’ve been doing them myself.  The recurring question – ‘how have you created metallic lines so perfectly on your nails?’  The answer – this super cool ‘nail art striping tape’ of which you can pick up for next to nothing. I got around 30 rolls in a variety of metallic colours for $6 on TradeMe.

PS: I also want it noted that I resisted the urge to answer the abovementioned ‘nail question’ with ‘I’m a natural with super-steady hands and an eye for detail’.

Well Beauty Babes – that’s my beauty banter for this week.  Any fab new beauty treats you’ve picked up lately that I should know about?  If so, I’d love to hear about them.

The Aromatherapy Co. – Therapy Kitchen
It’s no secret I am a HUGE fan of candles.  Admittedly I do tend to burn candles like it’s some kind of daily ritual that must be performed to ward off a bad day.  But in all seriousness I do feel the need to always have the house filled with welcoming, beautiful scents and it’s just so fitting that I’ve now found an entire range that is actually ‘room specific’, now even my kitchen smells like heaven.  If you’ve not yet discovered The Aromatherapy Company ‘Therapy Kitchen’ range, go and check it out now! I am literally in love with this collection featuring apothecary style candles, a diffuser, hand wash and hand lotion, all blended with the 100% pure and natural essential oils of Lemongrass, Lime and Bergamot.

Lipstick Pencils
Lip Pens, Lipstick Pencils, Pen Sticks, Lip Crayons – call them what you will, I’m loving these ‘lipsticks in pencil form’.  Typical of my personality – ‘all or nothing’, I tried lipstick pencils once and from that moment on decided I need to add to my growing collection every time I come across one.  The latest lip pencils that I am using on an almost daily basis are the new Max Factor Colour Elixir Giant Pen Sticks.  Application is effortless and the range of colours – swoon-worthy.  They’re not matte, cream, balm or gloss, they’re an amazing wearable texture in a range of super pigmented colours that I am thoroughly enjoying.

butter LONDON
The Rolls Royce of nail varnish – butter LONDON have just released their Winter 2013 Nail Lacquer Collections and it just so happens one of their new collections is aptly named ‘Glamorous Greens’ (you know my affinity for the colour green), so obviously this is the collection of choice for me, because after all – GREEN is the new black don’t you know.  I’m wearing Jack The Lad right now and I never want to remove it, well maybe I will as I’m dying to try Sloane Ranger next.  Check out this stunning collection from butter LONDON.

Perfume & Pretty Things
A Glimpse into my current trinkets and perfume faves… Changing up my iPhone cover this week, the Chanel is going into storage and I’m breaking out the Louis! I know it’s blingy, but I just don’t care – I just love my new LV cell case.

I was very spoilt recently when my guy popped overseas on business and came back with a new perfume for moi – Gucci Premiere.  If you’re anything like me and have a love for Gucci scents, you must check out Premiere.

Jewellery – currently loving my Colette Hayman long chain, gold crucifix necklace with black diamond detailing – fab for dressing up any outfit and versatile when converted into a wrist-wrap.

Last but not least, my love for tiny delicate jewellery (rings in particular) continues and these Lovisa black and gold rings featuring skulls and crosses are being taken for a spin on a daily basis!

SUPER SIMPLE DIY: How To Make Your Own Matte Nail Polish

DIY- Make Your Own Matte Nail Polish New Zealand Beauty Blogger Angie Fredatovich

Matte nail polish is so on trend right now.  I’m especially addicted to a matte black French mani; and it just so happens that this is THE most simple DIY guide for creating Matte Nail Polish (yup, totally cost-effective too).

Follow these simple steps (and a couple of extra handy hints further below) and you’ll be DIYing your way to a collection of matte polishes in no time.

What you will need:

  • A small container for mixing.  I just used a small foil pie dish, of which you can pick a bundle up for a couple of bucks at the $2 store
  • A bottle of nail polish – I’ve used clear in the photo, but you can use any colour you want to turn into a matte polish
  • A stirrer – I find manicure sticks really good, but anything will do
  • Cornflour

Just add equal parts of cornflour and nail polish into a small container, take the stirrer and mix well – yeah, that’s actually it!  You have your own matte nail polish.  Just don’t forget – once you’ve finished using the brush to apply your DIY polish, make sure you clean it with some nail polish remover before inserting it back into the polish bottle.

You will see from my pics, that I’ve used clear polish and this will look a little creamy – don’t worry it will apply pretty much clear (or just add less cornflour if you want super clear) and you can now apply over already painted nails to turn them matte.

Now, just one other super handy hint…  Got an eyeshadow that’s broken or crumbled? (hate it when that happens), well you can actually add eyeshadow to clear polish and it will have a very similar effect to cornflour, although I normally add both the eyeshadow and the cornflour to get a super matte polish with an added pigmented dimension.

You can do this with any nail polish colour at all – it works no matter the colour you add the cornflour to.  Also, as you will see from my matte black French mani pic above, once the matte polish has completely dried, just swipe a line of clear polish over the tips (use removable tape or mani stickers if you’ve not got a steady hand) and voila – matte french mani.

Announcing OPI’s New ‘Disney’s Oz The Great and Powerful’ Range

OPI Oz The Great and Powerful Range

OPI has just announced the launch of six limited edition nail lacquers and a new Liquid Sand™ shade, inspired by Disney’s Oz The Great and Powerful

Last night I went to see the new Hansel & Gretel movie (which by the way was AMAZE!) and I saw the preview trailer for Disney’s ‘Oz The Great and Powerful’ which looked so whimsical & adorable that I’m now super excited to get my hands on this new OPI range.   This highly anticipated film opens in theatres on March 8, 2013 – at which time the new OPI range will be in store.

This SoftShades collection captures the whimsy seen in the film, from glittery shades packed with white, gold and silvery iridescent confetti – “Lights of Emerald City, When Monkeys Fly! and Which is Witch?” – to soft neutrals in white, beige and pink – “Don’t Burst My Bubble, Glints of Glinda and I Theodora You”.  The new Liquid Sand nail lacquer – “What Wizardry is This?” – features a textured, matte finish infused with reflective sparkle.

Here’s a breakdown and sneak peek of the entire new range:

OPI Disneys Oz The Great & Powerful

Lights of Emerald City

White confetti adds city girl flair and style to nails.

Don’t Burst My Bubble

Don’t wake me…I’m dreaming about puffy clouds of white.

When Monkeys Fly!

I’m simply bananas for this gold confetti.

Glints of Glinda

Only a good witch could turn beige from meek to chic.

Which is Witch?

Is this silver glitter with iridescent sparkle or the other way around?

 I Theodora You

This adorable, sheer pink is bewitching on you.

This limited edition OPI range will be available beginning March.

Newspaper Nails…

Newspaper nails are so easy to do. This is a great tutorial for someone wanting fun nail art without too much hassle!  I’ve seen ‘newspaper nails’ around for a while now but hadn’t tried it myself until last night and I was pleasantly surprised with how quick and easy it was.  My ‘Step by Step’ tutorial will show you how to achieve this super cute look…

Here’s what you will need:

  • Light Coloured Nail Polish for the base (I’ve used OPI ‘s Did You Ear About Van Gogh?)
  • Alcohol (I recommend Vodka – not to drink!!) as it needs to be a white spirit. If you happen to have Rubbing Alcohol this is just as good
  • Newspaper
  • A small bowl (I recommend a deep lid/cap from a container)
  • Cotton pads
  • Cotton Buds/Cue tips
  • A Topcoat

STEPS:

1. Cut up a sheet of Newspaper into 10 pieces (slightly larger than your nails).

2. Paint your nails in a light grey or nude nail polish colour. Let it dry thoroughly before doing the next step.

3. Pour some alcohol into the cap or small container.

4. Dip a piece of newspaper into the alcohol for around 5 seconds and place, print side up, onto a cotton pad.

5. Press nail firmly onto the newspaper print and hold in place using the cotton pad for around 10-15 seconds (the cotton pad allows you to press firmly without smudging).

6. Lift your nail off the cotton pad/newspaper carefully. You’ll find that the ink from the newspaper will be left behind

7. Continue steps 4, 5 & 6 until you’ve competed each of your nails

8. Apply a topcoat to your nails. This will ensure the print wont smudge and gives your nails some extra shine.

If you have any print left around your nails, simply get a cotton bud and some nail polish remover to clean up your nails.

You can do this nail art with any newspaper print (unfortunately magazines won’t work as the paper is too glossy). A crossword cut into pieces would look kinda amazing too !
