Watch All The Highlights From “10 DAYS OF FASHION IN THE CITY” Right Here…

10 days of fashion in the city 2014

One of New Zealand’s hottest events – 10 Days of Fashion in the City, has officially wrapped up for 2014 (yes I hear makeup artists and stylists breathe a sigh of relief too!).  Events such as The Height of Fashion (a lunch and fashion show with New Zealand designers) and New Zealand’s Longest Catwalk (presented by Schwarzkopf) were just a couple of the attractions that showcased New Zealand’s finest, in Auckland’s Heart of the City.

One of the ’10 Days of Fashion in the City’ standouts has to be New Zealand’s Longest Catwalk (styled by none other than NZ’s hottest stylist – Kylie Cooke) where over 4,000 people watched as traffic came to a standstill and designer and streetwear dominated Auckland’s Queen St. The record-breaking golden mile was style central as the latest looks were brought to spectators on a 125 meter long stretch of runway.

If you missed all this fabulousness (yes, fabulousness is now a word!) you can check out all the highlights from ’10 Days of Fashion in the City’ right here…

INDUSTRY NZ – Where Hair & Fashion Collide

Industry Hair NZ

On Saturday night I had the pleasure of attending INDUSTRY NZ – where hair and fashion collide.

Star hairstylists, salons and brands joined forces to recreate the latest looks straight from New York Fashion Week, held at the Pullman, Auckland.

International Talent Rodney Cutler from Cutler Salon NYC – Sponsored by Redken 5th Avenue NYC, was INDUSTRY 2013’s international guest, following on the heels of the 2012 event’s VIP Snowden Hill. Rodney and his team worked on some 30 shows each at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week – New York, for the likes of Cynthia Rowley, Badgely Mishka and Tadashi. The latest looks from MBFW – New York (Feb 2013) were showcased by the Rodney Cutler team on the main stage at INDUSTRY.

Drinks & canapes, a live band, models rocking out with their own instruments on stage, fabulous fashion and on-screen cinematography that absolutely ‘made the show’.  Here are some of my highlights from the event…

Stand Out In Glassons…

Stand Out Glassons

Models walked a petal-strewn runway at the Coatesville Rose Factory this week to showcase Glassons’ first ever runway preview show ‘Stand Out Glassons’.

Guests arrived by coach and were greeted by the delightful treats of caterers Little and Friday.  Soon after arriving, models rocked the runway to live music – an amalgamation of muso’s brought together by Zara Mirkin. Including members of The Rackets, The Checks and other musical geniuses.

Glassons new Creative Director Adam Bryce certainly made his mark with his forward thinking, aptly named new Glassons campaign – STAND OUT GLASSONS!!

The ‘stand out’ campaign stories presented were Sheer Romance, Off Duty, Rustic Wanderlust and Wild Flower.  Key themes that shone through for Autumn/Winter 2013 – varsity & faux leather jackets, ample denim, lace dresses, anoraks and flannelette check shirts.

Check out the photo highlights from the ‘Stand Out’ Glassons Preview Runway Show event…

The New Zealand Fashion Museum Presents: HOME SEWN

Last week, in between running to and from various New Zealand Fashion Week Runway Shows, I attended the Home Sewn Pop-up Exhibition and Book Launch held at the Nathan Gallery, 40 Customs St East, Britomart.  The Home Sewn exhibition is an amazing visual record of original home sewn fashion garments from the archives of women’s wardrobes from all around New Zealand with connections to New Zealand designers before they embarked on their fashion careers, plus sketches, illustrations, patterns, and the tools of home sewing.   The present is also featured at the exhibition with an outstanding collection of designs from young designers of fashion today.

The exhibition is also the launch pad for the New Zealand Fashion Museum’s latest book, HOME SEWN.   This is a stunning compendium of ten patterns from the luminaries of the fashion world in New Zealand, such as Company of Strangers, Cybèle, Katie-maree Cole, Lela Jacobs, Papercut, Starfish, TK Store, twenty-seven names, Vaughan Geeson and WORLD.  It profiles each designer’s personal experience along with sharing a pattern from one of their stunning collections and step by step instructions on how to make them. HOME SEWN provides an overview of our home sewing history by curator Doris de Pont, including a range of personal stories, beautifully illustrated with photographs by  Stephen Tilley.  Home Sewn RRP $45.

It’s well worth making the time to go along to the exhibition which is open now and runs through until 26 September, 10am – 5pm daily, Monday to Saturday (Sunday 11am – 4pm).  Entry is free; however a donation on entry is welcome.  To see more information on all the creative workshops they are running over the next couple of weeks, click on the attached link: www.fashionmuseum.org.nz or check out their facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/pages/New-Zealand-Fashion-Museum/126614904023061?sk=events

A girl interrupted by Fashion, Beauty and anything pretty that catches my eye

Redefining Max

Iconic New Zealand fashion brand, Max, has been redefined with the introduction of new CEO, Trisha Whiting; Buying Manager, Liz Mannell and Creative & Marketing Director, Tracy Heaven, who together combine many years of expertise in both New Zealand and abroad in the fashion and apparel industry.

On Wednesday I had the pleasure of attending REDEFINING MAX, the Spring 2012 Launch Event and Runway Show.  Entering the venue, The Sphere in Cross St, immediately I knew I was in for a treat with a grand and enticing entrance, cocktails at the ready and all the who’s who of the NZ Fashion industry eagerly awaiting the big reveal, Redefining Max.  The new era for Max begins with the launch of three spring collections, HACIENDA, IN THE GARDEN and TO CATCH A THIEF.

HACIENDA
The show began with Hacienda.  Hacienda embodies the theatre and power of the flamenco and a Spanish Fiesta with rich combinations of texture and colour.  A stunning mix of intricate lace, peplum detail, daring fringing and to anchor the collections, a signature print exclusively commissioned for Max.

IN THE GARDEN
The second collection down the runway, In The Garden.  In The Garden takes you from Grandad’s garden to the Chelsea Flower Show with a market stall of botanical bouquets and a burst of floral pastels spiked with citrus or warm vegetable brights creating an organic colour feast.  Not for the faint hearted, the floral jacket and floral pant was a standout on the runway as were the fabulous bright ankle grazers and floral drape dresses.  This collection has me yearning for Spring/Summer.

TO CATCH A THIEF
The final collection to hit the runway, To Catch A Thief.  The ultimate in glamour and classic uncomplicated chic!  Think a culmination of a St Tropez sunset promenade along with the classic effortless lines of a true 50’s hollywood starlet.  Everything about this collection oozed hollywood glamour.  The warm pastels with cool neutrals tell the story and lines are simple yet eternally classic with embellishment that is crafted in tonal and textured contrast.  I was immediately drawn in the moment the first model sauntered down the runway channeling Grace Kelly.

A few of my key picks from the runway show (I am simply in lust with the lace bolero – hola!):

All spring collections are accompanied by a gorgeous selection of shoes, handbags and on trend accessories.

I’ve already purchased 2 of my hot picks from the new collections, roll on 27 August when I can get my hands on my ‘must have’ pieces from the To Catch A Thief Collection!

Congratulations Max!! Redefined and Fabulous!!
