The Shoe Edition: Mi Piaci & Merchant 1948

Mi Piaci and Merchant 1948 recently showcased their Spring/Summer 2016 range, and as always when it comes to these two brands – two of New Zealand’s favourite shoe and accessories brands, this showcase comes with a warning… beware fellow shoe addicts, you’re going to fall in love with all the fabulous footwear on offer.

There are so many beautiful offerings from both Mi Piaci and Merchant 1948 – slingbacks, slides, platforms and loafers are all born anew thanks to flared heels, thoughtful details and unexpected hues of leather and suede.

We’re seeing a 70’s vibe, along with some Studio 54 feels, and quite honestly, we couldn’t be happier about it. All of the footwear has us yearning for summer, and in typical Mi Piaci & Merchant style, we’ve fallen in love with everything on offer.

Oh, and guys, fear not, there are also beautiful offerings aplenty – both dressy and casual!

Vans Powers Up With A New Nintendo Collection

Gamers, it’s time to power up as Vans and Nintendo, the ultimate two-player partnership, unveil an extensive collection of footwear, apparel and accessories celebrating the early days of video games. While this isn’t a Nintendo post to tell you about the best Pokemon Go hacks ever – it does tell you about something equally cool!

Vans presents exclusive graphic prints using 8-bit inspired artwork and characters from Super Mario Bros., Duck Hunt, Donkey Kong and Legend of Zelda, as well as an assortment inspired by Nintendo’s first console, the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). This coveted collection will be available in adults and children’s sizing, making it ideal for Vans and Nintendo fans of all generations.

The Vans x Nintendo Classic footwear assortment kicks off with four variations of the Authentic silhouette. Travel to the Mushroom Kingdom for the first colourway, the Super Mario Bros. Tie-Dye, which showcases an all-over character print of Mario alongside several “power-ups” and the villainous Goomba over an 8-bit tie-dye pattern. A second color-up features the original damsel in distress, Princess Peach, awaiting rescue from her brave plumber. Duck Hunt comes to life atop a digi-camo backdrop featuring the hunting dog and flying duck and the final execution of the Authentic is an ode to Donkey Kong and incorporates imagery from its first level to present the title character in a unique floral arrangement. Vans’ iconic lace-free silhouette, the Classic Slip-On, appears in the sneaker line-up with graphics and quotes from The Legend of Zelda. A Sidestriped trio of the Sk8-Hi, Old Skool and Sk8-Hi Slim for women pay homage to the NES with prints and colors inspired by the console. Lace-up styles are trimmed with special details including Nintendo game logos on the tongue label and NES controller lace caplets. For the greatest feature, kick up your heels to reveal Vans iconic waffle sole printed with ‘Game Over!’

To present a throwback-styled, head-to-toe look, the Vans x Nintendo collaboration extends into apparel and accessory items for men and women. Co-branded tees, backpacks, bags, socks and hats are offered in prints that tie back to the Classic footwear.

Mi Piaci & Merchant Autumn/Winter 2016

There’s nothing we love more than new season collections, especially when we’re talking shoes! Mi Piaci and Merchant (the new name for Overland) are first on our hit list when it comes to curating our new-season must-haves. Their Autumn/Winter 2016 range is making it trickier than ever to narrow down our lust-list to just a few ‘wants’, oh, uh, we mean, ‘needs’, yes needs.

This season, Mi Piaci and Merchant combine refined modernity with the romance of Western detailing. Mi Piaci sees an elevated approach to the season, with hardware detailing and statement eyelets (one of my absolute standout pair of boots features the eyelet detailing) sitting alongside unique heels and refined silhouettes in the new collection. Meanwhile the Merchant range explores the rustic beauty of the west, channelling a legacy of craftmanship and practicality to reinterpret footwear classics.

Scandinavian Style – Ecco Soft 7 Sneakers

I love shoes, and I don’t mean in the typical ‘oh yeah, I love shoes and fashion and stuff’, I mean I have a serious Carrie-style love affair with shoes; with a collection that boasts over 250 pairs (I told you it was no joke). Now, I’m not just all about heels or sandals – all glitz and glam, I love all shoes, and sneakers are right up there! In fact as I get older and my style changes and evolves, the more I appreciate a great pair of kicks. Heck, I used to think if I wasn’t in heels, there was something seriously wrong. Stay with me, I’m going somewhere with this…

So a few weeks back I came across some pretty damn cool kicks – Ecco Soft 7. I’m going to be completely honest, up until about a month ago, I really knew nothing about ecco shoes, but my new Soft 7’s are making me wish I hadn’t arrived so late to the ecco party! As I said earlier, I love sneakers, but what I love even more, is a pair of fresh white high-top kicks. Ecco Soft 7 sneakers ticks all the boxes (although they’re also available in black, my preference was white), they’re leather high-tops, they look damn good, and don’t even get me started on the comfort factor; like walking on memory-foam-clouds.

Everything about these sneakers is pure perfection! I love the appearance at first glance, but I also love the detailing – the curved cutaway at the heel, the icing on the cake. The leather is so damn soft I want to live in them every day, and the aesthetics of the ecco soft 7 makes them perfect to wear dressed down with shorts or trackies, yet they look fabulous with a beautiful dress or skirt.

To give you a little background about ecco shoes, (and of course my much-loved Soft 7 sneakers) they’re a global Scandinavian footwear brand. Known around the world for its technically superior shoes and the quality and production of its leather, ecco has produced its softest leather for the Soft 7. Ecco’s direct injection technology also produces more flexible and durable shoes which are also hard-wearing. The heritage leather uppers are naturally soft, light and breathable, perfect in a contemporary sneaker. The Soft 7 is available in a range of styles including men’s and women’s high and low top sneakers as well as a suede slip-on and contrasting laces version. The style will release in both black and white initially with a range of playful new colours being introduced in 2016. This Spring/Summer, silhouettes are clean, embracing natural leather tones and a sensitive use of colour. Seasonal classics have evolved with sandals, espadrilles and slides featuring accents of texture and hardware alongside the key trend of laced-up footwear. Metallics and embellishment add a luxe element to practicality. Loafers and oxfords are freshened up as the popularity of classic flats continues. When your chosen career has you working on your feet all day, it’s quite frankly, painful! Especially when you’re wearing the wrong footwear. With the plethora of footwear on offer it’s daunting and costly playing the ‘which is the right shoe for me’ game. For The Love Of Loafers: The Latest Arrivals From Online Shoe Store – Mr W and Me

If you follow me on Instagram, Twitter or Facebook you’ll know of my love for my fave online boutique shoe store – Mr. W & Me. Heck, if you’ve bumped into me out and about, you’ll no doubt have seen me donning one of my many pairs of Mr W and Me shoes, as it’s safe to say I’m generally always wearing their fabulous footwear.
