Red Door – Always Red
The latest from Elizabeth Arden’s Red Door range, Always Red is a luxurious floriental perfume that opens with an irresistible blend of vibrant blood orange, luscious red plum and passionfruit. As the composition evolves, a textured heart of jasmine sambac, pink freesia, and velvet rose petals evoke intense femininity and passion. The fragrance dries down to a praline, mahogany woods and red amber symbolise the sensuality and tantalising confidence synonymous with the colour red. We think it’s safe to say that this could well be the best Red Door release to date! Available from all Elizabeth Arden stockists. RRP starts at $59.

Valeur Absolue Vitalité

This perfume is bursting with positive energy, just like peridots, which help release blockages and have a balancing action on the emotions, whilst also promoting happiness. The perfume has crisp, zingy green notes mixed with heart of magnolia, and a pure, chypré base, with a combination of Indonesian patchouli and China tea. Leaves and fruits, like the super fruit energy boosters have been subtly interwoven into the composition. Available at selected Farmers, pharmacies and department stores. 45ml RRP$115.

MAKEUP

Yves Saint Laurent Couture Variation Eyeshadow Palette
We only have one makeup item that we want [see: need] to mention in our New and Newsworthy Beauty Edition writeup, and the reasoning is quite simple; there’s no other eyeshadow palette we’ve been using since discovering it a couple of months ago. whilst it’s not so much new, it certainly is newsworthy!

Available in two gradient palettes – Couture Variation No.1 Nu and Couture Variation No.2 Tuxedo. We’ve been obsessing over No.1, the nude palette.

The shadows have a silky-smooth and soft texture, they blend out easily and without fallout. We love how some of the shades give luminosity while others give depth, perfect for achieving a smokey eye. The variations of beiges, sand, champagne, golds, bronzes, copper and brown shades can be used either for a natural day makeup or intensified for a night-time look.

YSL Nu Palette starts with the lightest shades and reveals the darkest ones at the end. Shades No 2,3,4,5,6,7,9 have a high shine, shimmery finish, almost like a metallic one, while No.1 is a perfect nude that can be used for blending in the crease, applying on the lid or creating a simple natural look. The darkest shades are No.8 and 10 and along with No.1 they are the only ones with a matte finish.

We’ve played with this palette on a daily basis, tested and worn each of these shades and they are long-lasting; they wear for hours without creasing or fading. The palette is absolutely gorgeous and it really is worth the investment, Sure it’s on the expensive side, but god dammit, it’s worth it for luxury such as this.  Available from selected department stores, farmers and pharmacies. RRP $142.

Also worth mentioning, as we’ve been teaming this product with the abovementioned palette – the Couture Eye Primer. There are two shades in Fair and Medium (although Medium is still quite light). Medium is a creamy soft light beige with a hint of pearl to it. To the touch the product feels very emollient and like a cream/mousse hybrid and soft in the pot but it dries to a finish that won’t budge. The finish is slightly dewy but not overly glowy and really does stay put. These are designed to be a shadow base to extend wear, or alone for a nude eye look.

MARACA – A Sensory Journey…

MARACA, skincare, skin care, hand cream, body lotion, body wash, scented candles, beauty blog nz, fashion blog nz, style blog nz, beauty media nz, fashion media nz, angie fredatovich, gurlinterrupted, fashion, beauty

MARACA, skincare, skin care, hand cream, body lotion, body wash, scented candles, beauty blog nz, fashion blog nz, style blog nz, beauty media nz, fashion media nz, angie fredatovich, gurlinterrupted, fashion, beauty

For those of you who have not yet heard of MARACA, take note now – I predict this is going to become a name synonymous in NZ skincare, spa and home fragrance.

MARACA founder, Chris Lim, was inspired to create his original range after travelling through Europe. Speaking to locals in small communities, he discovered plants and herbs that have been used in eastern medicine and spiritual practices for centuries. These ancient methods of boosting vitality and health are just as relevant today. Every scent, every colour and every texture tells the story of the precious benefits to be found within every ingredient. With his strong passion for quality skin care and previous involvement with well-known global cosmetic companies, Chris developed the MARACA range using this precious knowledge.

I actually covered MARACA on Gurlinterrupted.com several months ago (you can read my original post here: Introducing MARACA) and since then the brand has grown and changed significantly! Now MARACA has a new look, direction and several new collections.

MARACA, skincare, skin care, hand cream, body lotion, body wash, scented candles, beauty blog nz, fashion blog nz, style blog nz, beauty media nz, fashion media nz, angie fredatovich, gurlinterrupted, fashion, beauty

The collection I picked up recently (the ‘Bloom’ collection) prompted me to find out a little more about the inspiration behind MARACA’s new look (which I have to say has a very ‘Chanel-esque’ look and feel, with its crisp black & white packaging, finished with gold-foil detailing. Again, not surprising given Chris’ previous work with global cosmetic and perfumery brands).  Chris wanted a more minimalistic, yet luxurious, clean look and feel, befitting his new streamlined collections.  Moving away from producing a plethora of products, Chris focused only on the items that his clientele favoured.  In skincare – body washes, body lotions and hand creams.  In home fragrance – candles and diffusers.

Each collection is personally developed and created by Chris using sustainable practices that do not support animal testing, nor the use of parabens.  He is devoted to the ethical use of the finest natural and nourishing plant essences, and all packaging is 100% recycled and 100% New Zealand made!

The BLOOM collection includes a body wash, body lotion and hand cream of the highest quality, with the most beautiful & delicate scent that lingers on your skin throughout the day.  Oh, and the candles are also incredible (I grabbed one from the MARRAKESH collection). The MARACA candles fill your home with a delicious scent that seems to last all day, after only an hour or two burn-time.

MARACA, skincare, skin care, hand cream, body lotion, body wash, scented candles, beauty blog nz, fashion blog nz, style blog nz, beauty media nz, fashion media nz, angie fredatovich, gurlinterrupted, fashion, beauty

Now, Chris isn’t one to boast (so I’m going to do it for him), but lets just say the well-known global cosmetic companies he worked for are some of the biggest names in the beauty industry, and it’s within this industry that Chris has built a reputation for having expert knowledge in perfumery, along with the rare ability to create the most exquisite combination of scents, each unique and perfectly balanced to tell any story requested of him, purely through a sensory journey.  So much so, I happen to know Chris has been personally requested to create a unique perfume for not one, but two, rather well-known New Zealand media personalities. Yes, he’s that good!

To find out more about MARACA – head to www.maraca.co.nz (you will find many of the original collections here), or head to one of the many MARACA stockists to get your hands on the new collections now.  For a list of stockists: www.maraca.co.nz/stockists/

TANAHOLICS – This One’s For You…

Brownallyear, brownallyear.com, tanners, fake tan, organic tanning, BarePR, beauty, skincare, beauty blog nz, fashion blog nz, style blog nz, beauty media nz, fashion media nz, angie fredatovich, gurlinterrupted, shoes, makeup, cosmetics, fashion

To tan or not to tan – that is the question.  Knowing how unsafe it is to tan [see: bake] in the sun – what to do when wanting to achieve the perfect tan?  Well, unless you’ve been blessed with a natural tan, the only safe way is straight out of a bottle, and this is where Brownallyear comes in!  Brownallyear is a fabulous organic tanning product that’s designed to give you the perfect brown tan and have you looking like a ‘beach-bronzed-babe’ in no time.

Brownallyear, brownallyear.com, tanners, fake tan, organic tanning, BarePR, beauty, skincare, beauty blog nz, fashion blog nz, style blog nz, beauty media nz, fashion media nz, angie fredatovich, gurlinterrupted, shoes, makeup, cosmetics, fashion

Brownallyear is the brainchild of self-confessed tanning addict Haliee Wheeler.  Hailee was inspired to create a chemical-free and sunless tanning solution so she could safely tan herself as often as she liked. Ten years on, Hailee has spray-tanned more than 13,000 people with Brownallyear’s specialist line of products, which thankfully is now available in a DIY at-home retail range.

Now I myself am of the naturally tanned persuasion, so to ensure I could give you a ‘tried and true’ review I had a friend (thanks Janey) give this ‘organic answer to all your tanning woes’ a whirl to see if it’s all it claims to be. We trialled the following products – Instant Tanning Spray, Chocolate Tanning Cream & the Velvet Blending Glove, and here’s our findings…

First up – the The Instant Tanning Spray.  The spray bottle produces a fine mist of product that works with your own skin tone to deliver a gorgeous chocolaty tan [note: chocolate tan, not orange!]  I have to say this in itself was a delight to behold, as seriously – I find I’m repeatedly asking myself “who is it these self-tanners have seen that have inspired them to create an all over orange-skinned hue?”  No naturally tanned person is orange people!  This is what, right off the bat, impressed me about the Brownallyear tanning spray – it actually creates a brown tan. The unique formulation combines Caramel from non GMO Cane Sugar, which develops (over four hours) a safe long-lasting gorgeous tan while the inclusion of skin-conditioning aloe vera leaves your skin hydrated and silky smooth.  But most importantly – it delivers a beautiful BROWN tan! The tan then lasts for up to 10 days.

Brownallyear, brownallyear.com, tanners, fake tan, organic tanning, BarePR, beauty, skincare, beauty blog nz, fashion blog nz, style blog nz, beauty media nz, fashion media nz, angie fredatovich, gurlinterrupted, shoes, makeup, cosmetics, fashion

Janey used the Velvet Blending Glove to ensure a smooth, even and streak-free application!  She simply sprayed the product directly onto the glove and from there, applied it to the skin.  The Velvet Blending Glove is definitely key to the process – a must-have to ensure you receive a flawless result!

Brownallyear, brownallyear.com, tanners, fake tan, organic tanning, BarePR, beauty, skincare, beauty blog nz, fashion blog nz, style blog nz, beauty media nz, fashion media nz, angie fredatovich, gurlinterrupted, shoes, makeup, cosmetics, fashion

The other product I had Janey trial was the Chocolate Tanning Cream.  This rich chocolaty tanning cream glides on a like a silky smooth moisturiser for an instant golden all-over tan. Again it works in with your own skin tone – from the palest of skins to naturally olive tones, this little gem in a bottle will work for everyone.  Using just one pump of the Chocolate Tanning Cream and a pair of rubber gloves, Janey applied her first application and then applied another (after waiting 4 hours to see how the colour developed) to reach her desired colour.  You can continue to build your colour to create your desired tan.

Brownallyear, brownallyear.com, tanners, fake tan, organic tanning, BarePR, beauty, skincare, beauty blog nz, fashion blog nz, style blog nz, beauty media nz, fashion media nz, angie fredatovich, gurlinterrupted, shoes, makeup, cosmetics, fashion

So I guess it all comes down to preference – a spray tan or a cream?  Janey’s preference was the spray (she changed her mind on this several times) although I’d say both must be equally great as she’s taking the spray AND the cream ‘off my hands’ (apparently payment for being a guinea pig – yeah tough gig Janey). So it’s safe to say I’ll be looking to check Janey into a Tanaholic Addiction Centre fairly soon!

Head on over and check out all that www.brownallyear.com has to offer!  Seriously good stuff and an absolute essential for the perfect, but more importantly safe, summer tan!

La’Bonic Organic Sebum-Balancing Serum…

If you’re after complexion perfection, La’Bonic’s Organic Sebum-Balancing Serum is a must -have! For the last couple of months this has been my ‘go to’ secret weapon in achieving glowing, even-toned skin.  It’s not often a skin perfecting product comes along that I think is really rave-worthy, but when it does, I definitely want to let you know about it!

la'bonic, labonic organic sebum-balancing serum, nz made, beauty, skincare, beauty blog nz, fashion blog nz, style blog nz, beauty media nz, fashion media nz, angie fredatovich, gurlinterrupted

It’s safe to say we all go through the ‘problem skin’ phase. I’m not prone to bad outbreaks, however I do often find my skin can get a little dry (admittedly this is probably caused by constantly creating and trialling several makeup looks in one day, then removing and reapplying all over again). I also love to be sans makeup when I’m not going out or creating makeup tutorials, but it does irk me to see uneven skin tone and the dehydration showing through.  A friend put me onto this La’Bonic serum and I haven’t looked back. Certified organic, containing premium-quality certified organic Tea Tree essential oil with Echinacea and Chamomile, this serum reduces redness and irritation, soothes inflamed skin and leaves you with a brighter, more even skin tone, that feels super-hydrated. I’ve got my family and friends onto my ‘not so secret – secret weapon’ now and as it makes my ‘Beauty loving’ list – wanted to share it with you too.  If you experience uneven skin tone, redness or irritation, or maybe you just feel like your skin is a little dehydrated – I highly recommend checking out La’Bonic Sebum-Balancing Serum!

Put Yourself Back In The Picture…

Weleda pomegranate Firming Face Serum, skincare, beauty, beauty blog nz, style blog nz, fashion blog nz, beauty, angie fredatovich, bare PR, New Zealand, Bianca Talaic

A couple of weeks ago a gorgeous parcel arrived at the front door step and attached was a note, accompanied by a photo frame.  “Put yourself back in the picture” it said.  Well now how could I not with such a cute parcel, frame and note attached, right?  Introducing – WELEDA POMEGRANATE FIRMING FACE SERUM…

Weleda pomegranate Firming Face Serum, skincare, beauty, beauty blog nz, style blog nz, fashion blog nz, beauty, angie fredatovich, bare PR, New Zealand, Bianca Talaic

No matter your age, let’s face it, we are ALL getting older, heck scarily for me I will be another year older in just a matter of weeks, so yes, I do worry about wrinkles, keeping my skin hydrated and doing all the things that will, in years to come, hopefully help in the reduction of the signs of aging!

The Weleda Pomegranate Firming Face Serum is packed with antioxidant-rich pomegranate seed oil and said to help ageing skin bounce back with natural nutrients and essential fatty acids that aid the skins own ability to regenerate. There are promises that after 28 days of use the depth of wrinkles are reduced by 29% and skin moisture levels are increased by 39%.  Well with that kind of promise why wouldn’t you at least try it.  And so, two weeks later, here I am still using the WELEDA POMEGRANATE FIRMING FACE SERUM. Now, I fully realise that the 28 days is not up, but in the meantime, until I report back, this beautiful serum sure is making my skin feel soft and my face does seem to have a bit of a healthy glow happening, so it’s definitely made my ‘products worth trying’ list.

I’d love to hear of anyone else that is currently using this product.  If you are – let me know how you are finding it and I’ll do the same once the 28 days are up.

EPSOM SALTS: A-List Celebs Are Raving About It – Find Out Why It’s The New Beauty Staple…

Epsom Salts, The key to a better you, beauty, skincare, health, natural, beauty therapy, beauty blog nz, fashion blog nz, style blog nz, bath, beauty media nz, gurlinterrupted, angie fredatovich, celebrities, gwyneth paltrow, Victoria Beckham, Elle MacPherson

For years Epsom Salts have been a trusted cure for aches and pains. Now, thanks to Gwyneth Paltrow, Victoria Beckham and Elle Macpherson, of whom are raving about this natural elixir, Epsom Salts are fast becoming a beauty staple.

I’ve been using Epsom Salts for as long as I can remember. Years of gymnastics when I was young and playing sports pretty much seven days a week has caused scar tissue and nerve damage in my back, neck and arms like you wouldn’t believe. Basically by the end of the day my neck and back feels like concrete (knots like you’d not believe) and in turn, for me this means migraines! I have to take care of myself by regularly stretching, drinking plenty of water to ensure I’m keeping the toxins at bay and staying hydrated, and of course – when I have the time, I have a bath with Epsom Salts to break down all the muscle tension. What a lot of people don’t realise though, is that there really is so much more that Epsom Salts can do for you and your body; and it would seem celebrities are now sitting up and taking notice, which of course means, hopefully so will everyone else.

Epsom Salts, The key to a better you, beauty, skincare, health, natural, beauty therapy, beauty blog nz, fashion blog nz, style blog nz, bath, beauty media nz, gurlinterrupted, angie fredatovich, celebrities, gwyneth paltrow, Victoria Beckham, Elle MacPhersonCosting a fraction of the price of designer potions – you can pick up a tub for just a couple of dollars from your local chemist, health store, etc. Being hailed as a miracle fix for everything from greasy hair to a bloated stomach and lacklustre skin. The salts’ healing properties were discovered in the early 17th century when a farmer living near Epsom, Surrey, discovered a spring rich in magnesium sulphate.

When you have an ‘Epsom Salts bath’, magnesium and sulphate are absorbed through the skin. Because our skin is porous, reverse osmosis takes place, which means toxins and excess fluids are drawn out of the skin as the goodness goes in. It breaks down the muscle tension and in turn, no more tension headaches or migraines! But there’s plenty of other fabulous uses for Epsom Salts…

BLOAT BEATER: Bathing in Epsom Salts helps to reduce water retention and tummy bloating. Bathing three times a week in a dilution of two cups of Epsom salts per bath will see you strutting with a flatter tummy in no time (no wonder celebrities are starting to take note).

HANGOVER CURE: Bathing in Epsom Salts after a night of over-indulgence is a great way to beat the hangover blues. Hangovers are caused by the toxicity of the alcohol breaking down in the body. The byproducts of this – and dehydration – trigger a throbbing headache, fatigue and nausea. The sulphates in Epsom Salt help flush out toxins and ease muscle pain.

FOOT SOAK: Got tired, hot feet? Not only will Epsom Salts soothe aches and pains after a day in heels, they are an anti-inflammatory and will also help to reduce swelling and puffiness. Add half a cup of Epsom Salts to a large bowl of warm water and soak your feet for ten to 20 minutes. The salt will remove odours and soften dry skin, which can then be removed easily with a pumice stone or foot file.

PERFECT PINS: For even-toned, summer-ready legs, you can lessen the appearance of bruises by applying an Epsom salts compress. Soak a facecloth in a cupful of cold water mixed with 2 tbsp Epsom salts and apply directly to the skin.

INSTANT FACIAL: Exfoliate and deep cleanse the skin by mixing ½ tsp Epsom salts with your usual cleanser. Massage on to the skin, then rinse with cool water and dry. This will boost your skins magnesium level. Epsom salts are a natural cleanser as well. They rejuvenate and rehydrate skin as well as removing toxins. Because the minerals are being absorbed through the skin, you can’t overdose on it.

BOUNCY HAIR: Epsom salts will soak up excess oil from the hair. Just add a handful when you shampoo and wash as normal. The Epsom Salt Council recommends making a volumising mask by mixing one part hair conditioner with one part Epsom salts. Warm this mixture in a pan and work it through the hair. Leave on for 20 minutes and then rinse. Hair will look fuller and feel softer, and the minerals will help to repair and strengthen heat-damaged ends. It’s particularly good for smoothing frizz out of curls.

JET-LAG CURE: Soaking in an Epsom salts bath after a long-haul flight has a sedative effect on the body. The minerals help muscles and joints to relax and this leads to a more restful sleep, giving the body a chance to re-energise. Magnesium sulphate activates the body’s healing mechanisms and many athletes take a soak the night before a race. A long soak will also help with aches, stiffness, tightness and soreness after exercise.

So, do you think you’ll give Epsom Salts a go? Will it be a new ‘beauty staple’ for you? Or, are you already using Epsom Salts and know of some other fabulous uses? I’d love to hear about them, so leave me a comment below and share your tips and tricks.

Wishing you a relaxing week…

The Next Generation Of Body Care Is Here: NIVEA In-Shower Body Lotion…

NIVEA new zealand, nivea nz, MaxtedThomasPR, MaxtedThomas NZ, In-Shower Body Lotion NZ, beauty blog nz, fashion blog nz, style blog nz, beauty, beauty media, makeup, cosmetics, angie Fredatovich, gurlinterrupted.com

A few weeks ago media attended a pretty darn special beauty event at Auckland’s Hilton Hotel.  The event was for the launch of NIVEA’s new In-Shower Body Lotion – the next generation of body care.  The hardest part about attending this launch was knowing we couldn’t talk about it until the embargo was lifted (you know how we bloggers love to Instagram and tweet everything as it’s happening) plus I’ve been using this fab new product every morning since the event, without being able to rave about it to friends.  The great news is, the embargo has lifted and I can now officially introduce you to NIVEA In-Shower Body Lotion.

Here’s a few snaps from the launch event; and me trying the NIVEA lotion on my hands (laughing as Leonie from The Style Insider says ‘smile, I’m taking photos and I’m taking them with YOUR phone’).

This is NOT a moisturising body wash; this is a hassle-free way to moisturise while you’re in the shower.  The NIVEA In-Shower body lotion has a unique formula that activates on wet skin after your regular wash with a shower gel and provides long-lasting moisture to leave your skin feeling hydrated and silky smooth.  So. if you struggle to find the time to moisturise, or maybe you just can’t be bothered to moisturise, this is the product for you.  Check out these simple steps:

Like I said, I’ve been using this body lotion every day since the launch and it really is brilliant!  It leaves your skin feeling super-conditioned, without any sticky or oily residue.  It’s a little ‘mini-moments’ pamper session.

There are two products in this range – one for normal skin and one for very dry skin, available on-shelf in September from supermarkets, mass merchants and selected pharmacies. RRP is $9.49.

Shiseido Launches New Skincare Range: IBUKI

Shiseido, IBUKI, skincare, cosmetics, makeup, hilton, victoria hannan, beauty blog nz, beauty media nz, style blog nz, fashion blog nz, gurlinterrupted, angie fredatovich

Beauty media gathered at Auckland’s Hilton Hotel earlier this week to celebrate the launch of Shiseido’s new skincare line – IBUKI (which also see’s new packaging for Shiseido’s skincare range, and I have to say, it’s stunning!).  IBUKI – is a Japanese word that refers to ‘Inner Strength’ – a buried resource that can endure adversity and emerge in beautiful condition; and this new range is said to ‘bring your skin to life’.

Hosted by Shiseido’s Brand Manager – Victoria Hannan and International guest speaker – Ms. Mayu Wanibuchi, beauty media were treated to a fabulous breakfast whilst being presented with the new IBUKI skincare range.  I have to say I have very fond memories of Shiseido growing up (come on – who didn’t use their ‘moisture mist’ line and ‘compact foundation’?) and their new IBUKI range has reenergised by affinity for Shiseido.  The new range includes:

Gentle Cleanser: this is a gentle cleansing foam that lathers into a creamy foam, removing impurities and excess surface cells.

Purifying Cleanser: An invigorating cleanser that contains micro-granules to exfoliate away resistance-lowering impurities.

Softening Concentrate: This one is by far my absolute favourite!  This penetrates deeply into the skin’s surface to help build the skins resistance to problems by filling it with moisture. This one actually makes my skin feel like silk – I am infatuated with it at the moment!

Refining Moisturizer: (yeah they spell it with a z): this moisturiser is multi functional and helps improve visible pores, breakouts and skin roughness caused by dryness.  Using this one directly following the ‘softening concentrate’ – makes for the perfect skin duo!

Refining Moisturizer Enriched: Much like the Refining Moisturiser, only it feels to be a more concentrated version and lasts all day.

Protective Moisturizer: As I’m sure you’ve guessed – this moisturiser protects against external aggressors such as UV rays and air pollutants.

Eye Correcting Cream: This little gem addresses dark circles, puffiness and fine lines for immediately more vibrant eyes – I’m quite a fan of this one too.

I was fortunate enough to be seated next to Shiseido’s In-house Training Manager who has an absolute abundance of knowledge on all things ‘skincare’, and given she informed me that the key ‘body-repair-time’ is when you are asleep during the hours of 10pm and 2am, I’m seriously going to have to lather these IBUKI goodies on, as that key repair time – is when I’m wide awake with insomnia.

Check out the new IBUKI line, as well a few photos from our lovely morning with the Shiseido Team….
