With so many fantastic events, launches, free music gigs and pop-up stores being announced, I thought it was time to fill you in on “what the heck is going on”! Like I said, there are a tonne of great things happening, and I’ll let you know as new events and launches crop up, but for now, here are a few of my top picks and the first one kicks off this Thursday (28th Nov). From feel-good causes at Miss Clawdy, a block party in Nuffield St, a free music gig featuring Ginny Blackmore, through to a newly launched beauty website and an exotic-vintage-furnishings pop-up store…

All canned goods collected at the end of the evening will be donated to Auckland City Mission.
It’s so heartwarming to see a business giving back to the community and Miss Clawdy’s is doing just that – but it’s not going to happen without you! So head along, take a few canned goods, enjoy a fabulous southern style dining experience, all whilst knowing you too are supporting the Auckland City Mission.
Food and drink enthusiasts will not only be invited to practice the art of giving thanks but can enjoy a special Thanksgiving menu available only on Thursday 28 November. The menu includes a Thanksgiving po’ boy, made with pulled turkey, green apple, cabbage slaw and mustard topped with homemade cranberry that will entice diners with a taste of Thanksgiving southern magic.
To top it all off, diners can toast the day with a glass of ‘The Slow Co’. A Thanksgiving cocktail of spiced Orange and Southern Comfort with cranberry juice and ginger beer.

Natural beauty lovers rejoice – Vanilla Bloom Natural Beauty Boutique has a fabulous new online store
If you’re searching for natural and holistic beauty offerings this festive season then Vanilla Bloom is the perfect destination. This newly launched website focuses entirely on natural and organic beauty.
Vanilla Bloom Natural Beauty Boutique is the brain child of Jo Davenport, who has more than ten years’ experience in the health & beauty industry. “There’s definitely an increasing appetite for a greener, more holistic approach to life. Globally, the market for natural and organic personal care products is expected to grow annually by almost ten percent for the next five years”.
Navigating the ingredient labels on beauty products can be complex and overwhelming. Vanilla Bloom has made this easier for natural beauty lovers by checking products for them. All natural & organic beauty products are thoroughly researched and every ingredient checked. In order to be ranged, products must be free from animal testing, be manufactured by companies committed to a greener approach to beauty and meet the Vanilla Bloom Ingredients Policy of being free from the most common and potentially ‘dirty’ synthetic ingredients.
How fabulous is that! All the hard work has been taken out of shopping for beautiful natural & organic beauty products (plus they stock some of our beauty faves such as BITE Beauty and butter LONDON).

Ok so this one isn’t an event or a pop-up store, nor is it a newly launched website, however – what it is, is a damned good PR campaign! It’s not often that a press release or a PR campaign intrigues and delights me, but if it really catches my eye and makes me look at something twice, that I normally probably wouldn’t look at, at all – I think it’s worth sharing, because it’s just damn clever!
So a couple of days ago I received this really dodgy looking parcel – I’m talking a package that was sealed with masking tape, had a bow on it – taped flat, ripped paper, the works! (admittedly the wrapping paper was green so that’s always a win in my books, even if it does look like its been run over by a truck – twice!). Of everything that arrived that day, the badly wrapped parcel was the first thing I reached for because it was just so strange. I was even more intrigued when I found it contained a really beautiful Annabel Langbein cookbook! Who the heck would send such a beautiful book, wrapped so badly? Turns out the incredibly bad gift wrapping was all part of the campaign and inside the book was a note explaining what it was all about…
Paper Plus is launching a fun, tongue-in-cheek, Christmas campaign which involves ‘turning the tide’ on bad gift wrapping this Christmas.
In order to identify those Kiwis most in need, and to separate them from the wrapping masters, Paper Plus has created an online quiz called ‘Wrap it like this’, which will categorise individuals into one of six wrappers: The Crap Wrapper, The Try-hard Wrapper, The Shortcut Wrapper, The Recycled Wrapper, The Craft-Master Wrapper and The Couture Wrapper.
Once Kiwis have determined what sort of wrapper they are (having a bit of a laugh along the way), they are then directed to an online video tutorial that caters to their level of ability, with the aim of up-skilling even the most disadvantaged or misguided wrapper.
Well – quite simply I think this is gold! A bit of a fun, a cool campaign and some pro wrapping tips from Paper Plus.
Head over to: www.paperplus.co.nz/wrapitquiz and get your ‘wrapping profile results’.
