I can’t even remember when my infatuation with Benefit Cosmetics began, but I can assure you it was many years ago now when I made my first online order, all the time wishing that we had Benefit stores here in New Zealand. Finally my wish has come true with the opening of their first store at the duty-free counter at Auckland International Airport, and their second store at Smith & Caughey’s on Queen St.
Specialising in brows, Benefit has been raising eyebrows since 1976 with their brow bars and we are lucky country number 41 to finally have these bene-browfessionals working to make kiwi woman look brow-mazing!
A little beauty-nerd trivia (yes I took notes): Benefit Cosmetics have 3000 beauty counters worldwide, 1000 brow bars and 50 boutiques. Their infamous mascara, they’re real!, is the Number 1 selling mascara at Sephora in the US and UK, and Number 1 at Myers in Australia – that’s a lot of bene-love!
Last week Gurlinterrupted attended the greatly anticipated media launch of Benefit Cosmetics here in New Zealand. Held at the uber-cool Nostalgia restaurant in Ponsonby, NZ beauty writers were treated to an evening of bubbles & beauty. Benebabes – Jessica, Hannah and Gemma, along with Justin aka Dr Feelgood, demonstrated some of their best-selling products whilst sharing fun facts about how some of their products actually came to be e.g. did you know ‘benetint’, once known as Rose Tint, has a slightly raunchier background that just a cheek/lip tint? Yeah lets just say that Playboy magazine would have found this product very handy to enhance certain assets ha ha, ahem, I digress… Here are some of the highlights from the amazing launch event followed by my day at the Smith & Caughey’s Benefit store opening (where I may have bought just a couple of my favourite products like the ‘fakeup’ hydrating crease-control concealer, high brow – the brow lifting pencil and a few creaseless eyeshadows. Next on my list – ‘the total moisture facial cream’ – swoon).

how much is the fakeup?
It’s $45. It’s like no other concealer I’ve tried before. It kinda has that consistency that a really good primer has (you know, that grape seed oil consistency) yet it conceals at the same time. I’ve used sooo many big brand concealers but this one is really different. Super duper hydrating so I think that’s how it manages to erase the appearance of fine lines and makes you look more awake and radiant, well that’s my take on it anyway. Wait – just had a look at the booklet – it has apple seed extract!!!! That’s what gives it that awesome hydrating seed-oil texture/feel.
Sorry for the ramble. Whilst answering your one small question, I answered one of my own questions and managed to write you a novel ha ha
xx
No, I’d love to know more about it before I commit to buying something. Definitely useful stuff! I’ll have to try it on to see if it suits me! 🙂 Great post by the way!
Thanks for the lovely feedback, that’s really sweet of you 🙂
Let me know how you get on with fakeup and what you think of it once you’ve tried it.

How much is it to get brows done at the benefit brow bar?
Are you in AKLD NZ?
