I did not envy the judging panel, consisting of New Zealand’s top fashion and export industry leaders such as: Kate Sylvester, Erica Crawford of Kim Crawford Wines, Carolyn Enting of Mindfood, Megan Wildermoth of DHL Express and Paul Blomfield of FINZ. They did a stellar job choosing the overall winner.

Must Haves

I thought since nzgirl.co.nz asked me to compile my ‘Hot Five’ (basically, a compilation of what I view as being the 5 latest and greatest ‘must haves’ on my radar) for their website, why not do a similar post on my site for you lovelies.  Here are my Hot Five – Must Haves for the month.

1.  LOVING_Karen Walker Enamelled Jewellery
I am head over heels in love with the Karen Walker Enamelled Jewellery range!  Best of all – it’s an AFFORDABLE KW range!  With a strong nautical theme, this collection is going to look great with just about any summer outfit.  I have my eye on the three strand enamelled charm necklace in either scarlet or navy, I love both so much I can’t decide which to get.  Check out the collection on PreciousPeg.com.  Prices range from $59 to $129 for the most expensive piece.  Swoon!

2.  DEVOURING_ LittleWolf
If you want a caterer who knows what they’re doing, but does it with a twist?  You want LittleWolf!  Spotted at all the hottest events around town, from media launches to the VMA’s, LittleWolf do it all with their talented team of styling professionals.  From  ‘Alice In Wonderland-esque theming through to exquisite corporate dining, LittleWolf are like no other caterer!  They have a signature service that certainly leaves an impression.  From the moment I saw their work, I’ve raved about them to anyone that will listen.  Visit their website www.littlewolf.co.nz – these guys are perfect for any upcoming Christmas events.

3.  LISTENING ON REPEAT_The Civil Wars
The Civil Wars is my ‘must-have’ album for summer!  For the last few weeks I’ve had their cover of Michael Jackson’s Billie Jean on loop!  Their introduction to the world was just prior to the album release when one of their songs (Poison & Wine)was heard on Grey’s Anatomy in the foreground, in its entirety, over a key climactic montage, prompting hundreds of thousands of viewers to Google the mystery music.  Each song is an intimate conversation and their album is hauntingly beautiful. Click here to listen to Billie Jean on YouTube.  Dance me to the end of love is another great track.

4.  DOWNLOADING_  BoD (Band of the Day)
If you’re a music lover, BoD (Band of the Day) is for you. BoD is a great (free) app that helps you discover hundreds of new singers/bands that you might not of otherwise ever discovered. BoD highlights a different band each day, providing a bio, news, interviews, images, video, and free streaming music. I’ve discovered so many cool new artists with this app that I can’t remember what I did before I had it.Download the app here.

5.  COUNTING DOWN FOR _Cosmetic Advent Calendar!
Christmas is just around the corner and I LOVE Christmas! From choosing the perfect tree and decorating the house to the smell of pine trees and picking presents for family and friends – I’m all about it.  Cute and gimmicky, but I don’t care – I love it – the Cosmetic Advent Calendar!  This bad boy combines two of my favourite things, Christmas and beauty!  Each window you open in the lead up to Christmas has a beauty product behind it. From an eyelash curler to lip gloss, shading brushes to eye-shadows – it’s the gift that keeps on giving.  RRP$30 from The Warehouse. PS. It’s on sale for $20 at the moment!

How To Shuck A Strawberry Like A Boss….

I think this is just genius!! I know what you’re probably thinking, ‘how hard can it be to pull the tops of strawberries?’ But this leaves the strawberry immaculately presented, which is fab for dinner parties, timely for Summer/Christmas gatherings, or when you’re popping a strawberry into a drink (mmmm champagne & strawberries) – they look so perfect!! Check out this super quick & easy ‘how to’ clip from young&reckless.com.

I guess that’s why they call them ‘STRAW’berries huh! (I apologise for that – couldn’t resist!)

NZ Music Awards

Red Carpet Celebrity Arrivals, Paparazzi, Designer dresses, a goat (yes you read that right – the Home Brew boys included a goat in their entourage) and live performances were all part of the Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards on Thursday night and I was lucky enough to be part of the entire experience.  From the red carpet to the photographers pitt; to backstage and the media room – I was there, soaking up the atmosphere, chatting with the talented nominees & winners; and snapping pics.  Here are some of my favourite moments from the VMA’s………

Yes – Taika gets his very own photo sequence because, well, he’s Taika, but mainly because he was just so much fun in front of the photo wall on the red carpet.

Oh, and the award for ‘hmm, potentially not the best thing to say out loud’, goes to………..ME!  In hindsight, stating ‘no one likes an overachiever’ at Kimbra’s excitement at winning her 4th award for the evening (and there were more awards to come.  Don’t get me wrong, I really do love Kimbra).  Hey – at least there was laughter! Lucky they got my sense of humour huh!

Favourite American Brand Doesn’t Ship Internationally? Create Your Very Own Postal Address in the USA…

YouShop is a brilliant new NZ Post service that makes it a whole lot easier to get online shopping from the USA sent to your door.

All those American brands that you’ve always wanted to purchase online but couldn’t because they only ship to a US address (e.g. Urban Decay, H&M, etc.) are now accessible to us here in New Zealand via ‘YouShop’. All you have to do is register online with NZ Post (it’s free!) and YouShop will generate your very own US address, otherwise known as your ‘YouShop Address’. I’ve created my very own US address already. Here’s an example of what you can expect to receive, via email, once you’ve registered with NZ Post:

USA Postal Address for www.gurlinterrupted.com
Once you’ve created your YouShop address (which you can do in less than 5 minutes) you are ready to shop! Follow these easy steps once you have your US Address:

Shop at online stores in the USA, and enter your YouShop address at checkout.
When your parcel arrives at your YouShop address (which is NZ Post’s USA warehouse) NZ Post will alert you that your parcel has arrived so that you can declare the value of the parcel for customs purposes; and pay for international postage to your nominated address in New Zealand.
Once your parcel leaves the USA warehouse you’ll receive parcel updates so you can monitor its progress.
NZ Post/You Shop has got the USA covered, and other countries are on the horizon. So, what are you waiting for? Head over to NZ Post and create your very own American postal address via the attached link: http://www.nzpost.co.nz/products-services/postage-packaging/youshop

Happy online shopping ☺

The New Zealand Fashion Museum Presents: HOME SEWN

Last week, in between running to and from various New Zealand Fashion Week Runway Shows, I attended the Home Sewn Pop-up Exhibition and Book Launch held at the Nathan Gallery, 40 Customs St East, Britomart.  The Home Sewn exhibition is an amazing visual record of original home sewn fashion garments from the archives of women’s wardrobes from all around New Zealand with connections to New Zealand designers before they embarked on their fashion careers, plus sketches, illustrations, patterns, and the tools of home sewing.   The present is also featured at the exhibition with an outstanding collection of designs from young designers of fashion today.

The exhibition is also the launch pad for the New Zealand Fashion Museum’s latest book, HOME SEWN.   This is a stunning compendium of ten patterns from the luminaries of the fashion world in New Zealand, such as Company of Strangers, Cybèle, Katie-maree Cole, Lela Jacobs, Papercut, Starfish, TK Store, twenty-seven names, Vaughan Geeson and WORLD.  It profiles each designer’s personal experience along with sharing a pattern from one of their stunning collections and step by step instructions on how to make them. HOME SEWN provides an overview of our home sewing history by curator Doris de Pont, including a range of personal stories, beautifully illustrated with photographs by  Stephen Tilley.  Home Sewn RRP $45.

It’s well worth making the time to go along to the exhibition which is open now and runs through until 26 September, 10am – 5pm daily, Monday to Saturday (Sunday 11am – 4pm).  Entry is free; however a donation on entry is welcome.  To see more information on all the creative workshops they are running over the next couple of weeks, click on the attached link: www.fashionmuseum.org.nz or check out their facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/pages/New-Zealand-Fashion-Museum/126614904023061?sk=events

In The Media

A Girl About Town……

Out and about, sometimes a few pics are snapped here and there at various events for the media: newspapers, mags and websites and thus this post, which I update now and then. Heck, a little self promotion never hurt anyone LOL

Bloggers Angie Fredatovich of Gurlinterrupted.com and burlesque star and blogger Miss Phlossy Roxx.  Now, I have to say, sooooo glad I went to the MAC Hit The Pavement Party, this is where I properly met Miss Phlossy – she really is über cool!  So, soooo lovely and hilariously funny (her partner D is just as cool).  Then, at the NZ Music Awards we bumped into each other and hung out again; and that confirmed it – crazy attracts crazy – and I love crazy! Heck who wants to be normal – life is for living and I’m so stoked I’ve met Miss Phloss.
