Summer's Most Coveted Accessory: The Roundie Towel by The Beach People...

Already hitting cult status, the Roundie Towel by the Beach People is on my ‘lust list radar’ and is, as far as I’m concerned, an absolute ‘must own’ this summer. Heck, it’s a must-own for any season!

Big enough for two people – the Roundie Towel is perfect for visits to the park, lounging around outdoors in your own backyard, and of course – a brag-worthy accessory at the beach.

Summer's Most Coveted Accessory: The Roundie Towel by The Beach People...

The Roundie Towel is available in a variety of prints…

The Majorellethis is the one I most want to own (In saying that, I really do love them all!) but it’s the first Roundie Towel print that caught my eye and the one I hope to make my own!  Hand drawn in blue hues. Inspired by an adventure to the Moroccan Botanical Gardens owned by Yves Saint Laurent.

Each Roudie Towel is 100% cotton and 1500MM in diameter. The Beach People have thought of it all – there’s even a leather strap on offer, perfect for transporting your roundie towel with ease, and of course, in style! To get your hands on one of these beautiful towels, head to

The Aztex
This print is the original Roundie. Hand drawn in black and white. This is The Beach People’s first love!

Summer's Most Coveted Accessory: The Roundie Towel by The Beach People... The Paradis
Hand drawn in navy and white, with sand coloured tassel detailing. Oui oui – take us to paradise.

The Amaroo
Hand drawn – this design is inspired by Australian indigenous art. Amaroo means ‘lovely and beautiful place’, just like this lovely and beautiful print.

Christmas Gift Guide: For The Person In Your Life Who Has Everything…

Christmas Gift Guide: For The Person In Your Life That Already Has Everything…

This ain’t no run-of-the-mill Christmas gift guide featuring blatant advertising cues; items you’ve already thought of. This is the gift guide that is going to change your life! I’ve featured something for everyone; gifts that are the answer to your ‘what the hell do I get them’ prayers. I’ve thought of it all! I mean, it’s difficult enough trying to find the ‘perfect gift’ for loved ones at Christmas time, let alone trying to find something special for someone who appears to have everything right? Well you’ve come to the right place then, because this is the gift guide for exactly that someone – the someone who has everything.

Now, It would appear that I in fact fall into this category myself, because of the line of work I’m in e.g. a fashion and beauty editor, apparently I’m that ‘hard to buy for’ person according to those closest to me. Whilst to some degree there is truth in their frustration – I do tend accumulate a bit more than the average person (I like to think of this as collecting, like a hobbie, only most of my collection is wearable). I also rebuke their claims by simply stating “there are a million things that I don’t have and would love, it’s really not that difficult as I love anything pretty that catches my eye and have an extremely wide range of interests”, however, I generally leave it at that. Yes, not overly helpful that I don’t follow with “and here are the items that you potentially didn’t know I would love…”.

So, given I have had this brought to my attention each and every time Christmas rolls around, who better to curate a gift guide such as this, than me!

Before you go thinking this is just my own personal wish list of Christmas gifts, of which I am cleverly disguising as a helpful gift guide for you, I assure you it’s not (I do in fact either already own most of these items, or I’ve been a little more helpful this year and have shared some thought-starters with those closest to me). Think of it more as a list of all the things that perhaps you just hadn’t thought that that certain ‘someone who has everything’ would want; maybe it will contain something that you yourself will add to your own Christmas wish list. It could be that some items are a little out of your price range, but rest assured others most certainly will be within your budget. More importantly, think of this guide as a peek into the mind of someone who has a lot, but like everyone, always has their eye on more…

Boh Runga’s Latest Collection For NZ Mint Has Arrived – Introducing ‘Down To Earth’

Boh Runga's Latest Collection For NZ Mint Has Arrived - Introducing 'Down To Earth'

Boh Runga’s latest collection for NZ Mint has arrived. Aptly named Down to Earth, this stunning five-piece, sterling silver collection is organic in look and feel…

With pale green gemstones (yes, my favourite colour, so clearly I’m already completely taken) and sculpted seedpods and leaves, Boh’s jewellery range is inspired by nature, with a nod to flora.

The bracelet features a singular seedpod and peridot (this is the piece I’m currently donning) as does the double layered pendant. The ring, an unusual setting, features the stone set on one side in a rub over setting and it’s uniqueness has definitely captured my inner-magpie. The brooch is uber cool as it can be worn on a coat lapel or at the top of a buttoned up shirt; the chandelier earrings are the fifth piece in the collection and they’re absolutely stunning!

If you have an accessories-obsessed loved one to buy for this Christmas – I think you’ll find the answer to your Christmas-shopping-prayers lies with NZ Mint!

Lindi Kingi's ALCHEMY Range For NZ Mint

We couldn’t be more excited about Lindi Kingi’s new deluxe range – Alchemy, for NZ Mint. There’s not a piece in the new Alchemy collection that isn’t pure perfection. Dark, romantic, decadent – we may even have to go as far as saying, the best collection to date! (although truth be known, every collection of Lindi’s is the best in our books).

Since we’ve been donning our new pieces of Lindi’s Alchemy range, there’s not been one single occasion where we’ve not received compliments, or had enquiries as to where we got our fabulous accessories. It’s hard to choose a favourite, but it’s safe to say the ‘ear thread’ is right up there!

Frame Of Mind – The Specsavers Eyewear Trends of 2015

Frame Of Mind - The Specsaver Eyewear Trends of 2015

Last week media were treated to an early preview of the 2015 Specsavers eyewear collections. Held at Cibo in Parnell, guests dined with the eyewear king – Alex Perry. Alex presented his new collection, and talked to the passion behind his collaboration with Specsavers.

Fabulous frames aside, it was so interesting to hear about Alex’s childhood, growing up in a family of frame-wearers at a time when glasses really were quite unaffordable. He spoke of having to choose the frames he wanted (as did his siblings) and those were the frames he had to wear, every day, for years to come; because quite simply, seasonal trends just weren’t possible when frames were so unaffordable, and I can totally relate! I too wore glasses as a child and the rules were, you had your frames and you looked after them, well! Although I only needed glasses for a couple of years (although I need them again now) looking back on the frames I had, thank god I didn’t have to wear them any longer than I did, because quite frankly, they were hideous! Now, I adore glasses, don them proudly and love all the frame options I have due to their affordability – heck I have as many frames as I do handbags!

Alex’s passion is clearly driven from his experience of wearing frames at a time when glasses, style, fashion and affordability didn’t go hand in hand; and his goal, in collaboration with Specsavers, was to ensure that frames were not only affordable, but also stylish. Specsavers have change the eyewear game, making frames and lenses completely affordable, with style to boot!

Not only did we preview all of Alex Perry’s eyewear, we also viewed the full Specsavers range, which includes Cheap Monday, Collette Dinnigan, Osiris, Country Road and Roxy, to name just a few. We’ve included some of our favourite frames below, however if you’d like to view the full 2015 Specsavers eyewear collections head to www.specsavers.co.nz.

Style, Beauty & Design - The Home Edition…

If you’re a regular around here, or even if you’ve only read one or two articles, it’ll be ‘slap you in the face’ obvious that we’re a tad obsessed with all things fashion & beauty. But what you may not have yet discovered (if you haven’t ventured beyond the most recent posts) is that we’re equally obsessed with homeware, interior design and all things new and stylish for the home.

And so, now that we’ve gotten to know each other a little better, we bring you ‘the home edition’, featuring the latest in homeware items on a budget, kitchen gadgets, coffee table books, even the latest news from House & Garden magazine, to name just a few.

So put your feet up on that stylish L-shaped couch, fluff those multi-coloured pillows, pour yourself a Nespresso, or perhaps a cheeky vino if you so desire, mute the TV and settle in for the latest home update…

The Aromatherapy Co – The Laundry Range
The Aromatherapy Company introduces Therapy laundry, a new extension of the Therapy family and a ‘must have’ in the laundry. The Therapy Laundry range includes a 500ml Hand Wash, 500ml Linen mist spray (hello, heaven-scent! Pun intended), a 150ml Static Spray, a clothing lint comb (we’ll be packing away winter coats and jumpers that look like they’ve never been worn, thanks to this little gem) and a 150g natural soap bar (could be named ‘miracle stain remover’ it’s that good). The Laundry range incorporates the essential oils of lemon balm for its antibacterial properties and lavender for its relaxing and refreshing aroma. Forget your run-of-the-mill generic, basic brands, it’s time to indulge yourself in ‘laundry-luxe’! Ok, we may have made that term up – but it’s fitting, right? This range will see your home turned into a heavenly sanctuary (and scented like one too). To find out more, head to www.thearomatherapycompany.co.nz.

Literature Worthy Of Display
While they may not be polarizing tomes that insist on being anything but portable, they are indeed more than worthy of being on display for all to see. These are the books we are proudly displaying on our coffee table (and of course, carrying up to bed to peruse before drifting into a fashion-filled lumber). Not only are they the topic of conversation when gathered around the coffee table, due to their titillating titles alone, they’re also all beautiful to gaze upon, adding instant style to any lounge room.

Mademoiselle – Coco Chanel and the Pulse of History (Hardback)
Certain lives are so exceptional, and yet so in step with their historical moments, that they illuminate cultural forces far beyond the scope of a single person. Such is the case with Gabrielle ‘Coco’ Chanel, whose life offers one of the most fascinating tales of the twentieth century – throwing into dramatic relief an era of war, fashion, ardent nationalism, and earth-shaking change – here brilliantly treated, for the first time, with wide-ranging and incisive historical scrutiny.

Coco Chanel transformed forever the way women dressed. Her influence remains so pervasive that to this day we can see her afterimage a dozen times while just walking down a single street; in all the little black dresses, flat shoes, costume jewellery, cardigan sweaters, and tortoiseshell eyeglasses on women of every age and background. A bottle of Chanel No. 5 perfume is sold every three seconds. Arguably, no other individual has had a deeper impact on the visual aesthetic of the world. But how did a poor orphan become a global icon of both luxury and everyday style? How did she develop such vast, undying influence? And what does our ongoing love of all things Chanel tell us about ourselves? These are the mysteries that Rhonda K. Garelick unravels in Mademoiselle.

Style, Beauty & Design - The Home Edition…

Vivienne Westwood – The Autobiography by Vivienne Westwood & Ian Kelly (Hardback)
One of fashion’s greatest icons, and the founding mother of punk, Dame Vivienne Westwood is known not only for her style, brand and timeless edginess, but also her outspoken activism and controversial catwalk antics. This 73-year-old Matriarch of fashion is the subject of an authorised biography, which is available on-shelf now. The book, written by biographer Ian Kelly, details her tumultuous life with her long-time partner, Sex Pistols manager Malcolm McLaren.

Using contributions from the British designer’s family and friends, as well as Westwood’s own interpretations, Kelly catalogues the pair’s dysfunctional love affair and creative partnership.

Recurring throughout the book, Vivienne Westwood, is the designer’s insistence on using art to affect social change. As her wealth and fame grew, she has continued to put her public platform and pounds to good use, to back an ever-expanding repertoire of causes. Whether it be making handbags in aid of Kenyan women, shaving her head for cancer awareness or founding a global campaign to save the arctic, Westwood’s revolutionary spirit never seems to fade.

“What I’m doing is still punk,” she told Associated Press, “out shouting about injustice and making people think, even if it’s uncomfortable. I’ll always be a punk in that sense.”

How To Be Parisian Wherever You Are
From four stunning and accomplished French women — at last — a fresh and spirited take on what it really means to be a Parisienne: how they dress, entertain, have fun and attempt to behave themselves.

In short, frisky sections, these Parisian women give you their very original views on style, beauty, culture, attitude and men. The authors—Anne Berest, Audrey Diwan, Caroline de Maigret, and Sophie Mas — unmarried but attached, with children — have been friends for years. Talented bohemian iconoclasts with careers in the worlds of music, film, fashion and publishing, they are untypically frank and outspoken as they debunk the myths about what it means to be a French woman today. Letting you in on their secrets and flaws, they also make fun of their complicated, often contradictory feelings and behavior. They admit to being snobs, a bit self-centered, unpredictable but not unreliable. Bossy and opinionated, they are also tender and romantic.

You will be taken on a first date, to a party, to some favourite haunts in Paris, to the countryside, and to one of their dinner parties, at home with recipes even you could do. But to be out with them is to be in for some mischief and surprises. They will tell you how to be mysterious and sensual, look natural, make your boyfriend jealous, and how they feel about children, weddings and going to the gym. And they will share their address book in Paris for where to go; at the end of the night, for A birthday, for a smart date, a hangover, for vintage finds and much more.

How to Be Parisian Wherever You Are will make you laugh as you slip into their shoes to become bold and free, all while tapping into your inner cool.

NZ House & Garden Magazine
NZ House & Garden always uncovers some incredibly creative, innovative and beautiful spaces from around NZ and continues to inspire us. Given our love of all things for the home – it will come as no surprise that we’ve been closely following NZ House & Garden’s Interior of the Year awards. If you haven’t been following the awards yourself, here’s a snippet of what it’s all about. These awards are special because they showcase NZ designs across the entire talent spectrum – from regular home owners who roll up their DIY sleeves right through to professional architects and interior designers.

The judges of this, the second NZ House & Garden Interior of the Year awards, were Sally Duggan, NZ House & Garden Editor; Richard Brunton, NZ House & Garden Art Director; Kiwi furniture and lighting designer Simon James; and last year’s winner, interior designer Hilary Skinner.

The judges painstakingly whittled the impressive entries down to 18 finalists (all 18 are announced in the November issue) but there could only be one winner… enter architect and homeowner Felicity Brenchley who blew the judges away with her clever use of materials and space to create an inventive kitchen for her young family that doubled as a workspace– all in less than 20 square metres.

Check out the November issue of NZ House & Garden to see all the details, and of course – the beautiful pictorial story.

SodaStream Play
One of our favourite gadgets for the kitchen! Created by world-renowned designer Yves Béhar, the SodaStream Play is at home in the most stylish of kitchen spaces with its minimalist yet colourful design. It uses water straight from the tap, and saves the average home 550 plastic bottles every year – a huge reduction in its carbon footprint.

There are so many fabulous concoctions to create with the SodaStream Play – sparkling water with lemon for a sophisticated weekend lunch; creative cocktails for a girls night in, or fun and fruity combinations for a healthy choice! It’s simple to use, and with sparkling water on hand, the possibilities for delicious, imaginative and healthy sodas are endless!  Try SodaStream sparkling water with cucumber, mint and lime for a summer morning refresher. How about adding chia seeds and frozen berries for a zingy treat that gives you a great omega boost at the same time? Personally, our favourite creation is something a little more ‘PLAYful’ .
