WIN!! A VIP Style Experience Valued At Over $500 With Gurlinterrupted & Westfield Newmarket's Style Lounge

For decades, celebrities have relied on the trusted advice of their personal celebrity stylist, a service the average Kiwi would consider as the domain of the rich and famous.

Despite hundreds of stylists working every day in New Zealand to provide style advice to the everyday Kiwi, the long-standing perception remains that style advice is expensive and unattainable to most.

In order to break down the myths around using a stylist, Scentre Group’s Westfield centres have implemented a ‘Style Lounge’ at centres across the country which offers the public free one-on-one 15 minute style sessions with leading New Zealand stylists.

“Fashion isn’t about buying the latest trends on a celebrity budget,” says stylist Jackie O’Fee, one of the stylists taking part in this Westfield initiative, “We all wear and buy clothes so it’s about making this service accessible to everyone.”

Westfield stylists include Jackie O’Fee, Luke Bettesworth, Sally-Ann Moffat, Rose Lally, Coby Haimes, Stephanie Rumble, Leonie Barlow, Trudi Bennett, Sarah Nichol, Shona Wilson and Natalie Clements.

For the first time the Westfield Style Lounge in this new format will be at Westfield Newmarket and open to the public on from Thursday 2nd October until Sunday 5th October.

Westfield centre Style Lounges occurs every summer and winter and travels around most Westfield centres to launch the season. All year round personal styling sessions are available seven days a week during normal shopping hours and start at $230 for two hours. To book a session visit www.westfield.co.nz. To check out the latest trends visit #westfieldstylenz.

Meet Peter Alexander! Peter Is In NZ To Launch His Latest Charity Endeavour Supporting Paw Justice

Meet Peter Alexander! Peter Is In NZ To Launch His Latest Charity Endeavour Supporting Paw Justice

Peter Alexander launches his latest charity endeavour in support of Paw Justice…

Launching nationally across New Zealand this week, sleepwear king Peter Alexander unveils his latest charity endeavour, a collaboration with well-known children’s author Adam Hargreaves of the Mr Men book titles resulting in a new book, Little Miss Hug and Penny the Dog.

All the money from the sale of Little Miss Hug will be going to highly regarded animal charity Paw Justice. Plus, Peter Alexander is dedicating the national profits from an entire day of sales to the animal charity – this will take place on 30 September 2014.

Peter Alexander’s latest partnership came about after identifying two issues very close to his heart – the acceptance of people’s difference and animal charity, Paw Justice.

Meet Peter Alexander! Peter Is In NZ To Launch His Latest Charity Endeavour Supporting Paw Justice

Peter recently tracked down the son of the original Mr Men author, Adam Hargreaves, and asked him to create a Mr Men book to fundraise for Paw Justice. Whilst raising money for a great cause, the book was also about highlighting the importance of accepting difference at a grass-roots level.

Peter Alexander discusses this collaboration, “Penny was my dog and now ambassador to my brand and she was different, she had very short legs.” He adds, “The book tells the story of how she learns to embrace her differences in the world of Mr Men.”

“Little Miss Hug delivers the message that it is important to feel comfortable in your own skin, whether you’re a Mr Tall, Mr Small, Little Miss Bossy or a Mr Greedy- we’re all special in our own unique ways,” says Adam Hargreaves.

“It’s nice to see Little Miss Hug on adventures with Penny – they make a fantastic twosome!” Mr Hargreaves said.

“We are honoured to be supported by Peter Alexander, and are behind his message 100%. Animals are no different to people – we need to treat them all the same and not differentiate between them based on our perceptions of breed traits, looks or temperament. They all deserve our love, attention and care. We hope this book helps our young people to be more empathetic towards each other, and our furry friends.” Craig Dunn, Paw Justice.

Peter Alexander is hoping the sales of the book take the total of money raised for animal charities across New Zealand and Australia to an impressive half a million dollars.

Little Miss Hug and Penny the Dog: Available for $9.99 at all Peter Alexander stores and online at www.peteralexander.co.nz. 100% of proceeds go to Paw Justice www.pawjustice.co.nz

Be sure to meet Peter Alexander in-store on the following dates…

NEW BALANCE

Sometimes it’s the covert ones that have the most to say. That looks to be the case with this new “Stealth” take on the humble New Balance 574 that are out in limited supply (trust us when we say ‘limited supply’ – we’ve jumped on these pretty damn quick and already sizes are selling out quicker than you can say New Balance Classics). Built with a street-ready heavy black mix of honeycomb-synthetic leather, tonal microfiber, and even black kevlar running along the tongue, these kicks are as tough as they come. Inside, the insoles reveal a custom-printed twist to the branding that join the white midsole to provide the support and only contrast you’ll see on these sneaky sneaks.

GHD CURVE TOOLS
ghd, the innovators in heat styling, announce the launch of their first ever range of curling tools – ghd curve – to give gorgeous, shiny, healthier curls that stay up all night long.

The four product range featuring two wands and two tongs, has been created in response to research conducted by ghd, which revealed women want a premium styling tool that allows them to easily and quickly create curls that last. God knows we’ve been terrible at trying to re-create anything that resembles a TV-ad curl, but if we can do it using ghd’s new curve tools, believe us when we say “anyone can create curls at home using any of these four genius curl creators”.  ghd curve tackles the issue of curl-drop by utilising patented tri-zoneTM technology. Six quick-thinking sensors in the barrel heat the tools to the optimum styling temperature of 185°C and maintain this heat, constantly and evenly, delivering long-lasting, healthier-looking curls – that last. ghd curve makes styling faster too; rapid heat-up; the ability to load more hair onto the barrel and a quick set time means looks can be created in minimal time with maximum results and without compromising hair health. And just quietly, we’re a little partial to the ‘creative curl wand’…

The ghd curve range offers a tool for every hair length and type, each creating a unique, yet long-lasting style (each ghd curve retails at RRP$250.)

  • ghd curve soft curl tong – To create the voluptuous volume look: A 32mm large barrel with spring activated lever gives volume at the roots and creates big, bouncy, beautiful curls.
  • ghd curve classic curl tong – To achieve the classic curl look: A 26mm medium barrel with spring activated lever forms consistent curls for classic style and volume.
  • ghd creative curl wand – To create the laid back luxe look: A tapered conical barrel creates natural looking curls and deep waves for a beautiful beachy style.
  • ghd curve classic wave wand – To achieve Hollywood waves: The oval-shaped wand creates edgy, deep, shimmering waves and glamorous movement.

LINDI KINGI
It’s not often we get to meet face-to-face with one of our favourite jewellery designers, but when there’s a designer that creates everything you wish you could if you were half as talented, you make the time to catch up! And what an added delight it is when we discover this queen-of-cool is as uber-chic, fun, bubbly and charming, as the jewellery she creates.

Spring/Summer Lust List: Our Most Coveted SS14 Must-Haves…

Recently Lindi Kingi has not only launched her latest collection ‘Alchemy’, she’s also collaborated with the equally delightful Jaime Ridge, to launch Jaime’s collection – Forella.

We are obsessed with all things Lindi Kingi. If you’ve not yet discovered this talented designer – prepare to fall in love…

Alchemy – a form of chemistry + philosophy concerned with changing base metals into precious ones, finding a universal remedy and an elixir of life, any magical power or process that changes a common substance into something of value. Minimal, authentic and a little closer to the shadows, Lindi Kingi’s new range – Alchemy, takes us back to the Lindi Kingi origins of romance + darkness. The evolution or devolution of Lindi Kingi deluxe has felt like alchemy… the magical process of taking an idea and turning it into a reality. A reality we want to own – the entire collection…

Spring/Summer Lust List: Our Most Coveted SS14 Must-Haves…
Also worth checking out – Lindi Kingi’s new sleepwear line (we say sleepwear – but we’d wear every piece any time, day or night)

Nicki Minaj has been cooking up a potion of her own, and god dammit it’s cast one hell of a spell on us! The “Pills N Potions” artist has released ‘Nicki Minaj Onika’ an exotic edition of ‘Minajesty’. Of course, the bottle features Nicki’s face glammed up in her signature pink lipstick and bedazzled bustier. On Minajesty, she wears a blonde wig, while on Onika she wears the ‘new Nicki’ hairdo, in all black. Nicki describes her new perfume ‘Onika’ on Instagram as “angels in the garden of perfection”, and perfection it is! If you’re a fan of Taylor Swift’s perfumes (sweet, seasonal fruits, with a dash of sugar cane deliciousness) then you’re going to fall in love with Nicki’s latest smash hit! This addictive scent (trust us – it’s addictive, we’ve been spritzing this one daily) is absolutely captivating and utterly alluring! CHAMPAGNE SUPERNOVAS – by MAUREEN CALLAHAN
If ever there was a spring-read – this is the book! The ’50s had rock ‘n roll and the ’60s had the drugs. In the ’70s and ’80s it was punk rock and modern art. But the 1990s was the decade of the supermodel, grunge, Winona Ryder, Kurt Cobain and BritPop.

It was all about fashion and Kate Moss, Marc Jacobs, and Alexander McQueen were the trio  of rebel geniuses who made it great. Each had an amazing talent and each had demons that would jeopardise that same talent. Collectively, they represented a “moment” in fashion and pop culture that upended everything that had come before it. In the tradition of pop-cultural histories like Girls Like Us and Easy Rider, Raging Bulls, Maureen Callahan explores a particular, pivotal time – the moment when the 1980s gave way to the 1990s, the alternative became the mainstream, and Gen X took over the reins of power in the fashion industry – through the lives of three people who would become both fashion icons and cautionary tales of era.

Callahan interviews insiders and reveals exclusive insights into the biggest dramas surrounding the most celebrated personalities of the decade; why Kate Moss and Johnny Depp broke up, how Marc Jacobs came through the crucible of the AIDS crisis, and what really drove Alexander McQueen to suicide.

For fashion & book-lovers and hipsters alike, THIS is our ‘must-read’ book of the season…

BURBERRY – MY BURBERRY
Summed up perfectly by Burberry’s Christopher Bailey, Chief Creative and Chief Executive Officer “My Burberry is the true embodiment of our brand, in scent, in design and in attitude. A fragrance that takes its lead from the iconic Burberry trench has to be outstanding in every way.”

My Burberry takes its name from the affectionate way in which people refer to their Burberry trench coat. A timeless classic – the scent is the ultimate expression of the brand’s past and future. My Burberry is a grand floral fragrance with an unexpected edge; the scent is confident and beautifully elegant, yet understated in a typically British way.

Spring/Summer Lust List: Our Most Coveted SS14 Must-Haves…

The new My Burberry fragrance launches globally with a campaign featuring British global fashion icons Kate Moss and Cara Delevingne, shot together for the first time. In addition to the fragrance, a capsule collection of My Burberry ready-to-wear pieces and accessories, as well as a dedicated make-up look created around the iconic trench coat, will be released to coincide with the launch, continuing to demonstrate the brand’s unique ability to bring together the worlds of fashion and beauty.

My Burberry captures the fragrance of a London garden after the rain. Top notes of sweet pea and bergamot fuse with a heart of geranium, golden quince and freesia, rounded out with base notes of rain-tipped damask and centifolia roses and patchouli. Referencing the Burberry trench coat colour palette, the My Burberry juice is reminiscent of the signature honey shade, one of the three colours used in the brand’s Heritage Trench Coat collection.

Absolutely stunning – this is one sophisticated scent you’ll be proudly donning, just as you would a Burberry garment! RRP ranges from $130 – $255.

Levi’s Celebrates The 80th Anniversary Of Women’s Jeans…

Levi Strauss & Co Celebrates The 80th Anniversary Of Women's Levi’s Jeans

Eighty years ago, Levi Strauss & Co. took a risk that forever changed the course of women’s fashion.  In September 1934, the company introduced “Lady Levi’s® jeans” – the world’s first jeans made exclusively for women. Originally created as men’s workwear, jeans are now a fashion must-have around the globe, with women’s jeanswear leading the way in denim trends each season.

Levi Strauss & Co. originally created jeans for workingmen in 1873, but the category has since seen a dramatic shift with the advent of the first jeans for women. Today, new fits, fabrics and finish innovations are typically first developed to meet women’s needs and tastes and are driven by the demands of the women’s market.

Despite the latest high-tech finishing techniques for women’s jeans, today’s most popular styles – the iconic 501® boyfriend jean and short, innovative Levi’s® Revel™ line, and must-have Skinny – trace their ancestry back to the earliest jeans developed by Levi Strauss & Co.

Inspired by the jean that started it all, the Levi’s® 501® short and jean have been loved by generations of style icons, subtly evolving for each new decade of influencers.

THE DENIM TIMELINE

Pre-1934: Women in the West began wearing their husbands’ or brothers’ Levi’s® 501® jeans, the original blue jeans first created in 1873. These pants were sturdy enough to handle the rough life of a rancher. These original Levi’s® 501® jeans worn by women foreshadow the current “Boyfriend” jeans popular today.

Levi Strauss & Co Celebrates The 80th Anniversary Of Women's Levi’s Jeans

1934: The first pair of women’s Lady Levi’s® jeans are created. Assigned lot number 701 to distinguish them from men’s jeans (Lot 501), the original pairs were aimed at women working on ranches and sold in several Western states.

1930s &1940s: Sales of women’s jeans begin to take off due to the growing popularity of dude ranches. High-end department stores Best & Co. and H. Kauffman & Sons Saddlery Company carried Levi’s® jeans to meet this new demand.

Levi Strauss & Co Celebrates The 80th Anniversary Of Women's Levi’s Jeans

1950s: Lady Levi’s® jeans are sold throughout the United States alongside men’s Levi’s® 501® jeans and the classic denim jacket. Women’s jeans also switched from button-fly to zipper.

1960s: Amid a tumultuous cultural revolution, denim becomes a staple in women’s wardrobes. Jeans become an icon of rebellion that’s adopted by both men and women. The brand introduces a slimmer fitting jean –the precursor to the modern Skinny jean.Stretch women’s jeans became popular among teenage girls.

1970s: Levi’s® women’s jeans range offers a variety fashion fits, including the “full” and “straight” leg jeans, and the “jean cuffs.” Flares and bell-bottoms also become popular styles.

1980s: The Levi’s® brand introduces the famous 501® jeans for women in 1981. The brand introduces stonewashing to women’s jeans just two years later in 1983.

1990s: TheLevi’s® brand offers a series of premium denim and continues to make a wide range of jeans – including the 501®, 550™, 512™ Slim fits.

2002: The Levi’s® brand launches Super Low jeans for women, driving the trend to new heights.

2010: The Levi’s® brand sets a new standard for fit with the launch of Levi’s® Curve ID.

2013: The Levi’s brand launches Levi’s® Revel™  jeans–an innovative line offering patent-pending shaping technology, cutting-edge design techniques, all in an engineered fit that helps women look and feel their best everyday.

Today: Celebrating 80 years of denim leadership, the Levi’s® brand remains the top seller of women’s jeans worldwide and continues to offer the hottest styles for the holiday season including the innovative Levi’s® Revel™ line, a range of skinnies and the iconic 501®.

NZFW: STOLEN GIRLFRIENDS CLUB ‘THE GUILTY ONES’ FALL/WINTER 2015

NZFW: STOLEN GIRLFRIENDS CLUB 'THE GUILTY ONES' FALL/WINTER 2015

Held at the Western Springs Speedway, Stolen Girlfriends Club (SGC) presented a sinister whodunit with their Fall/Winter 2015 collection, aptly named The Guilty Ones – where utilitarian glamour meets camping grunge.

SGC showcased their signature grunge edge, with the added twist of utilitarianism and ‘50’s styling in a nod to David Lynch’s Twin Peaks. The result – a collection shrouded in mystery, suspicion and intrigue.

NZFW: STOLEN GIRLFRIENDS CLUB 'THE GUILTY ONES' FALL/WINTER 2015

Heroing ‘The Guilty Ones’ collection – leather; and leather aplenty! Leather jackets of varying lengths accompany full-quilted skirts, shorts and sweaters. Glitter-coated cotton canvas is dressed down with shearling collars and ‘mom jeans’ and glammed up in stiff ‘50s skirting and glitter ankle boots. Backpacks, totes, chunky shoes and boots complete the look.

NZFW: STOLEN GIRLFRIENDS CLUB 'THE GUILTY ONES' FALL/WINTER 2015

Next up in the SGC whodunit – Stolen takes to the forest… hiding in a hunter camo print that on closer inspection reveals micro multi-coloured hand drawn figures, scattered to form a camouflage. Plaid coats, kilts, dresses and shirting has a Swanndri edge and shell jackets in shower proof memory yard nylons are adorned with misplaced embroidered badges for a DIY feel. The Dark Tropic motif reinvents a Hawaiian print in blues and berries with Laura Palmer’s hand ominously emerging from the water amongst a backdrop of menacing rock clusters and dark pine trees.

NZFW: STOLEN GIRLFRIENDS CLUB 'THE GUILTY ONES' FALL/WINTER 2015

Tough buckles and strappings adorn Stolen’s heavy shearling and chunky melton knitwear. Luxe knits in both form-fitting and boxy shapes stands out in bold yellow 100% merino and a grunge-luxe charcoal melange. Printed jacquard knits and placement print sweaters echo the collection’s guilty verdict.

NZFW: STOLEN GIRLFRIENDS CLUB 'THE GUILTY ONES' FALL/WINTER 2015

SGC’s hardwear and embellishments feature a dark edge with hand sewn black jewels forming guns, daggers, axes and broken hearts clustered over a denim boiler suit and black floor length evening gown fit for homecoming queen Laura Palmer.

Fashion Week Essentials: A Blogger’s Guide to Fashion Week….

Fashion Week Essentials: A Blogger's Guide to Fashion Week….

New Zealand Fashion Week (NZFW) 2014 is finally upon us, and as designers are gearing up to show their collections, we’re preparing for a week of short deadlines, multiple shows per day, and lots of mingling. We’ve compiled a list of essentials necessary for staying organised and surviving fashion week intact. Here, we list our tips (a few of our fellow fashion-week-bloggers have contributed to this ‘fashion week essentials’ write-up) on pre-show prep, on-site must-haves and after-show care. From setting your out-of-office notification, to the perfect bold lippy, our fave footwear, through to fashion week etiquette.

Fashion Week Essentials: A Blogger's Guide to Fashion Week….
First things first – you are no doubt going to miss a tonne of emails while you’re immersed in Fashion Week, so turn your out-of-office notification on and let PR’s and anyone else trying to contact you during this time, know when you’ll next be coming up for air!

Pack your camera, a fully charged battery and a spare memory card the night before. Newbies to fashion week, take note… an iPad is NOT an acceptable form of capturing images. Using an iPad during any runway show is not fashion week etiquette! You’re simply blocking photographer’s shots and annoying everyone around you.

Phone/Charger – charge your phone overnight and pack a charger. There will be access to power in the venue and a bloggers gotta ‘gram & tweet right?!

Laptop and charger – hopefully you’re lucky enough to have access to the media room, where in between shows you can get a few of your write-ups completed; and without a laptop (and charger) you will be losing valuable writing time.

Bring a notebook – as old-school as it may sound in this digital age (and yes, I know there are apps for keeping notes) trying to type on a phone while models are drifting down the runway is near impossible and you don’t want to forget the important details now do you? A notebook is a neccessity for writing about all the detailing on the garments, remembering the hero prints and all other newsworthy information. Plus, just as I prefer a book to reading a novel on a Kindle, I can’t go past a fabulous notebook, like this ‘fucking brilliant journal’ from macyhome.co.nz Fashion Week Essentials: A Blogger's Guide to Fashion Week…. While still on ‘media room’ access – I highly recommend headphones if you are hoping to pump out those editorials (admittedly I’m far too swept up in catching up with out-of-town friends that I don’t get to see all that often as we all come together for NZFW, to put on headphones) but be warned, the media room can be a hustle and bustle of noise, especially if you’re in there at the same time as me, Anya (from Beautiful Bedlam) and Sopheak (from SopheakSeng.com) – our laughter is loud and aplenty!

Label your gear! I cannot stress this enough! In the media room, chargers are flying back and forth, coats and jackets are swept up in a flurry as editors scramble to make the next show. Phones, notebooks, water bottles, laptops and cameras through to cardigans – most of our gear all looks the same. Cue shameless plug… I was lucky enough to receive a Brother P-Touch Label Maker earlier this month (my partner in organisational crime) and being the OCD freak that I am, I WILL be utilising this to stamp my mark on all my gear (yip – it even prints labels for clothing/fabric). If you don’t happen to have media room access, you should still label your gear, as NZFW does have a ‘lost and found’ box and yes, there are still some honest people out there that hand in items they’ve happened upon (I even had someone chase me out of the main runway room as they saw from a few rows back that I’d dropped my phone as I stood up and they followed me until they could return it. Bless you phone-returning stranger!) Fashion Week Essentials: A Blogger's Guide to Fashion Week…. Business cards – bring them, a lot of them. Fashion week equals making new friends and networking, networking, networking!

Bottled water and  Nurofen – Champagne at 3pm can cause headaches by 9pm.

Keep your nails in check – bring your nail polish with you to touch up any unsightly chips. If you’re OCD like me, or just want to ensure you’re nail-faux-par-free, having the same colour in your bag as you’re sporting on your nails will make touch-ups easy! We’ll be donning ARTDECO’s new spring range – Art Couture Nail Lacquer… Fashion Week Essentials: A Blogger's Guide to Fashion Week….Footwear – wedges, sneakers and flats are your friends! If you’re a heels wearer – I suggest you keep a pair of ballet flats in your bag – preferably a pair that are compact, such as Fairy Feet. They’re so incredibly handy to pop on between shows and they come in a range of colours – you can check them out here: www.fairyfeet.co.nz

Sneakers are totally acceptable form of footwear at New Zealand Fashion Week and I for one will be sporting sneakers to a few shows. My sneaker of choice will be either my trusty converse, or a pair of the never-fail, New Balance kicks… Fashion Week Essentials: A Blogger's Guide to Fashion Week…. A snack bar or fruit –  just in case there’s no time to go out for food… sure, there are generally some snacks in your goodie bags, but you can only live on Jaffas and Liquorice Allsorts for so long (and trust me, I survived on these items alone for an entire day last year, the sugar come-down wasn’t pretty!).

Downtime and afterhours – I recently received these new eyeSlices (reuseable eye treatment pads) and my first thought upon receiving them – they are going to be a lifesaver during NZFW.  I’ve already been trialling them in the run up to fashion week and I’m in love! They deliver five key active ingredients to address five common eye concerns.  It’s a good excuse to put your feet up and take five minutes to relax – while combating premature ageing, puffiness, redness, dark circles and tiredness around the eye area. RRP $37 (which includes a pair of eyeSlices® pads and a clam or storage container to store them in between uses). For more info head to www.eyeslices.co.nz Fashion Week Essentials: A Blogger's Guide to Fashion Week…. Beauty essentials – these are our beauty must-haves during NZFW… Lucas paw paw (for dehydrated lips, to apply to blisters caused by heels, to combat unwanted blemishes, yeah it’s an all-in-one balm). There was no way we would create a ‘beauty essentials’ piece and not include MAC Cosmetics… MAC strobe cream (we all own this right?) the perfect hydrator/illuminator/foundation base – ahhh the list goes on, it does A LOT! MAC Face & Body foundation for touch-ups throughout the day; and since we’re still infatuated with MAC’s ‘The Simpsons’ collection (available in-store 4th September), we’ll be donning one or two key pieces from the range. And our number one ‘go to’ bold lip colours for NZFW are: MACs Ruby Woo, Lady Danger & Pure Heroine.

Fashion Week Essentials: A Blogger's Guide to Fashion Week….

If we’ve left any ‘fashion week essentials’ off the list that you think should be included, we’d love you to share yours with us, so leave us a comment and let us know.
