A vacant warehouse in Newmarket housed the release of Stolen Girlfriend Club’s Spring collection, ‘Nasty Goreng’, last night. A sea of beanie-wearing guests (I counted 14 beanie wearers within the first 10 minutes of arriving) were treated to a sneak preview of the eclectic range, as well as a first glimpse of the brand new MINI Paceman as it took off down the runway in all its ‘Death Moth’ print glory.
The MINI Paceman, the seventh member of the MINI family, boasts a muscular coupé silhouette that incorporates a strong, clearly emphasised wedge shape formed by the downward-sloping roof line and the steadily rising shoulder line. This engaging character is continued in the interior which includes new design elements that create a lounge-like atmosphere.
‘Nasty Goreng’ sees Stolen Girlfriends Club pull back a dusty velvet curtain and peek into the seedy intrigue of a downtown East meets West. With a mix of worn fatigues and kitsch satin, they present a collection that’s both witty and wearable, and features their most daring colour palette to date.
The range boasts an ornate signature print of flower bombs and death moths, set against aqua-mint or black and used in sand-washed silk dresses and blouses. Hand brushed leopard markings in red, and pearly white make their way onto silky jumpsuits & lingerie styled dresses. Lilac lace that features a leopard pattern that comes to life in ball-dresses and contrast panelling.
Back by popular demand are some Stolen staples – the Romance pant and silk wrap short – and for the first time, neoprene is used in full-hemmed prom dresses, jackets and sweat-shirting. Soft, desert-wash linen is used in day dresses and the story ends with a demure cluster of black silk-blend jacquard for the girls.
In menswear, the offering is easy; layered waterproof jackets, moth-eaten knits, oversized wool shorts, waterproof pleated pants and a heavy-duty wool biker jacket are among the key pieces alongside signature print shirts and tee’s. The silk bomber is going to be a clear favourite among the fashion pack. A nod to Versace sees an antique gold tiger embroidered onto the back, also working its way onto sweatshirts and tee’s.
I have to say, although damned cold in the carpark – Stolen Girlfriends Club certainly know how to put on a show! Check out some of the highlights from the event…
Nasty Goreng will be available in stores July & August 2013
