Sorbet, Chocolate and Wonderbar delights…

So recently I’ve discovered the delightful hair care range – Sorbet (I know right? Where have I been?) Those of you that have already tried something from the Sorbet Sensational Solids’ range will be fully aware of just how great these fabulous products are, BUT – did you know that they’ve now produced Bon Bon Bars? No? Well you simply must try them!  Who doesn’t want a chocolatey treat for their hair [she says whilst indulging in an edible chocolate bar ha ha].

What’s the Bon Bon bar all about and what does it do?
Glad you asked! Other than looking & smelling like an actual chocolate bar (that appears to have been conjured straight from the imagination of Willie Wonker himself) it’s actually a Protein Treatment bar.  This chocolatey treat adds smoothness, shine and gloss to your hair, all without artificial colours, fragrances or any unsafe ingredients.  It smells absolutely divine and this is all due to the Organic Fairtrade Cocoa Butter that they’ve used to make this protein boosting bonanza.  It’s super easy to use – you simply snap off a square (I kinda cheated and used 2, look I have really long hair ok – don’t judge me, I swear it isn’t about greed) mix it with 1/3 cup of boiled water and let sit. After approximately 2 minutes, mix vigorously  until you get a smooth consistency and apply it to your hair (concentrate of length and tips).  You can leave it on your hair for anywhere between 1 – 8 hours. I’m impatient and have a-million-and-one things on the go at the moment, so I only left it on for an hour.  This was more than enough time for the Bon Bon bar to work it’s magic.  This is seriously good stuff and one bar will give you 8 treatments (unless you’re a little more indulgent like me, and use 2 at a time).

Now for those of you that haven’t yet tried any Sorbet products, a couple of other amazing treats from the range (which I’ve also been recently using) – the Damage Control Solid Shampoo Bar (if you suffer from dry damaged hair and use heated hair tools a lot – this is the one for you!) which has a delicious peppermint candy cane scent, along with the Wonderbar Solid Conditioning Bar – a rich conditioner that invokes memories of long days at the beach with its buttery-vanilla & coconut scent.

Sorbet Sensational Solids, Sorbet, Haircare, Shampoo bars, Bon Bon, Beauty, Hair, beauty media nz, beauty blog nz, fashion blog nz, style blog nz, fashion media nz, freelance writer nz, journalist nz, angie fredatovich, gurlinterrupted.com

If that’s not enough to tempt you to pick up a Sorbet Sensational Solids bar – you should know that Sorbet is a company that is dedicated to creating environmentally friendly, packaging-free products. Their bars are wrapped in water-soluble paper – you simply take the whole lot in the shower and the wrapper will disappear, leaving your divine bar behind ready for use – how cool is that?! Plus their bars are biodegradable, paraben free, certified cruelty-free and, well – they smell amazing.  Sorbet (and their suppliers) have a ‘no animal testing’ policy in place (big tick from me!), contain NO animal ingredients whatsoever, are certified Climate Neutral and their products are locally made! If that doesn’t make them pretty darn special enough, they also donate monthly to both SAFE and WSPA.  Nice work Sorbet!!

Want to get your hands on some of these delightful sweet treats?  Head over to their website www.sorbetcosmetics.com and shop away to your heart’s content – without even having to leave the house.

NEW YORK IN BLOOM: Elizabeth Arden’s Limited Edition Spring/Summer 2013 Collection…

Elizabeth Arden, New York In Bloom, Beauty, makeup, eyeshadow, bronzer, nails, beauty blog nz, fashion blog nz, style blog nz, beauty media nz, fashion media nz, angie fredatovich, gurlinterrupted.com

Today I shot the new collection from Elizabeth Arden – NEW YORK IN BLOOM.  Inspired by the vibrancy of blossoming flowers in the city, New York in Bloom blends a kaleidoscope of bold, urban colours and soft neutrals. This is Elizabeth Arden’s new Spring/Summer 2013 Limited Colour Collection and it is beyond amazing. It’s not just the beautiful packaging that caught my eye – the product is stunning! Set into palettes embossed with delicate blooms so lovely – you almost don’t want to touch them they are that pretty!

From the intelligently packaged 2-in-1 nail varnish (finally someone had the nous to combine a base/top coat with the actual nail colour), the colour combination of the eyeshadow palette, through to the bronzer that has such a fabulous iridescence it could actually be used as a face illuminator or highlighter, and don’t even get me started on the eye pencil in ‘platinum’ – the perfect hue to set off the tones in the shadow palettes, this collection is set to bit a huge hit for Elizabeth Arden.

Pure Finish Radiant Bronzing Powder
This is available in both ‘Soft’ and ‘Warm’. I opted for ‘soft’ as there is enough of a golden bronze colour to give a beautiful sun-kissed glow when used as a bronzer, yet includes enough light iridescent hues to be able to use it as a face illuminator or highlighter.

Available in Viridian Bloom (blue/green) and Violet Bloom (pink/violet). A trio of colours that compliment each other perfectly with a matte chocolate and a shimmery blush-pink and nude. I’ve opted for Violet Bloom as these colours best compliment green or hazel eyes – I cant wait to get started on a tutorial using this palette.

Nail Lacquer Duo
Available in Purple Orchid and Teal Blossom. Containing a quality base/top coat that makes for a compact 2-in-1 and the perfect size to pop into your purse (great for OCD people like me as it’s perfect for nail touch-ups on the go!).

Bold Eye Pencil
Available in Iridescent Teal, Platinum Glow and Terra.  I chose ‘platinum’ as this is the most unique colour I’ve ever seen in an eye pencil.  A gorgeous glowing hue that looks like a cross between a nude and white, yet not quite a cream.  Very hard to describe but its warm and soft yet bold and bright all the same time. Perfect to blend with the violet bloom eye-shadow trio and will make for a fabulous eye-brightener when applied on the inner eye-line.

Beauty Babe On A Budget – I’ve Got Your Beauty Product Dupes Sorted!

Beauty, Makeup, Dupes, Australis, cosmetics, Australis, MAC, Bobbi Brown, Za Cosmetics, Urban Decay, Maybelline, beauty blog nz, fashion blog nz, style blog nz, beauty media nz, fashion media nz, angie fredatovich, gurlinterrupted.com

So I was thinking about this on the weekend after a couple of friends kindly pointed out that I could potentially ‘end world hunger’ if all my makeup was converted into dollars’.  Personally I think this is a slight exaggeration and I did try to justify my beauty addiction by stating that ‘not ALL my makeup products are high-end brands’. Yes, a lot of them are (slight MAC obsessed, I’ll admit), but I also have a tonne of makeup that isn’t ‘high-end’ and they’re great!

I’m pretty sure any makeup artist will confirm that the day we’re told we’ve qualified, is the day we tend to go a little beauty-product-crazy, filling our makeup kits with every single item we were ever shown how to use (this is NOT good when you trained using MAC – cha ching!).  I don’t even do makeup artistry as my chosen profession (no friends – your events do not qualify as my full-time job) and yet still I keep my kit jam-packed with all the latest beauty goodies and add to this kit almost weekly.  However, following the ‘end world poverty’ comment – I  went through my beauty closet and showed them all the duplicates (dupes) I own that most people wouldn’t even realise is a dupe for a high-end brand; and these more wallet-friendly brands are just as good.  You just gotta know what to look for.  So I’ve collated a few dupes that I use, which I thought [see: hope] you might find useful to…

Cheek Highlighters/Face Illuminators: $20 Australis vs $50 Benefit
This is one of my new faves at the moment – the Australis ‘High Lights’ face highlighter.  Now this one is seriously JUST like the highly coveted Benefit High Beam & Girl Meets Pearl (it also gives the same payoff as MAC’s Extra Dimension face illuminator).  The consistency is exactly like High Beam and is simply stunning, sans the stunning price tag. If you love that blown-out, cheek-poppin, radiant makeup look – you will love an illuminating product and I personally think that this Australis Face Highlighter is as good as any other face highlighter on the market.

Lip Gloss/Lipstick: $16 Za Cosmetics vs $31 Bobbi Brown
The Bobbi Brown lip gloss in ‘Pretty In Pink’ is a fabulous gloss that suits pretty much everyone, so of course it’s popular and in-turn has a price-tag that matches it’s popularity. The thing with gloss is that you tend to go through it pretty darn fast and this can make things quite expensive.  The Za ‘Plumper Lips’ Lipstick in ‘Pink Pearl’ is the perfect dupe for Bobbi Brown’s Pretty In Pink gloss!  It’s the same hue, consistency and wearability.  It even has the added benefit of a plumper, so you’ll have fabulous kissable lips.

Eye Liner Pencil: $10 Australis vs $36 MAC
Now I love MAC eye liners (especially their eye kohl’s) as much as the next person (and admittedly probably own way too many of them) however if you are wanting to buy a variety of hues, this is going cost you some serious bucks. At $36 dollars a pop – it adds up really fast.  The Australis 10-hour-wear eye pencils are fabulous! They’re long wearing, have a beautiful kohl consistency and wont break the bank if you are wanting to buy a variety of colours.  The one that I use regularly is the Bombastic Bronze (I prefer a brown liner, as I think black liners tend to look a little too heavy during the day).  This is a fab dupe for MAC’s two most beautiful brown eye pencils – Lord It Up & Powerchrome.

Liquid Eye Liner: $10 Maybelline vs $45 Urban Decay
The Urban Decay 24/7 Liquid Liner in ‘Perversion’ (black) is another makeup product favoured by beauty gurus worldwide and has quite the cult following.  The reason for this is (other than Urban Decay being a fabulous makeup brand) it’s easy to apply, has a great applicator, it lasts ALL DAY and there’s no peeling, cracking or fading! (plus it dries with a glossy finish which I love).  The Maybelline Line Stiletto in ‘blackest black’ would be the best dupe for UD’s 24/7 liquid liner that I’ve ever come across.  Same long-wear durability, a great applicator, has a beautiful finish and again – there’s no cracking, peeling or fading.

Concealer: $10 Za vs $40 MAC
MAC Select Cover Concealer in my opinion is one of MAC’s best concealers.  The reason for it’s popularity is it’s light in consistency, yet gives great coverage. It doesn’t cake in creases, can be matched to a broad range of skin tones and I find it’s super hydrating.  It is however, a small pottle and if you use concealer to cover and lighten more than just under your eyes, you can go through it pretty fast.  I’ve looked at a few wallet-friendly dupes over the years and this Za ”Perfect Fit’ concealer would be the closest thing to MAC’s Select Cover that I’ve found.  It has all the great qualities of the MAC Select Cover Concealer for a fraction of the price.

Makeup Brushes: $10 – $40 per brush SIGMA vs $60 – $100 per brush MAC
Ahh Makeup Brushes – this is a big one to tackle.  Makeup brushes are a beauty babe essential and it really is a case of quality above all else.  Poor quality makeup brushes equal poor makeup application and a lot of fallout (not just the product – but the actual bristles). Makeup brushes determine how every piece of makeup performs. They determine the colour payoff of your eyeshadow. They are the difference between a flawless foundation application that looks so good it could’ve been photoshopped, versus a ‘cakey’ application. They are THE key tool in your makeup bag. As I said previously, I went was taught makeup artistry using MAC products and MAC will always have a special place in my heart, however their prices for brushes are pretty darned expensive.  Ahhh but they are GOOD! [stop it Ange!].  Sorry, as I was saying…  To get one decent kit with a good variety of brushes, you are talking some SERIOUS coin!  For the last few years I have become obsessed with Sigma brushes (and I think makeup artists worldwide are now tending to lean towards a mix of both MAC and Sigma brushes). They are the same quality as MAC and are actually pretty affordable when you’re talking makeup brushes.  For the cost of an entire Sigma brush set I paid $230.  You don’t want to know what I paid for my first entire set of MAC brushes!  Let’s just say that for the cost of a whole set of sigma brushes, you’d get about 4 MAC brushes.  Don’t get me wrong, there will always be the iconic faves that MAC produces – the MAC 217 for example, but in actual fact the Sigma E40 and E55 are just as amazing! For me they have gone past the point of ‘dupes’ and are a staple in my makeup kit.  I have a Sigma Members Discount Code, so if you’re planning on giving Sigma a go, feel free to grab my 10% discount code from my blog homepage (the square banner situated on the right hand-side) or use the jump here: SIGMA BRUSHES.  Now I’m not saying ‘you must buy a whole set of brushes or your makeup world is forever doomed’, I’m definitely not suggesting that at all. We’re just talking dupes and I personally think Sigma is the ultimate in makeup brush dupes when it comes to a more affordable alternative to the pricier brands.  In reality, if you’re just starting out, or only dabble in makeup, all you really need is a great shader, a decent foundation and blush brush and you’re good to go.  There’s no reason to go all out with a whole set of professional brushes, just grab your basics and build on your brush collection as your confidence with makeup grows.

If you’d like to see more posts like this one – specifically on eyeshadow palette dupes, foundation dupes, or just more dupes in general, let me know by leaving a comment below and I’ll get started on the next installment of ‘Beauty Babe On A Budget’.

And before you go dissing ‘wallet-friendly’ makeup brands, BEWARE!  You don’t want to end up with egg on your face by saying ‘they aren’t as good as high-end brands’, because without letting any insider secrets slip, you’d be amazed at just how many ‘budget brands’ are actually produced by the exact same brands producing your high-end expensive makeup.

Marilyn Monroe Is Brought Back To Life…

One of the world’s most iconic screen sirens may have died back in 1962, but did Marilyn Monroe ever really leave us?  Monroe was an American actress, model, and singer, who became a major sex symbol, starring in a number of commercially successful motion pictures during the 1950s and early 1960s.

Christened Norma Jeane Baker, Monroe  has always had a special place in my heart – I’ve read every book about her, watched all her movies and have always been infatuated with the haunting mystery that she held in her eyes.  Yes, she was a blonde bombshell and looked the picture of ‘Hollywood’ donning her famous red pout and billowing white dress, but every now and then a photograph would capture her sadness, and I found myself intrigued and wanting to know more about her and what or who it was that sadly cut her life short. If I could bring one person back for just a day to ask them all my unanswered questions – I would certainly choose Marilyn.

Well, I may not have all my questions answer, however, it would seem the brand ‘Sexy Hair’ is just as infatuated with the actress. Monroe appears in a new series of ads for Sexy Hair, which has billed the ad campaign with the tagline, “Styles Change. Sexy is Forever.”

For Miss Monroe, “forever” is certainly not too far from the truth. As reported in the Huffington Post “Sexy Hair licensed the rights to Monroe’s name, quotes and image from Authentic Brands Group, which owns all the rights to her estate, and will be launching an extensive campaign come October”.

And so the iconic actress once again makes headlines. Following in the footsteps of Vanity Fair – for which she has graced many a cover, Christian Dior  – who also harnessed the power of Monroe in the 2011 J’Adore Dior commercial starring Charlize Theron with a digitized Marilyn, Grace Kelly and Marlene Dietrich, Sexy Hair has also captured her timeless appeal.

So, what do you think of the new ads featuring Monroe?   Do you feel sad that she is selling hair product?  Or are you happy to see her star in her own campaign? Personally, as a huge Monroe fan, I think its fabulous and Miss M would be happy to still be winning leading roles in campaigns such as this…

July Beauty Discoveries… Needle-Free Botox, Body Conditioner, Natural BB Creams & More

LUSH RO'S ARGAN BODY CONDITIONER, OASIS Beauty NZ, BB Cream, VERITAE ORGANIC SKINCARE, COSIMA FLAWLESS CREAM, Beauty, beauty blog nz, july beauty favourites, style blog nz,

July has certainly been a month of new beauty discoveries.  I’ve come across all new natural BB Creams, Botox sans the needles, a handmade organic skincare range and rediscovered my love for a certain LUSH product.

I thought I would kick things off with Cosima Flawless Cream as this one caught my attention straight away.  Basically described as ‘Botox without needles’. Containing ground breaking prescription strength organic cosmeceuticals, Cosima believe anti-aging skincare should be safe, effective and free of toxins.  This needle-free Botox in a bottle is said to target the signs of aging such as fine lines, loss of elasticity, firmness, tone and vascular imperfections (that’s those annoying little red veins that start to show through as you age).  If you’ve considered Botox, but the thought of needles (and not knowing what it contains) is just too scary – you might want to give this natural botox alternative a whirl.

Oasis Beauty is based in the South Island and operates from an old railway cottage dating back to 1898.  They specialise in multifunctional products that represent convenience, value for money and efficacy for their customers with an emphasis on sun protection and sensitive skin.  This ‘company with a conscience’ takes in rescue animals on site (for the love, NOT for testing of course) and their charity of choice is WSPA – so Oasis has completely won my heart already!!! But it’s not just about Oasis Beauty having a conscience and a big heart – you know how much I love my BB Creams so I was pretty excited to hear about their new line of beauty balms.  These BB Creams are handmade in New Zealand and are simply divine!  Not your average beauty balms – these BB Creams are the first to be made right here in NZ and Oasis is one of the first in the world to make a natural BB Cream!  Their range is really quite outstanding.  You can choose from a dewy finish to a powder finish and they come in various shades and tints.  These all-in-one correcting SPF moisturisers with built-in mineral foundation coverage are a welcome addition to the world of BB Creams and I’m a HUGE fan!! You can check Oasis out here: OASISBEAUTY

This next lineup of skincare products, VERITE SPA ORGANICS, is what I would consider the Rolls Royce of hand-made, organic skincare.  Beautifully packaged and offering up pure indulgence with all-natural ingredients.  I’ve been using VERITE’S Jasmine & Ylang-Ylang Balancing Moisturiser, Jojoba & Olive Cleansing Balm and the Oatmeal & Orange Exfoliating Skin Refiner and I am totally in LOVE with these beauties!  I can honestly say I will be making my way through these beauty gems until I hit the bottom of the jars.

Created by founder Janin Dei-Conti, after beginning her aromatherapy journey at the prestigious Tisserand Institute in London in 1998, Janin embarked on transforming her study of plants essential oils into a life-long love affair. All products are hand blended in New Zealand in small batches in order to maintain their potency and effectiveness and have been developed for their healing, nourishing, anti-ageing and restorative properties. Only the highest grade certified organic, wild crafted organic and natural ingredients are used in VERITE’s processes – and I really think this shines through. Even their containers have been thought through –  organic ingredients are packaged in dark violet miron glass bottles to ensure the plant essences are preserved for longer. LUSH Ro’s Argan Body Conditioner is my ‘rediscovered love’ this month.  LUSH really needs no introduction, unless you’ve been living under a rock I very much doubt there’s a person alive who doesn’t love LUSH!  I have to be very disciplined when it comes to shopping at LUSH, basically once I enter their store it’s all over.  I tell myself I am only going to buy a couple of things and THAT’S IT!  This never happens – I’m addicted to their bathbombs so inevitably I will leave with at least 10 of those and the Emotional Brilliance range is like an apothecary makeup wonderland so really, it’s no surprise that I take a couple of items home with me from that collection and on my last visit about a week ago, I rediscovered my love of the Ro’s Argan Body Conditioner (RABC).  As myself and a couple of friends looked around the store I saw a pottle of the RABC and picked it up to remind myself of the intoxicating scent (and of course to introduce it to my gal pals) I couldn’t believe I had forgotten how much I LOVE this lotion.  The scent of is like no other, the vanilla & rose mixed with notes of smokey tobacco (that’s not actually what it says but that’s what I think I can smell) is honestly irresistible.  Into my basket it went and I’m so glad it did. There has never been a time that I’ve worn this and NOT received a compliment or had someone ask what I’m wearing as it smells almost edible. I know you are supposed to apply it and then rinse it off in the shower, but I don’t – I just wear it as a body lotion all day and then remove it when I shower at night – it’s too good to rinse off! I love you LUSH!!

LUSH RO'S ARGAN BODY CONDITIONER, Beauty, beauty blog nz, july beauty favourites, style blog nz,

Well that’s it for this months beauty finds – if you know of some amazing beauty/skincare brands you think are worth trying I’d love to hear from you so drop me a comment below.

Put Yourself Back In The Picture…

Weleda pomegranate Firming Face Serum, skincare, beauty, beauty blog nz, style blog nz, fashion blog nz, beauty, angie fredatovich, bare PR, New Zealand, Bianca Talaic

A couple of weeks ago a gorgeous parcel arrived at the front door step and attached was a note, accompanied by a photo frame.  “Put yourself back in the picture” it said.  Well now how could I not with such a cute parcel, frame and note attached, right?  Introducing – WELEDA POMEGRANATE FIRMING FACE SERUM…

Weleda pomegranate Firming Face Serum, skincare, beauty, beauty blog nz, style blog nz, fashion blog nz, beauty, angie fredatovich, bare PR, New Zealand, Bianca Talaic

No matter your age, let’s face it, we are ALL getting older, heck scarily for me I will be another year older in just a matter of weeks, so yes, I do worry about wrinkles, keeping my skin hydrated and doing all the things that will, in years to come, hopefully help in the reduction of the signs of aging!

The Weleda Pomegranate Firming Face Serum is packed with antioxidant-rich pomegranate seed oil and said to help ageing skin bounce back with natural nutrients and essential fatty acids that aid the skins own ability to regenerate. There are promises that after 28 days of use the depth of wrinkles are reduced by 29% and skin moisture levels are increased by 39%.  Well with that kind of promise why wouldn’t you at least try it.  And so, two weeks later, here I am still using the WELEDA POMEGRANATE FIRMING FACE SERUM. Now, I fully realise that the 28 days is not up, but in the meantime, until I report back, this beautiful serum sure is making my skin feel soft and my face does seem to have a bit of a healthy glow happening, so it’s definitely made my ‘products worth trying’ list.

I’d love to hear of anyone else that is currently using this product.  If you are – let me know how you are finding it and I’ll do the same once the 28 days are up.

RRP$ 46.50 from health food stores and pharmacies

I knew my amazing hair stylist – Kurtis Counsell, was moving to a new salon but I had no idea where, and yes that terrified me. I mean what if he moved to another city? What if he, gulp, left the country? What if he went to a salon that I’ve been to before (prior to finding Kurt of course) that I never wanted to return to? I know it would still be Kurt doing my hair so it shouldn’t matter the salon he is at so long as he’s still my hair stylist, BUT, call me shallow – it really did matter to me that he went to a salon that I deemed amazing, and one that I’d want to ‘hang out at’. Which brings me to the big unveiling of where Kurt has moved to….

Dry & Tea City Works Depot, Kurt Counsell, Louise Dry & Tea NZ, Best Ugly Bagels, Hairdresser, hair stylist, evo, hair salon, high tea, belliage, blowdry, Al Brown, beauty, beauty blog nz, style blog nz, fashion blog nz, nz PR, Angie FredatovichThat’s right – my hairdresser extraordinaire, otherwise known as Kurt, is now at the UBER-COOL Hair Salon DRY & TEA, based in the City Works Depot! [Cue girly squeals of delight!!] Seriously, I have been dying to try out Dry & Tea since it opened, but as you know, I won’t visit a hair salon unless it comes with a side of Kurt!

So I gave Kurt some time to find his feet at his new hair salon before I bombarded him with all my hair needs since I last visited him…. Ok I gave him a day! 24 hours is long enough right? I just really wanted to check out the slick new headquarters and see what they had to offer – ‘scope it out’ as they say. I turned up on Dry & Tea’s doorstep on Kurt’s 2nd day of work and he kindly showed me around and talked me through everything they have to offer, and let me tell you, this is a FULL SERVICE SALON!  From cuts and colours, belliage, tints and foils, through to mani’s, lash application and a styling bar to get you looking red-carpet ready.  They even hold ‘high tea’, group bookings and full service catering!! (oh, and a lil something for the boys, should they wish to indulge in a beer or perhaps a glass of whiskey, they have that too!).

Oh hi there Mr Al Brown (stopping in for tea and a quick bite to eat at Dry & Tea)

Firstly, before I show you their fabulous ‘menu’, yup, I said menu, let me just say that this salon is beyond cool. They have their very own on-site café for goodness sake – how cool is that?! They have such beautiful surroundings – I mean they are situated in THE most happening location, next to The Food Truck and Best Ugly Bagels (two of my fave new places), there’s ample parking, they’re central so it’s super handy and the vibe they have going on is hip and edgy, yet still relaxed and inviting. I’m heading back to see Kurt tomorrow for a real appointment (no turning up outta the blue this time) so I can report back with more on Dry & Tea real soon, but in the meantime – check out their full-service ‘menu’ and all the fabulous things on offer…

So, If you’re looking for a new hairdresser, or just need a hairdresser full stop, head to Dry & Tea and ask for Kurt – maybe even let him know I sent you and see what he can do for you!  As they say at Dry & Tea – The world is full of moments. This moment is focused on you!  So focus on you and head to Dry & Tea for some beautifying pampering!

Bejewelled Nails and Jewel Tones Manicure…

Bejewelled Nails and Jewel Tones Manicure, nails, nail polish, nail art, nail design, OPI, OPI Nail Polish NZ, beauty, beauty blog nz, fashion blog nz, style blog nz, angie fredatovich, gurlinterrupted, girl interrupted, jewels, accessories nz

After seeing a fellow US Blogger’s jewel mani and inspired by the darker hues of winter fashion, plus rekindling my love of costume jewellery with large chunky gems, I wanted to create a jewel-inspired manicure to incorporate these lovely jewel tones; and so I’ve created this picture tutorial aptly named – Bejewelled Nails (and jewel tones manicure).

Bejewelled Nails and Jewel Tones Manicure, nails, nail polish, nail art, nail design, OPI, OPI Nail Polish NZ, beauty, beauty blog nz, fashion blog nz, style blog nz, angie fredatovich, gurlinterrupted, girl interrupted, jewels, accessories nzHere’s what you’ll need…

  • Jewel Toned Nail Varnishes – I’ve used: OPI Lincoln Park After Dark (wine), OPI Ski Teal We Drop (Teal Blue), OPI Got The Blues For Red (red), OPI Light My Sapphire (dark blue), OPI Jade Is The New Black (green). Obviously you can use whichever colours you have to recreate this look, it doesn’t need to be these exact nail polishes, this is just what I opted to use
  • A base and top coat
  • Tweezers
  • Nail glue (optional)
  • Nail art gems or beads

Line up your colours so you remember the order (should you wish to have the colours coordinating of course)…

Apply your basecoat.  Once your basecoat is dry, apply your nail colour (I’ve done 3 coats of each colour).

Once you’ve completed your coats of colour, it’s time to attach the jewels. You should do this while your nail polish is slightly tacky (but not wet). Choose your gems of choice and apply some nail glue (if you choose to – it could just adhere to the sticky nail polish before it dries) and carefully place your jewel onto your nail(s). I’ve opted to just adhere my gold nail art to one finger on each hand, but you could do as much or as little as you wish.

Once your decoration (gem) is in place, apply a thick topcoat to secure your decoration of choice to your nail. Tip: Disassembled bindi’s make for great nail art decorations and you can get them from the ‘dollar store’  which is a lot more cost-effective.

VOILA – bejewelled, jewel tones manicure complete!

EPSOM SALTS: A-List Celebs Are Raving About It – Find Out Why It’s The New Beauty Staple…

Epsom Salts, The key to a better you, beauty, skincare, health, natural, beauty therapy, beauty blog nz, fashion blog nz, style blog nz, bath, beauty media nz, gurlinterrupted, angie fredatovich, celebrities, gwyneth paltrow, Victoria Beckham, Elle MacPherson

For years Epsom Salts have been a trusted cure for aches and pains. Now, thanks to Gwyneth Paltrow, Victoria Beckham and Elle Macpherson, of whom are raving about this natural elixir, Epsom Salts are fast becoming a beauty staple.

I’ve been using Epsom Salts for as long as I can remember. Years of gymnastics when I was young and playing sports pretty much seven days a week has caused scar tissue and nerve damage in my back, neck and arms like you wouldn’t believe. Basically by the end of the day my neck and back feels like concrete (knots like you’d not believe) and in turn, for me this means migraines! I have to take care of myself by regularly stretching, drinking plenty of water to ensure I’m keeping the toxins at bay and staying hydrated, and of course – when I have the time, I have a bath with Epsom Salts to break down all the muscle tension. What a lot of people don’t realise though, is that there really is so much more that Epsom Salts can do for you and your body; and it would seem celebrities are now sitting up and taking notice, which of course means, hopefully so will everyone else.

Epsom Salts, The key to a better you, beauty, skincare, health, natural, beauty therapy, beauty blog nz, fashion blog nz, style blog nz, bath, beauty media nz, gurlinterrupted, angie fredatovich, celebrities, gwyneth paltrow, Victoria Beckham, Elle MacPhersonCosting a fraction of the price of designer potions – you can pick up a tub for just a couple of dollars from your local chemist, health store, etc. Being hailed as a miracle fix for everything from greasy hair to a bloated stomach and lacklustre skin. The salts’ healing properties were discovered in the early 17th century when a farmer living near Epsom, Surrey, discovered a spring rich in magnesium sulphate.

When you have an ‘Epsom Salts bath’, magnesium and sulphate are absorbed through the skin. Because our skin is porous, reverse osmosis takes place, which means toxins and excess fluids are drawn out of the skin as the goodness goes in. It breaks down the muscle tension and in turn, no more tension headaches or migraines! But there’s plenty of other fabulous uses for Epsom Salts…

BLOAT BEATER: Bathing in Epsom Salts helps to reduce water retention and tummy bloating. Bathing three times a week in a dilution of two cups of Epsom salts per bath will see you strutting with a flatter tummy in no time (no wonder celebrities are starting to take note).

HANGOVER CURE: Bathing in Epsom Salts after a night of over-indulgence is a great way to beat the hangover blues. Hangovers are caused by the toxicity of the alcohol breaking down in the body. The byproducts of this – and dehydration – trigger a throbbing headache, fatigue and nausea. The sulphates in Epsom Salt help flush out toxins and ease muscle pain.

FOOT SOAK: Got tired, hot feet? Not only will Epsom Salts soothe aches and pains after a day in heels, they are an anti-inflammatory and will also help to reduce swelling and puffiness. Add half a cup of Epsom Salts to a large bowl of warm water and soak your feet for ten to 20 minutes. The salt will remove odours and soften dry skin, which can then be removed easily with a pumice stone or foot file.

PERFECT PINS: For even-toned, summer-ready legs, you can lessen the appearance of bruises by applying an Epsom salts compress. Soak a facecloth in a cupful of cold water mixed with 2 tbsp Epsom salts and apply directly to the skin.

INSTANT FACIAL: Exfoliate and deep cleanse the skin by mixing ½ tsp Epsom salts with your usual cleanser. Massage on to the skin, then rinse with cool water and dry. This will boost your skins magnesium level. Epsom salts are a natural cleanser as well. They rejuvenate and rehydrate skin as well as removing toxins. Because the minerals are being absorbed through the skin, you can’t overdose on it.

BOUNCY HAIR: Epsom salts will soak up excess oil from the hair. Just add a handful when you shampoo and wash as normal. The Epsom Salt Council recommends making a volumising mask by mixing one part hair conditioner with one part Epsom salts. Warm this mixture in a pan and work it through the hair. Leave on for 20 minutes and then rinse. Hair will look fuller and feel softer, and the minerals will help to repair and strengthen heat-damaged ends. It’s particularly good for smoothing frizz out of curls.

JET-LAG CURE: Soaking in an Epsom salts bath after a long-haul flight has a sedative effect on the body. The minerals help muscles and joints to relax and this leads to a more restful sleep, giving the body a chance to re-energise. Magnesium sulphate activates the body’s healing mechanisms and many athletes take a soak the night before a race. A long soak will also help with aches, stiffness, tightness and soreness after exercise.

So, do you think you’ll give Epsom Salts a go? Will it be a new ‘beauty staple’ for you? Or, are you already using Epsom Salts and know of some other fabulous uses? I’d love to hear about them, so leave me a comment below and share your tips and tricks.

Wishing you a relaxing week…

It’s been a while since my last ‘Editor’s Picks’, but its been a busy ol time with the official opening of NZFW at the Designer Showcase Luncheon, spring/summer media showrooms and beauty product launches, however, Editor’s Picks is back and it’s back with a whole lot fabulous new must-haves…

CANDLE LOVE – Curtis & Clarke

I’m actually thinking about seeking help for my scented-candle-burning addiction.  I’m now at the point where I have completely lost the willpower to leave a store that stocks scented candles without buying one!  Every time I see a new scented candle in a fabulous glass jar, housed in some kind of luxurious looking box, I’m convinced I must own it (I’m gonna throw it out there, I very rarely have buyers remorse!).  So you can imagine my elation when I saw a candle that promised to fill my house with the smell of freshly baked gingerbread, right?  I mean I love my tried and true candle aromas – vanilla, french pear, fresh linen, peony, well you get the picture… So with tragically weak candle-resisting willpower, here I am – the proud owner of said gingerbread scented candle and I absolutely ADORE IT!  It’s by Curtis & Clarke, based here in New Zealand and I swear – my house smells like I’ve just baked a batch of gingerbread, cinnamony (now a word) treats.  Check out www.curtisandclarke.com

BURBERRY SPARK CAT-EYE SUNGLASSES – NUDE ROSE (Mirrored Lens)

First spotted at the BeatPR Media Showroom day – I have obsessed over these sunnies, from the Sunglass Hut & OPSM SS 13/14 Collection ever since. They are the Burberry Spark Cat-Eye Nude Rose Sunglasses.  Crafted in nude acetate, the cat-eye sunglasses are finished with contrast metallic nickel arms and feature scratch-resistant lenses in light mirrored silver.  I swear I even dreamt that I owned them and woke up severely disappointed when I realised that alas, I do not own these lovelies! They are by far the nicest pair of sunglasses I’ve seen in, well, forever! PLUS they suit me – no easy feat let me tell you!  I find it so hard to find a pair that fit and suit me; and these do.  The nude-rose colouring compliments my skin colour, I love the mirrored lens and the metallic finish on the arms is perfection personified!  If I do not own this pair of Burberry sunglasses there could be tears – REAL TEARS!  Until these are mine I very much doubt I will be seeing the world through ‘nude-rose’ tinted glasses.

MAYBELLINE AGE REWIND ‘THE LIFTER’ FOUNDATION
Luxottica Retail New Zealand, Sunglass Hut NZ, OPSM NZ, Burberry NZ, BeatPR, Curtis & Clarke, MAYBELLINE AGE REWIND 'THE LIFTER' FOUNDATION, Maybelline New York New Zealand, Burberry Spark Cat-Eye Nude Rose Sunglasses, Snowberry, Snowberry NZ, ORLY, Orly Hope & Freedom Fest, Greg Billington, Publicity PR, ali gwynne, Jen Mann, PEADPR, Pead PR, beauty, cosmetics, makeup, fashion, sunglasses, Angie fredatovich, gurlinterrupted, beauty blog nz, fashion blog nz, style blog nz, beauty media nz, fashion media nz

Whilst I’m willing to try a myriad of brands when it comes to beauty products (in fact I love trying all the different brands) I have until now pretty much stuck to the ‘big-name-brands’ when choosing my foundation, however recently I was gifted one of the new Maybelline New York ‘The Lifter’ Foundation’s, so I decided ‘what the hell – I’ll give it a whirl’.  Upon first glance I thought it looked quite cool with its swirly spiral like appearance in the container, but worried that maybe it would just be a bit gimmicky.  The reason for the spiral effect is that it has a built-in primer – great time saver if it works.  Well, as it turns out – there’s nothing gimmicky about this foundation – it’s bloody brilliant!  Sadly the colour I was given wasn’t quite the right shade for me, but regardless, it went on flawlessly, you can feel the primer as you apply it and it looks and feels velvety smooth. The fact that Maybelline has mastered a primer and foundation in one is genius! Seriously guys – this is a fabulous foundation and one that I intend to find my colour-match in.

SNOWBERRY
Luxottica Retail New Zealand, Sunglass Hut NZ, OPSM NZ, Burberry NZ, BeatPR, Curtis & Clarke, MAYBELLINE AGE REWIND 'THE LIFTER' FOUNDATION, Maybelline New York New Zealand, Burberry Spark Cat-Eye Nude Rose Sunglasses, Snowberry, Snowberry NZ, ORLY, Orly Hope & Freedom Fest, Greg Billington, Publicity PR, ali gwynne, Jen Mann, PEADPR, Pead PR, beauty, cosmetics, makeup, fashion, sunglasses, Angie fredatovich, gurlinterrupted, beauty blog nz, fashion blog nz, style blog nz, beauty media nz, fashion media nz
Even the name invokes delight!  Made in New Zealand using solely sustainably harvested ingredients (from the Snowberry Gardens) and packaged with biodegradable, recyclable materials, Snowberry is certified carbon zero.  But as we all know, it’s all about the actual product.  Is it good enough to rave about?  Heck it wouldn’t be on here if it wasn’t newsworthy.  The items I’ve been using from this delightful range: the Simply Delicious Moisturiser, Starbright Moisturiser and New Radiance Face Serum.

Simply Delicious Moisturiser: Imagine a delectable blend of cupuacu fruit, snow-loving lingonberry, macadamia seed oil and rare NZ forest honey – well this is what Simply Delicious is all about.  Lets say – decadent moisture meets healthy superfruits if you will.  It’s been an elixir for my dry skin (dry tends to be the state of my skin in winter) as it’s an amazing hydrator.  This wee gem even helps to even out skin tone – LOVE!

Starbright Moisturiser: Designed for combination skin (which is how my skin normally is when it’s not the dead of winter) this moisturiser is the perfect daily hydrator and contains a cascade of natural herbal anti-oxidants including grape seed, rosemary, tomato, apple and sunflower extracts that, combined with powerful Ubiquinone (coEnzyme), help to neutralise free radial activity. In layman’s terms – plays a critical role in age prevention!

New Radiance Face Serum: Everyone wants more radiant skin that glows like a hollywood star right?  Well then you can see why I just had to try this serum out. because that’s exactly what ‘New Radiance’ promises to deliver (ok I may have added the hollywood star part, but still).  Containing natural copper peptide – this serum helps strengthen and smooth the skin’s barrier function, reducing fine lines and wrinkles.  Yup – I’m all about combating fine lines and wrinkles.  Copper peptides are essential for stimulating the immune system when the skin is damaged and it also aids with skin healing (including the replacement of scar tissue). This is one of those rare beauty products that people don’t wanna tell you about, because they don’t want to share their best skincare secrets.  Not me – I’m happy to rave about it!  This has been a nighttime essential for my skin and I’m loving the results.  Super hydrated, even-toned, glowing skin!   These few products I’ve tried have got me hooked and I want to own the entire Snowberry range.

ORLY – HOPE & FREEDOM FEST
Luxottica Retail New Zealand, Sunglass Hut NZ, OPSM NZ, Burberry NZ, BeatPR, Curtis & Clarke, MAYBELLINE AGE REWIND 'THE LIFTER' FOUNDATION, Maybelline New York New Zealand, Burberry Spark Cat-Eye Nude Rose Sunglasses, Snowberry, Snowberry NZ, ORLY, Orly Hope & Freedom Fest, Greg Billington, Publicity PR, ali gwynne, Jen Mann, PEADPR, Pead PR, beauty, cosmetics, makeup, fashion, sunglasses, Angie fredatovich, gurlinterrupted, beauty blog nz, fashion blog nz, style blog nz, beauty media nz, fashion media nz
Inspired by carefree festivals like Coachella and Glastonbury, Hope and Freedom Fest is the latest drop from ORLY to hit our shores. The collection features six hippie-chic colours ranging from creamy pastels and shimmering shades to show stopping glitter. With super-cute names such as Elation Generation, Melodious Utopia, High On Hope and Coachella Dweller, these little beauties will be sure to bring out your inner-indie.  I love these itty bitty bottles of nail lacquer, they apply perfectly, they fit in your pocket or purse (see: OCD dream) so you don’t have to put up with chipped nails when you’re on the go and this colour collection is making me yearn for spring, summer and music festivals.

Till next time…
