Whilst the temperature here in NZ might not be rising (in fact, quite the opposite!) the new collection from MAC will be sure to heat things up with this hot new bronze-encased line-up.

MAC captures the steamy nocturnal scene in a vivid summer colour collection. Powder Blush sets the tone, Eye Shadow Quads smoulder and Powerchrome Eye Pencil illuminates with molten metallic. Lipstick and Lipglass speak volumes with their glistening hue’s. MAC Pro Longwear Bronzing Powder stays stunning all evening long, Bronzing Oil’s botanical blend transforms skin with lush moisture and Strobe Liquid flashes its sexy afterglow in a brand new shade.

Benefit Cosmetics NZ Media Launch

Joyce Shu, Benefit Cosmetics, Benefit Cosmetics NZ, Justin Fullerton, beauty blog nz, style blog nz, makeup beauty guru, Angie Fredatovich, Nostalgia,

I can’t even remember when my infatuation with Benefit Cosmetics began, but I can assure you it was many years ago now when I made my first online order, all the time wishing that we had Benefit stores here in New Zealand.  Finally my wish has come true with the opening of their first store at the duty-free counter at Auckland International Airport, and their second store at Smith & Caughey’s on Queen St.

Specialising in brows, Benefit has been raising eyebrows since 1976 with their brow bars and we are lucky country number 41 to finally have these bene-browfessionals working to make kiwi woman look brow-mazing!

A little beauty-nerd trivia (yes I took notes): Benefit Cosmetics have 3000  beauty counters worldwide, 1000 brow bars and 50 boutiques.  Their infamous mascara, they’re real!, is the Number 1 selling mascara at Sephora in the US and UK, and Number 1 at Myers in Australia – that’s a lot of bene-love!

Last week Gurlinterrupted attended the greatly anticipated media launch of Benefit Cosmetics here in New Zealand.  Held at the uber-cool Nostalgia restaurant in Ponsonby, NZ beauty writers were treated to an evening of bubbles & beauty.  Benebabes – Jessica, Hannah and Gemma, along with Justin aka Dr Feelgood, demonstrated some of their best-selling products whilst sharing fun facts about how some of their products actually came to be e.g. did you know ‘benetint’, once known as Rose Tint, has a slightly raunchier background that just a cheek/lip tint?  Yeah lets just say that Playboy magazine would have found this product very handy to enhance certain assets ha ha, ahem, I digress… Here are some of the highlights from the amazing launch event followed by my day at the Smith & Caughey’s Benefit store opening (where I may have bought just a couple of my favourite products like the ‘fakeup’ hydrating crease-control concealer, high brow – the brow lifting pencil and a few creaseless eyeshadows.  Next on my list – ‘the total moisture facial cream’ – swoon).

Deciphering The Alphabet: BB, CC & DD Creams…

beauty blog nz, style blog nz, fashion blog nz, Julep, Max Factor, BB cream, CC Cream, DD Cream, Bobbi Brown, Garnier, Clinique, makeup, MAC NZ, beauty media nz, benefit cosmetics nz, benefit cosmetics, alphabet cream, angie Fredatovich, gurlinterrupted.com

Deciphering the ‘Alphabet Creams’ that are currently flooding the beauty market can be tricky.  What started with the ever-popular BB Cream, quickly moved to the CC Cream and now we’re hearing about DD Cream (I wonder how left out the letter A is feeling right now).   With this influx of alphabet creams, many are left wondering what differentiates one from the other.  So I thought a simple breakdown of each was in order, along with a few of my tried and true faves…

beauty blog nz, style blog nz, fashion blog nz, Julep, Max Factor, BB cream, CC Cream, DD Cream, Bobbi Brown, Garnier, Clinique, makeup, MAC NZ, beauty media nz, benefit cosmetics nz, benefit cosmetics, alphabet cream, angie Fredatovich, gurlinterrupted.com

I’m sure everyone is familiar with BB Cream.  Beauty Balm or Blemish Balm is promoted as an all-in-one beauty product to replace moisturizer, primer, foundation, even sunblock; and I have to say BB Cream has been a long time favourite of mine and is pretty much my daily ‘go-to’ rather than using a full cover foundation (not to mention it’s a fab time saver!).  My BB Creams of choice – Garnier and Bobbi Brown.

beauty blog nz, style blog nz, fashion blog nz, Julep, Max Factor, BB cream, CC Cream, DD Cream, Bobbi Brown, Garnier, Clinique, makeup, MAC NZ, beauty media nz, benefit cosmetics nz, benefit cosmetics, alphabet cream, angie Fredatovich, gurlinterrupted.com

Known as the Colour Corrector or Colour Control cream, this one’s fairly new to the NZ market and gives slightly more coverage than the humble BB Cream.  With the addition of several nourishing ingredients and anti-aging properties, the CC Cream treats uneven skin tone, acts as a brightener, primer and is more akin to foundation.  In summary – a slightly more heavy-duty version of the BB Cream, focusing on light diffusing properties. The CC Cream I’m currently trying is the new Max Factor CC Cream and I have to say I’m really enjoying it.

beauty blog nz, style blog nz, fashion blog nz, Julep, Max Factor, BB cream, CC Cream, DD Cream, Bobbi Brown, Garnier, Clinique, makeup, MAC NZ, beauty media nz, benefit cosmetics nz, benefit cosmetics, alphabet cream, angie Fredatovich, gurlinterrupted.com

The Dynamic Do-All Cream! Julep is first in line to introduce the DD Cream to the beauty market. Said to go beyond the BB and CC Cream, this alphabet cream promises to deliver your standard moisturising, protecting, priming and perfecting properties (suddenly I feel like Dr Seuss), whilst also going a step further with two patented anti-aging properties, all said to decrease the appearance of pores and fine lines instantly and over time. I’ve yet to try the Julep DD cream, but it’s definitely on my ‘beauty bucket list’.

So, what do you think – are you a BB, CC or a DD Cream girl?

Kurt Counsell of Mod’s Hair Salon – Ponsonby

Meet Kurt Counsell – The other man in my life.  Hairdresser extraordinaire based at ‘Mod’s Hair PARIS’ Salon on Ponsonby Rd.  For those that follow my blog, you will already be fully aware of just how much I adore Kurt and Mod’s Hair Salon’ AND, so that you too can experience just how fabulous Mod’s are – they have gifted me with an amazing GIVEAWAY for my followers valued at $400!!  Read on to find out more about Kurt, Mod’s Hair Salon and how you can WIN a fabulous hair and nail package for you and your bestie!!

Kurt, tell us a little about yourself, the road you travelled that bought you to being a hairdresser and why Mod’s in particular?
Many years ago, when I was a chef, a good friend of mine owned a hair salon. I would often whip up a fab lunch and take it over to her in the salon and spend most of my breaks with her. The more time I spent there, the more I realised I wanted to be ‘in the industry’. So I gradually immersed myself in the salon world by doing some general admin, answering phones, washing hair, etc. in her salon. Eventually she recommended I enrol myself on a hairdressing course. So that’s exactly what I did. Based in Christchurch, I was juggling my full-time hairdressing course, with 2 part-time jobs until, 9 months later, I came out at the other end ready to take on the world of hairdressing. I was offered a full-time role at a Christchurch salon and this is really where I got my grounding in hairdressing. I was so lucky to be based in that salon as I learnt and absorbed so much from those hairdressers. They were true old-school hairdressers, just an amazing talented team who taught me everything I needed to know to get a good solid understanding of hairdressing, things you could never learn solely from completing a hairdressing course, in fact I definitely learned more from hands-on experience. After the earthquakes hit, for obvious reasons I made the move to Auckland and hunted down Mod’s. I knew I wanted to work at Mod’s as I used to go to them in Christchurch to get my hair done by a friend that worked there. I was completely obsessed with the amazing techniques they used, of which I learnt were unique to French hairdressers and thus, it’s where I knew I wanted to be – at Mod’s!

How long have you been with Mod’s
2 years and I still absolutely love it.

What inspires you to come to work and do what you do every day?
I love hair so much – like I actually love what I do and I love surprising people with new and exciting concepts.  It’s not just the artistic creative side of it – it’s the scientific element that comes with hairdressing, you need that scientific understanding, mixed in with a whole lot of creative juice. I love beautiful natural looking hair and the people who do it best are the French (and of corse Mod’s).

Best brand in hair products?
Mod’s of course! We do our own Mod’s line of hair products, so obviously that’s my first brand of choice. The Mod’s range has something for everyone and contains a lot of natural ingredients. In particular, I’m a huge fan of Mod’s GINKO ENERGETICUM – it stimulates the blood flow to your scalp, which keeps the follicle healthy and in turn, promotes hair growth. Now if we are talking specifically ‘hair care’ brands, I would also have to say Kerastase is one of THE best hair care brands.

Number one ‘hair look’ when you don’t have long and want to create a great no fuss hairdo?
I love a topknot! Literally anyone can do it (well obviously not someone with a pixie-cut). I would always opt for a more casual topknot as opposed to the ‘tight ballet bun look’. To accomplish the ideal topknot I’d use a great ‘dust powder’, scoop all your hair up, without using a brush (this creates a more casual look), pop in a hair tie and create your knot. This is a beautiful effortless look. Finish with a red lip and killer heels and you’re good to go.

You have 10 seconds before you have to grab your keys and rush out the door – which hair product do you reach for?
L’Oreal Dust Powder! Reason being, I have fine flyaway hair. With L’Oreal Dust Powder, I can just brush it through and it stays in place all day – no build-up of product and no irritants, which I find when using other dust powders.

You’re a very fashion-forward guy (if I was a guy I’d totally dress like you) – where do you draw your fashion inspiration from?
I love wearing black! Black is the new black as far as I’m concerned. In saying that, I also love statement pieces. Whether it’s a bow tie or necklace; anything different and quirky equals the perfect statement piece. I’ll take snippets from everywhere – I might see something on someone and think “yeah I like that look, but I’d change it up slightly by putting my own twist on it”. I love vintage mixed with street style, and comfort is essential! In this industry you can’t afford to get it wrong, comfort is key and I’ve worn fashion over comfort before – never again!

You’ve built up such a strong following and Mod’s has such a great reputation. What do you think it is that Mod’s does differently to accomplish this?
Mod’s French heritage. French techniques that other hairdressers just don’t know, nor do. We are the kings of balayage!

I’m going on a ‘vacay’ and have to pack light – what are the ‘must haves’ that you would recommend I take with me? (I need lots of room for shoes, so space is limited).
It’s key you are using salon quality shampoo or conditioner – whether you plan to leave your hair down or need to style it, above all else, salon quality Shampoo & Conditioner is most important, so I would say ensure you pack these.  Well, maybe just pop in one styling product containing UV protectant.

Now I know you have a manicurist on site – what’s her background?
We have the amazing and talented Debbie of Dolls House Nails. Debbie is fun, quirky and incredibly skilled in nail design. She has been in the industry for 27 years and has built up quite a following!

OK – so you’re called Mod’s hair PARIS – do any of your stylists actually get to go to Paris and train there?
YES! We get the opportunity to go the training school in Paris and it’s definitely on my to do list very soon!

To summarise – a perfect day on the job is…..
Blow waves, blow waves, blow waves!

Last time I was in the salon and we were talking about new features for my blog, you came up with a brilliant idea – a spin on the ever popular ‘what’s in my handbag’, you suggested featuring ‘what’s in my manbag’.  I love it, so, “Kurt – what’s in your manbag?”
Ok – well, I actually don’t carry around a lot at all!  But I do love my manbag.  I found this leather satchel bag in an opshop for $30. I’ve swapped out the strap on it (gotta add my own style) and it’s now perfect!  What’s in my manbag…

  • PLAY by Givenchy
  • L’Oreal Super Dust
  • Chapstick
  • PUMP mini
  • Phone (an obvious essential)

And just one other quick question – what are your 2 favourite apps on your phone?
Camera 360 and the Gameboy app (Pokémon is a rediscovered childhood addiction)

The New M.A.C Collection – BAKING BEAUTIES…

MAC, Makeup, cosmetics, new collection, MAC Cosmetics NZ, beauty blog NZ, style blog NZ, Beauty, Angie Fredatovich, Tanya Jackson, PR, AmberD, MAC NZ

M.A.C has a few new collections arriving in store next month, but it’s the Baking Beauties collection that I am most excited about.  The pastel  hued nail varnishes reminiscent of cupcake frosting are simply divine; and the embossed print on the beauty powders – oh so pretty! They’ve even added 2 limited edition brushes to the Baking Beauties collection. A tantalising range, good enough to eat!

M·A·C loves everything about a cupcake. Face Powder arrives in exclusively designed cupcake patterns, and Lustre Drops create a luminous finish. Pro Longwear Paint Pots add a touch of dazzle. Haute & Naughty Lash delivers two in-one coverage. Lipstick lays it on soft and tempting in tones including Devil’s Food and Raspberry Swirl. Mineralize Tinted Lip Balm provides nutrient-rich moisture. Nail Lacquer decorates in glittering Bleu Velvet and Pistachio Crème. And for professional results, two limited-edition brushes with pastel accents. Hello, cupcake!

Here’s a sneak peek of the new Baking Beauties collection:

Given everything MAC Makeup Artist Amber D creates is ‘artistic genius’, I can’t wait to see what creations she comes up with using this collection!

Now, as you know – I could literally spend hours writing about ‘all things beauty’ and there really are so many more images (full size of each and every product) that I could show you, however I know not everyone wants ‘the long version’.  So, if you’d like to see more images (or maybe just a close-up of one product in particular), let me know in the comment box below and I’d be happy to drop in some more images.

Available in-store from 6 May 2013.

What a FABULOSO evening last night at the ‘Razzle Dazzle & Sequins’ evo event, held at Studio Luminere in Parnell.

International Creative Director Leonard Newton presented evo’s new FABULOSO range and gifted us his wisdom on the latest hair tips and trends for 2013.

If you’ve not yet heard of evo, you are missing out on pretty much THE coolest and BEST range of hair products!

When I received the invite to the evo event I was elated because I’ve actually been using evo products for a couple of months now – The Great Hydrator Moisture Mask and Shampoo & Conditioner will change your life – they are beyond amazing!! As for their marketing, well, it’s second to none. It’s to the point, no gimmicks and just tells it like it is (in a very smart and sassy way).

Check out some of my photos from last night’s event, some very cool marketing; and proof that I have ZERO willpower…

SIGMA RESORT – Limited Edition Palette…

NZ Beauty Blogger - Sigma Resort Limited Edition Palette

The latest Sigma product to hit the market is the Limited Edition RESORT Palette!  This gorgeous palette has THE most beautiful vibrant aquatic hues I’ve seen in quite some time.

NZ Beauty Blogger Sigma Limited Edition RESORT Palette

You all know how big a fan I am of Sigma and this Limited Edition Resort palette is just another example of how well Sigma put together a supreme palette.  It combines rich and warm tone eye shadows with complimenting ocean-like hues for a unique makeup palette. The variety of colors allows you to create an endless array of looks, taking you from day to night, neutral to vibrant.  If there’s one thing that lets a lot of bright eyeshadows down it’s the fact that normally you need to apply a base to build from to get the true colour payoff.  Not with this palette – these eight ‘sand to sea’ eyeshadow colours are completely wearable without a base colour-builder.  The perfect palette to add a beautiful pop of colour throughout the winter season.

NZ Beauty Blogger Sigma Limited Edition RESORT Palette

But it’s not just the eyeshadows that are amazing – they’ve also included THE most divine liquid highlighter (Luminesce), a blush (Heavenly) and a dual ended eyeliner pencil (Daydream and Earth Goddess), all of which perfectly compliment the shadows.

nz beauty blogger Sigma RESORT Limited Edition Palette

Although US$42 might seem like a lot at first glance – in comparison to what you’d spend on a MAC eyeshadow palette (sans everything else this palette comes with) this is actually a steal!!  Oh, did I also mention you can click HERE to get 10% off your purchase price using code “SAVE2013” on checkout – Not bad huh!!

This magical beauty product has already made HUGE waves in the UK and US – as in actual headline news – and it’s about to be launched right here in New Zealand (and Australia).  Check out the footage and read on to find out how you too can get your hands on a FREE 28 day trial pack!  There’s a limited number of free trial packs across New Zealand and Australia, so make sure you stay tuned to find out how to get your pack before it arrives in-store in April.  I’ll include the link to apply for a trial pack further below, but for now, click HERE to see the headline news footage and learn more about this gem of a beauty product.

So I received an email a little while back inviting me to take part in an exclusive ‘pre-launch blogger trial’ for the new Avon (yes, you read that right, Avon) Anew Clinical Pro line Corrector Treatment with A-F33.  To be honest – I’d already heard a LOT of hype about this product from a friend in the UK over a year ago, who had, on 2 separate occasions, queued with hundreds of other hopefuls, only to miss out on getting said miracle product, as it sold out across the UK and US within just weeks of it going on sale! So of course – I jumped at the chance to take part in the 28 day ‘Young at Heart’ journey and seriously, this is the most adorable, amazing, fun trial I’ve ever taken part in.

When my friend first said to me  ‘you HAVE to check out this new Avon product, it’s call Avon Anew Clinical Pro Line Corrector Treatment’, I thought, really? Avon?  This is the same girl who pretty much lives on ‘strictly high end, big name products’ so admittedly I was a little surprised she was raving about this Avon product like it’d been hand delivered by the gods of eternal youth.  Heck, I didn’t even realize Avon was still around, let alone creating such a stir amongst the beauty community.

As soon as I opened my ‘Young at Heart’ pack and saw the contents within, I was taken straight back to the carefree days of my youth. My Young at Heart pack contained…. A personalized Barbie pencil-case, colouring in pens, candy necklaces, pez dispensers, magic pop’n rocks, a glitter skipping rope, elastics, everything I needed to send hand written letters (yup, as in, good old snail mail – god I miss receiving actual hand written letters), even pink string so I could play string games (remember making cats whiskers just by looping the string around your fingers in a certain way?).   I mean, they thought of EVERYTHING!! They even included skipping rope rhymes, hand clapping chants, schoolyard games, long forgotten food recipes like fairy bread and chip sandwiches, and oh, the hand-made paper ‘chatterbox’ (you know the one, it was made by folding paper a certain way so your fingers could slot into place – it had colours on the outside, numbers on the inside and then, right in the very middle – the mystery message you unsuspectingly chose).

Ahem, sorry, I digress… bottom line, I was captivated and determined to use this skin care product EVERY morning and EVERY night.  I mean, when this much effort goes into launching a product that’s already taken the global market by storm, I’m thinking this has got to be worth trying right?  And try it I did.  The results?  Pretty damn awesome!  It actually does what it says it will do!  It’s been weeks now and I’m definitely seeing a difference.  My skin feels A-MAY-ZING!!!!  The fine lines around my eyes appear to have minimized quite a bit and my skin is just glowing (no, I’m not pregnant), it really is glowing. Plus it looks & feels super healthy.  Who knows how this product works – apparently it’s the secret A-F33 ingredient, All I know is that my skin is responding really well to it, I’m loving it and I’m not sure what I’ll do when I run out.

So… how do you get your hands on a FREE 28 day trial pack? Well, first of all, ya gotta be following my blog.  Can I say that?  Probably not!  But anyway – make sure you are following my blog – this will give you good juju, increase your chances of being chosen for the trial pack; and every time another person follows me – a fairy gets its wings.  OK – CLICK HERE to be transported back in time and to be in with a chance to receive a free 28 day trial pack.

Right – I’m off to jump rope, make fairy bread and send someone special a hand written letter!  Whilst I’m doing that – check out a couple more images of this amazing Avon Young at Heart pack.

Get Wink-Worthy Lashes In A fLASH…

fLash Lash Serum BDM Grange Angie Fredatovich Gurlinterrupted New Zealand Beauty Blogger

This has got to be my Best (most cost-effective) Beauty Discovery yet!!

It’s no secret that eyelash accentuation has become the hottest cosmetic commodity, however eyelash conditioning products (that actually work) typically retail for anywhere between one to two hundred dollars and are generally only sold in beauty salons, and lets face it $100+ is a pretty big investment for a lot of girls.

I am going to admit something now that I’m a little embarrassed about, but here goes… I have actually bought and used, 3 lash serum’s over the last couple of years and yes they are the big names in lash serum – so they definitely worked, but it also means I’ve spent approximately $500+ in the blink of an eye (pun intended) on lash serum’s.  Last year, in a moment of clarity, I actually stopped buying lash serum solely based on the cost… that is until February this year when I found this little gem:  fLash – Amplifying Lash Serum.

There’s really not much more to say other than – IT’S $69,  IT WORKS and HERE ARE THE RESULTS….

Left to Right:    Before,    2-3 Weeks,     6-12 Weeks.

PS:  I checked out the ingredients on my other empty lash serum bottles (yes, I’m the geeky girl who kept the bottles so I could compare ingredients each time I bought a new serum) and there is NO DIFFERENCE between fLASH and LiLash (or the other brands for that matter) and we all know how expensive those other big brand names are. So there ya have it – get wink-worthy lashes for a fraction of the price.

Available at selected pharmacies nationwide, and online at www.mybeautystore.com

MARACA New Zealand – Skin Care, Spa and Home Fragrance

MARACA New Zealand by New Zealand Fashion Beauty Blogger Gurlinterrupted Angie Fredatovich

A few weeks ago a friend put me onto a new range of premium natural skin care, home fragrance and spa products – MARACA New Zealand.  What started as a quick browse online to see what they had to offer, turned into an overwhelming need to try their shampoo and conditioner – in all honesty I was mainly drawn to those 2 particular items solely based on the names – come on, who can resist a beautifully named range like ‘Butterfly Pea’ Shampoo & Conditioner?  After trying (and LOVING) the shampoo and conditioner (seriously my hair was so incredibly shiny and felt amazingly soft – kinda like when you’ve washed your hair using rain water, for those of you that have experienced tank-water life will know what I mean) I decided to look a little further into what else MARACA had to offer and what they were all about, only that resulted in a haul of more amazing products and I am now an avid fan, thus I wanted to share this new love with all of you.

Read on to see my tried and tested fav products I’m currently using right now, plus a little more info about MARACA New Zealand and it’s founder – Chris Lim (and before anyone asks – NO, I am not being paid by MARACA to talk or write about them – I just genuinely like discovering and sharing new-found loves).

Frangipani Candle $57.50
I am a candle FANATIC (I literally burn candles every day) and I’m not exaggerating when I say this is THE most amazing scented candle I’ve tried to date! The scent is like heaven in a jar and fills the house with the most amazing aroma in no time at all. Plus – it has up to 45 hours burn time. Winning!!

Maraca Scented Candle

Bourbon Vanilla Aroma Reed Diffuser $59.99
Those of you that know me will not be surprised that I opted for the vanilla scented diffuser – I LOVE anything vanilla scented & this is awesome!  This in the lounge means walking into a beautifully scented home every day after work.

Bourbon Vanilla Aroma Reed Diffuser

Lotus Stamen Bath Soap $14.99
I just don’t know how to describe the scent of this soap to do it justice – it smells like ‘the best kind of clean’.  Yes that sounds really odd – but it just smells so fresh and clean that ‘clean’ seems like the best way to describe this gorgeous soap.

Butterfly Pea Shampoo & Conditioner $27.99 each
Well as you’ve already read above – these beauties are simply divine.

Bourbon Vanilla Hand & Body Lotion $35.50
This is my new ‘go to’ everyday vanilla body lotion.  A certain other company discontinued my old fav and quite frankly – I don’t care anymore – this is even better!

Lemon Grass Bath & Massage Oil $41.50
A few drops in your bath, then applied directly on your skin following your bath = super soft skin and again, the scent is so fresh, clean and just divine!

Ground Turmeric Foot Bath Salts $29.99
And the final item – confirming my OCD is engrained in all facets of my life – yup, it also extends to having immaculate feet.  I get a spa pedicure every fortnight with a french polish, but in-between my pedi I ensure that I keep my feet looking immaculate in every way possible and this little gem is fantastic for doing exactly that.  It’s perfect for sore/achy feet, but best of all it eradicates any dryness or cracked heels.  There is NO excuse for unkept feet!

MARACA produces premium quality NATURAL home fragrance, spa and body care products.  MARACA founder – Chris Lim, was inspired to create the range after travelling through Asia. Speaking to locals in small communities, he discovered plants and herbs that have been used in eastern medicine and spiritual practices for centuries. These ancient methods of boosting vitality and health are just as relevant today. Every scent, every colour and every texture tells the story of the precious benefits to be found within every ingredient. With his strong passion for quality skin care and previous involvement with well-known global cosmetic companies (I mean seriously well-known companies like Ralph Lauren, Hugo Boss, Gucci, DKNY, the list goes on), Chris began to develop the MARACA range using this precious knowledge.
