You know when you receive products and you think ‘this looks good, but I’m not sure that it’s really me’? Or you hear about something that’s constantly talked about/recommended on social media or YouTube, well that’s what this post is all about – the products that I’ve received or heard about, that I didn’t expect to love as much as I do, and can happily recommend as being products that I personally think are fab!
I don’t feature anything on Gurlinterrupted unless I think that A) it’s really good and I genuinely love it, and B) it’s a product that my blog followers will find interesting and in turn, need to hear about. There are a LOT of products that I receive, or am recommended to buy, that I NEVER feature on Gurlinterrupted because quite frankly – if I don’t love them, I don’t want to talk about them. I’m not going to push something just because I received it, or because someone else said it’s great! What would be the point in that?! So these items, are products that upon receiving/seeking out on referral, I didn’t know I would become quite so enamoured with as I have (a couple I received recently, others – quite some quite some time ago). And thus, the title of this post – here are my Unusual Suspects…
UNTOLD by Elizabeth Arden
My taste in perfume is very much like my taste in food – I basically have the palette of a teenager – I love SWEET! So I generally go for the all the sweet scents Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, Gucci Guilty, Tocca Stella, and even Brittany’s Circus, so when I was given Elizabeth Arden’s new perfume – UNTOLD, I wasn’t too sure if it was really going to be for me. However, I was so drawn to the perfume by the exquisite bottle (I mean it really is quite something else – perfume in a multi-faceted glass encasing is made to be on display) I just had to try it. The story behind UNTOLD is ‘your story, your journey – the signature fragrance of the modern woman’. I read up on what notes UNTOLD contains: sparkling pink pepper, Bergamot (I adore Bergamot so this was a big tick), pear, blackcurrant, gardenia, Egyptian jasmine, patchouli, sandalwood and musk. Now if that doesn’t sound inviting, I don’t know what does. I was so taken by this beautiful fragrance that I’ve been wearing it for the last few days and am loving it!! (I’ve even had people ask what scent I’m wearing and I’ve received several compliments on it). Whilst my mum is still convinced it’s really meant for her, I’m pretty darn sure it’s for me. UNTOLD is feminine, sophisticated, luxurious, modern and sensual. Absolutely worth checking out next time you’re visiting the beauty counter – a fragrance I expect will be a huge hit in Spring/Summer!! Available 5th September. RRP$$109 50ml.
Vitamins & Extracts Daily Wash and Vitamins & Extracts Scrub by Clearasil
These facial cleansers I’ve had for quite some time now and it’s only been in the last month that I’ve actually ripped into them. Since trying them, they have lived in my shower and I use them constantly. I can’t believe how damn good they are. Admittedly I generally do stick to high-end brands when it comes to skincare, simply because I favour the brands that I know well. Clearasil isn’t a brand I’ve actually tried before, so I had no idea if they would perform as well as the ‘pricier’ brands. I’m so glad I was sent the scrub and daily wash as I may not have ever discovered these daily essentials. I use them every morning in the shower and alternate between the two. My guy is even using them (he’s metro, but not “I’m going to exfoliate” metro), so if Clearasil can get him into a skincare regime, that’s all good with me! They’re totally affordable, they’re a fabulous cleanser and exfoliator, and my skin alway feels soft, smooth and glowing after using them! This would be the best affordable beauty discovery I’ve made in quite some time!
Yes To Blueberries
You may have seen or heard people talking about ‘Yes To….’ recently (I know there’s a Yes To Blueberries and a Yes To Carrots). I’ve heard so many positive things about them that I decided I had to give them a whirl myself. I opted for the Yes To Blueberries as this one appeared to focus more on skin brightening and rejuvenating. The two products I picked up were the Yes To Blueberries Cleansing Facial Towelettes and the Yes To Blueberries Intensive Skin Repair Serum. The Cleansing Facial Towelettes are absolutely divine! They smell great, they brighten (formulated with lemon peel and apple), cleanse and remove makeup, whilst at the same time – moisturise! These are fabulous if you’re travelling, or to pop into your handbag to use on the go, as well as being an everyday gentle makeup remover & cleanser. The Intensive Skin Repair Serum is also super convenient – handbag/travel sized and makes your skin feel fabulous. I found this worked best, used directly after cleansing and followed with a moisturiser. Again, this one smells beautiful and gives healthy, glowing, radiant skin. These were definitely ‘unusual suspects’ but I am indeed enjoying them!
Rimmel Salon Pro Nail Colour with Lycra (colour BRITPOP) by Kate Moss
The hot new line-up of shades by Kate Moss for Rimmel looked so good I just knew I’d be sucked in to trying them. I’m generally a bit of a sceptic when a nail polish states ’10 days chip resistant nail colour with gel shine finish’ as so many of them chip within the first couple of days, and I find that even by the end of the first day the colour has dulled quite dramatically. However, this Rimmel Salon Pro Nail Polish appears to be true to its word. I’ve donned the hue BRITPOP, and my mani has kept its shine and remained flawless for days. The collection, created by Kate Moss, has 10 amazing shades and includes Rimmel’s precision maxi brush (which if you haven’t yet tried, you’re in for a pleasant surprise – it’s a pretty cool brush!).
There are a few more products that I’m still trialling, but once I’ve properly reviewed them, they’ll be up on the blog very soon!
