Forget ‘what’s in my handbag’ blog posts – what I’m wanting to talk about is ‘my new handbag’ and where I got it! A couple of months ago I was informed of a new website called www.everme.co.nz It’s jam-packed with all the bag-eye-candy anyone could ever wish for – in fact there’s so many amazing bags and travel accessories that it’s literally taken me weeks to choose my new handbag (there were so many I wanted!!). EverMe is a handbag store based right here in NZ (Tauranga to be exact) owned by two brothers who clearly have fabulous taste. Everme.co.nz stocks all the brands you know and love, plus many more you may not have even heard of yet. From your designer brands – Coach, Michael Kors and Fossil right through to mainstream collections such as Nine West, Melie Bianco, Kardashian Kollection and many more! The site is user-friendly and easy to navigate, I’d say the hardest things about EverMe is deciding which handbag to buy.
I guess some people might ask – why shop for a handbag online when you can just get one in-store? The answer is simple – I’ve got a pretty hectic schedule – work, blogging and a tonne of media events and launches to attend, which in turn means needing to plan well in advance – not just my writing schedule, but also what I’m wearing to events (accessories included of course) and if I can do this online, I’m all in! As a freelance writer and blogger, majority of my time is spent online so it makes sense that I shop online too, which I guess is what inevitably led me to EverMe.co.nz, it’s just super convenient! They have free shipping and you get $10 off your first purchase when you sign up.
So, on to my handbag – the Melie Bianco – Samy Large Hobo with Tassle (in taupe). I LOVE my bag of choice so much – I couldn’t be happier! I wanted a large boho style bag for spring/summer (I adore large/oversized bags) and this Melie Bianco Samy hobo bag fits the bill perfectly. A testament to the everlasting charm of bohemian style with rose-gold hardware, a detachable tassel, detachable double handles, internal zips and pouches and the most gorgeous polka-dot lining…
You’ll excuse the fact that I’m makeup-free right? Hey it’s all about the handbag!

Last week fashion media were invited to view The Warehouse Spring Collection. Awash with all the colours you’d expect to see in Spring and Summer, we are once again in for a great season of on-trend from Garage, Maya, Active Intent and of course their beautiful accessories and lingerie ranges – H&H and Rose & Thorne.
Keep an eye out for Garage’s two key trends: Varsity Girl and Mod Love which are influenced by American college wear. They feature a range of baseball style jackets, swing dresses and of course the ever popular monochrome trend. My favourite being the ‘kenzo-inspired’ sweatshirt in navy blue. Yesterday afternoon fashion media attended the Number One Shoes Spring Preview event. Not just any preview – we walked straight into a gigantic ‘walk-in shoe wardrobe’ setup (imagine Barbie’s shoe wardrobe in adult size). This is every girls dream right? Especially this girl – I own over 250 pairs of shoes and I tell you what, I could have done with this set-up for my collection!
With a strong monochrome theme and a focus on sports couture, we were greeted by a sea of striking black and white, stripes and zigzags, along with snedges-a-plenty (wedged sneakers definitely need their own name, and that name is snedges). Also featured – Urban Ethnic Fusion (a mash-up of prints), High Contrast (monochrome featuring pops of citrus colour), Road Trip (flat and heeled ankle boots) and Colour Me Crazy (a collection of soft saccharine shades of candy colours).
Once again the fabulous girls of Starseed PR created a ‘Number One Shoes Wonderland’, complete with ‘Magical Faraway Tree’. For those of you too young to know what this is – The Faraway Tree was a series of children’s stories by Enid Blyton. The stories take place in an enchanted forest in which a gigantic magical tree grows – the eponymous “Faraway Tree”. Media were invited to select their favourite pair of shoes from the Spring collection, write the name of the pair of shoes they wished to receive on a tag (I wished for snedges), then tie their tag onto the magical faraway tree! (well it was a magnolia tree situated in the middle of a ‘high tea’ setting, but it looked pretty darn magical). Cool right?

I stumbled (literally – I love ‘Stumbleupon.com’) across this Heart Elbow Patch DIY tutorial by Erica of ‘honestlyWTF’ a couple of years ago and I’m determined to do this with one of my jumpers before winter comes to an end. I mean hey – all it entails is repeatedly stabbing a needle up and down into a piece of fabric, heck yes I can do that. Here’s Erica’s ‘how to’ and exactly; what I plan to do myself this weekend!
Here’s what you’ll need (most of which you can get from Spotlight or The Warehouse)
With the sweater on, place a piece of tape about half an inch below the elbow. Do the same with the opposite elbow. Remove the sweater and insert the foam block into one of the sleeves.
Align and centre the bottom of the cookie cutter along the top of the tape. Pinch off a few tufts of wool roving.
Fill the cutter, spreading out the wool fibres evenly.
At the base of all felting needles are tiny, sharp burrs, which grab and interlock the wool fibres. While holding the needle vertically, repeatedly stab it into the wool roving and through the sweater. I found it easier to work around the outer perimeter of the cutter first and then work my way inwards. Important tip: To prevent breaking the needle, always keep the needle upright and never at an angle. And don’t forget to pay careful attention to your fingers while felting as the needle is extremely sharp!
Continue stabbing away until the surface is flat and even. Fun, right?
Remove the cutter and use the tip of the needle to reign in any stray fibres, if necessary. Don’t worry about the holes as they will be mended later.
Patch up any bare or uneven spots by adding more wool roving where needed.
Carefully peel the sweater away from the foam. Notice that the fibres have transferred through to the backside of the sweater.
To smooth and set the patch, spritz with water and press with an iron on the wool setting.
Repeat the same steps the other sleeve.
Viola! Your heart-shaped elbow patches are finished!

It’s times like these I am just SO proud to be a kiwi… New Zealand designer Annah Stretton has launched a campaign (competition if you will) ‘COME ON OZ, SAY I DO” to find a same-sex female couple to get married on the catwalk at New Zealand Fashion Week.

As you know (unless you’ve been living under a rock) NZ passed a law allowing ‘same-sex’ couples to marry as of August 19 (actually can’t believe I even have to say ‘allow’ – it seems so crazy to me that same-sex couples need to ask for ‘permission’ to marry in the first place). Stretton has opened this competition to Australians – to encourage our sister-country to follow suit. Love it! Even VOGUE UK has picked up on this story, which goes to show – it just takes one big name to get everyone talking.
The “Come on Oz, Say I Do” competition is open for applications until July 30 – and includes return flights to New Zealand for the lucky couple, accommodation, wedding reception (for up to 250 guests) AND bespoke bridal gowns designed by the fabulous lady herself! She doesn’t just stop there – Stretton will dress the bridal party too and they’ll be invited to take part in the show. The lucky couple will say ‘I do’ on the catwalk during New Zealand Fashion Week on September 7, in front of a crowd of 1,000 people.
Excerpt from UK Vogue’s interview with Stretton: “It will not only celebrate the fact that from August 19 same-sex partners will be able to legally marry in New Zealand, but will also encourage our Pacific neighbours to follow our lead and legalise gay marriage,” said Stretton. “This is a cause that I am incredibly passionate about. I have always been proud to call myself a New Zealander and even more so now that we do not discriminate against those who want to be married based on their gender. Because they cannot yet get married in their own country, I’m inviting our Aussie neighbours to jump the ditch and, using the platform I have been given at New Zealand Fashion Week, be married for the world to see, in what is set to be a fashion show extravaganza that will be remembered for years to come.”
ANNAH STRETTON – you make me so proud to be a New Zealander! Ooooh maybe it will even be a friend of mine that wins – I hope so!

Hosted by Fashion PR Anna Jobsz and NZFW’s Dame Pieter Stewart, the Designer Showcase Luncheon took place in Auckland’s Sofitel Hotel yesterday.
Designers – Zambesi, Company of Strangers and Juliette Hogan delighted guests with their collections during an extravagant three-course menu executed by Sofitel’s Executive Chef Scott Brown.
During the entrée, the Zambesi Womanswear Autumn Winter 2013 collection rocked out with a subtle punk theme. Garments featuring domes rather than buttons, soft structured coats, tailored jackets and slim fit trousers, giving a nod to androgynous tailoring. Vintage sensibility was acknowledged in fringed aprons, silk gingham and severe silhouettes. Zambesi Man referenced a transition from boyhood to man, reflected in the use of shorts juxtaposed and tailored coats. Sharp black suits accented with business shirts and skinny ties provide a clean modern aesthetic.
Company of Strangers Spring Summer 2014 ‘Love and Rockets’ showcased a ‘less is more’ approach to fashion. Dresses and skirts loop to form their own layers, pleats and tucks distort hemlines, and a black and white palette is spiked with acidic yellow, blue and pink tones.
Juliette Hogan completed the runway show with her Kaleidoscope City Summer 2013 collection. Embracing simplicity, strength and beauty, Juliette demonstrates the craft of perfect tailoring, proving it’s not about endless options but rather, a succinct compilation of ‘the perfect pieces’. Her Kaleidoscope collection offers refined and relaxed fashion – a perfect balance of haute casual and subtle statements with an underlying edge.
Guests were also treated to some insightful ‘insider facts’ for NZFW. Dame Pieter Stewart announced the launch of a new website ‘Fashion @ First Sight’ of which the public will have access to and will allow everyone to gain a virtual front-row-seat at New Zealand Fashion week with all collections going live on the website, as well as via tv-on-demand.
